Bayside Hotel - Santa Monica

I paid $300 for an ocean view room. Upon arrival at 3pm the room was not ready. 45 minutes later I went to my room on the 2nd floor. Only to discover the view was actually of a huge thick tree. I was very upset. I paid a lot of money for an ocean view. It was a splurge for my birthday on my vacation. I went to the office and asked for another room. […] So we got moved to the room next door that was not ready for occupancy. And it was not a kitchenette which is what I paid for. Don't stay here! Again we had to wait for the room to be cleaned. Finally we were able to settle into our room. The room was clean but old. And to top it off the iPhone clock radio was broken. It had missing buttons. So again I had to go to the office to have them bring me a working clock radio. The experience was awful and because I paid so much money I feel duped. Read more

Nice place, it's old but everything worked, we were 10 min from Santa Monica peir. It's been redone and looks pretty nice, bed was great and no complaints with room. HOWEVER $20 to park in a hotel owned lot is rediculous!! I mean to add that on to a maxed out room rate is tasteless. Two friends and I stayed there for a visit to Santa Monica and found the hotel to be great for its value - it was significantly cheaper than other oceanfront hotels but just as close to the beach. It's an older building and thereby in need of some updating, but the rooms were perfectly clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. A couple of things […] to be aware of are 1) it's more of a motel than a hotel and 2) almost all of the rooms do not have an ocean view. However, there is a really nice well-kept garden in the courtyard, and whether or not you can see the ocean, the fact is that it's across the street so you can't really whine about it. This hotel is only in business because of its amazing location. Customer service is lacking. The hotel is older and understandably requires more maintenance. The issues lie in the customer service to compensate. Customer service was very nonchelant.

Great find! My son was playing a late concert at the Hard Rock Cafe and we had family in town from out of state...we just needed BEDS instead of driving back from LA , not lots of amenities, as we would be getting to our rooms very late. Clean, world class location, Costa at the front desk friendly and helpful. We had a great little kitchen we didn't […] expect in one of the rooms, complete with a frozen pizza we could have purchased in the freezer...a good idea! Older plumbing, dripping faucet in the tub, but totally a great value, especially when I did a comparison of other room prices for the higher end places along the way. This hotel is a rip off! It is dirty and in need of total renovation. The heat was sporadic, the bath fan not working, the toilet runs and the overall sanitation is questionable. The carpeting was filthy and discusting. If you don't plan on staying in your room very much, this is a great place! Don't get me wrong, the rooms are fine, but with all the surroundings, you won't stay long. It's next to the beach, and some great restaurants! Great little place!

To call this a hotel would be a big stretch. The room doors open directly into an outdoor courtyard. The bathroom appears not to have been remodeled since the 1960's (shower only and one sink). The parking situation is terrible...there are not enough spaces to provide parking for one car per room. Location was great, but that's what you're paying for. Front desk service was mediocre at best; had a lot of confusion about whether room was ready or not. My room didn't have a do not disturb sign in in. When I asked, I was told that there wasn't an extra available. Fortunately didn't have the maids barge in on me while I was in the room.

After reviewing all hotels in the area and the option of a vacation rentals, I decided to go with this hotel due to the beachfront location and the price, as well as the availability of a kitchenette. I also was a little concerned that the satellite views showed a park between the hotel and the beach. The property was slightly dated, but that gave it a rustic charm, and the place was SPOTLESS ! The location was perfect as it was a few minutes walk to the Santa Monica Pier, and a short bike ride to Venice Beach to the south and the nice beaches to the north - with beachside cafes. We were able to rent bikes from the hotel. The only downside was having to pay 15 dollars a day for parking in their lot, but parking was very limited in the area. The hotel is right across the street from the beach, a 5-minute walk from the pier and a 15-minute walk from the promenade. I had a huge closet, mini fridge, coffee maker, everything I could have wanted except maybe a pool, but who needs a pool when the ocean is right there? The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgable too.

We choose this hotel from previous reviews and its proximity to the beach. This truely is just a "hop, skip and jump" from the beautiful Santa Monica beach and only a short walking distance from the pier. Wow! Rates at this hotel were much lower than the vast majority in this area, so I was skeptical ...until I arrived. I got an ocean view room on the top floor. It felt much more like a studio apartment than a hotel. My room had a kitchenette with a stove, fridge, and cabinet stocked with dishes and the like. I was able to get groceries and cook here […] instead of going to restraurants all the time! Huge plus. It is centrally located, within walking distance to all the downtown Santa Monica attractions and the beach is righ across the street. You can tell they put some effort into updating it, because the building itself is definitely older. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. The tub is even a very good size. They offer parking for a (very reasonable) additional charge. Free WiFi in the room. Who can live without that these days? The room had a flat-screen TV with standard cable channels, and an iPod dock/alarm clock. They even stock some beverages in the mini fridge and have snacks in the room (extra charge). Only one flaw: it took a really, really, really long time to get hot water up to the room. I had to let it run for awhile, but it did heat up nicely.
