"Great staff, lovely old world hotel."
Staff were all really welcoming and friendly. Hotel has an old world feel about it. Room was lovely and spacious, could see that some of the decor may need updating. Room had a great view of the city, bed was spotless and the breakfast was a great way to start the day. Would I go back again? Absolutely, as I said the staff helped make this stay for […] me. "Ambassador hotel visit."
Got checked in here the other day by the very friendly Don on reception. Don not only went out of his way to interact but also insisted on showing me to my room and carrying my bags which was a very nice touch. The hotel it's self was impressive but looks like it could do with a refurbishment. It's easy to tell it was 4 star at some stage but its now […] suffering from worn carpets and blown light bulbs here and there and a few temporary fixes. I got a very good rate for the room through hotels.com and given what I paid for the room I think it's fair to say the hotel standard was reasonable. It's also on top of a hill and offers fantastic views of the city (especially at night ) thankfully I had the car to assist me up the hill :-) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff were fabulous and friendly but there was no bath in the room only a tiny shower. Decor was outdated and shabby. Food was expensive and only ok. I Would not stay here again unless I had no choiceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Service could be better in the dining room; friendlier, more attentive. Have to hail staff to give breakfast order; got coffee when asked for tea. Bedroom was non-smoking but smelled of smoke (hard for hotel to deal with secret smokers, I suppose). Nice old building. Narrow steps down into 9inside) bedroom. About 1.5k from city centre. Breajfast was […] €18 extra when booking online but if one took room only, breakfast would have been €11. Shouldn't it be cheaper as a package than separately? and shouldn't it be much less than €18? "All round very nice hotel"
We spent one night here . Location and service was very good . Rooms were very nice however the carpet was badly stained.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Tired and faded in places, but hotel full of character, conveniently located (assuming a small hill isn't too much for you), and at the price I paid good value. Helpful friendly staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent value. Breakfast is very good. ...and I'm picky at my. bestGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We found it a bit difficult to find the hotel without a good map of Cork. The hotel was near a street that had several conveniences (internet cafe, convenience stores, laundry), which was really good. The hotel was very beautiful and the room was nice. Although the room was a bit small for two people with a lot of luggage, the room was well maintained. […] The staff was friendly and helpful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Nice hotel nice staff. But First night wedding reception overflowed into car park snd kept us awake until 4am. second night 30th Birthday party overflowed into car park again and kept us awake until 1am.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"High on the hill"
old style hotel, losyt its grand staus a little, but pleasent stay, booking in ok, room ok, bar ok.. didnt eat that night, breakfast was a little bit lacking, as the bacon over cooked and dry ! would though possibly stay again ?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice old hotel on hill about fifteen minutes walk from Cork centre. Plenty of car park space at hotel so parking no problem and it was free. Lots of one way streets in area so it's a good idea to have sat nav. We had a rather complicated walk from lobby to room but soon got used to it. Room was very large, comfortable and quiet. Friendly staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent Hotel. Will stay here again!!"
Staff friendly, service good. Hotel very clean. Short cab ride to center of city and nightlife. Price was good. Room was very nice and comfortable. Highly recommend staying at this hotel if you get a chance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Plesent stay in Cork City"
Very Good value for the price and the Hotels proximity to the City makes it fine for a stay. Just one observation that might be considered is the upgrading of the TV sets and the provision of Wifi in the roomsGenuine Expedia guest review
Coach trips in both mornings we were there so breakfast was mad until the coach left and normal service resumed, there was no warning this may happen so therefore breakfast was not ready on the first morning of our stay and the whole breakfast area looked as though a bomb had been dropped however we wisely went down after the coach party had left on […] the next morning giving staff time to prepare the dining room for the other hotel guests.staff were amazing though though the hotel needs some tlc. "close to city centre"
Hotel room was in very bad need of reburbishing. Wallpaper torn and falling walls, curtains torn, and floor tiles cracked in bathroom. If Brennan brothers from TV programme "At your Service" were to visit this hotel, they would be appalled at poor level of maintenance. I would not stay in this hotel again. "A great hotel"
I have stayed a few times at The Ambassador hotel and I look forward to going back there again. It is a top quality hotel, all the staff are friendly and helpful. It's situated in a quiet part of the city but close enough that it's only a ten minute stroll to the lively city centre, whilst the hotel is far enough away to be undisturbed if a quiet evening […] is desired. In summary a well appointed hotl with friendly helpful staff in a great city. I highly recommend a stay in the Ambassador Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A little out of the way"
Very nice. Hard to walk about. Very hi up on a hillGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We were well received at the Ambassador and found our room airy and comfortable during the high temperatures in July. Good choice of breakfasts and good selection of dinner options. Some great architectural features in the old building especially the staircases to the different floors - try them rather than the lift. Only significant drawback is the […] location of the hotel which is a very long and steep walk from the city centre if you don't come by car. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great old hotel"
