Beautiful beach. Staff very helpful. Off the beaten path, but we liked it that way. Yes, there is a closed hotel next door, but no construction is taking place. Place was somewhat dated, but generally well-kept. A full-service restaurant would have been nice, but we found excellent food nearby. The kids (teens) loved it!

The desk staff needs to be more respectful, everytime we went to ask a question the staff girls were always on the phone for long period of time. They did not even try to ask how can I help you while putting the phone on hold. Also, desk closes at 11pm, should be opened later.

Housekeeping/ maid service needs improvement. Due to the resort being on the beach sand gets transported to suites. Housekeeping does not sweep or vacuum to remove sand. This was very annoying. We also had to keep asking for face towels as housekeeping would not automatically replenish the supply in the room on a daily basis.

Beautiful setting! The pool and beach were superb! Be aware, though, that the hotel is really in the middle of nowhere. If you're looking for some real rest and relaxation this is the place! But, if you want to be able to walk to restaurants and shops, look in another area of Puerto Rico.

The only disappointment, being a coffee drinker, had to pay for any additonal coffee in your room after the first night, ($3.00) when all other Hyatts and hotels offer it free. The lobby offered free cofee, but the coffee machine was not working for 2 days. We were not offered free coffee for our room until we asked. We feel this should of been 'offered". Beautiful spot. The only negative is that there is an abandoned hotel right next door that hasn't been torn down yet. It is well hidden by a high fence, but present nonetheless.

This hotel has seen better days. The only restaurant is the pool/beach hut that does not open until 9:00 AM and closes at 8:00 PM leaving no place to have a an early breakfast or late drinks/eats. Coffee machine in lobby was broken for 1/2 our stay, DVD machine in loby was broken for all of our stay. No soap in public bathrooms near pool/beach. Hyatt Hacienda del Mar used to be a part of a larger hotel (Hyatt Dorado Cerromar) that has been closed for some time now. The building used to be apartments for sale or rent or time-shares, not really sure which. We arrived on a Monday and were checked in about 10 minutes later. The front desk staff was very curteous and friendly. We stayed until Thursday […] and even got a late checkout with no hassles, and the process itself took less than 5 minutes. The room, a studio with a queen bed, was very clean. The rooms have a small kitchen area with a microwave, toaster, small fridge, and coffee machine. There are no stoves in the rooms; I don't know if you can ask them to bring up one of those small tabletop units with a burner or two on them. They do have blenders on hand to lend out, though, so that might be an option. The bathroom was very clean. It's obvious that the place is somewhat old (the fixtures look a little worn, etc) but it was still a great room. It also had a small balcony with a fantastic view of the pool area and the beach. The bed was okay (the mattress was a little uncomfortable but the sheets were clean and there were plenty of pillows on hand). One thing to point out - some people complain that the rooms are too cold and they can't control the temperature. Our room had a thermostat which worked fine, so we could turn the A/C up, down, or off. Additionally, The balcony doors are equipped with sensors that shut off the A/C if the door is opened to conserve energy. One night we actually just left it open so we could sleep with the sea breeze and the sound of the ocean rather than the A/C. The pool area is great. The pool itself is pretty large. They have a hot tub with a switch to turn the jets on or off as you see fit. Finally, they have a small wading pool (about 1 ft. deep) for the kiddies to splash around. Beautifully kept and quiet. Very nice private beach. Towels, chairs and umbrellas available free of charge to guests. Nice pool, hot tubs and game room for kids. The rooms are a little dated and they had a "closed in" musty smell, but that went away once we opened the doors and got some fresh air in. Took almost 2 hours each way to reach tourist attractions. Hotel did not offer room service, rooms were desperately in need of a makeover. Everything slightly […] dirty & old. Beach was very steep and short - not enough room to get comfortable and lay out for an extended period. Nothing to do, really, but stay in your room. I see what everyone was talking about when they said that this Hyatt did not live up to the same standards as the Hyatts in the States however that was not the biggest issue that I had with the hotel. I did not expect the same luxuries but since the standards are different, I did not understand why I was being charged a $20 resort fee for every night. […] Also, I did not like that the front desk closed at 11pm every night. We had to catch an early morning flight in San Juan and had to be out early in the morning. This seemed to be inconvenient because they did not want to return my incidentals deposit early. The parking was a bit confusing to be also. Some members were allowed to park in a lot in front of the hotel while others parked in a lot further away. I am not sure what the criteria is for each parking lot but on our last day they put a warning sticker on our car for parking in the wrong lot, which we weren't informed of upon check in. As I said earlier, the actual hotel was not the issue, I had problems with the hidden fees. There were nice views and the pool was nice. The staff was friendly. I do not think I would stay here again because of the lack of amenities (while they still charge a resort fee) and the distance to San Juan. Read more
