"tidiness and amenities are poor"
the place is located in a good location. The staff were friendly, however the amenities are not in very good condition. The place was relatively clean, but one thing that stand out was that the bed and pillows were mouldy. The spare bed had a larger mattress than it could handle and was hard to sleep there.Genuine Expedia guest review
"DON'T DO IT!!!"
I COME FROM A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY AND THAT'S WHAT THIS WAS. ALL THE PICTURES POSTED ON THEIR WEBSITE ARE ABSOLUTELY FALSE. DIRTY SHEETS DIRTY OLD BEACH TOWELS FOR THE BATHROOM AND MOLDED PILLOWS. NO A/C DOGS LAYING AROUND THE POOL DOG FECES AROUND THE POOL THAT WAS NEVER CLEANED UP. NEVER ONCE SEEN A CLEANING LADY OR A CREW. DRIVING UP TO THE ACTUAL […] HOTEL IS A NON PAVED POT HOLE ROAD WHICH YOU WILL NEED A 4X4 TO GET UP AND DOWN IT. JUST A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE OVERALL. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great views and relaxing jungle sounds!"
I would've stayed there for a month! I loved the surroundings and waking up to the sound of the ocean is just great! it feels safe and you can always see police men and women around. It was a very nice experience I would love going back soon with friends and family.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not as advertised- Needs renovation"
At one time this might have been a nice place to stay, but now it is run down. The swimming pool was not swimmable, there was a sewage smell in the bathroom that seemed to be drafting up from below. The was no kitchenette, just a little electric burner, no pot to cook in or utensils. The tiny fridge was very loud, which mixed with all the noise from […] the barking dog. The ceiling fan was not very powerful and since the sliding glass doors had no screens, we had to keep the doors closed at night and it got very hot in the room. The hotel safe was not attached to the wall... ended up using our own locks on suitcases to keep our stuff safe. The bed only consisted of a sheet, which ended up being fine because it was so hot and stuffy in the room. The bed had a thin foam mattress, not very confortable. The room was cleaned daily and it was a walk up the hill (but that was expected) and centrally located. On the last day the cleaning lady wanted to clean our room while we were there, so we felt very rushed even though we were not past the check out time, and I ended up leaving clothing behind. It seems like more families were living there than overnight guests. Parts of the hotel were under construction that looked like it had stopped years ago. It was not worth the price we paid. Response by Hotel Mirador de Samara I WANT TO INFORM ALL CLIENTS THAT WERE NOT SATISFIED WITH THEIR STAY IN MY HOTEL, LIKE JESSICA THAT DURING THIS TIME WE WERE REMODELING THE BUILDING WERE THE SKYROOMS ARE SITUATED. AFTER WE HAD FINISHED THIS WORK WE STARTED THE SAME WORK IN THE ADJOING BIULDING WERE YOU CAN FIND THE APARTMENTS. AFTER WE HAD FINISHED THIS WORK WE STARTED THE SAME FACE LIFT IN THE ADJOING BIULDING WERE YOU CAN FIND THE APARTMENTS. UNFORTUNATELY I WAS NOT ABLE TO CLOSE THE HOTEL DURING THIS TIME OF REMODELING, BECAUSE I HAD TO RESPECT SOME BOOKINGS THAT WERE MADE A LONG TIME IN ADVANCE WANT TO SAY SORRY TO ALL CLIENTS WHO HAD TO UNDERGO SOME INCONVIENIENCES THAT WERE CAUSED BY GIVING THE HOTEL A BETTER SHAPE. ALSO WOULD I LIKE TO INVITE THESE CLIENTS - IN CASE THEY HAPPEN TO RETURN TO SAMARA- TO STAY 2 OR 3 NIGHTS FREE IN THE HOTEL., SO THEY HAVE A CHANCE TO SEE THAT WE HAVE TURNED THE HOTEL INTO ONE OF THE FINENEST LODGING
"Could Benefit from a Facelift"
This is mainly for longer tern stays. These are self-serve apartments with amazing views. The equipment and furnishings are more functional than fashionable. The small pool is lovely. The steep steps to the rooms make for an arduous hike in the mid-day sun. The location is convenient to the beach and shops (5-10 min walk). The foam pads/mattresses on […] the beds were thin. The fan was not powerful enough to cool the bedroom making it hard to sleep given the heat and many mosquitos. The owner is friendly and can extend your stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fine stay, but not at all as listed"
Although I enjoyed sitting on the lovely balcony, our Sky room amenities were not as described. We did have a safe, fridge, and TV. If there was a private kitchen with coffee maker and microwave, we were not shown it. Staff was pleasant, but not particularly forthcoming with information. The room wifi required a password, which the office was strangely […] unable to provide. We were encouraged to use the Wifi way down the steps near the office did not require a password. The view was lovely and the place seemed clean, if a bit worn. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Views above a funky town"
On a hill above town with breezy, large, rooms, with lovely views. Convenient to services and the beach. Very friendly, helpful owners. Safe. Weak wifi on the second and 3rd floor rooms.Genuine Expedia guest review
Lots of bang for the buck. Great View. Lots of room. The stairs on the way back up from town is not for the faint of heart.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"GREAT VIEW OF SAMARA BEACH"
Spectacular view of Samara Beach. The "apartment" Was a one bedroom with a small kitchen in which stove did not work! Only one bathroom in bedroom and was in need of a good cleaning and renovation. The balcony was quite large and had a spectacular view which was the best feature of the place.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"In need of a facelift"
On arrival we had to ask for the room to be cleaned from top to bottom as floors, surfaces and insect window grilles were all very dusty .- which was carried out. All furnishings are old, tatty and basic. Patio furniture was laughable with white sheets tied over very worn cushions. Attitude of manager initially was quite unconcerned. The photos shown […] on the hotel's website are inaccurate e.g. the bar / terrace is closed off, and room furnishings are not as shown. The hotel is in a good position with potential, but needs attention and investment to address some of the basic problems described above. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"best ocean view in town"
Hotel Mirador's location is hard to beat, 2 short blocks from the beach, restaurants, etc. with a fantastic ocean view from your balcony. It is a short climb to get there, so you must be mobile, but it's definitely worth the effort and is good exercise. The owner was very friendly and accomodating.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good View - HOTEL PICS NOT REAL - Need of Upgrade!"
