"Our worst night ever in a hotel or motel"
The hotel was okay and we have stayed there before but this time was a nightmare, literally. There was a group (it sounded like a lot of people) that came into the room next to us about 11:00 p.m. having a very wild party (in the room and also in the hallway part of the time) that went on until 5:00 a.m. and the hotel didn't do anything about it when […] we called repeatedly. They were very loud and slamming doors and banging on the walls. At one point we heard someone else, probably from across the hall yell at them but that did not do any good either. After calling the front desk several times, at about 4:00 a.m. the man at the desk finally said he would do something. The noise continued for at least another hour. The next morning when we checked out we mentioned it to the person at the desk and they said they would give us credit or something if we had booked through them but since we booked through hotels.com that was just too bad! Not good. We thought hotels.com should know about this. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to downtown, sunk in mattress"
The location couldn't be better- right on the outside of the cute little downtown area. The hotel itself was nice, the decor is hillarious- everything is made out of sticks, pretty awesome. The only downside was the beds were sunken in in the middle.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice room but stuff doesn't work"
Nice clean comfortable room with woody decor that we liked. We got the mid-grade room with fireplace and fridge which both worked. The bed was comfy. Great location. Gripes include non-functional hot tub/pool "closed for maintenance" but which had obviously been closed for some time. Outer door that didn't lock, allowing anyone to get in. Coffee machine […] in room didn't work and no coffee in lobby at 6am. Room key cards that quit working, requiring a long wait in lobby in line. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Imagine walking into a hotel that definitely expresses class and luxury for an affordable price. The decore of the hotel reminds you of a log cabin that has been broken in with newer style of our recent era. I would highly suggest this hotel to everyone but I would have to ease back so I can at least have a room for the next time I arrive in big be […] ar. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
There isn't much to chose from in Big Bear, and my expectations were not high, but having stayed here before, it doesn't look like much has been done to improve maintain the property since our last stay. Carpets are that much dingier, beds are that much lumpier.Genuine Expedia guest review
"nice room close to the village"
nice room close to the village. not much too it but the hotel is large and has a restaurant and bar. Pool and spa werent running unfortunately. OVerall I would stay here again as the place was cleanGenuine Expedia guest review
"First time there was a GREAT experience!"
This will be the hotel I go to everytime I visit big bear! However I did not like listening to little kids run up and down the halls above my room.Genuine Expedia guest review
We thought the hotel is very nice. When we go back up there we will stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Satisfactory for a large hotel"
This is probably the largest hotel in Big Bear. Location provides great access to village shops, bars and restaurants. The rooms are clean and provide comfortable accommodations. Fiberglass baths/shower with curtain. The staff is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is unappealing so we skipped it. Plenty of parking. Arcade is fun for kids. There […] was a large group of drunken college kids from NY on our floor producing frequent noise associated with drunken stupor. The front desk received several complaints but could not stop the chaos and informed us our last resort was to call the police since only guests can do so, not the hotel. I don't understand this policy. Fortunately, the front desk allowed us to move to another floor which we appreciated. Overall, somewhat fair value. Caveat: large hotels are not our style though. Most people will find the hotel satisfactory I bet. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Early Check in"
After an attempt to go skiing we got rained out around 9 AM with check in time at 330 PM we still went to the hotel and low and behold the staff was pleasant and our room was ready for check in. this was a blessing with two young children with us.Genuine Expedia guest review
Location good but facilities are dated. Overall we had a great time.Genuine Expedia guest review
Comfortable and easy.. I have had back surgery and the beds were most comfortable than any bed I have slept in -in Big Bear.. This hotel was close to my sons lesson& close to good food. There was good coffee at night and in morning in lobby.. no complaints.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A lovely stay!"
