"Great location, good leg work out"
The apartment was very nice and even bigger than we expected. They even had a small 2nd bathroom which really came in handy. The room overlooked the Piazza San Lorenzo, so we had a beautiful view, but it's also a hangout for loud locals who obviously don't have to get up early for work in the morning. The hotel does have an elevator, but NOT for the […] section we were in up 3 flights! The staff was GREAT; they were very friendly, and the young man who checked us in even brought up our bags and showed us around the room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not what I was expecting."
Was hard to locate. Was expecting a fancy hotel but it was a family run type hotel. The rooms are very spacious and it is a very quaint business, but I was not in the mood for quaint and wanted more luxurious. Most upsetting part was the hotel is a part of a residential building so you had to be buzzed in...me and my girlfriend stood outside in the […] rain for half an hour constantly buzzing hotel to let us in at 1800. "Ok, but would probably not return"
Not convenient if you have a car, car had to be left 10 mins away in public car park, quite expensive. Room we had was actually an apartment separate from the hotel. Was good size but with the inconvenience of being 3-4 mins away. Well located. Would likely look for an alternative place to stay if I went back to Genoa.Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel is old, tired and IMHO manages by very covetous and mingy troll. Rooms are very beautiful, and decorated in what I think of as typical Italian style, rooms are large and very comfortable. The room had a computer and had free internet. Palazzo Cicala is a beautiful of palazzo with a lot of charm and character. The staff is very approachable & multilingual. They were willing to make several calls on my behalf when the train service, and therefore my travel plan, was interuppted due to heavy rains. Enjoyed having breakfast while looking out onto Piazza San Lorenzo. One drawback was […] that my room's wifi connection did not work due to the very thick walls blocking the signal. However, there was a strong wifi connection in the lobby. Another drawback is that with the old windows - you can hear some street noise in the rooms at night time. We were disappointed with the hotel all round. Our room was sparsely furnished, small and austere. The en suite bathroom was tiny and the basic shower was absurdly small. "Nice hotel´s apartment for parents with teenagers"
For our first one night`s stay we got a very clean and modern apartment close to the hotel and enjoyed our stay in the historic center of Genoa very much. So we decided to come back again and got another very nice apartment in the same building. The second time, though, the housekeeper had probably been busier, and the floors had been wiped hastily, […] but again everything else was neat and clean. The breakfast had more variety and was better (good cappucinos!), when enjoyed at the hotel in comparison to the simpler breakfast they offered to bring in the room incl. the same room price. The hotel doesn`t have a parking lot and has to be reached by foot (ca. 400m - we recommend trolleybags), but our empty rentcar stayed safely on a nearby common and camera guarded parking lot during both stays. We will surely stay in this hotel´s apartments again, if we travel to Genoa! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"An amazing week-end!!"
02/26/14 Julie M Oxford, United Kingdom
This was our first time in Genoa and we enjoyed the city, the museums, the cuisine and above all the accommodation in beautiful Palazzo Lomellino (located in Via Garibaldi) sooooo much! Locanda di Palazzo Cicala is located in this historical building just opposite the Cathedral but they have de charme apartments throughout the city centre and, since this was our wedding anniversary, we were offered the up-grade in their apartment in Palazzo Lomellino. It feels like living a bit of history of Genoa - the apartment is peaceful and quiet and has 2 frescoed bedrooms and is the perfect starting point to visit the city. We'll go back for sure and we high reccommed Locanda di Palazzo Cicala!
"Not your run of the mill stay but a lot going for it"
01/28/14 jean-s North Yorkshire, England
I would imagine all the apartments are all unique in their own ways and being part of a very old residence it will not be like staying in a 4 star hotel. Based on our experience - we ended up with a huge apartment overlooking the beautiful duomo for only £66 a night. Yes a lift up those 4 flights of stairs would have been nice but we are not going to die from the lack of a lift. Someone who could speak English on reception at all times would have been nice and infact would have resulted in us staying an extra night but it was not to be. When we arrived early on a Sunday morning they let us into our apartment early (and changed it from one I had booked much further away in the old town. Beware if using booking.com or something similar - it may say your apartment is in another building but it doesn't say another building about 20 mins walk away) and we indulged in the very nice buffet breakfast for 10 euros a person. I would go back - we loved Genoa and we loved having an apartment that was wound into the very fabric of old town Genoa.
