Best Western Plus Sandcastle Beachfront Hotel

We stayed at Sandcastle 3 years ago. They have been renovating since then and what an improvement. Didn't even recognize the foyer! And the full breakfast buffet was a welcomed plus. I thought I had read that the pool had been renovated but it hasn't - so still probably not a good place for small children as the pool starts out at 3 foot and goes to […] 6 foot - which is directly besides what is called a baby pool but looks more like a hot tub. And I still like the parking deck - although a bit dark makes it so easy to un pack and pack. Most hotels don't have this and you end up having to park 2 blocks away. Renovations are still going on and while we didn't hear anything on the 5th floor a boy on the elevator who was on the 9th floor did mention about hearing banging all day. Good location and more on the quiet end of VA Beach which we like. We will be back! Read more

Good location and excellent breakfast selection. The pool was not heated and it was suppose to be. There was construction outside the pool area so it couldn't be utilized. With beach front location it was not a big deal. We would stay there again.

First impression was fine, it's a pretty decent hotel, we got there a later than check-in, got inP the room and liked the view, the room was clean and standard, no comments about it, the view was nice even if we're on the second floor. The only problem in our room was the safety deposit box that was not working, we had to call the front-desk to have […] the maintenance fix it and it took at least an hour or two not to be able to leave the room. We went to the indoor pool and needed some towels, no towels, went to the front-desk and they said they're out of towels! ok we have to go back to the room and get one. Enjoyed the whole day and got to the room at midnight with my 10 year old boy, so tired, tried to open our room and key wasn't working, it took us 15 minutes to figure it out and gave up, so I made a trip to the lobby again and asked them for help, the lady on the front-desk was not really willing to help and had a frown on her face all the time we were walking on the way to the room..then it turned out the door lock had a problem, she told us we just have to play with the knob until it opens, are you kidding me?! I've never have that problem in any hotels I've stayed so the next day I asked them kindly if we could stay at least an hour later since we had a lot of issue and it delayed us from enjoying the area and they said they can't, so I said that was it, this hotel would never have any penny from me or my extended family again..Never Again! Totally enjoyed our visit. Only complaint would be the wait on the elevators, but I took advantage and used the stairs. After an all-you-can-eat-breakfast, I definitely needed the added exercise! Housekeepers actknowledged us in passing, very polite especially Ronald, the maintence man. I will and already have started to recommend this hotel!!!

Hotel is located close to the pier for fishing and close to the free entertainment on beech street. The hotel was still being remodeled but was not an inconvenience. Parking was always available in the garage. We would go back.

I question the legitimacy of the previously reviews for the Sandcastle Hotel.. When we arrived the Front Desk Staff seemed annoyed that we booked through Hotel's.com ( as they call it a "third party booking." ) We were actually scolded for not booking with the hotel directly. There was a young brunette lady who was quite rude. We were asked to wait […] in the Lobby with two young children because they claim our reservation had not yet been confirmed by Hotel's.com. When we arrived to our room it was cramp and musty. The beds had crumbs in between the sheets. We were only given two towels for a family of four and we were electronically locked out of our room before check-out time. We do a lot of traveling and this was by far the worse hotel we have ever stayed in! Extremely poor customer service! Read more

great enjoyed the ocean view. the breakfast was nice, except that there were no fruits (fresh). The staff was willing to go extra mile in their service particularly the waitresses. Front desk staff was also very courteous. Hotel is close to most of the evening events/activities but it is not part of the action WHICH IS GREAT!!!

My wife and I had 5 nights of stay at Sandcastle in VA Beach it was the best experience, we been coming to the area since we got married in 2000 and come back every year since then. We stayed at the Holiday Inn's on boardwalk but never got the feeling of pride that we experienced here, the employee's smile, speak, help in any way they can. This will […] be our hotel from now on. This was our first stay at the Sandcastle so I don't know what to base it on as far as the remodeling, but they were still working on it when we got there in August and advertised it was completed in June. The room was nice, but there was a frayed place where the carpet and floor met, the light that hung from the ceiling in front of the window was leaking […] water on the table at times, the internet was not working most of the time, had a very hard time connecting and my husband could never get on his computer while we were there ( not that we spent a lot of time on the computer, but it was pouring rain one morning so we wanted to pass time) and they reset the code every Sunday but was not told that when we arrived. The breakfast was nice but I wanted to take my food up to the room and eat on the balcony but you cant take any food out , you have to eat there. It is located in a central location to everything which was nice. The staff are very friendly. Fridge was nice and kept everything really cold. We were given no code for the safe, so not sure if you are charged more for its use or not. We did have a great time, but was disappointed in the above mentioned things. Read more

At check in I was charged an extra $10 per night for a 14 year old who is was considered an adult, most other hotels children were free up to age of 16. The balcony above us was constantly dripping water down and splashing on you when sitting outside. Room was nothing like pictures show on internet. We enjoyed our stay, despite the occassional rain. The only real complants would be that of the doors going out to the parking garage's that were so terriably loud, which in turn disrupted our sleep. There was no padding covering the door jams, so the doors just slammed shut any time someone went thru them. Very annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the mattresses, […] which were higher at the foot end of the bed rather than being straight. We were forced to sleep with our heads at the foot end of the beds. The mattresses are in need of replacement, as they were sagging to the middle(quite hard on the back). We loved to sit on our balcony watching people; and the rain; all the while being protected by the balcony space. The view of the ocean was awesome and the location of the hotel in proximity to the main attractions was great. The complimentary breakfast buffet was just outstanding. Other than the fact that the hotel was still under renovation and there were a lot of construction workers present...everything else about this hotel was excellent. We needed an extra patio chair, bed linens, towels and phone repair, each time we requested something it was handled within minutes. The breakfast included was more than a continental bkfst […] and the juice bar my kids really liked too. We also utilized the store on premises quite a bit as well. They also have a complimentary juice, water, and coffee bar that is available 24 hours a day. The room was small I thought it would be bigger since we needed a roll away bed. We could not unpack since there was no closet just a small armoire which could not fit clothes for 5 people. The bathroom was tiny and had no room for 5 toothbrushes.

Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Free daily breakfast was great, food was always hot and fresh. Great location. We parked the day we arrived and walked to everything we wanted to see and do. There was still some remodeling going on but noise was never a problem and hotel was still kept very clean.
