My boyfriend and I rode our bikes from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara and we stayed overnight at the Avania Inn. All hotel rooms are expensive in Santa Barbara...there is no getting around it. And the Avania is no exception. However, if we take the high price of staying in Santa Barbara on a weekend out of the picture, this was a great choice for us! […] Mainly because it is walking distance from the pier and State Street. You can tell this place has had a cosmetic face lift. It has a new paint job and color scheme throughout the Inn, and more modern decor and furniture has been added but there are still signs of the old hotel. The continental breakfast in the morning was included with the room, but it was not very good. Our room and bed was very clean and comfortable! Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. The location was pretty good and close to the highway (I was getting around by car). Pool was SUPER small and not very warm: a disappointment. The free breakfast was good but I had to wait for plates, coffee, silverware. Maybe I just hit it at a bad time.

This is my first review as I was disappointed at the way I was treated by staff. I checked in with my brother along with two friends who live in Santa Barbara and we're not going to be staying in the room. As soon as the staff saw the 4 of us go in the room she calls the room to rudely question me on the amount of people in my. When I pick up the phone […] she says "you have four people in your room" and I say no, "how many people in your room?" I tell her 2 the amount that I said on my reservation. If not for this treatment I would've had a great stay. The heater in the room was great, the remote control for tv was moody, shower water came out slowly, walls thin could hear everything from front desk and at 2am couple fighting. The Inn is in a good location opposite a park, a few minutes walk to the beach and the main street. We walked home at night after having a meal in the main street and felt safe. It appears the owners of the hotel were scrimping a little to much to make a buck. Waffels at breakfast were ok but scrambled eggs must have come out of a box and the preparer had no clue.

The location was pretty good, near a store, near the beach and walking distance to downtown. The trolley is more convenient than walking all the way though. The room was clean and nice, the pool was warm but small. The breakfast was fine though my kids refused to eat the wafftles after one bit.
