Lovely hotel, SUPER COMFORTABLE BEDS and AWESOME SHOWER! I will definitely stay here again on future trips.

I stayed recently at the hotel which is centrally situated, not from from SMU, in a lovely part of Dallas. It is clean, well kept and the staff could not be nicer and more hospitable. My lone issue was that I was not informed prior to arriving at my room that it was completely interior and had NO window, making it a little spooky. They have a shuttle at the guest disposition if you need it, at no extra cost. At 5:00p.m theyhavewine and a chef special for guests at no extra charge. My stay at the Hotel Lumen was very good and can be summarized in two dimensions: outstanding modern design and good customer service. The hotel's interior is sleek, modern, and fresh. The rooms have beautiful bathrooms and modern furnishings. At times it feels like a boutique version of a W Hotel, and you actually think you are in a W Hotel but for […] a much more affordable price. This hotel really is in the 4 star category, even though some places list it as 3-3.5 stars. The only downside of the design is that the mattress bed sits directly on a hard wooden platform, which causes the mattress to feel a little on the hard side. I think they should add some kind of layer to soften the mattresses up. Some have reported that the water in the shower leaks onto the floor, but I didn't have this issue. Normally I stay downtown when in Dallas for business, but the hotels downtown were sold out for a convention. The location is a little out of the way but is great for those with business at SMU. The location was still not that inconvenient and just a 10-15 minute drive from downtown. The service was outstanding and friendly, and the manager even greeted us and acknowledged the long work day we had (he greeted us early in the morning and saw us come in late at night after work). If this hotel were in downtown, it really would be a gem and full every night, much like the W Dallas. Read more

Nice enough for the money. Service was excellent. Had to move rooms upon checkin because the first one they put me in was like a motel 6 closet with a shower exposed to the room, and just a tiny non-opening window. They were super nice and moved me to a room with balcony but I can't believe the other room was not much much cheaper. I was very excited […] for the restaurant after seeing the menu...SUPER disappointing, awful food (except the fried chicken and the mashed root veggies). Had to send items back even. They really need to pull that together. Tried for breakfast and similarly disappointed. The bar service was also pretty blah. Oh and the restaurant exhausts into the lobby and elevator shaft, so every time you come home, you smell yucky fish cooking. Ew. I would have preferred a bathtub; there was only a shower. There was no iron or ironing board in the room. The room was comfortable but rather small. The linens were very comfortable. There was no coffee maker.

It was great to walk right across the street to smu but the Lumen is more like a 3-star motel. Cool vibe and decor. But no room service and the bed was hard as a rock. The website said pillow top mattresses but they were not. I barely slept for two nights. Construction during our stay - not told of this when we booked. Drinks in bar were short pours - literally not full glasses. Laissez faire attitude from the staff. If this was the first Kimpton property I stayed at, I'd have never stayed at another. Try the Palomar instead.

The staff makes this styling little hotel; they are friendly and service oriented in a non-pretentious way. The location is sweet if you don't want to be in the downtown area, right across the street from SMU in the old-money Highland Park neighborhood. I enjoyed both the complimentary morning coffee and evening wine/beer offerings. I requested a goldfish […] and was promptly brought one but I didn't think it was normal that it was floating upside down on it's belly gasping for breath, so the staff brought me a healthier that brightened my room for my 3-day stay. The only negative was there was some construction going on in an expansion of the hotel that started as early as 6:30 am, disturbing any chance to sleep in. I was very disappointed when I arrived in my room to find out that I was in an interior room, NO WINDOWS. I am claustrophobic so this was really upsetting. The hotel was full so they could not give my another room. This is something that should be mentioned when booking a room.

Nice staff, good food, poor service. Room without a window. Called for an iron the iron was sticky. Had to phone for another one. No toiletries left in the room for 2 nights. Housekeeping did not lock my door when they finished. Need I say any more.....NEVER, NEVER, NEVER again will I stay there.
