Windsor Palace Hotel - Rio de Janeiro

A pleasant hotel located a short walk to the Copacabana beach. The small roof top pool and bar were perfect for late evening relaxing and enjoying the surrounding views. The bed was ok, I slept well as this was my layover hotel after a week of traveling.

Excellent Hotel with a very helpful staff. Good restaurants are nearby and neighboring Ipanema and Leblon offer more options for wining and dining. I loved the rooftop deck and pool. Selmo makes the best Caipirinhas in all of Rio!

The wifi in my room only worked at the entrance of the room, a good 7 paces from the bed and work desk. I called reception up and they had me look at a different room on a different floor. The room smelled of smoke and I couldn't move there. So I ended up sitting on the floor by the door, working. The hotel looks a little old but the room is ok and clean. The rooftop bar and swimmingpool are awesome with very nice views of the Copacabana. The gym is much but very high quality equipment. Overall impression, the hotel is in need of maintenance and upgrades. The room was tiny with three single beds (triple occupancy), with no space to put our luggage. Beds and linens were old and thin, not the fluffy comforters that I prefer. Restroom was a nice size, just in need of upgrades. The bellman were great. Other staff were ok, but not as customer […] service oriented like other hotels. When we asked for great restaurants in the area, they said everything was good. Housekeeping was not so good, the room never felt too clean. Breakfast buffet spread wasn't large, but it was good enough. Location was convenient, but Copacabana seemed a bit run down. We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights during our vacation in Rio de Janerio. The hotel is one block from the beaches and there are many restaurants in this area. When we checked in, they gave us a room on the 17th floor and we had a beautiful view of the ocean from our room. I am not sure we would have enjoyed our stay as much if they had given us a […] room in the lower floor because the view of the ocean would have been totally blocked by other buildings in front of the hotel. We found it because it's near to the beach (1 block away), to the metro station (4 blocks away), to the commerce (1 block) and also near to very good restaurants (Siqueira grill, Manoel & Juaquim, Fenza Pizzeria, etc). It is not luxury but correct and with good service, good breakfast and good price. I recommend it.

I enjoyed my stay in Rio de Janeiro. However, I had some minor complaints about the hotel. The hotel had a strict policy against bringing guests to the room (i.e. friend was flighing back to U.S. and he left his bags in my room for a little while until flight departed and they gave some fuss), did not provide iron (had to pay to have clothing pressed), […] and updates needed in lower level rooms (I stayed on 9th floor). It appeared that there were updates made to the hotel, but only to top levels (the ones with an ocean view). Some positive things about the hotel were the service, breakfast, and location. I would probably stay there again but request an upper level, iron, and a little more leniency. Read more

We loved the Windsor Palace hotel in Rio. The staff were so helpful, and the hotel itself was really comfortable and close to Copacabana Beach and shopping/dining. One caution: make cab drivers aware that you are staying at the Windsor PALACE, because the Windsor chain has a bunch of hotel in Rio. This hotel fit it's price compared with other hotels I looked at / stayed in in Rio. It was perfectly fine - clean, simple, safe, with decent service. Nothing fancy. Then again, I was paying half the price of the Windsor Atlantica, where I had stayed previously as part of the business aspect of my stay. Compared to the Atlantica the Palace is a hole […] in the wall, but for half the price it's still only a block away from the beach and has the basic necessities for a good stay. It was an average experience with some highlights. The breakfast buffet have a very good quality and a very good presentation. The hotel personnel were very friendly and helpful. Considering Copacabana is on a very good location and somehow isolated from the noise.

We stayed at the Windsor Palace Sept.20 2011 for 2 nights, the hotel is a short walk to Atlantica Ave. We booked a room with a balcony, since my husband smokes and likes to do it outside , there's really no view from the balcony except the buildings in front, and a small opening in between that you get a glimpse of the ocean, we stayed on the 14th. […] floor so there was hardly any noise from the street, the room was not fancy, but is was a pretty good size, nice bathroom with all the amenities, a plasma tv, but no americans channels, breakfast was great, including hot entrees, fruits, cereal etc..!! The staff was very, very friendly, there many places to eat around "not expensive" We booked a full day tour at the hotel it took us to all the places we wanted to see. On our last day our flight didn't leave until 8:PM so they gave us a additional hour to check out until 1:PM, and they stored our luggage. If we return to Rio I will stay at this hotel again.. Our room was on the small side, but it did the job. The front desk was very helpful, and thier English was good. It's a great location to Copacabana Beach. We stayed at this hotel in August 2011 for 5 days, before moving on to Iguazu and Sao Paulo. The staff here was amazing. Thank you to Gabriela, Wilson, Hugo, Flavio, and Daniela. Very informative on Rio's attractions and all spoke excellent English. They offered great tours for excellent prices and arranged transfers to the airport hassle-free. Nearby are great restaurants, banks, and major avenues for shopping. One small drawback is that the room was small. We had little walking space around the bed and nowhere to put our luggage. I booked this hotel based on the photos on your site Hotels.com on wich were beautiful ohotos of the view from rooms and from the top floor where the pool and the bar are . Ok , but , no problem I thought at the time , lets go on the top floor , enjoy a nice drink together with the scenery . When I got up , the following sign was hanging on the doors which should have led me to the balcony : " The pool flor closed due to maintenance" So , Copa view from the photos - no sir , not this time !!! What i would like to suggest - I booked this hotel just because of its location and the promise of a great view . If the hotels are going through some major maintenance procedure there should be at least some note about it , of photos which are presenting something that this hotel can not give should be temporarely removed from your site !! The rooms, though not luxurious, are well-appointed and have nice balconies. The rooftop pool and bar offer spectacular views of Copacabana. It's basically a 2 star "comfort inn" level hotel. The rooms are old and smell that way. It's obvious they tried to update some things (a 20" LCD TV mounted on the wall) but you still can't escape that fact the place just needs to be gutted.

I would recommend getting one of the less expensive rooms as the suites and executive superior are a little overpriced. Being able to see the beach is nice.. but its only a block away. It is not a luxury hotel, but it was very clean and comfortable. They answered our numerous questions, suggested places to hear live music, made all sorts of local calls for us confirming reservations and were generally […] just plain nice. No matter what time of day, the people at the front desk had no trouble speaking English, translating Portuguese for us and best of all KEPT US SAFE. They were quick to point out were not to go and how to safely get a cab back to the hotel and what the reasonable fare should be.