The hotel was in a perfect area, shopping is right around the corner and the mountain slopes for snowboarding are about a 5 min drive away. We even ate at the little restaurant and the way back from snowboarding that was very good! Loved it! Can't wait to come back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My husband stayed here because there was a deal on hotels.com. It was just an overnight stay so we can ski/board the next day. The hotel location is great. Right across is a wine tasting room and walking distance to the lake and other restaurants and bars. Very short drive to Snow Summit. The hotel theme is wood which we found interesting/entertained. […] The hotel amenities are basic, the room we were in was basic with a tube tv, fireplace, bed, desk and bathroom. Our a/c wasn't working so we called maintenance and they came rather quickly to fix it. At check-in, the young lady wasn't very welcoming. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great last minute find"
I was pleasantly surprised with this last minute finding. Hotel staff was great and accommodating. Only problem was a broken light bulb that was quickly replaced. Walking distance to nice places to eat and minutes drive to Snow Summit and Bear Mountain. I have no problem recommending this place.Genuine Expedia guest review
Uncomfortable the rating of this place is three star and half but I will say not more than 2 star. The worst was the bedGenuine Expedia guest review
Unfortunately this hotel lived up to the negative reviews. The rooms were uncomfortably warm. The front desk messed up the type of room we requested and did not honor simple requests like sending more towels. The service in the restaurant the first night was friendly but slow. The second night when I stopped in for a glass of wine in the bar the bar […] tender greeted me by snapping at me that they would be closing in half an hour. I ordered my glass to go and it was un drinkable. When I asked for something else he said I'd have to pay for a second and said "Next time be sure you taste first". So I took his advice and asked for a taste of the second glass. He said " Oh- shouldn't be a problem this time - it's a new bottle on this one". Still charged me for that second glass. The great service finale came at check out when the clerk argued with me that I had given an American Express card for incidentals which I don't even have. So next time I'm in Big Bear will go for a condo experience and skip the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"OK room but clean and no issues"
No issues, clean, fresh and ok room but not especially comfortable and it wasn't recently renovated. Wifi worked fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"check it out"
Not great. The jacuzzi was broken. This was very important to me, because i was skiing. When we asked for some compensation, none was offered for the inconvenience. Also the walls are paper thin, and you can hear every thing from the room next door.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice but old"
The best part of the stay was the staff. Hotel staff are really polite and accommodating. The room wasn't bad but they were really small.Genuine Expedia guest review
"worst night sleep ever."
It was SO hot at this hotel in the dead of winter. We tried turning the AC on and no luck, we slept with the sliding glass door all the way open and still only half under the blankets to cool off. The main problem with this heater is that it dried our eyes and throats out so bad it felt like we woke up with a blow dryer in our faces. Our group had 2 […] rooms on separate floors and both had the same experience. We were all tired the whole next day on the slopes. Bummer. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Rooms somewhat unkept"
Missing light bulbs in the room. Pool and sauna closed for renovation without any sort of notice at booking time. Problems with Internet in the room. Rooms are basic. Front desk service OK, but slightly impersonal / stiff. I personally would rank this hotel 2.5 stars, not 3.5 stars. I was expecting more of this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"No jacuzzi ski weekend"
At least 4 times I got locked out of my room. Key didn't work. Doors were not very secure. Jacuzzi was broken on a big ski weekend and this was the reason we picked this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could..... be nice"
Hotel looks great, better than most other hotels in big bear. However, bed had a giant dip in it on one side of the bed. Whomever slept there in the past was a big, BIG person. Mattress should have been replaced. Also, we went to the hotel advertised happy hour (beer, well drinks and wine). I ordered a whiskey sour. Upon receiving the check the bartender […] said that a whiskey sour is a call drink and not part of happy hour. I've bartended for 10 years. The alcohol grade determines level, NOT ingredients. A whiskey sour is simply whiskey and sour mix... I didn't say anything, but he wasn't tipped as well as he would have been. That being said, the "eligible" happy hour drink prices were very reasonable. The hot tub and pool was also under repair. That alone was a MAJOR SELLING POINT for why i booked at that hotel. We were given a 10% off coupon for the restaurant. I'm not sure it was adequate compensation. I would give the hotel one more chance if the price is right. Facilities were nice. I wasn't sure because some of the pictures online of the rooms didn't look so nice but our room was just fine ( except for the bass fish decor on the entertainment cabinet but that was minor). I agree the faucets are old style but everything was clean and comfortable. We only stayed one night. The pool table in the game room was fun but there was no […] chalk. "Another cozy stay at Northwoods Resort"
I left a great review of this property after my last stay and this time it was even better. Only bummer was housekeeping didn't refresh the coffee and I didn't realize it until I went to make some in the morning. Oh well, there was some ready in the lobby.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very outdated room"
I was excited to stay at this hotel but when we opened the door we saw an outdated room, the smallest bathroom, the mattresses were caved in and the room was musty smelling. We just came from a wedding in Arrowhead so we enjoyed the room as much as we could. But, I would never stay there again. Next time we will rent a cabin.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel stay in the mountains."
