Great location, but it feels like a dorm room. If you are looking for romance, go elsewhere. This place is a buzz kill in that department, and isn't that half the reason we all love staying at hotels...

"Great location!"
We had a great visit at Asilomar. We loved the location being so close to the beach. The area is quiet with pretty scenery. The rooms are spacious. The walls are a little thin, but didn't effect our trip. We would stay there again.

"Great location"
This hotel is in a great location. Enjoyed walking around and exploring the facilities and walking down to the beach. Very quiet and relaxing location. The rooms were clean but very dated. Surprised there was no TV or phone in the room. However, we weren't in the room much so it wasn't that big of a deal.

"Beautiful setting, lovely gathering spaces"
Asilomar is a gorgeous property for walking, gathering, or just being at peace. The staff are very helpful and extremely friendly. The cons: The beds, at least in our room, we're like concrete and very small. Our room lacked a phone, fridge, coffee maker. I was fine with the lack of tv. And to no fault of the hotel there was a large event in Pebble Beach during our stay. The music from this event drifted into our room until 2 am. Thank you for the ear plugs.

"Beautiful Historical Resort"
Drove in from SF and took a walk on the boardwalk trails... Amazing views with lots of places to rest and take pictures. Room was rustic in a good way. The hotel had a bonfire at night. Sat on the deck in the morning and watched the blue jays frolicking just a few feet away. Had white bean and kale soup... Delicious! all the benefits of camping, but you get to sleep in a bed and you get to have delicious food without the work. I will be back!!!

"Wonderful retreat"
Among other things Julia Morgan built San Simeon, AKA Hearst Castle, but Asilomar was the only commission where she was able to choose the materials and design. Local stone and wood nestle into the landscape, which is graced with Cypress trees, the beach, mule deer and scrub jays that curse the hell out of you.

"very relaxing stay at Asilomar"
we recently stayed two nights at Asilomar and had an excellent experience. our room was 'spartan' (more dorm room than hotel), but the grounds are beautiful, and the facilities (dining room, social area) are great. short walk to Asilomar State Beach, deer outside our room in the morning -> a unique atmosphere.

"a charming place for those into Green"
We have always wanted to stay here because we love the architecture of Julia Morgan built between 1913 and 1928. Each room features hardwood floors, rustic California furnishings and private bath. We were not disappointed. You can pick up free literature in the check in and take a walking tour explaining all the buildings she designed. You can even stay in the house she build during her design and build of Asilomar. Don't expect any over the top room features like television or soft fluffy "hotel" towels but you will get a nice room, comfy bed and a taste of history.

"Poorly furnished, Quiet, Scenic"
Overall OK. Great location. Loved walking the boardwalk. But little things were disappointing such as having a king sized bed but only one night stand, paying extra for a small fridge, no night light or dimmer, no elevator, etc. We would be OK with these things if it were inexpensive. We did not know there were so many other options just up the street.

"Our March 2015 stay at Asilomar"
We love staying at Asilomar. The grounds are beautifully maintained and if there is not a large conference going on, it is very quiet and peaceful. We can walk to the beach, walk the grounds, walk into town, eat at the restaurant on the grounds or the little bar/snack area. We will be returning frequently. Sure,we could stay in town or in Monterey, but we love the quiet of Asilomar.

"Paper thin walls on gorgeous grounds w/friendly st"
The staff was very friendly, and the main lobby area was very cozy. The grounds are incredible and the location near the beach was very nice. The walls were paper thin, and we could hear the couple in the next room f*çk!ng as though they were in our same room. We felt a little self-conscious after that. The room we were in was set up for an entire family stay, but the walls might not help with that. Not sure we'd go back unless we got an entire block of rooms for a group stay.

"We come back again and again"
I think of Asilomar as an old-time California treasure for the whole family. Was thrilled to be able to get reservations over President's Day weekend. Great jumping off point for whale watching this time, though the beach, golf courses, restaurants and aquarium are all close by. Granted, the facility is a little faded, but a degree of weathering along the coast is sortof inevitable. I have to agree with Aramark's advertised "sense of place". They're doing a credible job of managing the property, juggling conference and recreational use. There's good food too, and even rarer, great people. Easy to find a lively conversation, or quiet time to curl up with a book by the fireplace, eat s'mores, play the piano, pool, volleyball, swim, bicycle, etc. etc.

Asilomar was a cozy get away spot with very comfortable feeling to it as soon as you walk in. The area was peaceful and quiet. The beach is only a short walk away, and the weather was very nice. "Cozy hotel grounds, bonfires, fireplace...awesome!"
I stayed here with my boyfriend for a weekend getaway and it was perfect. We started the day by riding bikes right up to the hotel from the coast (you can also rent bikes right from the hotel, which is a great option. Later we walked to Fishwife for dinner and afterwards went down to the beach for a fire...they also have nightly bonfires and you can purchase smores packs as well. I booked a room with a fireplace and at night we played board games in front of the fire...a really nice treat. I wish I would have had booked 2 nights. There is so much to do and see here. I am already planning a second trip with my mom. --note: there is not tv, phone, etc. in the room, but I think that is what we enjoyed most!