"The Palazzo Lomellino apartment is totally unacceptable – BE WARNED!"
10/09/13 SydneyTeviot Sydney
So many things were wrong with this experience. Despite having asked in an email for some feedback after our experience we have received none. We had researched accommodation in Genoa very carefully months before our arrival, and secured a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment with a lounge/dining area, roof terrace, kitchen and elevator through Palazzo Cicala. About three weeks before our arrival we received an email telling us it was no longer available as the “owner” had taken it back!! At no time did we have contact with a senior manager despite the total inconvenience not to mention breaking the contract. To her credit Nadia, the young receptionist, tried her best to help us. Because of the Boat Show Genoa was booked out. Therefore, somewhat reluctantly we accepted the apartment in Palazzo Lomellino even though it didn’t really meet our needs as a couple and two singles. Here is where the problems really begin! The elevator didn’t work so after hauling our luggage around the Old Town we had to haul it up two and a half flights of stairs. There are two bedrooms, one living area, and a totally inadequate bathroom! The layout of the apartment is a farce with three large rooms in a line therefore if you’re in the far away bedroom you can’t use the bathroom at night without waking others. The bathroom is down 17 very steep twisty stairs without a handrail. The bathroom is basic in the extreme. The shower curtain is filthy, there’s nowhere for 4 people to hang towels, there’s no vanity cupboard and very little shelf space, the toiletries are of very poor quality as are the towels, the windows were stuck and the fan didn’t work, the walls are grubby, and there is cleaning material stuffed in the corner on the floor behind the basin. Lighting is totally inadequate. There’s no air-conditioning and no mosquito screening on any windows. Shutters on the windows need adjustment. There are no suitcase racks, only one ancient wardrobe in the living area, and no chest of drawers or even shelf space for clothing in any room. The living room also contains one tiny bar fridge, a kettle that doesn’t work properly, cutlery stored in the fridge and crockery in the wardrobe! This is for use when they deliver the very basic breakfast basket each morning – be warned delivery is erratic and the last day we got none at all. The only water is down in the dungeon bathroom so up and down the stairs you have to go to fill the useless kettle! No tea bags are provided, and only instant coffee (in Italy!?)There is nowhere to sit to eat breakfast (or to work on the computer) but there is a huge and useless dining table in the first bedroom (no chairs though). The TV is in the first bedroom – interesting if all four of you want to huddle on the bed to watch BBC World News! I have to say that internet connection was good, reliable and free. In the “dormitory” bedroom there are no bedside tables/lamps for reading. There are some narrow shelves and a tiny cupboard, which on investigation contains cleaning stuff, including a sopping wet mop head – nice! The beds are clean and comfortable. However, only one very skinny foam rubber pillow is provided per person. If we had been able to find a hotel to accommodate us, we would have been gone the first night! Avoid at all costs!
"This place is terribad for 2 reasons"
09/28/13 DenverBrian77 Denver, Colorado
1) Even though we had a confirmation, with their own confirmation number even, they gave our room away and when we got there it we were seriously f'ed. It was a busy weekend and getting a hotel was next to impossible. 2) Even if we could have gotten our room. You can't drive up to the place, as the streets are all pedestrian only, there is zero parking anywhere around. There is no visible signage from the outside and finding is almost impossible, even with google maps. When we were buzzed in, we were greated with a lobby that looked abandonned, with literally a shopping cart thrown in the corner, we figured out we had to go upstairs to a little desk with someone who obviously didn't know what to do, we had to wait 20 minutes while our car was double parked. She got her manager who seems like they never actually been in the hospitality business before. This whole operation seems to be run by people who know nothing about the hospitality business. The upstairs 'lobby' was cheaply decorated with Ikea furniture and carpet that was in terrible condition. It sounds like our experience actually happens a lot with them, lost reservations, and that can ruin a vacation. 3) Just don't go. Even if the rooms are nice, there are a ton of better options, with FAR less risk. Also, don't even think of bringing a car to this hotel. They have zero knowledge of where to park or how to handle it. This was truly the worst hotel experience in my life.