If you like nature and an ocean view, which is partially obstructed by trees and bulidings then this is the place for you. We booked a "Sky Room", but ended up with an apartment. Not sure how that happened but no explanation was given for this. There is no a/c in any of the rooms so be parepared to sweat. There are fans in each room, but they only spin […] at very slow pace and if you are not directly under it then you don't feel any relief. From our wrap around terrace we could see the ocean. The view was partially obstructed by trees. The walk up and down from the rooms is very steep which always left you out of breath when you reached the top. There are also a lot of dogs laying around which are cute during the day, but at night they start barking when you try to walk by them to get to your room. There were many bugs and we played kill the bug each night...was not fun. I guess the reason for this was because the doors for the units don't go all the way to the floor. The towels provided were very old and shaby. Everytime you used them your body would be covered in white pieces of fluff. The shower scene was not the greatest as well. It was a stand up shower which had a lot soap/dirty scum everywhere. Even after the maid cleaned the room. The pictures provided on expedia are misleading. These are plans for rooms which don't exist. Please only pay close attention when looking at hotel pictures. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Hotel Mirador de Samara The photos showen in expedia are not misleading, as mentioned in the comment. How can someone tell when he was just lodging in 1 apartment and does not know what the others and the Skyrooms look like. The Skyrooms are different from the apartments and also some apartments differ from each other. So the photos are real. Customers are invited to read the comments in tripadviser where many guest photos show similar motivs then shown in expedia
"MUY BUENA UBICACION"
ME PARECE MUY FUNCIONAL LA UBICACIÓN, PUES SE ENCUENTRA UN POCO ALEJADO DEL CENTRO DE LA COMUNIDAD, LO CUAL HACE QUE SEA MUY TRANQUILO ADEMAS EN LA PARTE DE ATRÁS HAY BOSQUE LO CUAL AYUDA A QUE SEA MAS FRESCO.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wish I had stayed elsewhere"
08/26/14 jaxee4 Spruce Grove, Canada
The location was great and you can tell that once upon a time this place was in it's glory but it is getting run down and the girl who was acting as reception service was very poor and was never upfront on timing of things and literally we had to knock on her door 3 times and she ignored our note left on her door to get our laundry back which was soaking wet when she left it outside our room just before we left). Great pool though and somehow it seemed clean enough though we never saw anyone clean it and junk was left around it that never got picked up in the 4 days we were there (broken pool cleaning tools were at pools edge but they never were moved or used). IF you stay do not stay on first floor bugs galore. First night giant millipedes were everywhere as they can fit from cracks under door on top of the usual bug on floor suspects… every night the ants got worse and worse and I am pretty sure some ants have a nest going under that room or something. By the last day our ankles and feet were attacked when we would just leave our door and obviously were in their nest so we got the brunt of it and it hurt.. kids got attacked too. Saw some howlers which was fun - only had housekeeping come once then never saw any sign of her again. Poor wifi - worked first two days from edge of our balcony outside only… no wifi last 2 days.
"Great spot for a few days in Samara"

Two of us stayed in an apartment for three nights and had a very welcoming and comfortable stay. The owner is very friendly (he even drove us and our luggage to our front door) and was accommodating to any questions that we had. The apartment was a great size with plenty of space and more than adequately appointed. Whilst the decor is not modern, it is very Costa Rican and more than enough to make for a comfortable stay. The lack of air-con is no issue - the ceiling fans are very effective and there is plenty of fresh air coming through the apartment. The highlight is the view from the apartment - one of the finest in Samara. The hotel is well placed for walking down to the beach and Samara town centre - no more than 5 mins by foot. If you are reading Lonely Planet, and wondering where to stay, then this would be one of the best choices - the others options listed in LP did not look to be as good.
