"Spacious, comfortable, good for groups"
We were traveling with 2 couples and looking for an affordable option with some privacy. Shoshone was perfect because each apartment has a separate bedroom and 2 bathrooms. The living room also has a very comfortable queen size murphy bed. This means, at night the living room turns into a proper second bedroom with a real bed and private bathroom. The […] apartment is not new but incredibly well maintained. Staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Surroundings were stunning. Walk straight from the hotel onto the mountain. "Great Mountain/Yellowstone Park Lodging"
We really enjoyed our recent stay at the Shoshone Big Sky. The staff is great. The rooms and Lodge are well kept. They have alot of activities from the Lone Peak, Zipline, Paintball, Mountain biking, etc at the basecamp. Those guides are great !!!!!!!!! The sites from Big Sky are second to none. We hope to revisit soonGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This is our fourth stay at the big sky area. We previously stayed at Shoshone and the last year stayed at a nearby hotel. we couldn't wait to return to Shoshone! Nicely furnished accommodations, convenient, clean and the the staff is very helpful. we have reservations for next year-it is a beautiful place!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great summer stay"
We stayed at Shoshone for 4 nights. Nice condo for fam of 4. About 10 miles up the mountain from the main highway. Pretty location; be prepared to drive a bit extra. Stores were open only limited hours b/c low-season. Very quiet. Staff friendly and helpful. Great pool and fitness center. Nice restaurant. More choices at other hotels in area. Around […] an hour to Yellowstone; 45 min to Bozeman. Big place; must be hustling during ski season. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very Good Food"
The coffee shop was poor with poor quality of coffee and poor service. We found the mattress to be stiff and uncomfortable. Suite was spacious, staff generally were very helpful and the two restaurants were very good - one in each of the Summit and the Huntley.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel in many ways...room service sucks"
02/15/14 solomonneuhardt Billings, Montana
Love the condos. Great view of the mountain. Great front desk help. Great concierge. Easy access to ski area. Love the service that holds your skis for you overnight. Great for a family. Now the issue...called room service several times during various hours of the morning. No one would answer the phone. Didn't even ring. Called front desk and asked them to transfer. They did and again no ring. Asked front desk what was going on and they said room service was busy and that was all. For the incredible amount of money that room service charges you would think they would tap dance to your door. Not.
"The best place to ski for families."
We love Big Sky! It is great for families with different skiing levels. The lifts are not crowded and the slopes are wide! The Shoshone Condominiums were clean ski in ski out and the one bedroom was very comfortable for our family if 4. The local villages were easily accessible by bus for great shopping.

I would always choose the Shoshone, with family or on business. These spacious condominiums let you really enjoy your stay. Well located, great staff and the best view imaginable. Come for a couple of days or a week or more. Summer, after labor day, is the best time to enjoy the outdoor attractions including excursions up the mountains for a great hike or just a fantastic view. A wonderful place for a business meeting as well.
"Wonderful Accommodations & Beautiful Vista"

We stayed here 6 days for a conference and we liked the flexibility of having our own kitchen. The room was huge for the two of us and it would have been ideal if we brought our kids because they even had a murphy bed in the room. Our room was on the first floor so it was convenient and easy to get to everything. The view overlooking the front of the hotel wasn't the most exciting, but once you got out outside the views were spectacular. The pool is lovely and they have tons of activities at the hotel as well as in Big Sky itself. We did whitewater rafting and fly fishing and hiking. The very best thing I can say about the Shoshone is the staff. They are so accommodating and helpful. They even let us have the lastest check out I've ever had (3pm) because we had a late flight. We'd love to come back in the winter and check out the skiing.

We stayed at Shoshone on our summer trip. Originally only booked one day but decided to extend the stay by one day and cancel a night elsewhere. Big Sky is absolutely incredible. We started making plans to visit in the winter and ski. But even in the summer there was plenty to do in the form of outdoor activities. During the summer the restaurants and shops are short staffed so you need not be in a hurry anywhere. Also, the lodge is a lottle confusing at first to navagate because it is two resorts connected as one. Once you figure out the lobby area and how to navigate then things are great. If in Big Sky be sure to stay at Shoshone.
"No crowds & great atmosphere"

