Just got home from a great vacation at Viila Del Palmer in Cabo San Lucas. The first night our fridge sounded like a motorcycle starting every twenty minutes. "Nice family place"
At checking in was drama apparently, you need a Passport?? So my passport card wasnt enough at checking in! After explaning to the lady at the desk for 15 mins that it wasnt specified I needed a passport book to check in nor my CA ID was sufficient, the male next to her, noticed that we were having issues and just took my ID. ( after ahe said we needed […] a passport to get pesos from the hotel) as if one cant go to another place outside the hotel to get pesos. The rooms were clean and nice, however the bedroom bathroom had mold :/ other than that we had a pleasant stay, the pool is a little on the not so clear side, but that didnt keep us from swimming in it. "The food was terrible, still had a great time."
Ok for a family resort. They really push the time share which did save us money on our excursions. Our sales guy was really friendly and knew we weren't buying, was still hospitable. We did not do the all inclusive. All the food there was really over priced and tasted terrible, except the pizza( was still over priced). We went to the market and bought […] our own food. We ate in town and got a better steak and lobster dinner for 14.95 at " The Crazy Lobster". Internet is really expensive at the hotel. "Not the serene experience we'd hoped for."
Our hope had been for one week of serene ocean-side rest; we got a noisy environs overloaded with nearly constant piped-in music throughout the grounds--so noisy it dominated the beautiful sounds of the sea. Quality, diversity and presentation of food with all-inclusive package was terrific! Staff was receptive and helpful. Cost ADDED for ocean-view […] room, $65 per day, shocked the wallet but view from our upper floor balcony was essential for us. If we'd been warned of the huge ground swells that prohibited most of our swimming for seven days at this beach, we would not have booked this hotel. (We learned these ocean swells are common at this particular location.) The lobby, etc. lacks the awe of the "Mexican flare factor"--seemed sterile and was not a WOW!!! experience. Extra on-sight facilities, like the market and communications station, were convenient and made our holiday easier. The hotel room was very nice and large and convenient. However, the noise level at the hotel was very loud. Every night there was an event that we could hear loudly in our room. The service was terrible. They were completely understaffed. It would take an average of 20-30minutes of standing in line to get a beverage or food. The pool was very small. "Second stay with this hotel in three years."
This is our second time staying at this hotel in the last 3 years and not much has changed. However, our first stay was in Jan. 2010 and the hotel was doing construction on one of the hot tubs and this time (Feb. 2013) they were also doing construction but this time on the Pizza Oven/Bar by the beach. This was quite a disappointment as we were looking […] forward to having pizza and were told when we got there it would be opened on Tuesday but needless to say it never opened during our stay. The hotel has a lot to offer but it would be nice if the sports bar remand open past 11 pm. The other complaint I had was around the whole "All-Inclusive" package that we purchased because we were only given access to the 2 restaurants on site but others in our group who booked directly with the hotel got to go to the other restaurants in the sister hotels but didn't have to pay anything additional. And when I asked if I could purchase an upgrade for 1 day to use all the restaurants I was told that I would have to pay $36/day/person with a 3 day minimum even though I was already "All Inclusive". In the future, I would look at going with the Villa Del Arco so I can use the amenities at both resorts. Overall, the staff worked very hard especially down at the beach. For how much we spent on this trip, it was very disappointing. While we had all inclusive, you had to sign for everything we had, from a bottle of water to a dinner....EVERYTHING. Look at your room bill every day because we were charged for waters that the mini bar agent claimed we took from our room...NO we didn't, we get water for free at the one […] of two restaurants that were open and even went to walmart a bought a case of water for our room.. It took the whole week we were there to get that charge taken off our room bill. They will also swindle you into going to a time share presentation. I was a little wary of the hotel based on some of the reviews I read. We had stayed previously at Villa la Estancia and absolutely loved it, but some of the reviews of Villa del Palmar had me worried. All of those worries were for naught. We arrived at the hotel early, checked in without issue, and were told we could not check in until later that afternoon. […] We were given a short speech about a time share breakfast-simply be firm that you are not interested and you will not be asked again. Yes, they will tell you how good of a deal it is and insist you try the presentation. As soon as I said that I had absolutely no interest, there were no more attempts-no phone calls, no letters, nothing. We stayed for 5 nights in January and loved it. The food was better than any other all inclusive I've been to, and the staff (minus one bartender) was friendly and attentive. The room was clean and not musty (as others have said). Yes, it is a pain that the all inclusive did not include the room bar-we simply ordered extra drinks all the time and brought drinks back with us and the staff had no issue with this. It is also a pain to sign for everything, but if you come in expecting it it wasn't an issue at all. The theme nights were good in terms of food, though the shows were a bit cheesy (but we didn't come to Cabo for the hotel shows). Overall, we loved our stay and would go back in a heartbeat. "Not my Favorite"
Over the years my family has stayed in many hotels in Cabo San Lucas. This particular hotel is on the main beach across from the Arch - so its in the right location with all of the attendant activities on the beach out front (jetskis, parasaiing etc) The property is owned by a developer who built three separate resort properties all next to each other. […] Villa del Palmar was the first property developed. It is the oldest property of the three -- and its age shows. If you like alot of kids, noise, older rooms and dated decor then this is the property for you. To be fair, the rooms aren't awful and they are decent size with full kitchens but that's about it for the high points. Did I mention the incessant requests on the part of hotel staff to get you to attend a timeshare seminar? I would, however, highly recommend the developer's other resort projects which are next to this property. Villa Los Arcos, the newest property, is much nicer is much better kept up - it costs more but you certainly get value for the additional money spent. If you are looking for a more quiet experience in a much higher quality property try Villa Estancia, which is the third property built by this developer. Villa Estancia is a property with individually and fractionally owned condominium units (as opposed to timeshares), much higher quality construction, interior decor and amenities. "Time Share Trap - Be AWARE!!"