"Great for independent travelers"

I stayed at the Mirador last summer with my boyfriend. The apartments were exactly what we were looking for, enabling us to cook instead of going out to eat. We were there in low season, so it wasn't crowded, but Max and his wife and daughter were always around which made it feel very safe - we knew if we needed anything we could contact them, they lived right on the property. The view is beautiful, and it was a great place to stay to relax, because you could just stay on the deck of the apartment and not feel like you were missing out on your vacation because of the beautiful views of the ocean and jungle, almost every day we saw howler monkeys jumping from the trees, it was amazing! Even though there was no A/C, it was pretty breezy and we were never too uncomfortable (even though we were there in July.) Would highly recommend to anyone looking for more of a secluded/private vacation than staying at a resort.

"The Best View in Samara!!"
02/07/14 Fernando M Dallas, Texas
Myself and about 5 other friends stayed at the Mirador from Jan 29th to Feb 4th. I gotta say overall what stood out for me was the amazing view, the sun sets where spectacular. Another particular characteristic I really liked was that they where pet friendly, I've been travelling to Costa Rica for several years now and this is a first for me. In the next trip I've got planned to Samara I'll be able to included my white shepherd. Overall 5/5 in my experience: Location: like I mentioned before this is where the hotel stands out. Sleep Quality: slept like a baby every single night. Rooms: the rooms we stayed in where nice, nothing I haven't seen before but they where deft up to my standers. Service: the staff was friendly, I even had a nice chat with Max the owner of the place who told me about some really nice nearby beaches. Value: because of my overall experience I'd say 5/5 on value. Cleanliness: again 5/5 to my standers you are at Guanacaste after all and its dry season right now. This was the first time I stayed at the Mirador and I'll deft come back this year.

We stayed here over the Christmas period and New Year. The location of the hotel is ideal for local amenities and the beach which is only a five minute walk away. Our room had a fantastic view of the bay and was very spacious. The staff were very friendly and Max, the proprietor, made us feel very welcome. One thing that would be beneficial to the rooms would be air conditioning although there were fans. We enjoyed using the quiet swimming pool. The highlight of our stay at the Mirador was being able to walk down and spend New Year's Eve on the beach, an incredible atmosphere with magical firework displays.
"More like hotel " Mira-Poor""
12/27/13 Henry H Indiana
My family and I went to Hotel Mirador de Samara during New Years. If you visit Hotel Mirador it will be the worst experience you'll have in Costa Rica! The grounds were concrete with a thick coat of dust, the sheets were tattered and were a mouse grey color with a musty scent. It had a great location, just blocks away from the beach but had endless swarms of Mosquitos. The view was also great but had two telephone poles in the way. Our shower wouldn't run and the floor was caved in under the faucet. The fridge had rotten food left in it from the most recent stay. We had to keep our kids off of the deck because it was a straight drop to the streets. The white pillars on the deck were brown from the thousands of of ants crawling up and down. The pool was about four feet deep, but it was so dirty we couldn't see the bottom. The last thing is the security is terrible! Some rooms don't even have a single lock on their door! We fled Hotel Mirador right away and decided to stay at "Leyanda" the clean, good quality hotel. I strongly recommend NOT staying at Hotel Mirador de Samara.
"Pet friendly, what else can I say"
06/16/13 Marcelu83 San Jose
We were planning a quick getaway for last New Year´s Eve but we had the problem of not having anyone to take care of our 2 dogs. We remembered then that my brother in law has stayed at this hotel with his Golden Retriever and family and right ahead we reserved our spot. I must say the hotel is nice: it has a nice view to the beach and is close enough to downtown Samara without being in the very center of town, so you are a walking distance to the beach and groceries, without having all the noise right at your window. There are no special accomodation for the pets rather than being with you on the same room, but the property is big and there is place for them to make the physical needs. Besides Max, the owner is kind and does not bother customer for dog related issues :) We paid about $150 for 2 nights in a room, which considering it was New Year´s Eve, was not expensive at all.
"I Love this quaint spot and Max!!!"
06/07/13 A-Train612 Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States
My wife and I began our honeymoon in Sámara and were blown away by the view at this hotel. Rustic, and literally no a/c, but the proprietor, Max, was awesome and the view was stunning. Minutes walk from the beaches/town/shops/etc. Super low-key, unfortunately being a northerner (Minnesota) I needed a/c, but if you want adventure, this is the place to go. Google map it before u leave, because it is extremely east to miss!
"What a view!"
We stayed at the Mirador de Samara for one week and enjoyed it. Apartment is great with a million dollar view of the bay from our very spacious deck. No mosquitos and a pleasure to sit outside in the evening. Pool area was a bit disappointing with not much shade but, hey, there is 5kms of beautiful sandy beach only five minutes away. Yes, the grounds are dry but it is the "dry" season and Costa Ricans are into conserving water. The climb up to our apartment was considerable but we are two seniors (75 & 69) and it gets easier every day. Lighting is not great on the steps but we always carry a flashlight for walking at night. Max, the owner, lives on the premises and takes pride in his property. He was always pleasant and helpful. Don't be afraid to stay here. Location is the best and the deck always has a cool breeze.
