The Holland House is a very nice, comfortable hotel that's attractively kept up and decorated. The staff are also quite congenial and helpful. It's in a built up part of Phillipsburg, right on he waterfront, but was very quiet. It's got a nice little beach, but it's not a resort. We stayed for two nights before a Windjammer Cruise and it met our needs […] very well. There's a lot of shopping around the hotel if that's your goal, though it wasn't an interest of ours. A number of restaurants are nearby as well. We would gladly stay there again for the same purpose, but would probably pick a more secluded resort, perhaps in a French area such as Marigot, if we planned a longer stay. Read more

I really like the hotel, very similar in style to Amsterdam hotels, modern and clean. Located in Philipsburg. Service was great, very helpful at the front desk and were eager to help with directions or change for a bus or cab. Lots and lots of shopping along Front street where hotel was located, and a beautiful view of ocean and bar/restaurant at the […] back of hotel. Lots of action along the boardwalk. but some days, way too many people shopping. I was able to walk from the front of hotel straight through, past a cool bar, right out onto the beach. They did put me in a corner room with a very small balcony, but the price was good. It was noisy from the street but things settled down after about 7pm. We arrived at the hotel at around 6 pm, and the woman at the front desk copped an attitude right away and said she couldn't find our reservation. When she found it, she stated that it was cancelled. I was exhausted from traveling, so this got me flustered. A man came out from the back room and said not to worry and gave me a room key. I had already […] paid for my room on Expedia, and was upset at the possibility of having to pay for my room twice. The next day, I spoke to a manager. They said, "I don't know why they told you your reservation was cancelled...it says right here you are all paid up." There was no apology at all for the confusion. Everyone at the front desk was rude everytime I asked for help. I didn't want to deal with them to call a taxi, so I just went down the road to find my own taxi when it was time to leave. I will say, the front desk is the only area where service is lacking. The breakfast at this hotel is AMAZING, although they did not have smoked salmon as advertised on their website. They insisted to me that there is no breakfast menu even though there is a menu for breakfast on their website. At any rate, I did enjoy complimentary cappucinos, eggs benedict, delicious danishes, etc.... The rooms are VERY comfortable and quiet. The bathrooms are beautiful. We enjoyed the beach chairs, and the service on the beach is great. If you go to the restaurant for dinner, be prepared to spare no expense. Read more

Great service at this hotel while located directly on Great Bay. Best benefits were an included breakfast and having a reserved section of beach directly accessed from hotel with free beach chair and umbrella. Hotel had a hip vibe while not over doing it. Only slight downsides was that area essentially closes down each day at sunset with most area bars […] and restaurants in the area very quiet. We were a younger couple (early 30's) with most people staying here a bit older (50's & 60's), but this did not really detract us. The hotel itself is very quaint, and located in a nice spot overlooking the bay. Would have been so much better if not for the tugboats, cruise ships and other "clutter" on the water that disrupts the view. Overall the hotel isn't much to look at but it does have some bright spots. Chief among them are the bar area, outdoor deck overlooking the beach […] and the restaurant. Staff service is hit and miss. Most are okay, but with many of them we found we had to strike up a conversation with them to get them to loosen up and be more friendly. Some are simply indifferent to you no matter what you say or do. The security staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are okay. Not very big but not so small that you can't easily move around. Definitely opt for a beach view, as the street view is worthless. This hotel was fun. It's clean and the staff is super! There was construction going on while we were there the first week of November. That made using the elevator a bit of a pain. Other than that the bar area is fun and the hotel food is good. I'd stay here again....the restaurants down on the board walk are great too.

Recently renovated hotel in a perfect location. On one side the front street with all shops, on the other side the board walk with great bay view. The rooms are recently renovated with comfortable bed and pillows. Breakfast is delicious, as well as lunch and dinner at Ocean lounge restaurant. A little pricey, but very tasty! Service at the restaurant […] is very good. Not so helpful at front desk. There is no spa, pool or gym. However you can use the Divi little bay spa near by. ATMs and banks are available at short distance. Ocean view and city vie have pretty much same size. Unless ocean view is your goal, you can save 100 USD with city view for the same comfort. We had an ocean view room, which at first I thought was kind of closed in by the arch, but then we realized that we had the perfect view of everything without everything having the perfect view of us...it was actually very private on the balcony. It is secured and 1 block away from the hotel. Food at the hotel is expensive. If you plan to eat breakfast at the hotel take the prepaid breakfast package, it is 30% of the walk in cost. My husband and I recently stayed there for our honeymoon. I came across the hotel online after doing lots of research for a good honeymoon spot. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to the hotel to see that it looked exactly like the pictures on their website. Upon arriving, my husband and I were welcomed by the front desk staff and were told […] that we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite! After getting to the amazing room we had a knock at the door and were greeted by a manager(?) with a very nice bottle of champagne! We enjoyed every moment of our stay during the 8 days we were there. The hotel was very clean, staff was very friendly, and the food and drinks were great! We had opted for the breakfast to be included which was great for us since we were always up so early. Every day a very nice buffet selection was put out, as well as offers from the kitchen. After breakfast, the beach was literally a few steps away. There is an area strictly for hotel guests, although when ships were there they did rent them. The beach area was a bit "shelly" and the water had lots of seaweed/sea grass, but it was still very enjoyable. I do admit though, that when there were no cruise ships, it was a much quieter scene. I think that perhaps the hotel could provide some options for those slower days such as water sport rentals, or even group reduced rate taxi trips. All in all, the trip was amazing, and my husband and I would most definitely return and recommend this hotel to anyone. Read more

