The Argonaut hotel was nice and clean. The sheets were wonderful. The only thing that was unpleasant was the fact that they put us in Room 202 which is street level and has all the big blue plastic garbage cans stored there (right outside the window) before garbage pick up day. At 5:00am on Monday morning the garbage trucks showed up and then at 6:00am the recycling truck showed up. On Tuesday morning there weren't as many garbage cans as Monday but then we weren't there during peak vacation time.

I traveled to San Francisco for a business trip from Houston. After already being on the road for a convention I was delighted to come upon the Argonaut Hotel. The hotel staff at registration was superb and I was checked in and up to my room in less than 10 minutes. I loved the nautical theme of the hotel and was appreciative of the upgraded amenities all around. The room was extremely clean and tidy.

The hotel service was excellent and the conceriege most helpful. Complimentary glass of wine between 5pm and 6pm in the lobby was a nice way to relax after a hard days sightseeing. They also printed out our boarding passes for us before leaving.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Argonaut. It's right in the middle of the Fisherman's Wharf area. The room was decorated in a tasteful nautical/loft theme with a comfortable bed, a couch for TV watching, and a clean, up-to-date bathroom. The bathroom granite counter top was a bit small. Also, the hotel entrance is VERY hard to spot. It is right on the street, but there is an awning which has trees on both sides of it so you have to look very closely. Just pull up and the attendants will take care of you. Parking is far away, so you will probably have to pay for valet parking. We would definitely stay there again. If you plan to visit Alcatraz, be sure to buy your tickets online way ahead of time. There is quite a ticket-scalping scam in place regarding these tickets. We were told at the ticket booth that they were sold out for the next 7 days, but that's because the scalpers have bought up all the tickets and sell them for a much higher price at these little stands all around the wharf area. And, there is only ONE tour boat company available that actually LANDS on Alcatraz! It's worth the trip so get your tickets online ASAP. Also, take a double decker hop-on, hop-off tour. It's an easy way to get around and you'll get a little history, too. Last, but not least, be sure to ride a cable car...we had a blast doing that!

The Argonaught is situated right on Fisheman's Wharf so it is great for just strolling along with the crowds and soaking up the atmosphere. But as it is at the end of the tourist area it dosn't get too crowded or noisy. Very good room although as it is in an historic buliding and the windows are small it can be a bit dark.

Absolutely fantatic hotel staff - from doorman to front desk to bellhop. Have stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world and have never had a more pleasant experience with hotel staff. The Argonaut is a "pet-friendly" hotel so we had two very annoying ankle-bitters in the room next door barking and whining most of the first night. With ear-plugs (a travel/hotel must) it was not too big an issue. Location was excellent and close to everytihng we wanted to do. Would stay again and would recommend without reservation.

I loved the physical attributes of the hotel (building design, decor, room size, etc.). It's truly unusual. But I was very annoyed by two things: First, we paid $15 for a pay-per-view movie and at 8:00 p.m. we were called by the front desk telling us that the adjoining neighbors were complaining about our t.v. volume, which wasn't the least bit loud. We had to stop watching our movie because to reduce the volume meant that we literally couldn't hear it. It wasted our $$ and really ticked me off that the wall was built poorly enough that this could be a problem. Second, the hotel advertises a late-night room service menu until midnight, which I counted on for dinner. When I called with our oder I was told that the only late-night options on weekends are soup and ice cream because the kitchen closed at 10:00 p.m., regardless of what late-night options are shown on the room service menu. I also expected the beds in a hotel of this calibre to be considerably more comfortable. In all, I'd say if you're a tourist interested in the tourist-trap attractions (ie: Fisherman's Wharf and bars) then you'll probably like this place. But I preferred the five-star Fairmont on Nob Hill, which ironically cost us less than this hotel the same week.

This was our first trip to SF and we were so happy that we chose the Argonaut as our hotel... we had originally planned to stay in Union Square and were very glad that we switched to Fisherman's Wharf, just because there is so much to do and see right there on the water. The hotel location is amazing (busy, but really great in terms of being close to a lot of things) and the hotel itself was very clean and well kept... we had a great time wandering around and then coming back to the hotel to truly relax. The free wine tastings were a nice touch! I would definitely stay at the Argonaut again and would recommend it to anyone who is traveling to San Fran and who wants to stay in a unique hotel near the best sights in SF! :)

Free wine tasting was wvailable to guests in the evening. and ... as we found out later this upscale hotel allows guests to bring their dogs and allow them to stay in the rooms for Free!
