"Nice place and close to all amenities"
We arrived at night when the reception is closed but the hotel staff already informed us that she left the room key for us to stay the night and gave late check out. The room is very spacious and comfy. would be nice of there is a microwave in the room as not many restaurant or cafe open at night time in the vicinity.Genuine Expedia guest review
We enjoyed our stay. The rooms were large and comfortable. The beds were lovely and warm on a very cold night. Once the room was warmed up and we were in bed we didn't need the heating at all. The simple complimentary breakfast was a nice touch (toast, cereal, tea and coffee options), but some fruit would be a good addition.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great rooms, great location"
We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The rooms were good value for money and very comfortable and clean. We enjoyed eating in the restaurant and experiencing the stone grill. The kangaroos were right up to the windows of our rooms at dusk which was great to see. Our only disappointment was the breakfast, which we found quite overpriced and were […] not aware of the cost until we entered the breakfast room. I think this should be made more clear at check in or in the guest information in the room as we would have chosen another option given the correct information. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"a comfortable stay at halls gap"
very quiet and comfortable.easy walk to shops bathroom excellentGenuine Expedia guest review
Kangaroos were in front of the hotel right outside our window, at the back of the hotel from dusk feeding on the lawn not scared of people at all and deer were also seen. Great fun!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good only in summer"
In winter it is very cold and the rooms are not heated at all. In bath-room we must use the hair-dryer for heating, for there was no other possibility. Nice was the whirl-pool and the room was great enough even for a longer stay.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Just a motel"
04/08/15 Mauzie2 Melbourne, Australia
Don't expect anything more than a motel! It is what it is - nothing more, nothing less. Very clean rooms and bathroom. Bed was very comfortable. There was a reverse cycle air conditioner available. Tea making facilities. The usual, standard features. The decor is dated and the bathroom is dated but most motels are similar. We enjoyed our stay - we came to enjoy the Grampians and we only need somewhere to sleep. It is not a hotel, it's a motel!
"What does $120 get you?"
$120 gets you a pretty comfy bed and a decent sized room. Unfortunately it also gets you really outdated decor and the worst paint job I've ever seen (they actually painted around the furniture.. Then moved the furniture leaving an outline of where it used to be! Hilarious!). You can live with that though.. After all, it was $120!!! Sadly it also gets you a really rude manager/owner guy at reception. When we were advised by staff that we could check in at 1pm, he basically called us liars until I showed him my phone proving the call had taken place. He then grumbled about being too busy for this crap and let us in after having us stand outside for 10 or 15 minutes. The "spa doesn't work because we can't be bothered looking after it but we're going to pretend it's due to environmental concerns and you can't complain because it wasn't in the room description" sign was a highlight. Honestly, all could be forgiven if the staff were friendly but that's sadly not the case.

Decided to have a drive in the country for the March long weekend and stayed here for one night. Reception staff quite abrupt and not friendly at all, but not rude either. Room was classic 1980 motel room but the beds were quite comfortable and good quality doonas. For $229 you get the room. That is it. A bottle of water is $2.50. No wifi included, no breakfast included. We did decide to have breakfast here and paid $65 for one of the worst eggs Benedict I have really ever had. Everything was cold, bread partially toasted and soggy and two eggs Luke warm, over three pieces of the cheapest "ham" they could buy. Saying that the location is good and just a short walk from the town center. The rooms are quiet and restful. BUT I cannot see how hoteliers can charge you this much with a straight face. I have stayed at 5 star hotels including buffet breakfast and unlimited wifi for much less than this in melbourne and bangkok. I'm sure there are better places in halls gap, but because it is a tourist area, get ready to pay through the nose for sub standard service.
"Good stop over motel"

