"Cheboygan River View - great time"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 23, 2012
We enjoyed our stay very much, the room was clean, the staff was friendly and the jacuzzi tub was awesome. We've stayed there several times and have a good experience each time. Will return again.
"A Few Minor Problems"Reviewed by Douglas C of "Warren, MI" on Jan 17, 2012
Hot water was not very well regulated. It would come and go when water in the next room was being used. The breakfast buffet was good, but a circuit would trip when both waffle irons were being used. There was an attendant that would reset the fuse, but as an electrician I felt this was problem that can easily be rectified. Otherwise, a fire could occur, and that is very dangerous for a hotel.
"Clean, quiet, convenient/ Anchor Inn, Mackinaw, MI"Reviewed by Renee B of "MI" on Oct 25, 2011
This is a motel apparently in the process of renovation. My room was very acceptable. The mattress was comfortable, linens clean, room clean. All I was interested in was a clean, quiet place to sleep while on my way further North. They were two days away from closing for the season, yet I did not feel the service was compromised because of that. The pool was closed. No problem for me. I didn't check out the complimentary breakfast because I brought my own. I always do while traveling. The price was right and I got a full 12 hours sleep (I was REALLY tired !) and was up, rested, and on my way the next day by check out time. I would stop there again.
"Good value for the price"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 21, 2011

"Very nice stay!"
The visit was wonderful! What a neat island!
"The Island House Hotel on Mackinac Island, Mi."
The staff was friendly and helpful; the location to other points of interest was excellent and we very much enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of the hotel restaurant. A good choice for more economy-minded tourists! Our 2 night stay was very satisfactory.

"Island House on Mackinaw Island"
We were very happy with the Island House. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was great! We were thrilled to find out it had a pool and it was indoor and very nice! We would recommend this hotel to anyone staying on the island. We enjoyed our stay very much!
Room small but pleasant. Breakfast was great, loved the variety of food! Also, the view of the harbor from room was wonderful.
"Island House on Mackinac Island"
We throughly enjoyed it. Our room was very nice and comfortable. It was located close to everything we needed. The staff was friendly. We have already recommended it to family and friends.

"Island House on Mackinaw Island"
Room was very small and needed updating. True that the Hotel is over 150 years old, however, everything seem cheap and need of painting and updating. Rooms were expensive. I've stayed in a nicer Motel 6. Breakfast was great. Lobby and front fascade were also very nice.
"The hotel on Mackinaw Island-close to the fort"
We waited almost 2 hours for our luggge to be brought from the dock and delievered to our room. The front desk staff was courteous but couldn't offer an explanation why we had to wait so long. The wait staff we experienced over breakfast were very delightful. Each morning we were greeted in the restaurant and very well taken care of. Our room was clean […] but the air conditioner didn't work well. It was very old.The hotel lobby area could use some TLC. The furniture is old and dirty. All in all we enjoyed our stay. Read more
"As beautiful as the Grand Hotel!"
We really loved this hotel-up on a hill and you could see the beautiful lake and boats. Loved the porch and flowers-the hotel was excellent. Very quiet-not on top of the hub-bub but you had very easy access. We brought our bikes-well worth it! I loved how the hotel brought your luggage to you from the ferry, and took it back to the mainland so we could […] still enjoy the island after we checked out. I actually picked this hotel for the beautiful porches and how it sat on the hill. It really reminded me of the Grand Hotel-for a fraction of the price! Read more
"The Island House Hotel"
We returned this year to the Island House. What it lacks in modern updating it more than makes up for in friendliness and location. The hotel itself has a wonderful view of the harbor, and they have chairs on the lawn in front of a fire, where we can visit (or not!) with other guests, and watch the bikes and horses pass by. It really is lovely, and […] we will come back next year...... Read more
"Great Stay"
Had a wonderful time. Island house had a lot of history which we enjoyed learning as well as the perfect location to harbor, downtown and ferries. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and the staff friendly and helpful. Loved our visit.
"The Island House Hotel in Mackinac City, Michigan"
is charming, quaint, and everything I had imagined. The setting is lovely and the flowers magnificent. At breakfast, the kids announced they felt as though they were on a cruise ship with the views of the water and the elegance of the dining room. All and all, it was all that we had hoped for.
"Anniversary stay in Island Hotel"
My husband and I were so pleased with the receptionists, our room which was on the top floor overlooking the lake, and the breakfast. We loved everything about our stay and would return and recommend it to our friends.

