"Probably its good for students."
Don't expect any comfort about the hotel, room or the staff over there. The location is really good.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Escape from the noise of south beach"
Excellent, clean, great ambience and very friendly staff. Lovely outdoor kitchen in an enclosed courtyard with a good size pool surouned with tropical plants, very sweet hotel cat.Genuine Expedia guest review
When we booked thru expedia we should have done more research on the hotel itself rather than just the "nicer looking" photos expedia posted on the hotels behalf. After booking I looked up the hotel and realized it was half hostel! 2 young girls traveling by themselves and having seen the movie "hostel" we were pretty freaked out lol. It wasn't as bad […] as we thought as far as it being half hostel goes, BUT the room and whole hotel looks like it hasn't been updated since 1972 and there are NO outlets in the room. I'm exaggerating, there were 2 outlets and by two I mean 2. There was one jack along with the light to turn the room light on and one in the bathroom. The charge was WEAK and barely charged my phone leaving it plugged in ALL night. The lights all flickered and took a minute to turn on. The icing on the cake was the morning we woke up to head home we found a BED BUG ughhhhhhh. Nonetheless, we did our best to avoid even having to be in our room! I would only recommend this to ppl looking to be very cheap as SOBE is pricey. BUT not that we saw a possible bed bug the last night I don't think i could recommend it to anyone. That's just nasty. I wanted to take pix but I forgot. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
""Great location, lackluster service""
This seemed to be a "Miami Thing", but the woman who checked us in was quite unfriendly. We arrived on a red eye and wanted to see if we could get into the room early, however were told "not until 3" without her inquiring our name, room type, confirming that we had a reservation, etc. Nothing. We were met with blank stares.Genuine Expedia guest review

The place is a total dump. It needs to be torn down. For example, the elevetors did not work and no one worked on them while we were there and it looked like they had not worked for many months. Large 40 gal open trash cans in the hallways. It is all a mess. In addition people checking in were paying $83 a night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just a block away from the ocean"
Lots of fun at the Collin's Ave hotel/hostel, just a block from the ocean. Easy check in, huge lobby and a GREAT swimming pool. Hotel desk was VERY helpful every step of the way. This is a little jewel at a quarter of the price, of other hotels in the area. Will stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very old, hallways smelled damp and musty. Broken elevator. Could not regulate air condition (but at least it worked). No shampoo, extra bath tissue, or drinking cups. Less than basic accommodations. Would not recommend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Don't recommend at all.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Every thing was good except the thin walls. 3 AM awakened by someone's roommate trying to get in...banging on the door and shouting for a long time. Then loud talking and laughing for about a half hour. Could not go back to sleep...tired the next day instead of well rested.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very Old & outdated, walls are super thin, you can hear everything. Also, when I booked trip it never mentioned Hostel. Staff was friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I could not recomend this hotel to my friends"
The hotel is old and smell as old carpet. The service was not too bad.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for family"
Very good and nice staff and place is right center of the beach and all the restaurants and barsGenuine Expedia guest review
The staff was extremely helpful and obliging; however, it was kind of like staying in a hostel. The rooms were kind of dirty, there were very limited amenities, and they had a deposit for the key.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
If you can overlook this hotel's deficiencies, most of which are cosmetic, this hotel is a very good value. It has a superb location with the beach, Ocean Blvd., and Lincoln Ave shopping district all within a few blocks. The area outside never felt unsafe, and it was clean. A lot of the other tenants looked like college students and backpackers. The […] hotel is very old though. It is poorly decorated. Its halls are too dark. You can footsteps of people walking on the floor above you. The towels look 30 years old. The tile work in the bathroom looks like something from the house your mom grew up in. Our shower head didn't work -- only a trickle of water came out -- so I took it off. It was like showering under a garden hose. None of the bad stuff affected my enjoyment of South Beach whatsoever. It just made splurging on expensive dinners, drinks, etc, more justifiable because we were saving so much on the hotel compared to places across the street. I am a guy though. The Tropics was just a little too rough for my wife's liking. If you're going to South Beach with your buddies and enjoy saving money, stay here. If you're trying to impress a girl, stay away unless she appreciates a bargain and can handle the rough edges. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

very nice hotel, close to the beach and others attractions.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Dated but okay."
The room was pretty clean but very dated. There was different color tiles in the bathroom where tiles have been replaced, the grout was kind of dirty and old. They don't leave you any shampoo and conditioner in the room, the towls are small and there are only a couple of them in the room. There is a youth hostle in the hotel that I did not know about, […] and a shared kitchen, it did not bother me, but to some familys it might bother them. They did let us put our luggage in a locked closet in the lobby on the last day so we could go to the beach. It is in a good spot that was about 1/4 mile to the beach. "Art deco hotel leaps towards backpacker hostel."
Clean, great location, good price. Not for everyone. Great for the backpacker set in Miami Beach.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not a decent Hotel."