"Would definitely stay again."

The location of the hotel is great. The reception staff were very friendly on arrival and departure. One negative is that I didn't realise while booking that I wouldn't be staying in the main building but in an apartment a few streets away - HOWEVER - the apartment was lovely and very spacious and I think I actually enjoyed my stay more as a result as it was a nice space to return to at the end of the day.
"I have not opinion yet"

This is the story of a hotel special. When we arrived there we were coming from Monte Carlo by car. The center of Genova is closed to the trafic but you could arrive to your hotel as special service. You have to resolve the laberynth to get there and find the corner of the square where is located, totally hidden without any name, display or sign that could do it easy. When you arrive, from the first floor window,an old man not italian and not english spoken, advice you to wait there, in the street. After that he appears on the main door and request you the ID card and disappear again. Later reappear and say you follow me please. The secret is that the elevator needs a key that you don get until check in, for this reason you did the check in the street, with you lugage. When you get to the first floor, you doenst see a lobby or reception as usual, there are a small hidden recepcion desk at the end of the corridor in the left side. There they explain where is your room. The room is like a palace room. More than 35 sqm, ceilling more than 5 meters over the floor. Beautiful cornises on the ceiling, and a new and moderm bathroom into the room. " very big windows and a portable A/C machine, not enough for this room. The furniture is not matcing with the room, it is moderm part of them from IKEA. The breakfst service is just on the hall. Not variated, some good cheese, grapes, croassants and some cold meat. The location is just in fron of the San Lorenzo Cathedral and close to the Ferrari Square and Palazzo Ducale. Once that you are oriented is good location.
"Hard to find but worth the search"
08/04/13 Anne G London, England, United Kingdom
No doubt that this hotel is hard to find - do not even consider trying to find it without detailed directions - but we found a hidden surprise when we finally did arrive. We had booked an apartment to have a bit more room with kids and got a huge property with a private roof terrace and good views - very unexpected. We would typically get 2 hotel rooms for the family and this proved to be less expensive anf 5 times the space, with a kitchen which would be useful for a longer stay. The modern apartment was well located in the old town so near many restaurants, the pier and attractions. As noted, there is no parking in the old town so we parked in the City Park at Piazza Dante, approximately a 5 minute walk. Don't be scared off by some of the other reviews if you are open to something out of the ordinary.
"A big mistake"
05/08/13 Kolkkz Brisbane, Australia
I agree with the review above. I booked a room in Piazza San Lorenzo. We had great difficulty finding the front door. The pleasant receptionist gayly told us we had received an upgrade and then led us off down the street to another building where we were taken to a modern and characterless apartment. If I had wanted this I would have booked it. I don't like being lied to. We questioned why we were not in Piazza San Lorenzo only to be told we were very near. I said I didn't like the apartment and the woman just asked if the lights and water were working. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
"There's a problem here"
04/28/13 butzy philadelphia
This is one of the weirdest hotel experiences ever. You can't find it, even if you are outside the door, and once buzzed in you still can't find it (unless you have been here before). Then there was no staff outside of a lone receptionish. I had to lug the luggage around....then they gave me a place in another building 200 yards away. The room was ok, but that's all. Maybe a two star hotel, maybe.
"Great apartment in the heart of Genoa"
11/12/12 SundayNOLA Sophia Antipolis, France
We spent a 2-day weekend in this hotel. Well, it may not exactly qualify as a four-star hotel with all of you (it has limited service), but if you are looking for comfortable and recently refurbished rooms / bathrooms in the old city, then this may be a perfect place to start your visit of Genoa. We stayed in an apartment located 5 minutes walk away from the main building, at the 5th floor of a historic building and with a view of the harbor. The aparttment was brand new and spotless.Kitchenette, living room with sofa for extra guests, separate bedroom, lots of storage room, convenient bathroom, and free Internet. We did not do the hotel breakfast but went for capuccino and dulce in one of the many coffee shops in the neighborhood. After checking out, we asked for a capuccino as we waited for friends; it was complimentary. A nice touch indeed.