This allowed us to visit a good number of beaches and really explore the island. The location is hard to beat - right in the center of the beach in Phillipsburg. Lots of restaurants and bars, and shopping (if that's your thing). If you want solitude - go to the French side - then plan to drive to get anywhere. It's great to walk from your room to your beach chair in about two minutes, and to various restaurants in five. Nice clean […] rooms. Only real down side is only one elevator - which is only a problem if your above the second floor. They use it for service as well as guests - so there's often a wait. The restaurant has a beautiful open view of the beach, but is very overpriced (skip the meh breakfast buffet at $17 and get a delicious breakfast sub at subway two doors down for $5). Despite what the website may say, don't rent a car through them - it's about twice as much as renting at the airport. They recently made a deal with a place a block away for $10/day parking. If they run out of spots, parking can be an issue. Parking at the marina is $1/hour. You can usually find free parking somewhere in town if you have to. The close the gate to the beach before midnight, and I've had to yell for a guard to get in the Front St. gate before 1 am. It's not an all-night town... Staff varies from aloof and unhelpful to warm and friendly, but that's the caribbean for you. Read more

This is our first visit to Holland House Beach Hotel. It is located in the heart of Philipsburg. Philipsburg from my understanding is the capital to the Dutch side. There are so many beautiful beaches, fabulous restaurant's, and of course duty free shops everywhere. There are two sides to the island; French and the Dutch. The Holland House Beach Hotel […] is very chic. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the price was great. The hotel's street entrance is situated off of Front Street which is a one way street. The rooms are large and have a very comfortable bed with a mini fridge, Coffee maker, LCD TV, ample lighting, Air Conditioning, and best off all a view of Great Bay and the Boardwalk.Since it was the low season only one cruise ship was docked, and was very low traffic on the beach and in the stores. Everything we needed was within walking distance. Sang's Super Center grocery store is a very short 3-5 minute walk from the hotel, right accross from Bobby's Marina just follow the boardwalk and cross the street from the gas station at the end. Since bottle water is so expensive in the restruants we stocked up at the grocery store were its cheap (about $5 bucks for a weeks worth). There was a nice breakfast menu and the outdoor dining/lounge over looking the ocean is hard to beat. The beach is right at your doorstep. Everything closes a little after sunset, except for a few restaurants and bars around the quite streets. But after dark... you need to be in Maho Bay! Read more

You either love or hate Philipsburg. Lots of shops and very busy when two or more cruise ships are in port. The beautiful blue water is really calm so swimming is better than in the rough waves. Holland House is only a few steps away from the water and there are many water front dining options. If you want transportation, parking is an issue as the […] hotel has none. We stayed for six nights at this hotel, during our first trip to St. Maarten. The location during the day is good, the beach at the hotel is nice enough, not the best or worst of the island. The area is full of shops that are open during the day but close fairly early, around the time the big cruise ships leave each day. At night, almost everything […] is closed, except for a couple of restaurants (by a couple I mean two) and although we did not have any trouble, walking around does not feel all that safe, mostly our sensation though, like I said, we didn't have any problems. The hotel DOES NOT HAVE PARKING. So if you rent a car to drive around to the other great beaches on the island, you will have to expect to park three or four blocks away from the hotel. This is not too bad, except at night when those three or four blocks are empty of people and dimly lit. The room was nice and clean, had pretty much everything we expected. The breakfast was very nice, made to order and we quite enjoyed it, although a bit pricey. Overall a good experience, although after our six days here, we stayed seven nights at another hotel on the french side of the island, which we enjoyed a fair bit more than the dutch side, although the french side tends to be more expensive than the dutch. I was highly surprised at the unsavory neighborhood in which this Hotel was located. It is along the boardwalk where the Cruise Ships pull in, and it is along Front street with a ton of shops. The area is highly populated when the Cruise Ships come in. Do not walk into any alleys, or you may fall victim to a crime. We were told not to go into the water […] near the Hotel due to the dogs pooping in the sand, and the beach is not cleaned. They desperately need to get one of those sand combers to clean the beach, after all the pets they have roaming out there (we seen dogs/cats sitting next to patrons at the outdoor restaurants while they ate), and all the people drinking/throwing their bottles everywhere...it would be highly beneficial. One good thing i can say about the Hotel is that the staff was very helpful when making plans for day trips, and also the cleaning staff was always prompt, and the rooms were clean. Read more