Nice, big hotel room. The bed was comfortable. TV is old and small-needs to be updated and TV remote did not work well. They need to put info regarding WiFi access in the room as I had to ask the desk.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel for a trip to the snow"
Rooms are decently sized, quick check-in at front desk, friendly staff, we have not tried out the heated pool yet, maybe our next trip. When you need a place to stay for one night at a low rate you cant beat it. Hotel is located near plenty of restaurants and entertainment with in walking distances, just bring comfortable walking shoes.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Noise Level in the Hotel"
There was a large amount of noise that could be heard from inside our room. Kids up stairs running, etc. I also was woken abruptly Sunday morning to the noise of the shower above my room. From the pipes you could hear the running water - it sounded as if the shower was about to fall down through the structure. The noise was very loud and annoying to […] say the least at 7:00am. Best placed lodge in town. Only 5 min. walk to restaraunts, pubs, and shopping and 5-7 min. drive to ski resorts. Unfortunately, the spa was closed for maintenance, which after skiing we so needed. "DO NOT STAY HERE!!"
Our reservation was for two queens, but at check-in they informed us that all they had was a king bed. Needless to say, it was a horrible night with four of us trying to get comfortable. We attempted to shower, but dark brown water came out of the pipes for the first 3 minutes and yellow water was always present in the sink. We will never stay here. "What does it take to get an extra blanket?"
1. Arrived being told I had a handicapped room. Never got a handicapped room. Moved 3 times the first night, and my mobility challenged friend was in pain and worn out. Told we would have free breakfast to make up for it. 2. No free breakfast. Had to have gotten a voucher in advance and walked (!) to the restaurant. Did get a 50 percent discount after […] complaining. 3. Water failure and burst pipe the second night. 4. Had to phone for an extra blanket three times during two to three hours and finally went down to the front desk, where they gave me the blanket finally. 5. Never cleaned the room after the first night. Came back in and the room had not been cleaned at all. Beds not made, towels not replaced. Had to ask for new towels. 6. Hotel staff nevertheless very, very nice and polite and apologetic. Hotel understaffed and overwhelmed. 7. Room décor was very cute, and beds very comfortable, nice shower (except when there was no water). 8. Good hotel for athletic young people and families with children. Not good for senior citizens with mobility problems. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Overall was a great stay! I would recommend it and I will return the next time I go to Big Bear. I used the sauna in the small fitness room. It was relaxing after a day on the slopes. The hotel bar has a fabulous happy hour. The restaurant has great food at great prices. No need to go off property to eat. Comfy beds in spacious rooms. Location is very […] convenient to shopping and ski resorts. The only improvement could be with the front desk staff. Either they were new and being trained or just "too relaxed". "Nice Hotel in Big Bear Lake"
This is a nice, good sized hotel for the Big Bear area. Room decor is typical of the mountain lodge theme which I am not a fan of, however the rooms are fairly big and nicer than many of the hotels/ motels in the area. The hotel is right in the Village area with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. It is also only 2-3 miles from the ski resorts.Genuine Expedia guest review
We actually got a cheaper rate on the room than what is posted as their regular rate. Thank god we did! I would have been upset if we would have paid the regular 350....2 of the lamps in our room didnt work...one was completly broken and the other one was missing the switch to turn it on and off. The window was not insulated and when its 25 degrees […] at night the cold comes through the drapes. The back door entrance was broken so if it shut you couldnt use your key and had to walk all the way around to the front and if you left it cracked with a rock it wasnt safe. The customer service was good. The food at the stillwells was good but the condition the room was in #143 was disapointing. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A Hidden Treasue"
