Overall, we had a good time and the resort is a nice place. A couple things that dampened things a little were that I had reserved 3 rooms through Hotels dot com and the resort took them as 3 different reservations. Another thing is that all extras are charged as extras. If you want to use the lock box, or internet, these are costs. Most things you can pay with a credit card, but not all things. NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!! I am not sure how many other places do this, but this resort charges an 'international rate' 3x higher than what it charges resident Panamanians. The hotel had amazing amenities. I would say that greatly, greatly outweighs the door quality or food. The rooms are old fashion- imagine you still need a physical key vs. a card to get in. We stayed at the Royal Decameron for 5 nights. I found our room to be pretty comfortable and didn't have any issues with noise. Our room was quiet and conveniently located in building 16, which I thought was a good location, close to Lobby 1 which has a nice bar, and also reasonably close to the beach activities desk where you can request sailboats […] and paddleboats and such. There were some issues with maintenance (our towel bar was broken, the shower curtain also fell down.) One day our room didn't get cleaned at all, and I had to request water three times because apparently if you request water you need to be there to receive it, they won't just leave it in your room for you. The hotel nickel and dimes you, charging for wi-fi, safe rental, etc. The food is, for the most part, very institutional quality and much of it was horribly oversalted. Pastas were consistently cooked to mush and meat was overcooked to be dry and stringy. The best things to eat were usually rice and beans, and the roasted chicken at the lunch buffets. The made-to-order scrambles and tamales at breakfast were also decent. We didn't find the food at the a-la-carte restaurants to be any better. The Thai was definitely the worst, I had the fish there and it was so salty that I could barely eat it, and very overcooked. The best a-la-carte was at the Italian restaurant, we liked both the canneloni and the lasagna there. The wine is from a box and horrible. Read more

For a familiar experience if they want to rest on the beach and the differents pools GREAT but if you are thinking in a very different and wonderfoul all included with a great dinner and bar is not an amazing experience like a Playa del Carmen or Punta Cana is OK but the best.

We have visited numerous countries that offered the all inclusive packages. We had one bad occurrence and unfortunately the visit for four days to the Royal DeCameron is our second bad experience. We paid a hefty price and as such we were expecting a “big bang” but it turn out to be just a “firecracker”. Facilities are in a bad need of refurbish. Meals, well let’s say that I had better meals when I was serving under field conditions in the military Armed Forces. Do not try the buffet style is a guaranteed laxative, do make reservations for the Café Mediterranea, the only meal that we were able to enjoy before departing the next day. This is the only tropical hotel that did not have a wide variety of tropical fruits. Watermelon, sour pineapple and out of season honey dues were the main selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bottom line, food was bland and over cook. The night show was great if you managed to have the “visiting locals” to have a seat on front of you. Overall I would not recommend it to anyone. Read more

We didn't pay very much and got what we paid for. The room was somewhat spartan. The food was plentiful but bland. The specialty restaurants were a step above the standard buffet. If you're used to fine sugar sand white beaches, you'll be disappointed as the sand is course brown and black. We won't be going back, but don't regret our choice.

Check-In A disaster! The primary problem is one of communication. If you don't understand Spanish, it will cause difficulty! In our case they couldn't find our reservation, the Security people were clueless, and the people at Reception not much better. The other big problem arises from the fact that they allow late check-out (1 P.M.), so the earliest […] check-in is at 3 P.M. (without exception!). So you have hundreds of people queued up, all waiting for 3 P.M. to arrive! We finally were assigned a room at 5 P.M. The Room At first we were put off because our room was in the Villas, which is quite far from the rest of the complex. However, it was a quiet area, and we learned how to beat the system (more later). Our second communication problem was with the A/C. We couldn't make it work. We started calling right after we checked in, and were promised several times that the "technicians" would arrive shortly. The "techs" (three non-English speaking teens) finally arrived about 1 P.M. the next day and fixed the problem. The third communication problem concerned having the room cleaned. After three calls, they finally showed up. The room itself was pretty nice, the beds were comfortable, and again it was quiet. Tennis Our primary activity was tennis. There were only two painted-over cement courts, but they were adequate for our use. If there had been a lot of tennis players, it would have been difficult to play. The "lights" for night play were pathetic, barely being bright enough to attract insects. Just get to the courts early in the morning and you'll be fine. There is no reason to use the reservation system, just show up early. Other Activities They don't push the other act ivies! At most all-inclusives there are a plethora of things to do. At the Decameron there weren't that many, but it didn't seem to bother the guests, us included. We just recently spent 7 days at Decameron in Panama and it was fantastic. My parents met us from Canada as well as another couple, we drove from Costa Rica. Once we got there the hotel staff were always smiling, helpful and very accommodating ( we needed to switch rooms as my mother cannot walk up and down stairs). The hotel is built on an incline […] so many of the rooms have stairs or inclined walkways to access the beach and vice versa. This is our 3rd time to go to DeCameron. As expected everything is superb except that it is hard to communicate with the receptionists. Most of them do not speak English and it takes longer to get what you want to get done. It is very safe place to go to...every building has a security guard- front and back of each building. Food and drinks are excellent. […] The pools are always clean. We always enjoy going to this resort. The staff are courteous, especially in the buffet area. I definitely will recommend this place and will go back next year. The only hard part is that they do not have a shuttle to go back and forth to the airport. on arrival, room smelled like when your basement is flooded and the carpet is soaked in rain water.
