"A true Caribbean feel"
This will be the only place I stay when I travel to Cancun. The hotel is a boutique style and beautiful. I had wonderful service from all of the staff. The food was the best I had during my stay. And since it is a small hotel I had personalized service. I was the only one in the pool swimming and had the beach to myself. Granted it was slow season but […] I doubt it would be too crowded during high season as the hotel is not that large. If you want to feel like you're in Vegas on the beach then stay at one of those giant hotels down the street. The food at those places is horrible, the drinks are weak and there are a ton of people at the pools. If you want a true Caribbean feel then stay here. I highly recommend Baccara and look forward to staying with them again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall our stay was pretty good. The hotel was filled with history-- a unique feature in Cancun. Gorgeous tiling! Very family friendly. Cons included a very musty smelling room (unless the AC was blasting,) loud music on the beach (and so the pool) on Saturday (but hey, it's Cancun!) and our shower was clogged. Pluses: huge bathroom, we had a private […] jacuzzi (tho with dodgy wiring, so we left the bubbles off) with a view of the lagoon, the beach was right there and not crowded, the staff was lovely. All in all, it was good enough! Tip: be sure to eat at the restaurant right downstairs. Delicious and cheap!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Another visit to the Baccara we once loved-yet not"
A year ago we stayed at this hotel and it was a hidden gem so we return again on July 2012 to find out that it is sooo run down and pricy. They need to invest more on their furniture. The first room we got was rather small and it had a horrible tobbaco smell. When asked to be changed to another room, we waited in the lobby for at least another hour […] and then were assigned the most rundown, rusty studio. The view was great but the sofas were so disgusting and soiled that we didn't contemplated seating there. I did check the bed for bed bugs as I often do, and thank goodness that it was safe. Another guest did come into our room when we were there because their key opened our room (Security Concern). The shower faucet got jammed and we couldn't stop the overflow of water at one in the morning (Yikes, had a fun time trying to fix this issue). Anyway, the linens were worn out. I just couldn't believe what happened since my last stay here were I told my husband that every summer we'd return to this Avalon Hacienda type hotel. I can see that they'll be strugging. Even the two restaurants across the street from KuliaKan Ave closed down. Hopefully they improve. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I loved that this is an architechurally charming, small hotel, unlike impersonal huge hotels nearby. Pool and beach are both very nice and not crowded since the hotel has a small number of rooms. Restaurant is overpriced and not great; however, two awesome taquerias are right next door, and both are excellent and inexpensive. Hotel staff was ok but […] not great, and we had an issue with the air condidtioner in our room that was not resolved. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect...what more could I say!"
The hotel was formerly a mansion. It has about 27 rooms so you really fell that you are a guest! The staff is fabulous, the rooms are clean and please upgrade to a balconied room it will make you stay unforgettable! The beach is one of the most beautiful in Cancun. The food and the drinks are great and reasonable especially for the hotel zone. A GREAT […] value! Oh I forgot to mention the beautiful Mosaic pool and that Juan and Aaron make a mean mojito! "Not somewhere I wanted to be!"
Not what I expected based on the other reviews. The hotel was VERY outdated and not somewhere I felt comfortable. The appearance wasn't cleanly and showers seemed dirty. The most unpleasant experience was sleeping in the bed, it was hard as a rock with even harder pillows! Only stayed one night.Genuine Expedia guest review
"5-Day Stay at Avalon Baccara"
I chose this hotel on basis of 1) previous reviews and 2) lower cost. Traveling alone, wasn't interested in the all-inclusive because hotel was essentially a "home base' for me while exploring the Mayan Riviera for the first time. Staff was very welcoming, helpful, attentive and friendly. Room was clean and well maintained--service was very good. Had […] no meals at the hotel. Hotel (with beach) is conveniently situated in middle of the busy area of the hotel zone. Felt safe walking at night on street or beach. Parked rental car in front courtyard of hotel (off the street). Early June is a great, quiet time to stay here. Used sister hotel for massage, but exercise room was NOT good: old equipment in disrepair--DISAPPOINTING! Overall, my experience w/ Baccara was a good one. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent ... in general."