We booked online that day and had a speedy check-in when we arrived. Although the rooms are a little dated they were very spacious and the large full length windows gave a wonderful view of the kangaroos grazing just outside at dusk and toward the mountains. The bed was very comfortable. Great location to walk into Halls Gap. We didn't dine here but had breakfast which was a standard continental affair but no complaints. Unfortunately the dining room decor is very dark, perhaps a little extra lighting may help. We were toward the back of the hotel so absolutely no road noise could be heard even though the hotel is on the main road. Check out was also quick, efficient and pleasant.
"Reception needs to sharpen its act"

I found this motor inn on Trip Advisor and stupidly - because we were driving - didn't book it online which I could have done with Wotif for $99. So I fronted reception, and booked .... And was told the price was $149! I told the girl I could have booked it with Trip Advisor for almost $50 less, and she grudgingly dropped the price to $129. I was too weary by this time to argue. But I reckon that if it was advertised at $99 I should have gotten it at $99....after all, I was paying cash, and the motor inn was not having to pay Wotif's commission.....

Not really a customer friendly hotel. Conveniently placed is its saving grace. The reception staff were not welcoming. The room was okay and the bed clean, but the bathroom was dated. Large computer generated signs said the spa bath had been disconnected, another said the phone system didn't work. Breakfast was shambolic. Worst of all on arrival they did the old carbon copy of your credit card and wanted to keep an uncompleted copy after departure in case there were any extra charges. NO WAY. I made them check the room and return the credit card slip to me which they did after keeping me waiting to check the room was all okay. Its a disgrace in this day and age. There was no courtesy at all, in fact there was an "exchange" regarding the credit card scenario. I will be using an alternative hotel on my next visit.
"John W .Gone downhill since last stayed there"
01/31/15 John W Melbourne, Australia
I have been staying here for about 7 years and my partner for about 15 years. The place is very dated and dirty and the gardens are in need of some care.We went to our room and noticed dead blow flies in the bathroom and the toilet was not very clean, so we asked for another room. They gave us another room which was a bit better until we went to look out the window and seen more dead blow flies an ants on the window sill and the carpet. The room is very large as is the bathroom. Waited about 5 min at reception when booking out but no one around so just left. The bed was very comfortable but the linen was not very clean. The only positive is the position of the motel for easy walking distance to centre of town.We will be looking for somewhere else to stay next time.Very disappointing after all the times we have stayed there.
"Great location, but only ok service."
01/27/15 Carol A Southampton, United Kingdom
This hotel is in a great location & was a one night stop over between Adelaide & Melbourne. The guy on reception was not very friendly & made us feel as though we were one of many ( which of course we are) but shouldn't be so obvious! The bed was extremely comfortable, but the cistern was very very noisy in the bathroom, which we didn't report, but felt must have been reported before. The lady receptionist in the morning couldn't have been more friendly & helpful, I think she should retrain the other guy! The cooked breakfast was really good but the restaurant was dark, dingy & cold & the inexperienced waitress could do with some staff training. Ok for one night, but thankfully just one!!
"Stay for the location, not the accomodation"
01/04/15 Kate B Melbourne, Australia
We stayed here after making a last minute decision to get away to the Grampians for the night. On the positive side, the location is great, the bed is comfy and the room is clean. On the flip side the service was, in a word, weird. The guy at the front desk was a bit creepy and definitely not friendly. They clearly believe their in-house restaurant is great, and perhaps it is (I didn't try it- I took one look at the incredibly dated decor and decided to eat elsewhere). When we enquired about the breakfast menu we were told we couldn't see one. The rooms are very dated but large, and the same goes for the bathroom. For ease and as a last minute booking this place was fine- but I wouldn't return in a hurry.
"Short break to halls gap "
01/03/15 Rachel M
Great location as short walking distance to centre halls gap and the grounds really lovely with all birds and wildlife right there ( kangaroos outside room etc). Rooms clean but getting bit dated. Bed very comfortable. Man a on Reception efficient but lacked customer service skills as far as making u feel welcome or offering any extra info and enquiring after how your stay was etc . No free wifi is annoying too.
