Barcelo Punta Cana - All Inclusive - Punta Cana

My wife and I visited for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We found the property to be well-kept and consistent with pictures. We thought the beach was absolutely stunning! The hotel was close to capacity, but still the beach was large enough for us to get away from the crowds. I'll say we didn't appreciate the hotel permitting "chair saving" which began […] by about 8am each morning...wait until 10am and every pool and beach chair would be saved, but usually without the owners anywhere nearby. We learned to play the game, but would have liked to avoid the hassle. We found the food in the ala carte restaurants to be good, and we also found that their staff was attentive and friendly--they went out of their way to provide a good experience. Surely a few tips do go a long way toward getting you the quality of service that you want/expect. We were disappointed to find that there is no wait service at the pool or the beach. We utilized room service, but were charged extra...and even then they would not bring any drinks. The house wine is to be avoided at all costs! Despite these issues, given the amazing location, overall, I'd rate the facility a solid 3*. I'd consider returning to Punta Cana but probably not back to this resort--We don't vacation that often and when we do...we want a little more out of our all-inclusive experience than Barcelo provided. Our room (bldg #3 - 4th flr/3407) was well appointed and fairly modern with exception of the 3.5 ft refrigrerator (it worked, but could not keep things from freezing and the door retainer bar was missing, making shelf unusable). The pool and ocean view from the balcony overlooking both - spectacular! All inclusive buffetts and ala carte food was consistently […] good, but service in some of the ala carte restaurants was spotty. The pools were nice, but one should be designated adults only (children of all ages were at all 3 pools). The resort should enforce "no reserving of pool chairs" as most chairs were festooned with "chair predator" towels, etc. by early morning and remained void of their human owners past noon every day. We can verify that there is STILL no semblance of organization for check-in processing and the front desk is under-staffed...and while there was more than one clerk (manually filling in paperwork) at a time, we saw only one cash register in use for all check-ins and everything else involving money or billing (money exchange, check-out, etc.). The room was dirty and sheets with stains (some blood stains). Bathroom was filthy and very bad maintained with broken parts. The food was the worst, the main restaurant was huge with about 50 options but only 1-5 were good, the rest were leftovers that they just worked to look better. The restaurants that required reservation should have a better food but it was not much better and took a long time to serve. Only one beach towel per day and only if you arrive early, depending on the time you try to get a towel, no towels available anymore. Not enough umbrellas too, some were broken. The open bar have only rum and a small variety of drinks, they put some rum, some ice and a cherry and that's it. No free wi-fi as described, I chose this hotel because the description said it had free wi-fi all over the place so my husband could work a little. My Fiance and I enjoyed the stay at this hotel very much! After the first day you pretty much find out what activities are available, where to go, and how to schedule your day. The hotel is pretty big, however they provide and handy fold-able map that has all the locations available with the time that the restaurants are open. Definitely make sure to […] eat at the restaurants they are very delicious, however you must make reservations every morning at guest services at the lobby to eat at the restaurant of choice for that day or else you have to go to the buffet which can be a hit or miss with the food selection. The Hotel has many bars all over, which made it very convenient for us on days we spent most of the day on the beach or at the larger pool which has a pool bar. As far as activities there will always be something going on poolside or on the beach, every night at Theater there is always a show at 9:30pm which gives you the whole day to enjoy your other activities or excursions. One thing that is a must is Para sailing! We did it for the first time and was great, the agents that provide these services are found on the beach where you can rent a boogie board, or they will ask you by poolside as well. We Also went on an excursion called "Scoobadoo" also loved it, its an alternative to snorkeling without the necessary training, it is very easy and lots of fun! Upon entering the compounds of the resorts, we were pleased to see the hotel looks just like the pictures online. We really enjoyed our stayed. The staff at the customer service desk, the bars, the restaurants and the chamber maids were very friendly and accommodating. The presentation of the food is great and guests had many choices of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have plenty of Chinola! (passion fruit) We enjoyed visiting the Tokyo restaurant. The presentation was quite entertaining, the food was good and the restaurant is very nice. Bars are available throughout the lobbies, and the pool area for grabbing that cold Presidente of a Pina Colada or if coffee is what you like, hey, then the cappuccinos, or expressos are available. The entertainment through the day and the evening was great. We got some Salsa, Merengue, Bachata lessons. Our favorite evening entertainment was the karaoke night. None of us sang, but we listened to great singers(tourist). Michael Jackson night was impressive. My favorite past time was the beach, and joining Andres for the aerobics in the pool or just laying on a lounge chair just listening to the waves or feeling the night breeze. The negative: This Hotel is too big and they are short staffed. We landed with a 5 hour delayed, to find out our room was NOT ready. That was the start of our vacation. Also, we were told we could not eat a any of the restaurants without reservations. This was the worst part of the deal. Stand in long lines, wasting precious vacation time in the reservation […] line, to get to the front and be told that all the restaurants are booked for the day, or that the earliest time to eat is 9:30 pm. With 2 kids, this was unacceptable and I have never experienced anything like this in other resorts. Having said that, the alternative was the buffet, which had a great variety of food, but there could also be a long line to get in. Asso, bring your own beach towels, their towels smelled horrible. Room towels, per one maid, one per person, forget about hand towels. The Possitive: beautiful beach and grounds. The kids club Bella and Griselda were great with our/all kids, keeping them entertained and safe.