Very bad experience. I pay four nights and I only stay one. Very uncomforatable. Small beds, rusty toilet. AwfulGenuine Expedia guest review
"Seminar hotel for convention center"
The hotel is very old so don't expect anything but a bed, shower, pool and location. I stayed here because I needed something within walking distance to Convention Center. No coffee maker, iron or hair dryer. If you just need a place to sleep and this location suits your needs, it is okay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for the money"
The hotel provides a clean and comfortable night. The pool is a wonderful perk especially if it's a bad beach day. I enjoy the variety of travelers who are guests at the Tropics. I have stayed at this very convenient hotel in South Beach before and will stay here again. Thank you staff for a pleasant stay!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Fine for the $'s"
The hotel is a bit rundown (especially the hallways). The guests are (or were when i was there) primarily mid-20's, early-30's European beach-tourists - so it isn't as if the place is filled with complete-riff raff - that is unless that's what you would call such guests :-p .... It is in a very good location - and right across from the beach.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very Basic; Good for just a bed"
There was no hot water in our room. They said it would get hot over time but our shower stayed only luke warm. The bed was not comfortable. The guests were very loud. As an alternative to the very expensive surrounding hotels, this will definitely work if you are just looking to party. I was impressed, however, that the hotel provided nice shampoo and […] tooth paste samples :) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This is perhaps the worst hotel I have ever stayed at in my life, and I've stayed in hostels while touring Europe. Anyone that is considering staying at the Tropics should go there with very low expecatations. The location is great, but the staff was very rude and the room was dirty and dank. It was mid-August and the room was hot, but the A/C is centrally […] controlled so I couldn't adjust the temperature. The bed was probably at least 20 years old. My experience with the staff was the worst aspect of the stay. All three of the concierges that I met seemed annoyed that I had questions regarding the local area, etc. One of the concierges was hanging out with his boyfriend everytime I walked through the lobby, and his brusk personality came out if I interrupted their conversations. There is no parking available at this "hotel". I parked in a garage down the street, which cost about $20/day. Most of the other guests were tourists who were there to party on South Beach. The pool area was always crowded and loud. This is definitely not a place to take kids. Stay somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Okay for 1 night"
We had no other choice on a hotel in Miami Beach unless you wanted to pay a lot of $$$ for a night. This place was okay for just 1 night...can't do more than that. AC isn't controlled by you, so it gets real hot while you're sleeping. There was only 1 outlet in the entire room. Had to charge my phone in the bathroom. Pillows were tremendously flat...bed […] hard and uncomfortable. Bathroom looked really old with a small public bathroom type of toilet. No fridge, no microwave. If these things don't matter to you, you'll be good. Great location, just walking distance from beach and ocean ave. Hotel lobby is real nice. Great outdoor space with nice pool. "$20 deposit for room key and tv remote"
I stayed here because it was close to my meetings and stayed under my per diem rate. My room faced the parking garage next door, where car alarms and people shouting went on throughout the night. The bed sheets had distinct makeup stains of women's lipstick which remained all nights I was there. Other than that, the room was minimally furnished. No […] ironing board or iron, no directory or travel materials, no hotel instructions or phone numbers. I could hear guests in other rooms and heard one guest yelling in middle of the night for people to shut up. Parking is available at the garage next door for $16/day. Bring $20 cash for the deposit at the front desk for the room key and tv remote. The room key had a large metal rod attached to it so it was a pain to lug around in my pocket. I would recommend this hotel only if you are a bunch of cheap college students and for some reason want to go to Miami Beach (which isn't cheap by any means). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice staff, clean hotel, great location"
Staff was really nice. Pool is huge! Hotel also holds hostel rooms, but I would only stay in one of the private rooms. Room was clean and stocked with towels. AC is difficult to control, but since its usually super hot in miami, you wont mind. Definitely will consider coming here again unless I can afford something more expensive. But, hotel is a decent […] price is a really good location! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel is very well located. However, I went to my room that was supposed to me a non smoking, and it smelled terrible, I felt the blanket wasn't clean, the noise that came from the other rooms was terrible, I couldn't sleep. The locks didn't make me feel safe. I paid for four days and I stayed only one night because I didn't like the hotel and also […] during memoria weekend I don't recommend to go to South Beach, is too crowded, Lot of people drinking and making noise, Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"South Beach, very close to beach, shops & food"
We stayed 5 nights at The Tropics as a getaway before a cruise, and we are Very Impressed! It is located in South Beach, within easy walking distance to the beach, shopping and night life. The room was smaller than what we expected but it was really clean. Me and a friend of mine stayed at this hotel for one week and the worst thing in the hotel was really the bed, so uncomfortable!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Worst stay ever"
The rooms are super small I thought I was in a crapy motel... They still have keys yes keys no cards and every time no matter what if you left that building you had to turn in your key and get it when you come back in. smhGenuine Expedia guest review
"Stay away from this hotel"
Most apathetic and unhelpful staff. Strongly recommend against anyone who wants to have a pleasant stay. Not worth the price you put on it. Staff is totally not interested in solving small hotel problems like checking out the air conditioning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cash for the key!"
It should be noted somewhere that you need to have 20 usd in cash to get the key to the room. Creditcard is not good and this creates problem if you do not know it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"May have been nice a long time ago"
I can't imagine ever staying in this hotel again. The place is ancient, the elevator scared me to ride on, the service was (at it's best) indifferent, and it generally creeped me out. I stayed at a different hotel (also through Hotels.com) a couple years ago in the same area, THAT was a hotel, this was a dump with a check-in counter. If you decide […] to stay here, make sure to bring at least $20 cash. You'll need it at checkin as a depost just to get your room key. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this hole. Very Basic. Get what you pay for. Room had no fridge and poor ac. hallways are odd. internet in lobby only nice locationGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was ok, if you look for comfort it is not the best place (kind of old, no wi-fi in the rooms). But the room was neat and clean and the location is priceless.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Short stay for Convention"
This is not a luxury hotel by any means, more like a well-worn hostel. But, for our purposes, it was a perfect location and price. The room and bathroom were clean and functional, and the location was within walking distance to Lincoln Road and the Miami Convention Center. We were a little disappointed in the lack of extra toilet paper, and lack of […] washcloths, but those were rectified immediately. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a short stay.
