"James Bay Inn, Victoria, BC, Canada"
James Bay Inn is a very nice hotel, right on the main street, 5-10 minutes walking from the parliament. The room was eally clean, the bathroom very nice and there is a computer in the lobby in case u didn't took yours.
"Quaint, simple, effective"
My girlfriend and I were looking for a simple, clean base of operations to head out and visit Victoria from, and this was it. I will say it's not a real looker, and it's so crookedly built you'll be walking around like Spade and Farley in Black Sheep... BUT: it's problems are only skin deep. The restaurant and bar downstairs both provided good service […] and food, the room was sizable and included all the basics, and the location was perfect for us, being easily in walking distance to anything downtown. So long story short as long as you're not hung up on cosmetics this is a great place to stay: the staff was friendly, the price was great, and the comfort wasn't bad either. One caveat: they don't have an elevator that I saw, so heavy luggage would be a pain, and I'm not sure if their rooms would be wheelchair accessible... Read more
"Wonderful accommodation close to must-see sights"
The James Bay Inn is conveniently located near the Parliament Buildings, the Empress Hotel, the Inner Harbor, Beacon Hill Park and all the other exceptional sights that Victoria offers. The rooms are spotless and comfortable as are all the common areas of the hotel. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. The J.B. Restaurant, located […] on the premises, offers excellent food and service at a great price The staff is very courteous, and the decor is great! The James Bay Inn is located in a very pleasant neighborhood and, thus, offers a gentle and quiet pace after the hustle and bustle of the downtown. We truly recommend the James Bay Inn as the place to stay when visiting Victoria. We have stayed there numerous times and we'll definitely stay there next time we'll visit Beautiful Victoria. "james bay inn in victoria BC"
Very clean and good location about 4 blocks to down town. Very good restaurant and great service.
"James Bay Inn Hotel & Suites"
Decent accommodation for the price. Hotel does have an excellent location. Easy walking distance to inner harbour, legislature building, Beacon Hill Park, ocean. Building itself is old, rooms are basic but clean & upgraded. The floor in my room was slightly "slanted" & creaky. Americans would be advised to stay at the Marriott. Europeans will love the […] quaintness and old world charm. Nice pub & restaurant on the main floor. No air conditioning or elevator. Read more
"decent value"
For the price I paid, a decent deal. Basics and nothing fancy. Pub/restaurant downstairs is great. A bit of a walk from ferry terminal, so not fun if it is raining :).
"James Bay Inn - very conveniently located."
The James Bay Inn is a 100 year old establishment that has been nicely maintained. The rooms were not large but of a comfortable size. The room and bathroom were basic and very clean. There is no air conditioning but Victoria's weather is so moderate that it is not required most of the time. For those with mobility issues, be advised there is no lift […] (elevator) - the lobby is one flight of stairs up from the street level and there 3 floors. The front desk clerk was exceptionally helpful and friendly as was each of the staff I met. There is also a restaurant in the building, on the street level who serve a fantastic breakfast. Their pancakes are the best I've ever tasted. There too the waitstaff was courteous and helpful. The location is just over two blocks south of the Parliament building and Victoria's inner harbour - a very convenient location. Overall we had a very pleasant time at the James Bay Inn and would return there for future stays. Read more
"James Bay Inn Hotel and Suites"
Although this historical building is quaint and in a lovely neighborhood, it doesn't have the amenities of the larger hotel chains. One annoyance for us was the lack of a constant/consistent water temperature in the shower. The temp is constantly changing, and it is hard to find a temperature setting that won't burn you on the high side, or feel like […] freezing water on the low side. Another annoyance was the cigarette smoke and noise which wafted up to our room on the second floor (our room was over the parking lot.) It was necessary to leave the windows open for air flow, as there are not individual thermostats in the rooms...nor is their air-conditioning. The room was clean and the staff was very nice. They allowed us to leave our car in their lot til the afternoon (after we had checked out) until it was time for us to leave the island. Parking is free, by the way. The bed was comfortable. This was probably our 4th or 5th stay at this property. Although we are never 100% happy, we keep going back because of the price and reasonable location to the inner harbour. Read more
"Possessed of charm"
The building is lovely and endearingly crooked, the location is fabulous, the staff were very helpful. Rooms tiny but comfortable (although they didn't provide coffee, which was a disappointment.) We do suspect this place may be haunted, though--all four people in my party independently reported having peculiar dreams, and we later discovered that […] Emily Carr died in this hotel. Rather a privilege to be haunted by such a prominent local personage. Read more
"Jame Bay Inn - Victoria Great for the $$"
We were greeted by very friendly staff and were early for check-in. They gladly stored our luggage until check in time, allowing us to get a head start on our vacation. The rooms are quite small, however very clean. The bed was very firm, a little too much so for my husband and I. The restaurant was reasonable and food good. Service again very good. […] Overall for the price it was a good! Read more