"It's okay...."
I would like to have a third option for recommending this hotel to others....possibly. I've stayed many places on Mackinac Island, from B & Bs to the Grand Hotel. We had guests with us and I booked two rooms...we didn't want "formal" so we went with Island House. Island House is an adequate place to stay but I think our room was more in a state of […] disrepair than I expected. There was nothing about the decor that even remotely looked like it was supposed to "go together"....where wall paper was peeled off, there was no replacement. Fixtures old, lighting over the sink in the room (the only place for make-up and hair) was very inadequate. As with all my hotels.com reservations when booking two rooms, we received one as described when booking the reservation and the other well below what we requested. The couple checking in ahead of us had a HUGE package.... obviously they paid much more and I felt our price was very fair. However, with so many options on the island, I will probably try something else before heading back to the Island House again. Read more
"Wife's Birthday Surprise"
The staff was helpful. Dan the manager of the dinnig room and his staff were very professional we enjoyed the dinning. Dave the bar tender a local provided great conversation and service - espcially the beer choices. I left my smartphone charger on the main land and the staff located a loaner for me. The room was wonderful. LOVE our stay

"The Island House hotel on Macinac Island-"
The service was perfection. The location, while still walkable to town was not on the noisy part of main street amongst the shops, pubs, and restaurants. The orignal and authentic wood rockers, complete with a creak, added to the relaxation on the front porch as we overlooked the harbor.
"Perfect location"
We loved our stay at The Island House. The breakfast was great! The location was perfect, close to the downtown night life and shopping. There are so many outdoor areas to hang out and relax. I would definatly stay there again.

This is a great Hotel with a great staff in a great location. Would stay there again.
"Island House on Mackinac Is. - a little tired"
Our room was quite small. The hotel is old and in need of renovation. Service was good. Food good. I would check out other options on Mackinac or stay in Mackinac City and ferry over for the day.
"Island House Hotel on Mackinac Island"
What a great place to vacation! We love Mackinac Island and the Island House Hotel was a great choice. The hotel was a short walk from the ferry landing and close to everything. We rented bicycles at the hotel and took a leisurely tour of the island. I have already recommended this hotel to several friends.
"Excellent location on Mackinac Island!"
Although the room was tiny, it was very well kept! Very clean and the breakfast was amazing! Biggest complaint is that the front desk lady was not friendly at all. It was the only thing that left a "bad taste" in my mouth. Location was amazing though! Definitely would check out the other options first next time.
"Like the Grand but you wont be a snob!"
My wife and i stayed at the island house in late July 2011 and i wanted to go back the second we headed back to the city via the ferry. it was such a great experience. the staff is freindly and our room was unique and cozy with a great view for a reasonable price. Staying anywhere on the island is going to be pricey, and just so everyone understands […] the hotels and homes on the island are supposed to look like the late 19th century. thats the charm. But, the island house offers a fantastic breakfast buffett included with your room. and this breakfast is as good as anywhere on the island. the whole look and feel of the place reminds me of the Grand. at least what i can see of the grand without paying $10 for the privelage of stepping withing 200 ft. its a classic hotel with a real victorian feel to it. do yourself a favor and get to the island house's ice house bar and grill restaurant located in the back of the hotel. its a great meal for a good price and the yard seating is quite and secluded. i have stayed at only one other hotel on the island (the Main street inn) and honestly i prefer the island house, even though i stayed at the Main street inn...for free! overall its a great place with a classic feel. and please don't write a review that asks these hotels and shops to "update" thier look, this is what Mackinac island is all about. deal with it! "Great Location"
Island House is located right across from the Marina and is in a very good location. Our room was pretty good, but it was very small and our view looked over rooftops and staircases. There wasn't anything special about our room except for the air conditioning which was very nice.
"Great place to stay on the island"
This hotel is just fanatastic. It offers a great view from the "front porch" of the marina and Lake Huron. It has a very cozy atmosphere which makes you feel right at home!!! You will enjoy your stay here!!!
"Close to main strip"
Call and make reservation on the phone if you want more than 1 room. We had a large family reunion and we were on 3 different floors. It most likely would have been cheaper too. There is a lot of nice B&B's in the area cheaper.
"Loved the experience!"
My 11 year old daughter and I spent 3 nights at the Island House and were thrilled! We knew it was an old hotel so kept our expectations low. The room was small but clean and "cute". It added to the charm of our experience. The breakfast that was included was nice and kept the meal costs down. We loved the chance to make s'mores in the chiminea out […] front. The weather during our stay was perfect so we were hardly in the room. It was quiet in our wing so for sleeping it was great! The hotel maid did a nice job freshening up our room. My daughter loved the pool and we enjoyed the sun deck. Mackinac is beautiful and a fun place to visit! The Island House was a quaint, affordable and pleasant place to stay. We would love to do it all over again! Read more
Room very small no amenities not even an iron. Staff not knowledgable no concierge. When shower turned on in other room it woke me from a sound sleep sounded like a freight train. No wi fi in room. Room not well cleaned between day one and two.
"Island House great location"
Our recent stay at The Island House was very pleasant. Location was very convenient and we thoroughly enjoyed the charm of our room, the front porch, and well maintained grounds. Couldn't have been better.
"Island House- Mackinac Island"
This place needs a complete re-do-both service and facilities. It simply is NOT COMPETITIVE. 2. Reservation clerk couldn't find us- they misspelled our name- took 1/2 hr for check in, 90 min for luggage to arrive from dock. 1. Toilet tank water kept running.Maint. had no clue how to fix. I found the chain draped between flapper and seal. He didn't. 2 […] Refrig not working- finally got a replacement. 3. 30% of window shutter louvers broken or missing. Had to drape towels for privacy. Window shade only came down half way. 4. Wallpaper peeling on every wall. 5.Wash counter light was 25 watt or so "Needed a flashlight" to see. 6. Every corner in the bathroom had "gunk"- where apparently the cleaning folks don't bother to scrub. Don't waste your money on this place. Read more
"Over priced for what you get"
It is an old hotel, but clean and attractive. The room was small and the furnishings were below average, particularly for the price. Would have had a much nicer room for $150/night less in Mackinaw City and still been able to spend just as much time as we would have liked on Mackinac Island.
"Island House Hotel - not so good"
As our 1st time staying on Mackinac Island, we were disappointed. The shower was broke upon arrival. Although informed at 9am, maintenance didn't come until 6:30pm when I was trying to take a quick nap before dinner (since I wasn't able to shower). No nap but many in/out visits of the maintenance person who eventually gave up. The manager did not empathize […] with our concerns & only offered the room next door to move to. Since it was 8pm & we were checking out at 11am, that did not seem an appropriate resolution - packing up & moving a family of 4. I went w/o the shower instead. The food was quite good except all the waiters were from the Caribbean which was weird. They also hovered closely & listened in on our conversations - again weird. The room was 1/2 the size of our friends who were on the 3rd floor. We paid the same price. Way too cramped for a family of 4 which they knew of when we made the reservation. Overall, a huge disappointment!!! Read more
"Island House Hotel- Old Fashioned Charm...But.."
This property is very quaint, built in the mid 1800's, well kept and great location. One of the few that had air conditioning units. Our room was VERY small but cleanish. The floor was out of level buy 3.7 degrees, ( i used a level app on my phone). The slant was very disturbing at first, but we laughed about it anyway. The carpet and the bathroom […] door threshold were about 2" apart... the carpet really need to be replaced, but the rest of the hotel was very nice. On the Harbor, easy walk to everywhere. We probably should have requested another room, but the property was sold out so we didn't bother. We had a wonderful relaxing weekend just the same. Front lawn fireplace was a hit in the evenings with families making smore's (they sold "kits" at the desk). Sweeping front porch was a tranquil respite with rockers and tables etc. All in all, it was a comfortable place, welcoming, and charming. Just remember it is about 160 years old and enjoy. Read more
"worst bed ever!"
This hotel is located in a prime spot, just minutes from walking to the main attractions yet still quiet. It's clean and kept well but showing it's age. Breakfast was fantastic but that's about the only thing that stood out. What's more is that I had a backache (still do three days later!) from sleeping on the bed. We even requested a new room the second […] night and still no good. My husband and I have travelled to over thirty countries and are well-versed in hotels but this was the WORST bed I've slept on in my life. Therefore you could not pay me to return. Read more
"Great place to stay"
My husband and I had a wonderful stay here. We would definetly recommend this hotel to anyone headed to Mackinaw. The breakfast was delicious, the room was clean and the hotel was quiet. Andrew, an employee who worked the front desk, was especially helpful. He even held our bags for us upon checking out so that we could bike the island one last time […] before catchign the ferry. A wonderful hotel with a lot of history. Read more
"Island House Hotel"
We were pleased with the hotel because it met our needs. The price helped us to be able to afford to stay overnight without spending way over budget. The morning breakfast was very good and should not be passed. The staff was polite and accommodating.