Lodging: We originally booked the Summit but they moved us to the Shoshone. While not happy at first, we were convinced that the one bedroom condominium would be better than the one hotel room with two double beds at the Summit (same price). We are lucky it worked out that way. There was a ton of storage space - closets, cabinets, and shelves. The kids had the living room with their own bathroom while we had our own bedroom and bath. Our condo unit was very cozy, and we expected it to be much older given past reviews. While the oven wasn't as current as ours at home, the appliances were not 70s as others described it. We were very comfortable and felt the Shoshone had more to offer: big pool/sauna/steam, better lobby, wonderful breakfast buffet at Chet's, spa, and huge laundry facility. A previous poster said he wasn't pleased with the laundry facility and that was my main concern. I am not sure if there was one at Shoshone, but I went to the basement of Huntley (they are attached). $1.25 to do a load and $1.25 to dry with maybe 10 machines for each? As long as I didn't overfill my load they dried perfectly. We would not stay at Huntley - very old and not updated. The price hike at Summit is not worth it to be only a few steps closer while Shoshone is very convenient. We did check our skis each night with Yo at the base ($120/week for family of four). Worth it! The only downside to me was the workout room/pool area. The hot tub and pool were kind of neat being able to swim from inside to outside, and our kids loved it. I tried to workout there, and I could barely see or breathe because of all of the steam coming from the hot tubs. Not a great workout room at all, but then again I was there to ski for my workout so not a huge deal. We ski everywhere: annually in Utah, lived in Colorado. Are used to staying in homes or condos where I feel like I work the entire trip. This topped our ski vacation list. Not only was Big Sky a huge mountain with a variety of terrain, the Village was top notch. You can't beat this huge mountain especially given the fact that if you need more (you won't) you can easily ski Moonlight Basin too. You even get two lifts of Moonlight with your Big Sky pass. The only thing missing were big lodges on the mountain to grab lunch. There were a couple of huts and one lodge closed, so the only option was to do a sit-down restaurant in the village. There was the hamburger hut where you sit outside, and the kids still talk about Yeti Dog but again nowhere inside to sit and warm up. We never got bored with evening meals, everything is right there, it is the best mountain for families, and you never have to leave. You can't beat the FREE kids club 4-6pm with a different theme each day. They also loved the base activities such as tubing, bungee trampoline, rock wall. Transportation: This is the first time we haven't rented a car and saved about $1K. We took a Karst bus to/from Bozeman and loved it. We got the full tour: were shown Ted Turner's buffalo herd, saw the moose hangout along the highway, where "a river runs through it" was filmed along the Gallatin river, the big horn sheep on the way, educated about Montana life, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park. Can't say enough about this experience. The only must-do's we will do upon returning are the dogsled tour and yurt dinner. Overall we were so pleased with the value of this vacation. This gives you the true local Montana feel. If you are all about the powder and less the Aspen-like atmosphere, this resort is for you. Bring your jeans and sweaters, leave your furs at home. We will definitely be back regularly!

Stayed on 2nd floor, 1 bedroom condo; room 1919. Our room over looked the front hotel entrance, so not a great view, but that did not bother us. There was very little traffic/noise in the hall ways or rooms above us. The room was Very clean, plenty of room; toiletries provided in both baths(2). Full kitchen. I didn't look to see if the sofa pulled out to a bed, but there was a pull down bed in the living room that looked decent ( did not use ). The bedroom was a nice size with king bed, which was so comfortable, I didn't want to get out of it in the morning. The tempertaure control in the room was a little tricky to get used to.. the offer some type of energy savings model, and its preset, and recommend you leaving it at that setting, but you can use the keycard to adjust the temperature.. which we had to actually put the air conditioning on, because the room was too warm for me ( 72 ). I read a previous review about this being a family condo... there were kids, but not over-run at all. The entire resort is not crowded. The staff were very friendly as well. In the lobby, there were 2 water dispesensers with fresh water with oranges in it, which was very nice. There was also one in the gym area. At check-in make sure to grab the 'whats happening' sheet, which tells you what activities are happening at different restaurants and bars that week. You can walk to either the village center within a few minutes, or to the (i think it was Explorer lift ). On our last day, as we got into the elevator to go back to our room, we noticed a sign that said 'no skis in room, check them with the valet'.... We had no idea where the valet was, nor did they tell that us upon check-in. No one ever said anything to us as we walked each day through the hotel with our skis. It was a short walk, but would have been even nicer if we had know where the valet was ( i assume it was closer ) - so i would inquire about that before you did as we did. The only reason i'm not giving this a 5 star, is because of the hot tub and pool area. Where it is very large and accomodating, it was extremely dirty. The Shoshone hot tub and pool is accessed from inside the gym area, which is really a nice feature, so you don't have to freeze after getting out of the water. You get in the hot tub inside, and you can then move to the adjoined pool to the outside. The pool, again, was very very dirty. I did not ask the staff, but I've never been in a dirtier one :(. We went over to the Huntly's ( which you can reach from within ShoShone - your key card works over there as well ). They offer 2 seperate hot tubs, and one heated pool. Both were in the same dirty condition ( as i assume both are maintained by the same people/company ). There is also a free shuttle that goes around the mountain and down to the lower village area to try different restaurants and shops ( not a large assorment, as this is not a crowded / chain-type place ). I only wished they had given us some information when we checked in about the shuttles and different restaurants and bars in the area and on the mountain. We had to look everything up on the interent ourselves. I would stay here again tho, it was an amazing ski mountain.
"So Laid Back -- We Loved It"