The hotel has good location and communication in Cancun, is excellent. The only thing is that they should put Wifi throughout the hotel and not just at the reception. Additionally, a lift to the rooms on the floors above is necessary.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Old Charm, WONDERFUL Staff and GREAT BEACH!"
The Hotel is in a wonderful location and what the hotel may need some minor tweeking in maintenance it Staff makes up for it! The Staff if so accomodating and it is ALWAYS service with a smile. It is an older Mexican Style hotel with a lot of character. The pool is beautiful while not huge is a great location and all mosaic tile. It does NOT have a […] elevator so get ready to do stairs but they are wide I at least was not really bothered by it. The room had a balcony facing the lagoon and very comfortable would definitely stay again old charm and wonderful staff and location GREAT VALUE! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A lovely find in a good location."
This is a charming small hotel with friendly and helpful staff. It is older, but well maintained. The location wi perfect for finding good restaurants and other stores just across the street. "Avalon Baccara Cancun"
We stayed at Avalon Baccara for two nights while waiting for a couple of weeks of time share exchanges to begin. The hotel is on a beautiful strip of fine white sand, directly on the ocean. The beach is not crowded, since this is a small boutique hotel with limited rooms. There are waverunners and parasailing available directly in front of the hotel […] on the beach. The noise from them is noticeable but not bothersome. Our room was somewhat less than expected. It was on the third floor (no elevator) and had a view only of the side of the building next door. We were only here for 2 nights so this was not a big deal. The biggest shortcoming was the lack of a refrigerator in the room ( for wife's meds), which was clearly indicated as included on Expedia website. We were told on site that this was not included in a "standard" room. They also would make no effort to provide one. Again, for only 2 days, we made do with ice and a cooler, which they were happy to provide. During our stay we heard other arrivals arguing with reception about not receiving oceanfront views that they were promised (common problem in Mexico?), and they, too, were told this was not included in their reservation. The hotel has some beautiful oceanview rooms but we did not see any of them being used during our short stay. Service at the hotel was generally good, but it was often difficult to get a drink by the pool. Apparently the bartender had other responsibilities as well, and wasn't always at the bar. We were in Cancun for just 2-days as part of our vacation in southern Mexico. The room was average, no complaints. The beach was perfect, especially since the hotels/sites on either side were under construction or not functioning so there was a huge area of beach with very few people. It is along the typical Cancun hotel line, near to malls and food. […] We just sat by the beach and swam for most of the time, so it was great for us. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"If ever I return, I will stay here."
Loved the architecture! Absolutely beautiful pool and beach. Dining--could have been more prompt in first getting to us. We were the only ones there at the time, but no waiter or others showed up for several minutes. Would have liked to have read about the history of the building. Other guests were very noisy in the halls.Genuine Expedia guest review

Though the rooms are equipped with the kitchenettes, there are no kitchenware provided, so you have to buy everything from forks and dishes to pots and pans. "Charm amid the glitz"
This charming older hotel was a breath of fresh air amid the ostentatious glitz of many Cancun establishments. We were able to get a family room that accomodated our family of five (including three tall teenaged boys), and looked out onto a beautiful beach and a lovely pool as well. The vibrant color scheme and beautiful Mexican tile throughout the […] place are enchanting. Dinner service was a bit slow and expensive, but the food was tasty. Very nice. Charming, quaint hotel - not like the huge monstrosities up and down the beach. Not far from the airport, right on the bus route (which is very economical-good way to go). "Feel at home at the Avalon Baccara Hotel"
My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel and although from the outside it's maybe not so appealing, you step inside and it's a whole different story. It's almost like staying at a house rather than a hotel. There are many gorgeous hotels on the "Zona Hotelera" but here you get one on one customer service that is superb!!! The staff went above […] and beyond to help you out and I am really glad for that because our Travel agent never showed up and just by going off of what the hotel staff told me I was able to travel around Cancun and Yucatan very, very well. Please, just go there and everyone will take care of you. I would book all my stays here at this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Best Value. Great Service. Authentic Mexico Resort"