"Meh"
The room smelled stale and a bit moldy. The common room was nice and fun, but a big family took it over, leaving a bunch of personal items on chairs. Making the rest of us feel less than welcome. Also, the clerk had no clue about how many rooms were available. He made a big show about how the place was full. But there were rooms and parking spaces everywhere. Service in general was poor.

"Return to summer camp"
The Asilomar occupies one of the most beautiful sites in the US. The highpoints of our stay were walks through the ocean dunes and along the beach at sunset and sunrise. The rooms are housed in a variety of buildings -some of them very old. Ours was the "stuck up inn" which dated to the days when the camp counselors occupied it while the campers were in tents. The social rooms have a nice atmosphere.

"worst check-in ever; spartan room."
The check-in was unbelievable inefficient. The line was rarely shorter than ten people; when the number dropped below ten, one of the clerks would take a break. Information had to be dragged from them. The room was spartan: paper-thin walls, minimal amenities. No TVs anywhere--instead (and this was interesting) everyone gathered in the gigantic lobby to play the piano, play pool, drink wine, read, look at their lap tops, play board games, etc. The whole experience reminded me of summer camp.

"Another wonderful adventure with my honey"
We came sat 5,left mon am. We had a great walk on the beach and the boardwalk. Dogs played, kids and surfers and birds were in the water. This was the first time my girl friend and I have visited the coast together. I came to Asilomar when I was 5. We ate at the fishwife. We walked point lobos, and came upon four dear. They grazed five feet from the trail and the waves crashed down over the cliffs. And on our way Home we spied the Monarch butterfly park. We celebrated our three year anniversary! And my girlfriend could find a good meal in the cafe and the coffee shop even with all her goofy allergies and superstitions. We will be back next year!

While the location and grounds were very beautiful, somehow we got stuck in the ugliest room possible with a bathroom door that did not work and I got stuck for several minutes until I was able to open the door by brute force. There was also black mold in the shower and the overall condition of the bathroom was gross. There was dust in the overhead vent and dirt on the floor and in the sink. Overall, the experience was good because the grounds were so beautiful and the weather was so nice. I will not go to this hotel again.

"A very Zen experience"
The surrounding are very beautiful. If you want a get away that will calm the senses this is the place. Historic lodge is bit austere. No phone or TV, with the bear minimum of creature comforts. Look out the window or walk thru the 30 acre of trails and that is easily the focus of the stay. A cup of coffee or zen tea at the lodge by the fireplace will relax and rejuvenate your spirit. Enjoy !

"Balcony"
Although Asilomar has beautiful grounds and pleasant accommodations not all of the rooms have private patios or balconies. Part of the enjoyment for overnighters is the ability to sit outside and soak in the fresh air and casually watch the beautiful grounds. I had to upgrade our room because there was no balcony or porch. They do charge extra for a fireplace which is nice when the weather is cool enough to use it. The only room available for upgrade was one with a fireplace which I paid an additional $22 for. I wish there was an option in ordering the room to include balcony or patio. Overall Asilomar is a wonderful place to be and reasonable when compared to hotels and motels in the area.

"Ten years makes a difference."
Last visit was 10 years ago. Loved Asilomar then. Beautiful grounds, great beach, close to PG. I liked the lack of TV's and telephones, the peace and quiet. This visit was different. Apparently there has been a change of management. Breakfast is no longer incl. and there is a "resort fee". Also, there is a bar with a tv tuned to sports in the main building. Loud group of singles mingling there one evening. Just not the atmosphere I expected. Our room was on the back side of bldg. with no breeze and the windows only opened 2 inches...very stuffy. Tried for a different room...no luck. They gave us a fan for two nights.

"Felt like a cross between camp and a college dorm"
This place hasn't been updated in 30 years. The corridors, doors to your room, and the furniture in the room itself are awful. The carpet is dingy and old but vacuumed. The walls were dirty - like visible black spots - and nicked, cut, scraped, and so were the furniture and the door to the room. There were fingerprints and hand prints all over the mirror on the back of the door and the windows. There was a huge dead moth on the floor. The good news: The bathroom had been at least wiped down (can't trust that it was cleaned) and the bed was comfortable and the sheets clean (though this is the kind of place you want to bring a blacklight). I had a great night's sleep though. Everyone we were with felt the same way, so it wasn't just our room. I had flashbacks of sleepaway camp. The navigation around the labyrinth is a nightmare, not to mention only one way so if you're driving and you miss something you have to go all the way around. The front desk staff were ok but not very happy, it was pretty obvious. Overall, this place needs to a) stop charging so much for what you're getting the value is atrocious and b) shut down for awhile and completely refurbish the rooms from top to bottom. The rustic charm works for the common areas. I wouldn't even call my room rustic I'd call it shoddy! And stop calling places "Halls," we're not in college. We were pretty shocked and disappointed.
