"Expect to be harassed"
Like any other high-priced resort in Mexico resort towns, expect to be harassed by the "concierge" on a daily basis about attending high-pressure time-share sales presentations in exchange for menial savings on activities. The negative is the building itself , its about 30 years old. We could literally hear everything from the rooms around us-everything! Upstairs-either side-hallway etc. We could hear every time they used the bathroom-could tell what they were doing in there , could here them unload groceries and the crumpling of the plastic grocery bags-really we could. I don't want to go into everything we hear cause frankly its gross.Also pools were quite small for such a big hotel. "Good food for all inclusive option"
We stayed in jan 2014 with a toddler and 4 couples. We have stayed at all inclusive resorts in Rivera Miya before-never Cabo and felt the food here was far better than anything we had experienced before. There were less options than some large resorts we have stayed at but there was enough options to satisfy a large multi generational family. The breakfast […] and dinner buffets were high quality and tasty. For lunch (and dinner if you wish) you can order off restaurant menus and there it might get old if you stay longer than a week. A few of us had a few disappointments with items but most were really good. Rooms were clean and pleasant and they give you a full size fridge and stove top for preparing your own if you don't do all inclusive. Beds and bedding were comfy but most were only full size beds. Staff was great and really enjoyed entertainment crew. Kiddie pool was great especially for little ones but set too far away from other pools and plagued on some days by seagulls who pooped around it. "Meh...and NO Wi-fi"
There's nothing very special here. We had to change our room because it was so loud in building two the first night that we didn't sleep. The service was not so great. The waiters out by the pool would disappear for a half hour after we placed our order - every time! The "Concierge" was actually a hard-sell timeshare sales person. The restaurant had […] so-so food. We discovered their sister property down the beach (Villa del Arco) and spent the rest of our time in their pool. The service was way better, as was the food and we could still charge everything to our room. Villa del Arco had a fabulous spa and I got the best message of my life (seriously) there. I would hesitate to call Palmar either a "resort" or a "spa". And, if you have any need for wifi, you're out of luck. My husband had emails, etc. to respond to and paid for the service for our room. You guessed it; it didn't work. At all. It took two days to get a refund. The business center has wifi but the kicker is that you have to sit through a two hour time-share presentation to acquire the code. The hotel is everything we expected it to be. Not a four star property but a property that is well kept, and caters to all. We went for a long weekend. Good gym facilities, close to downtown (15 minute walk) food as with many resorts are a little pricey. Didn't care for the extended sales pitch to buy a timeshare on the property. No means no, I told my partner I felt like I was buying a car, because when you told your rep, no, they would send you to a manager, then you would tell the manager no, they would send in another manager. I had an accident in town and needed medical care. they have a great physician on staff who took care of me and even drove me to the hospital herself. "Not as Advertised"
The "all inclusive" is NOT all inclusive. At check in, they gave us a list of things that werent included in our all inclusive package. It would have been much easier (and shorter) to just give us a list of what WAS included. Of course they waited until AFTER we had signed and paid, to show us that. After a long trip to get there, we were just wanting […] to get to our room and unpack. But they ushered us over to a "services concierge" who was supposed to give us an overview of the hotel and amenities, restaurants, etc. It turned out to be a sales pitch for their time shares. Once the girl could see we werent interested, she was done talking to us. No overview was provided. We waited at our room for over an hour for our luggage. By that time, we decided to leave. We called the RIU, another all inclusive in Cabo that we had stayed at before, who really has an ALL INCLUSIVE package. They got us set up at the last minute, for less than HALF of what Villa was charging us. We went downstairs and got our bag, and told them why we were leaving. Beach front. Smaller than the Super All inclusives. You don't need a shuttle to get to the beach from your room. Beach is 5 min stroll from your room. No reserving of lounge chairs allowed. So if you don't like waking up at 5 am to reserve a spot, this is an advantage. Fewer guests, so no shortage of lounge chairs. Rooms are very very nice. Very clean. […] Suites have 2 bathrooms. Living room has Murphy beds, so 2 older kids can be easily accomodated. The master bedroom is a little separate, so lots of privacy for parents. Food was very good. Every evening a new event and show. The staff works very very hard to please you. This was the biggest differentiator compared to other supersized All- inclusives. 7$ ride to downtown. Excellent hotel with a helpful staff. All of the ammenities of a nice Cabo hotel: great pool, restaurants, coffee shop, small market and access to the beach. You can swim in front of the hotel, but it seems slightly rougher than just down the way at Medano. There are fewer vendors pushing their trinkets, but no real nearby places for drinks or food […] other than the hotel. Therein lies the only real drawback for me: i prefer to be closer to the bustle of Medano beach where you can choose from several pIaces right on the beach. The walk to get to the busier areas (from Palmar) is too much to do more than once a day. Expect $7 cab rides. I would advise visitors to skip by the gal who offers the "welcome package" immediately following your check in. It's a time share pitch. 1. Took over 45 minutes to check in. Counter people move at a snails pace. 2. Bunch of sales people in the lobby trying to sign you up for tours and timeshares. 3. Charged $12 a day for WiFi that doesn't work consistently. 4. Only one elevator working to my floor during my whole stay. Ended up using the stairs most of the time. 5. "Beware of black mold in rooms..."
