The ONLY reson for staying her would be the proximity to Narita station (one stop before airport on the Airport Express JR line from Tokyo and the free shuttle to the airport. The staff were business like but not welcoming. The dollar exchange rate was 6% worse than the rate in the Sunroute or the ANA hotels we stayed in. There was a tiny bathroom with only two towels and poor ventilation. The air con in the body of the hotel was poor and it was hot and humid compared to other hotels we stayed in. Breakfast was adequate but again not up to those in other hotels . Grin and bear it if you have an early flight from Narita.Otherwise avoid

we are glad we arrived to Narita as our first stop in Japan. The hotel staff was very friendly. Small clean rooms but the prize is right

Reviewed by Chris of Chicago on May 15, 2008
I stayed at the Hotel Mercure Narita for one night on a long layover. The hotel was inexpensive, clean enough, offered a very reliable airport shuttle (free) and was convenient. The hotel was comfortable enough and perfect for my short stay. There were a number of local restaurants nearby and an AM/PM convenience store for snacks, etc. However, the best part of my stay was my stroll through the neighborhood to the Narita Shinjo Temple, just a short distance from the hotel. This is the second largest temple in Japan and it is beautiful. It is set within a large, beautifully landscaped park. There are a number of traditional Japanese restaurants, artisan shops and souvenir stands to make the walk to and from even more interesting. I wish I had more time to enjoy this. The people in Narita town were also very polite and helpful. I would recommend this for the hotel but encourage all to take time to enjoy the neighborhood as well.

Hotel is OK, and location is good for train station and does provide free shuttle to the airport. However, expect to check out at 11am and then have no room to change in before you fly if you have a later flight that day!

Reviewed by C of London on Jun 2, 2008
This hotel is a good place to spend your first and last nights in Japan as it's so close to the airport. There's a free bus service from the airport to the hotel door which is very convenient. The hotel is basic and clean. In the centre of Narita so easy walking distance to good local restaurants and the Narita temple which is just down the road. The hotel appears to be used by a lot of flight crews, however this means that English is spoken by hotel staff. The train station to get into the centre of Tokyo is opposite the hotel and again very convenient.