There is nothing to do in the evening and the one week that the Dance Club was open for Christmas to New Years, guests were getting charged $14/all inclusive guests and $23/not all inclusive guests. A little understaffed took an hour to get tea, spoon etc (small things). The second you get there even the hotel employees try to shove the Time Share "90 […] min breakfast" down your throat. Don't believe them the breakfast took over 3 hours and the sellers are dogs who don't give up. They pass you from person to person very aggressively. The hotel employes do offer discounts on water activities and other things like airport transportation in return so that was the only benefit of this. This hotel was on a great swimmable beach, something you don't get at a lot of hotels in the corridor or SJdC. Our kids are 10 and 13 and spent most of the time in the water. The surf may be a little rough for really little kids. The Orca slide at the pool was really fast and fun too.They had a nice wading pool for smaller kids too. great, quiet atmosphere. if you were looking for a hotel with a night club, this one doesn't have it. food was ok. i highly recommend the all-inclusive. there is an option to buy 1 day or all at the hotel if you want. that way, you wouldn't have to worry about how much everything costs. the buffets with drinks were $35 a person, which was a bit much […] for the quality of food. if you tipped the food/bartender staff, they seemed to remember you and get you a drink/serve you faster. we left a few tips at the beginning of the trip. beach was great, sand was a little rocky for the feet. the waves were a bit rough, and a little better closer to the marina. location is great to walk to town either on the beach or on the road. be careful of the timeshares! we were able to get some nice "free" items by sitting and listening to the villa del palmar's, and all of the excursions were a little more trustworthy than the guys at the airport. fishing, lovers beach and glass bottom boat and massages were part of the "free" deal. they really try to make you feel guilty and keep you longer than you expected. massages in town are much cheaper than at the spa at the del arco and are much better quality. i am a big skeptic when it comes to mexico, and i didn't feel "unsafe" at all. i heard a lady at the airport say that she has stayed in cabo many times at many different places and the villa del palmar was her favorite! hopefully, this helps your decision! This year marked our fourth family vacation to Cabo. We have four boys between 7-13 years old between our two families. The past three years we have spent a week at the Villa Del Palmar and the boys love it. We feel really comfortable letting the boys experience the resort without us hovering and the all-inclusive meal plan lets them order as many mango […] smoothies as they want. "The sales person that should be inside"
My hotel experience was fantastic. Our server for breakfast by the ocean was Giovanni. He was absolutely amazing as a server. Also Victor, Restaurant Manager, was very nice and hospitable. One factor bothered us a lot and I would like the hotel to change this for other people to enjoy. We went for a vacation ONLY. We did not have any interest in purchasing […] real estate. Once at the hotel, we were lied to regarding a "gold card" that was going to be given to us free if we took a ship trip for 2 to 3 hours. (they should have disclosed that they were going to give us a presentation on buying real estate or time sharing, you name it). Nobody ever told us that, but they wanted us to get the gold card "so we could take advantage of discounts". Please do not insult our intelligence, We are not children. Also, very important. On our last breakfast at a table in front of the ocean a real estate lady was finishing her sale to a couple right next to our table, very loudly and unprofessionally, they should have gone to an office where nobody would hear them and they could not bother anybody with ther business transactions. The lady did not stop talking for a whole hour. For that reason only we will not return to your hotel. That ruins a vacation. Train your sales people to conduct their sales out of the view of tourists. If they want to sign the contract in front of the ocean having breakfast, have a table far away from the tourists so they do not bother anybody. PLEASE! Thank you.