Upon arriving to the hotel after a long day of traveling, we couldn't wait to get settled in our room and down to the pool. However, one step inside of our room, and we couldn't stand the smell...think of a musty, old basement. After a look around we spotted tons of black mold growing on the walls. We then asked to be moved, and the staff wanted us […] to sign a waiver of all future liability before upgrading us to an ocean view room as an apology. We didn't feel right about signing any legal contract, as all we wanted was a mold-free room! When we refused to sign the waiver, the upgrade was taken back and we were moved to a room with double beds instead of the queen we originally had. "Nice Ocean View but beware"
Our whole experience from when we landed in Cabo started off horrible. Right when you arrive (even at the airport) the timeshare people start to bug you. They try and get you to buy "2 for 1" excursions but the catch is you have to go to a timeshare presentation that will take up your WHOLE day. These timeshare people are EVERYWHERE and bug you EVERYWHERE […] throughout Cabo. I found out after the trip that Cabo is like 80% timeshare, so everyone living there seems to be in the business. As for the hotel, We did the All Inclusive package, which wasn't so "all-inclusive" You we're limited to what you could get. I would say it was more geared for families, as there were ALOT of kids running around and splashing pool water in your drinks. There is only one bar at the pool with only one bartender working and the lines are LONG! There's a sports bar in the hotel, but that's too far from the pool. There is only one restaurant at the hotel to go to and the lines for breakfast are LONG! Rooms were decent, but dated. One day the maid didn't come and service our room. piI would not stay there again. not close to food choices, you can eat at the hotel, but expensive. The pool pictures are deceiving, the pictures are from their sister hotel, Villa Arco. Bad things: The most annoying thing for me was the procedure they have after every meal. You have to sign and fill up the receipt with your name and room#. I have been many all inclusive resorts. I have never seen this in any AI resort. Only two main restaurants to eat. The food was OK but you get tired after couple of days. The resort was too small […] and too crowded. We went to the sister resort "ARCO" [next door] and there were hardly any people in the pool. In our resort there was hardly any space to get into the pool, unless you go very early in the morning. You have to pay for Wifi. I guess this is normal for many Mexican resorts. Good things. Location. Location. Location. The beach. Was very wavy when we were there so we could not swim. But you can take a boat taxi to lovers beach. It is only a 5 minutes ride. Pizza. They have a big stone oven in the middle of the restaurant. You can order a fresh baked pizza any time. I was there 10 days with an all inclusive plan. Overall is a good place to stay, reasonably priced, may get a little packed. My kids (6 and 8) had a great time. We had a fine stay at the Villa del Palomar. Wish it was two queen beds instead of two full beds. A little small for two adults to sleep comfortably. I recently stayed at Del Palmar when I traveled solo to Cabo. I went with the all-inclusive option and glad I did. It was convenient and more cost-effective. You do have to sign a receipt at the end of every meal/drink order as a formality, but it's not a hassle. You can ask for the check whenever you're ready and they're pretty quick. Nice, open floor design with kitchen area, room, lounge/dining area, and balcony with dining area. Swimming on the beach was good. The key is to swim past the initial break and you're set. Another perk I enjoyed about the resort was the ease of booking activities and excursions in Cabo. I particularly enjoyed zip lining, the camel safari and parasailing. "Easy Mexico getaway"
We traveled to Cabo without my husband this year and it was very easy to get around and we felt very safe. My Kids are excellent swimmers so they were able to enjoy body surfing in front of the hotel everyday.Eating and drinking at the hotel /pool was very pricey so we went to the Walmart and bought our own food. The kitchen in our room was well maintained […] and had everything I needed to cook and store our food. There were plenty of activities to do, we went on a snorkeling trip to Chillena Bay,took a glass bottom boat ride out to Los Arcos and our favorite was the ATV tour we took out to the Pacific Ocean. "fun, family atmosphere"

A little loud when trying to sleep at night with neighboring doors slamming in and out through the night. Hello, Upon my arrival it looked majestic. But, the noise level was highest I had ever been around. I travel a lot, and so, like most, we go to rest and soak the sun. I really love the sound of children, but the grown up were load. I tried going to the pool, where I could see the Pacific, and an older group of about 10, all older adults were shouting, […] applauding people on the beach. It embarrassed me, because I am American. I could only stay for about 3 min. I turned in my towel and went back to my room. The red flag was out, but there were people In the ocean. I would suggest putting a larger red flag, where everyone can see it and have a body guard there to stop them. The under tow is mostly always too dangerous in this part of Cabo. "Ok hotel, not worth more than 3 stars"
The hotel was fine, but every nice feature had a drawback. The pool area was large, BUT most guests were rude and put their towels on chairs early in the morning even when they did not sit on them for hours. The hotel should put clear signs that chairs unattended for 15+ minutes will have their towels removed. It is absolutely ridiculous to think in […] 5 days my wife and I were not once able to find chairs in the shade! The all inclusive package has a few different options for food and drinks, BUT the hotel requires you to sign a receipt each time you order anything! It is rather annoying to need to sign a bill each time you order a bottle of water. Also, the restaurants should be clearly marked with their hours and each guest should receive a printout stating the restaurants and their hours upon check-in.