"James bay Inn"
The hotel was possessed European charm. Was handily located two blocks from the house of Parliament and the bay. Staff was VERY friendly. A 15% was included for a discount in their ground level pub or restaurant.
"It was like staying in a Dorm Room"
Remember the dorm rooms from University? The rooms at James BayJames Bay Inn were not furnished that well. The room we had was small, very bland with inexpensive furnishings that showed much wear and tear. Do not believe the photos of the rooms shown in the description of this place. The location was very good, but the hotel was pretty miserabl […] e. Read more
"Comfort and Space with a Great Location!"
My mother and I absolutely loved our short stay at the James Bay Inn. Our room with two queen beds was much larger than expected and the staff were excellent! The hotel is an older property but very well-maintained with all the expected amenities. The hotel is in a great, mostly residential neighborhood about 2-3 blocks from the main attractions in […] Victoria - very convenient! Even though we had a car on our trip, we only used it to drive from the airport and to Sooke for dinner. Everything else was within walking distance to the James Bay Inn! Read more
Excellent resturant at the inn, and very close to all sights within walking distance in Victoria. Very nice staff. Comfortable bed, nice crisp sheets.

"James Bay Inn Victoria close to everything"
Great place. Reasonable price. Recommended!
Quiet and peaceful and walking distance to town. The staff is very friendly. No air conditioning, but if you leave open the window it was fine.
"a real olde tyme hotel"
hotel was fine for us (were in our 50s) but my mother-in-law (74) had a real hard time with it! the slanting floors made her feel quite ill. no elevators made it hard for her to get up to her room, and the stairs to even get into the hotel. she had a problem with the room being so small, and it was so hot, and the window was too hard for her to open...so […] probably not the best place to stay with old folks, but for us we thought it was good value, quant, ok couldve done with a bit more room in our tiny room and it was very hot even with the window open, bed was a bit hard. but like i said, value wise very good,if its only for a few nights. "Perfect location - James Bay Inn"
Great value in a perfect location. Quiet streets but walking distance to Royal BC Museum and the Inner Harbor. Basic, clean, room at a good price.
"St James Inn @ Victoria"
The Inn is beautiful and charming. It is a nice walking distance to all the sights but far enough away to be quiet. We could sleep with windows open to enjoy the breeze without any traffic noise. It is immaculately clean. It reminded me of an old European hotel - no elevator but it was nice to go up the creaky huge old stairway thinking about the history […] of the place. Wonderful old wood fixtures in the main rooms. Very quaint. Not modern in the bathroom but absolutely clean and functioning. We ordered a single queen but were upgraded to a king which was very nice. Two wing chairs in the room settled into the window area made for a nice relaxing little area. This place is for those who like old, historic, quaint, instead of cold, modern or shiny. Read more
"a Great find"
I recommend this for everyone. We stayed in the place next to the main hotel. A perfect suite. Great service and an overall fantastic time.

"The James Bay Inn in Victoria BC, Canada"
We were very impressed with this hotel. The staff was outstanding: professional, courteous, accommodating and they truly demonstrated outstanding customer service skills. The room was small but spotless. The bed was extremely comfortable and the linen was also extremely clean. The room rate was perfect for us. The restaurant downstairs was an excellent […] experience: the food was delicious, the service was perfect, the staff was very professional, courteous, and at the same time gentle. For breakfast, I had a French toast ... the best French toast I've ever had! It wasn't greasy but cooked to perfection with the bread encased in custard rather than in a dry omelette type stuff and it wasn't coated with powder sugar but finely dusted with it ... just perfect!!! The James Bay Inn is about six blocks from the Parliament Building in a residential area. It was very quiet and we felt safe walking back to the hotel after the Canada Day celebrations and fireworks were over (about 10:30-10:45 pm). We plan on visiting Victoria again to discover more of the city and we'll definitely stay at the James Bay Inn. Read more
"quiet neighborhood"
This is a charming old building--the floor even leans a little. But it is very comfortable and in a nice, quiet neighborhood a few blocks from the Government building. I appreciated that we could leave the windows open and not have to hear traffic or air conditioning all night. Our room was large and the bed comfortable. The restaurant downstairs was […] a disappointment--uninviting decor and food. Better to try the ethnic and inexpensive cafes in town. Read more
"James Bay Inn & Suites in Victoria, BC"
An older hotel situated in a very nice neighborhood of Victoria. Many houses date back to the late 19th & early 20th centuries, with well-maintained yards & gardens. Close to Parliament, inner harbor, parks and Museum. One of the most comfortable hotel beds I've used. Restaurant & lounge also quite good. Not convenient for those with decreased mobility: […] no elevator, and didn't see any ramps. Also no A/C, but it's seldom super hot in Victoria; with the hotel about halfway between the inner harbor and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, sea breezes are very common. Read more
"Adequate for the price"
This hotel is in a beautiful neighborhood, a lovely old building and a short walking distance to town. Coupled with free parking it is a good choice for the price. However, there are no special amenities such an an elevator, air conditioner or the like. The staff was not terribly friendly and the breakfast was pricey.
"Good location"
Simple hotel but good value for the money.
"James Bay Inn, Victoria, Canada/location/rates!!"
This Inn was beautifully designed, histtorical, with delightful employees, great restaurant, and the location was near al the sites of Victoria's harbor, Parliament and Chinatown. i will recommend it to all visitors and would enjoy a future stay there as well.