This was our first visit to Big Sky and the skiing, condo and staff all exceeded our expectations. Thanks to TripAdvisor, we asked for a one-bedroom corner unit which was spacious, clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated in Native American patterns and colors. Our corner unit (#1939 on the 4th floor, I think) was the perfect size for our family of three. The Murphy bed in the living room was perfect for our daughter and everything in the kitchen worked well for simple meal preparation. SInce it was at the end of the hall, our unit was also very quiet. The Huntley Dining room breakfast buffet was plentiful and a good way to eat quickly before hitting the slopes (but no one rushes you out). The free downstairs ski storage was convenient as it is an easy 5 minute walk to the lifts from there. There are lots of dining options for lunch at the base of the mountain, from restaurants to the cafeteria or you can easily walk back to the Shoshone. After skiing, we loved relaxing in the hotel whirlpool, which leads through a tunnel to the super heated outdoor pool. It was a great way to unwind at the end of the day, followed by the sauna. We had dinner one night in the bar of the Huntley Dining Room and the food was very good with lots of menu variety. There are roaring fires in both the Huntley Lobby and in the Shoshone Bar area with lots of comfy chairs for reading or relaxing. There are mostly families here and little to no nightlife which suits us just fine. This is a very unpretentious place, where no one minds if you clomp through the lobby in your ski boots -- a very refreshing type of attitude (or lack of it). Given that we were there for the busiest week of they year (between Christmas and New Year's) and that we barely waited 5 minutes for the lift on the busiest afternoon, it was a real pleasure to ski here. The trails are well groomed, the sun was out, the snow was packed powder and the whole place is (by our East Coast standards) fairly deserted and peaceful. What more could you ask? Oh, and our daughter had a great lesson at the ski school. We definitely plan to return.
"Great Place for families - watch out it is changing"
01/07/13 JAM360 Chicago
We have visited Big Sky and the resort for the last 8-10 years. We have loved Big Sky from summer to fall and well into winter. Global warming is hitting everywhere and for the most part skiing @ Big Sky is better than most Colorado places. My family includes 2 adults and 2 tweens. We always book way early before the packages are put together; have to because the one direct flight is very expensive and gets booked quickly. The airline gets 2 stars just because of this. Big Sky now has a central reservations person work with you until you arrive to alert you to ups/ downs in reservations, packages etc. The only problem is they come and go and you don't know when it is happening until you remember oh oh we are leaving in 1 month. My reservation for the corner unit identified every year for 9 years, confirmed again with rep #3 2 months before leaving was given away at check in. We settled for the only thing available ...a standard 1 bedroom condo NOT suitable for 2 adults and 2 active kids. It is in the layout and the corner unit is more commodious, you do not bang your head on the chandelier, the dining chairs allow you to open the dishwasher or cabinet doors while another is cleaning off the table, and yes, when I have to work there is a desk in the corner unit. I do have to work sometimes, but I don't appreciate crammed into a very wet corner due to the icing on the windows on an end table. Do not be fooled. Big Sky has very little to no night life which is why we love it. It is all about the outdoors. Ski ski ski!! No one (yet) wears furs - it used to be taboo! Though this year, we understand they hit record numbers of people and people were buying the un-pc "stuff". And still we experienced very little wait times at the lifts. Boyne resorts run the place; this may be changing however I hope not. The management staff are friendly but what Boyne does not get - you cannot forget the people that stuck with you during the tough times. The ski school is basically very good. If you get a good instructor like we did for the kids the first of 3 of 5 days we were there great. These kids ski black diamonds and building confidence to go farther. The last 2 days should have been great however the teaching staff they had should have stayed home. They yelled and screamed and deflated confidence for the students in a very large class (11 to 1 which is wrong). What do you do? They did not want to be there. Will I go back? probably because it is a beautiful place but I will stay vigilant re: accommodations. You will like the place but go soon because it will turn into a Colorado disappointment. Remember when?
"Awesome condo mountain viewa"

from my humble perspective an awesome condo hotel location. recently renovated. I travel constantly and # 1968 my corner unit was a refreshing change from the norm. perfect for families, skiers and those who love mountain resorts. In the valley the temperature rises well up in the high nineties in August - here at 7,500 feet the temperature is at least 7 degrees lower.
