Domus Sessoriana - Rome

I was very impressed with this hotel, it is in a very beautiful building. Location is OK, quite area and a few good resturants. Rooms are typical Europeon room. Staff was very pleasant and helpful with directions. The only negative comment would be improvment with breakfast food. Yes, I would recommend this hotel!

You definitely want to go see it even if you don't stay there. It is not quite as close to the metro as what we expected but not bad, about 400~500 meters to San Giovanni. Bus and trolley service to the Coloseum area are right outside the front door.

This Hotel is extremely cool because it is 2000 years old. The room is standard, but really clean. It's in a great location and only a 10min walk from the subway. I was very happy with my stay at the Doma Sessoriana Hotel. Not a fancy property but perfect for adventurous and laid back people. The staff is very friendly. Alex at the front desk speaks 7 languages, I was very happy to be welcome in portuguese. beware! this place is NOT as advertised! they have SELECTIVE english speaking abilities and an obvious disdain for americans. The rooms are extremely stark and the shower drains do not work so only one person a day can efffectively shower. the airconditioning is poor and the beds are like sleeping on the sidewalk. on the third day I lost my psassport. […] Not only were they indifferent to my situation but the man at the desk was actually scoffing at us and informed us that we should be more concerned than we were. they also refused to call their cab service to see if it had been turned in . we were greeted most mornings at the "complimentory breakfast" with glares of contempt. PLEASE RUN SCREAMING INTO THE NIGHT BEFORE YOU STAY IN THIS HORRIBLE PLACE!!!! we stayed in 4 other places during our tour of Italy that were positively charming! It is regrettable that our first impression of Italy was here. This hotel is obviously not affiliated with the church wich is beautiful to visit. unfortunately when we were checking in there was a triple funeral service taking place... a very sad way to start our trip, the hotel " parking lot was full of weeping people." we had to walk through them to get to the street . this place was the worst experience!!!! Domus Sessoriana looked good on paper but our experience there over two weeks was disappointing. The rooms are small and a bit old and dirty. One of the biggest problems are the beds - they are very hard and the pillow they give you is lityerally about 1 inch thick. It's like sleeping on the carpet floor here at home. Housekeeping likes to take your […] soap and not give you new soap. The shower pressure and volume is disappointing. The TV was about 8 inches and got 6 channels. The breakfast was actually decent, which is a plus. The front desk takes interest in helping you, but the actual advice and directions they give you are hit and miss. They are always sure of what they say but sometimes do not follow through or are totally wrong. Don't be tempted by thinking it will be better cause it's in a church - you'll go in the church one time to visit and never see anything about it again - the hotel halls and rooms are different from the church. A little out of the way, but the staff was incredibly helpful and nice. Good, hearty breakfast. Decent sized bathroom also. Beautiful inside and out. Very quiet (it is a working monastery afterall). Very safe and secure. Overall great experience and would definitely stay there again!

Really wanted to love this hotel because of the originality of the place. Beautiful and historic. Service staff was very kind as well......but the beds were like rocks. They were so uncomfortable, taking the monastic life a bit too far. Our room was located at the front of the building ( Room 2) on the lower level. The street noise kept me up all night […] so make sure you get a room in the back where my friend was sleeping. Her beds were also really uncomfortable but her room was quiet. We had a very nice experience in Domus Sessoriana. Hotel is set in an amazing facility. The rooms are not too big and a bit spartan, but since we only slept there it was fine. Breakfast was pretty staisfactory as well. Give heating and hot water some time and it will work well.