"Quaint and Quirky"
The floors are a little slanted here and there, but this small hotel has the charm that the chain hotels will never have. This is my second time staying at this hotel. I found it to be clean and tidy. It also has the advantage of being in a neighborhood setting which helps the noise factor. It has a great little pub that the locals also frequent, giving […] one an opportunity to mix with the natives. The restaurant that is attached serves good basic meals. I will look forward to my next stay! Read more

"James Bay Inn Hotel & Suites - Victoria, B.C."
The hotel was quaint, small, quiet, clean, friendly, with a supurb location, close to downtown Victoria within walking distance to some tourist locations, had available parking & was definitely the best deal in the city for the price. The bar was recommended by others and we were not dissappointed although it did close at 11:00 p.m. on the night we were […] there. The neighbourhood homes are well kept vintage properties in keeping with the theme of the 100 year old hotel. I would stay there again and would definitely tell others about it. Read more
"Solid comfort in a great location"
This is a wonderful old hotel in easy walking distance from downtown Victoria, including the parliament building, the BC museum, the inner harbor, and shopping for every taste and pocketbook. Staff were friendly and very helpful. There's a decent restaurant and bar downstairs and internet access in the lobby. The hotel is clean and well maintained. "James Bay Inn - Victoria, Vancouver"
This hotel is in a great location, near the harbor and accessible to most popular sites in the area. It is definitely old, but clean. Do not expect four star decor, but the rooms and lobby, while a bit old and shabby looking, were clean and well maintained. All the necessities were there, and staff was very friendly and helpful. This is definitely a […] good place to stay if you are not overly interested in spending lots of time in your room, but want to be in the harbor area and get out and about. Also, the hotel had a pub and a decent restaurant; when we checked in, they offered a discount coupon to the restaurant. We had one drink in the pub - which we heard from friends in the area - is popular with locals. We also had breakfast in the restaurant, which seemed to have both travelers and locals. The menu for breakfast was extensive with some unique offerings, and the food was plentiful and very good. Read more
"Adorable experience.....small rooms"
This hotel is SO cute! The ambiance is fun and almost like staying at the bed and breakfast - minus the breakfast. The rooms are pretty small - barely enough room for the bed, but the bathroom is HUGE. The building leans just a little, but it kind of adds to the experience. The owners are sweet and helpful - and the hotel is just a couple minutes walk […] to downtown Victoria. Read more
The hotel was in walking distance to all the features of downtown Victoria, and even closer to the Parliament building and the museum. Overall, the hotel was good -- rating of 3.5 out of 5. The outside is much nicer than the inside in that the rooms are a bit out dated but our rate was in the lower end for Victoria so you get what you pay for. The staff […] was friendly and helpful, they stored our bags since we arrived earlier and left later than check in/out. FYI, there's no elevator (which didn't matter to us but for others) and no hair dryers in the rooms (thankfully the front desk had an extra one to borrow!). Read more
"James Bay Inn in Victoria, BC"
Very old hotel with uneven floors and no elevator. Old sticky dirty windows that were hard to open and close. Small shower stall and no air conditioning which was an issue especially on the first night. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

"Simple Accommodations, Good Location"
Hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to downtown attractions. Room was small, simple, and a little worn. I didn’t sleep well on the firm mattress. It’s a good value for someone who’s just looking for a place to crash for the night.
"Good location and hotel for the money"
I booked the hotel due to the historic review and the price. The staff was great and very respectful and helpful. We had a great stay!
"Excellent location to tour Victoria"
The period style furniture in the lobby, the proximity to the legislative buildings, Emily Carr House, provincial museum, Empress Hotel, marina, etc. made this an incredibly enjoyable stay. Everything was within walking distance. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
"Suitable overnighter"
Hotel location and prices are very good. Room tolerable for an overnight stay but very basic for a longer stay. Pleasant pub in the basement