Overall, my stay was ok. Front desk Staff was not that nice and bland. House keeping staff was nice and accommodating, not front desk staff. Hotel was close to everything, and my family and I enjoyed the walking. We stayed at the hotel 3 days. The best part of our visit for our 9 year old boys was the inner tubing at the "Magic Mountain". The best part […] of the trip for my husband and I was eating breakfast at "Nottinghams Tavern". Its a hidden treasure that anyone visiting Big Bear MUST eat at. The food was Delicious, the service Great. Our boys loved their food also. They both loved the pancakes and beacon. I had French Toast. Our experience was so pleasant and pleasing, we were going to stay an extra day in Big Bear to eat dinner there. Yes, the food and service was just that good! However, the boys were ready to head home. 5 must go places, The Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Sequoia, Hearst Castle and "Nottinghams Tavern' in Big Bear ! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Definitely better than other options in Big Bear"
The hotel is dated but so are all of the hotels and cabins in Big Bear. I thought it was overall acceptable, relatively speaking, they really took the log cabin theme all the way, which I can appreciate. Everything worked fine in my room, I did get the fridge as requested (but it did require a special request - also, the fridge was placed on top of […] the table in my room so it did take away from being able to use that table, but that didn't bother me). The location can't be beat if you want to be in/close to the village, and you have use of the trolley for $5 unlimited for the whole weekend. The slopes are less than 5 minutes away by car. There is free wi-fi & free parking When i booked my room online though, it implied that I would have a fireplace in the room, which my room did not and that was disappointing. Also, "courtyard" view is a view of the parking lot/main entrance/pool - not a very nice view and not worth the upgrade. The walls are very thin too. I was woken up at 7am by the upstairs neighbors getting ready, which took them 1.5 hours, so much for me sleeping in on my vacation... Also, couple times I walked down the hallway, there were (I am guessing) kids running in the upstairs' hallways which was a little startling and super loud. The staff was good, no comments there, they did their job and were courteous. The resort does not allow pets, also no smoking, not even on your balcony. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice hotel. Nice location. Can walk to village shops and restaurants. Quick drive to Snow Summit or Bear Mountain. Would stay here again. The staff could have been a little more friendly and they won't let you check-in before 3 or 4.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I will just mention that the nightclerk refused to call a cab for my friends at 1AM on Saturday which is not only discourteous but very dangerous. The staff tends to be quite miserable and no one smiles. The spa was broken, there was some sort of gas leak issue on one of the floors and room service leftovers tend to litter floors for 12 hour stretches. The […] place has seen better days but there is no reason why management shouldn't try harder. Oh and be very careful when booking a room since the place refuse to cancel my friend's reservation when he clicked the wrong button while booking online. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Quite Relaxing - Once"
As Robert Heinlein wrote in, “The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress”, our stay was a “Fun Once”. On the plus side, the room was very clean in all respects and had all the amenities such as a frig and gas fireplace. The water was very hot right when we needed it which was also nice. There was ample parking and it was very close to the front door. However, there […] were some irritants that didn’t set well with us. We arrived around noon for a 4pm check-in. (Check out time is 11 so this was the “slack” time between check-in and check-out.) The two people at the front desk stated that check-in started at 4, which was understandable. When we came back at 4 there was only one person working the desk. After we got checked in we tried to get into the room but the door card keys weren’t working. “We’ve been having this problem all day”, we were told. The next day both our keys stopped working again and we had to have them reset. The room was pretty cold when we got there. We turned on the heater but the air never warmed up. We decided to just use the gas fireplace to heat the room, which worked out quite well. Fortunately we had other rooms all around us and the heat didn’t escape too much overnight as the blankets on the bed were more suited for Spring than Winter. Although they advertise the pool and jacuzzi are open year around, they were both closed. “We’re having trouble with the boiler”, we were told. Bummer! We enjoyed our stay but will probably not return. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