We were equally :at home in two very spacious 1-bedroom suites overlooking a beautiful beach while also immersed in the historic architecture of this place. It was a true joy to stay in one of the earliest hotels to be built in the hotel zone. The food and service here is excellent. The rooms are clean and quiet. It's also an added pleasure to stay […] in a smaller hotel with great, personalized service where you can get to know the staff and they can get to know you. This is an ideal place for couples and families - quiet and laid back, yet conveniently located within the Hotel Zone. The Flamingo mall is right across the street. The experience is truly unique. The balconies are huge and are a great place to watch the sunrise or to soak in the hot tub after a long day. Using the kitchen in the suite, our daughter cooked a delicious breakfast with groceries we bought at the market. The facility does show its age in some areas, which could use some updating. In fact, some areas were being painted while we were there. Hot water can be a little tricky. We had two rooms and the hot/cold in the showers were plumbed opposite. So, if you think you don't have hot water, try the other knob. Also, you need to be patient - leave it on for maybe a few minutes and not just 30 seconds. But, I would take the character of this place over any of the ultra-modern resorts in which you would feel like you never left the US. If you are the type who would not be happy unless every square inch of the place appeared as if it were brand-new, and if you feel as if it would be a great compromise to live without an elevator for a few days, then, please, stay somewhere else because you would not appreciate this gem. "Great hotel for the independent traveler"
I stayed here with my boyfriend for 10 days over New Years. In general, we loved the hotel. The grounds were very clean, it is right on the beach, the pool area is bright and colorful, and the hotel bar and restaurant were reasonably priced by American standards (M40/$3 for a beer, M70/$5 for a margarita). However, I would not recommend this hotel to […] some travelers for several reasons: 1. Much of the hotel staff did not speak very good English (two main desk attendants did), which wasn't a problem for me because I speak Spanish but people who have a hard time understanding accents may get their patience tested. 2. The kitchen in our studio had tiny bugs on the counter tops. They were very small and didn't have much interest in us, our belongings or our food so we didn't mind them. I also noticed them on my menu the one time I ate in the restaurant. 3. The hotel staff was not helpful to us in making plans. When I asked about snorkeling, for example, they casually told me (in Spanish) that I could catch the city bus, ask around about a ferry ride to Cozumel, and find a guide once I am there to take us out in a boat. Again, since I speak Spanish, am confident navigating city buses, and my boyfriend and I are used to that sort of DIY-tourism, this was fine for us. For the travelers who want things arranged for them, it would be best to go somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Charming but uncomfortable"
This hotel is not very comfortable by layout or amenities for a one week stay. It is charming and has helpful staff though not fluent in English. The location on the beach is nice and relatively quiet with a pharmacy and convenience store across the street. I don't know if I would stay here again. It was expensive for being somewhat uncomfortable (bed, […] pool chairs, room arrangement, poor tv reception on old tvs, people always using the 1 pool table, hard concrete floors, hard to get right A/C, no free wifi). "Exceptional small boutique hotel"
Can't say enough good things about this hotel. The staff were amazing, very friendly and so helpful. This small hotel doesn't look like much from the street, but inside it is so warm and comforting. "Would like to return ASAP"
This is a really great find! Reception staff and bell man were helpful, efficient and professional throughout the stay. I stayed with my adult daughter; it felt like a very safe, convenient location. It would be fine for a single female traveller, too. Food service staff is another story: definitely a "Fawlty Towers" kind of experience for the one breakfast […] we ate there. The continental breakfast described on the menu outlined a breakfast or coffee or tea, juice, toast or pastries and a plate of fruit, pretty standard, right? We had to haggle with the waiter to get the fruit (after searching for him upstairs in the lobby, outside on the deck, etc.); he insisted that once we'd had our toast, that was it, despite "AND" in both English and Spanish versions between the toast and fruit. The service was almost unbelievably slow, the waiter's shirt was filthy, he was not only sullen but appeared to have very pressing commitments elsewhere since he would disappear from the dining area for long periods. Luckily, next door is Tajun Mexican Food, a streetside eatery with excellent food, real Mexican prices (e.g., best quesadilla I've ever eaten for 30 pesos). For real. Also very good margaritas, friendly, caring service. Leisurely eating experience unless you let them know you're in a hurry, in which case it is really stepped up: a full delicious lunch for 2 including margaritas and time for farewell photos with our host Elio inside of 30 minutes! Food to go is available, too. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
