It's impressive in the lobby but that's where it ends. The bar area and service although good are definitely overshadowed by the exhorbitant prices - €29.50 for a rum/tonic x 2! Thats $40! Outrageous as is the buffet breakfast at €30 each. Room service is more acceptable if your order is right! The housekeeping attention to detail is shocking too. Rooms […] appear comfortable until there are 2 of you trying to use the bathroom and you realise its tiny and not very well laid out. The staff were very helpful, especially at reception and the main guy at the swimming pool was outstanding - the Hotel's best employee. We chose the breakfast "2 for 1" deal every day - which was exceptional value. We asked for a quiet room and we only noticed the occasional noise from people leaving nearby clubs late at night/early morning. You have […] to accept that the hotel, whilst set back a little,still faces a busy road. It's also a good 20 min walk into the city centre, although the No 3 bus can be caught just around the corner and provides a regular, efficient service. A late night taxi back from Plaza Espanya only cost 6 euros. We had dinner at the Hotel one evening and whilst the food and service was fine it was relatively expensive. Good location with close access to handy things like ATM machines (down hotel steps by sun terrace & about 25 yds along Avenue Gabriel Roca on the right), No. 3 bus to the station which we used to get the Soller train (left out of hotel at the front & about 25 yds) & red tour bus (stops opposite No.3 […] stop). Hotel breakfast expensive but we took up the MAS club membership which gave us 2 for 1 deals on breakfast & some other meals. Great location and excellent air conditioning are the two real pluses that spring to mind; hideously expensive bar and poor lighting in the en-suite bathroom also should be pointed out, as well as the "pointless" television unless you speak Spanish....... the hotel is a real maze of corridors, but once you get the hang of it it's a beautiful #though […] in need of a lick of paint here and there# property. The "back door" entrance means you can be in the local bars in minutes, though as you'd probably expect being right on the Marina the restaurants and bars do see you coming - so check prices before you order! My single room, which was two single beds pushed together was fine, however; being a restless sleeper and with the matresses sliding around, I did on more than one occasion almost fall down the gap between the two! Felt that for the price of the room complimentary mineral water would have been a nice touch rather than try to sting you 3.50 from the mini-bar; instead on the first night #of two# I was given two complementary apples. This hotel has many plus points and a couple of disappointing aspects that I will mention below. The hotel's exterior is well maintained with a partial wall mounted fountain and a clean and crisp reception area. The reception staff are attentive and check-in formalities were completed with ease and efficiency. The room itself was well appointed and […] had all the amenities one would expect of a 5* hotel room. The bathrooms looked like they had been recently grouted so had no stains or marks. However, the Deluxe Partial Sea View rooms do look over Tito's nightclub which is a dark stained and slightly tumbledown building, but this is not the hotel's fault. Breakfast consists of a choice of bread and cold cuts along with various cereals alongside a hot option of beans, eggs etc. There is a live counter at which one can order egg dishes such as pancakes and omlettes. Overall I would give the breakfast a thumbs up. It also continues till 10.30am which is handy if one does not feel like rising at the crack of dawn. The pool area is clean and tidy with a recently laid wood effect flooring which is non-slip and very clean. The salt water pool is refreshing and at a lovely temperature. The attendants are lovely and very helpful. Unfortunately, this hotel does not have what I would call a functioning gymnasium. They have got a treadmill, a sub-standard cross-trainer machine and a very poorly maintained and rusty multi-gym machine. The multi-gym is a joke and is jammed so is particularly useless. The other problem is that the 'gym' is outdoors next to the pool area and so really only useful after the pool has closed for the day. The sauna and indoor pool are both further sources of despair. They are unfortunately housed in a large chamber that is characterless and a little to humid. The sauna is very small and has an oversized heater that render the tiny space useless as the heat rises too quickly. The overall feel of the sauna area is tacky and cheap. Some parts of the hotel, such as the room decoration are looking a bit tired and in need of refurbishment, but this is compensated by the very friendly and welcoming staff. We stayed for 5 nights in September 2010. We had a standard room on the 3rd floor and were extremely surprised as this level of room would normally be executive or above. Lovely big modern and spotless bathroom, very large bed and even a walk in mirror attached to the wardrobes so you could see all sides(this can show things you perhaps don't want to […] see) We had read another reviews which warned of potential noise from a nearby club, we did not experience this buit perhaps that was because we were not on the ground floor. We came in late a couple of nights but can't say we noticed anything over the top considering you are in a large city.Had to pay for wi-fi connection but this was only a few Euros for 12 hours access. All areas were of the hotel were spotless and of a very high standard. Pool area was great with plenty of beds and attendants that brought out beach towels for you and made sure no one "reserved" sun beds.Fabulous view from the outside bar and restaurant area overlooking the Marina and Cathedral which was best viewed in the evening when lit up. Beware though the drinks were a bit pricy. Food was very good but again expensive but just down a few steps from the hotel was all the Marina facing restaurants and cafes. Bus into town was very cheap and stopped right outside the hotel. You can walk into the old town in about 20 mins along the marina front. Also the Airport Bus stops right outside as well (No 1) Underground car parking was very big and free, excellent. Great base to go out and explore with the many lovely mountain villagers only a 30 min drive away. Palma town itself is a delight with fabulous shopping, restaurants and bars. Staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all a great experience. We will use this hotel again and combine it with a few days in one of the mountain villages as well. Can't wait. Read more

Our overwhelming lasting memory of the Gran Melia is the level of service received..Nothing was too much trouble and staff seemed genuinely concerned that we were enjoying ourselves. We've stayed at posher Hotels but the service and attention we received meant that any minor criticisms we had were immediately forgiven! Breakfasts were probably a bit […] over priced as was the evening meal but again the level of service was such that we were happy to accept and pay for the level of service received. the hotel itself is a little bit tired, the pool area could probably do with a facelift and it does take a bit of time getting your bearings when accessing the pool area but these are minor criticisms when you consider the overall experience. Top tip would be to pay the extra for a seaview-the noise from the disco is minimal. Access to Palma is a ten minute walk along the sealine-don't walk the back way-bit grotty! Eating out you must try TAST-very authentic tapas;also tried La Bodega-good atmosphere;the restaurarnts close to the Cathedral should be treated with caution -busy doesn't mean good eating experience. We will be back at the Gran Melia -a four star Hotel with a Six star level of service. Read more