The hotel was pretty nice, especially considering the reasonable price. It consists of 2 buildings adjacent to a cathedral. You need to request to be in the main hotel building, not the other one. We were in the one on the opposite side of the cathedral, and it was absolutely freezing! This was a great hotel for 3 days; I do think for anything longer I would want a different location. The rooms are small but we had enough room for all our stuff and the bathroom had a roomy shower with lots of water (always a plus for a European budget hotel). Good shopping nearby along Via Appia. There is an outdoor market for the bargain hunter, COIN "shopping mall", and several shops along Via Appia worth visiting. A nice little gold shop too for those who appreciate Italian gold. Also nearby is Piazza and Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, and the Scale Santa (Holy Steps, said to be that which Jesus climbed when persecuted by Pontius Pilot). It is "walking distance" to the Colosseum, and can still be considered walking distance to most of the sights in Rome (for those who don't mind a little extra walking to start their sight seeing day). A little pricy in comparison to other hotels closer to "the action" for what it was used for (sleeping and storing our stuff while out and about). Read more

We have mixed feelings about this hotel. The few bad things is that it's very difficult to find, the beds are rock hard, and you have to get the porter to bring you ice if you want any. Also, one of the staff (not all of them) was not very friendly. We absolutely loved the hotel. I'm not sure that it would be for everyone, as the 4* rating is kind of misleading (the service by staff was excellent, but the facilities were pretty reduced), but it really was a unique and great hotel. Breakfast: plenty of tasty food and drink, but repetative, and no hot options. Other dining options: a cheap drinks […] vending machine, or go out, not even a minibar in the room. Room (208): clean, but our double bed was 2 singles pushed together. Small TV that only had 4 Italian chanels (I did miss putting the news on in the mornings). Fridge that we could stock, but not a minibar. No drinks facilities within the room, althought the vending machines downstairs were adequate. Mattresses were very firm, but it is a monestary, so did expect that, and we don't like soft beds anyway. Bathroom: clean, but no bath, just a decent shower. Pleanty of soap, shampoo and towels, shame there wasn't anything a bit more luxuriant - not even hair conditioner! Overall hotel: Can't praise the staff enough. Clean and kept clean every day. Rooftop terrace has great views. General atmosphere was a very relaxing and welcoming one. We found it an easy 30 min walk to the city centre (Colluseum), although if you're heading for the Vatican, take the Metro. If we return to Rome, we will seriously think about staying here again - and we never use hotels more than once, as we like to have a different experience each time! Read more

On previous visits to Rome, I stayed in some less than perfect accomodation, so this time (May 2012) I forked out some more and hoped for the best. Fortunately, we weren't disappointed. This converted seminary, with a working church next door, is a good location (5-10 minutes walk from the Manzano metro station and 20 minutes walk from the Colloseum). […] Our triple room was spacious with a decent sized en-suite bathroom and breakfast was varied and generous. The desk was manned 24/7 (important when you arrive late in the evening) and the staff were friendly and helpful. We realy enjoyed our stay here and would recommend the hotel to anyone looking to stay in a historical building rather than a normal hotel.It's situation means a 20 minute walk into the city centre or a short bus ride.We certainly didn't find this a problem as the historic surroundings and roof top terrace more than made up for the slighly 'out of the […] way ' location. Echoes badly when guests are talking outside their rooms; we had 2 badly disturbed nights and early mornings when young guests were quite noisy when returning to their rooms. I've never stayed anywhere else that's had relics of a saint in the basement and such stunning artwork and a sense of history as part of the offer! We loved the location within easy walking distance of the Colloseum and a nice restaurant or two and the building itslef was really special to history enthusiasts which I suppose my partner and I are. Looks fantastic but fails to match the pictures. It is very tired and shabby; the en suite is 40 years out of date and badly maintained. A basic but good hotel. No problems and served as an excellent base from which to explore Rome. Convenient buses right out side to the Colosseum & Vatican. Breakfast run until 10:30 (which is nice if need it!). Evening meals were a slight problem as Domus Sessoriana don't do them and locally there wasn't much we fancied.

The hotel itself is special, because of it's history. Location is excellent, near metrostation and in walking distance from good restaurants. Very helpfull staff. Breakfast buffet was better than usually in Italy. Great view over Roma from the roof terasse. The 4-person room was very large.

Top hotel in 1 van de grootste kerken van Rome, prachtig uitzicht over Rome vanaf het dakterras. Met Termini op een kwartiertje lopen, en metro's nog geen 5 minuten lopen ligt het mooi centraal en is alles makkelijk en snel te bereiken.