"The Island House Hotel - great for families"
We stayed here with our three kids. It was a neat old hotel with all the modern amenities. The breakfast was great and the kids loved the nightly s'mores. It was centrally located to all the shops and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again.
"Mackinaw Island at its best!"
We were pleasantly surprised by our accommodations! I booked a regular room with 2 doubles and received a suite with 2 queen beds and a fantastic view of the harbor from the top floor, Thanks hotels.com!
Could not get Wi Fi in room regularly. When complained no body could attend and said my Laptop has problem though I was getting it of and on. Fresh / young reception people needs to be trained for Hotel / service Industry. I was promised lake view room but they could not provide me and said it can be give only if I pay more money then what I paid.

"Island House Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI"
We were a bit disappointed with our room--small, cramped, at the back of the hotel. It is an old hotel, and that's okay, but the room barely had room to move around. The carpet was frayed where it met the tile. The front desk people were not very professional--young people too busy to stay at their post, sometimes. The dining room is just fine and the […] service there is fine. Read more
"Better Value than The Grand!"
We loved this hotel. It was a wonderful location and a beautiful historical building. Our room was lovely, clean and cool...no a/c in The Grand!! The 1852 Dining Room was a wonderful experience. Staff was courteous and helpful. We will definitely stay there again.
"Island House Hotel"
WE thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the porches in the evenings watching the people go by, the ferries come in, and the sunset. Soo relaxing. Just what we needed after a day exploring the island!
