The hotel is in a good area...cute little park directly in front, some decent restaurants nearby, a fun walking trail down by one of the bodies of water. The hotel itself was OK. Friendly staff. Room very small but clean. Carpets in hallway need a really good scrubbing.

I rarely write reviews, but the Rival was just so outstanding that I felt I had to do it. I spend a lot of time on the road and in some of the world's best hotels. Expectations for the Rival are high, and it measures up. The rooms are well designed and comfortable, including the bed and bath features. The bar is lively and a cool place to have a drink.The hotel is situated on a pleasant square, close enough to the major shopping area of the Sodermalm section of Stockholm, with some pleasant shops nearby. You're also in walking distance to the Old City. Several good restaurants within a 10-15 minute walk. As overpriced as the city is, the Rival gives good value! Easy enough access by the T; the taxi from the Central Station will cost you $20. Probably not for families of more than 3 or for those who don't like to walk. Read more

Great hotel located just south of Gamla Stan - Stockholm's old town. Metro stop ust a 5 minute wlak from the hotel takes you to Gamla Stan in 3 minutes and central Stockholm in 5 minutes. Adjacent to a nice quiet square with grass, trees and a large fountain.

Great Hotel and love this SoFo district. Rooms are modern and very comfortable. It was our favorite Hotel in our travels to Demark,sweden, and Norway. Only downfall is no meal included and eating out is expensive. Rival cafe was good food but like every were it is pricey for US standards.

Hotel Rival was well located in Sodermalm, the "Brooklyn" of Stockholm. Quieter than the bustling business district and the charming and crowded old town, but an easy walk to both. Room was small but clean and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Restaurant is very good. Only small complaint is that the carpet in our room needed replacing.

Spent 5 nights here. Comfortable room, nice restaurant--ate at hotel twice. Convenient to subway stop, but also an easy walk to old town/Gamla Stan, or other restaurants in Gamla Stan and Sodermalm. Air conditioned (found that even though temperatures were low, rooms in Stockholm get stuffy fast due to high humidity). […] Windows of course work most of time for temp control, but good to have AC as an alternative. Breakfast not included in rate. Buffet available, but also a number of bakeries, 7-11, etc within a block of hotel. Hotel has its own bakery as well. Free espresso maker available to guests and free WIFI; free DVD player and movies. Only complaint would be late room cleaning. The location, physical spaces, and staff of the Rival were perfect for my two day visit to Stockholm. The hall decorations were attractive. The room (even though it was one of the smaller ones) on the fourth floor was airy and the bathroom was ample. We loved everything about the Hotel Rival. We loved the staff, the free breakfast on weekends, and the free coffee/ latte/ tea/ cookie bar as well as the free wi-fi. But most of all, we loved its theatre theme and the 100 movies passed out to guests on request. When we went on the Millenium Tour, we discovered that almost every important event connected to the Stieg Larsson series, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo . . . , takes place within blocks of this hotel. We had a deluxe room overlooking the the pleasant square. Didn't have a balcony, but that didn't matter as the massive window opened up for a great view (Room 606). If you are in the lower levels, all you'll have is tree view. Anywhere else is yard view. I would come back here automatically. They were great. We got there early in the morning and they found us a clean room by 10:30am or so. They offered us coffee and when we said we wanted to go out directed us to a nice place. Only negative thing is that they are right next to a park and the park had a loud party one night and a political rally the next. The Hotel Rival provided an excellent base to explore Stockholm. It is two blocks from a Tunnelbana station and is in a quiet area of the city. One can easily walk about 10 minutes to an area with many restaurants and cafes. The staff at the hotel was friendly and helpful. I would certainly go back there again.

We never heard a car, a person, a toilet flush - nothing! - and our room was on the street side with a park across the street. Superb hotel and great location. Room and hotel finished stylishly and to a high standard. Staff very helpful and made you feel welcome. Bar and restaurant both worth a visit. Menu was expensive but the food excellent quality.