On honeymoon - breakfast was nice but could be a little more. Dinner was good too. Hotel rooms spacious and location central.Genuine Expedia guest review
Staff were incredibly helpful and pleasant. The hotel is old but beautifully kept and was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom, though small, was also clean. We did not use the amenities, so I am unable to comment. The location is perfect for the city centre and is also close to the airport.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great couples room"
Large classic hotel with some beautiful features. Enormous double room with excellent facilities. Staff very friendly and obliging. Breakfast good. Hotel location was 15/20 mins walk from Cork centre, part way up a hill. You need so you need to be reasonably fit to walk back from town. "Once grand - but no more"
This hotel was probably great in its heyday. Sadly, that time has passed. The rooms are huge but the décor could do with an update. Everything looked a bit past its best and it is the small things you notice were poor. On the other hand breakfast was good. Don't choose this hotel if you don't like walking uphill. The area around was quite run-down but […] we felt safe walking through it. If driving, be warned, it is not easy to find the hotel in the one-way system of Cork! "Out dated but good value"
The hotel is a little out dated but it's perfectly clean and the staff were friendly. I stayed in a wheelchair accessible room. There was plenty of room to manoeuvre around the room and the bathroom was fitted with a roll in shower and seat. For the price I would happily recommend this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Efficient but not over friendly"
I stayed here for two nights whilst visiting for a gig at the Marquee. As a single female traveller I was pleased that the hotel was in a safe neighbourhood on the hill to the north of town. It was a 10-15min walk to the very centre of the city and I didn't feel unsafe, even in the early hours of the morning. The hotel staff were efficient but I wouldn't […] go so far as to call them friendly. The room (3rd floor) was in the eaves and had no view to speak of but was clean and quiet. "Great for a city break"
My girlfriend and I were staying for one night in Cork for the ZZ Top concert. The hotel is located far enough away from the city centre to be quiet and peaceful, but close enough to be able to walk everywhere safely. It is located on a hill with a large, spacious car park, near to the main entrance. The hotel is large and old fashioned, with a real […] sense of history, which makes a nice contrast to the Travelodges and Premier Inns we usually stay at! Our room was modestly sized, but clean, comfortable and well equipped with ironing board, hairdryer, kettle, etc. Our friends, who had booked a twin for the same price, got a room about three times the size, with two double beds and a balcony the length of the room! So, it's good for solo travellers or non-couples as well. The staff were friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the local area. Check-in and check-out were efficient, and breakfast was adequate and sensibly priced. The breakfast room is large, airy and bright. After the concert, we spent some time in the bar, chatting with the barman who is a bit of a character! We didn't use the gym, but it was nice to know there was one that we may have used on a longer stay. On the receptionist's advice, I went for a good run the next morning in the neighbourhood, which is a mix of residential and small businesses. There is Wi-Fi in the lobby, but disappointingly not in the rooms. Overall, we would recommend the Ambassador to anyone having a short break in Cork. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The room was very small , there was a terrible smell of stagnant water in the bathroom. The carpet in the room was dirty with a sticky part. We got the room very cheap but there was no fridge in the room which you would expect of a 4 star. It wasn't a 4 star standard the pillows were very uncomfortable. I would not pay more than €50 a nightGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Our 'Hotel of Choice' in Cork"
A classical Victorian Building with striking views over Cork City. Superior rooms are huge with very comfortable beds. Friendly, attentive and knowledegable staff (especially about local attractions.) Freshly cooked breakfast to order (Full Irish our preference!) and not a dried up buffet. If you like tomato juice at breakfast ask for it - it isn't […] always on the side with the other juices, cerials etc. Have stayed four times and is now our 'Hotel of Choice' in Cork. A short (15 mins) downhill walk to Cork City Centre but advise taxi return if of a 'certain age' (We are OAPs) unless very fit (all uphill coming back). Everyone should try walking back once! A brilliant hotel. Look forward to our next stay in 2014. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I was not happy with the room I was given initially but a quick word with the helpful receptionist resolved this. My only real complaint is that the Hotel offers Wifi in every room on their advertising and indeed on their own pamphlets in the bedrooms themselves .There is sadly no wifi in the rooms but it is obtainable in reception and in a part of […] the dining/breakfast room . I loved the ambiance and the old style of the Hotel , it has great character, sadly lacking so much in newer Hotels . The staff were excellent and very welcoming . I would stay there again . "Nice hotel, just not the best location"
The Ambassador is a lovely, quaint hotel. In days past it used to be a military hospital. Rooms are spacious, quiet, and comfortable. The in-room TV's are in definite need of an upgrade, as not many hotels still use the old tube TV's. Staff members were very friendly and helpful. The only downside to this hotel was its location. Although it is still […] in the old town and relatively close to the city centre, the hotel is situated on the top of Military Hill. Walking down to the city is perfectly fine, but walking back up can take some time, at least 15-20 minutes from the main shopping street to the top. If the hill is not a problem for you, and you prefer the exercise, then it shouldn't bother you! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel, not nice food!"
The hotel is a 15 minute walk to the town centre which is ok except it's all uphill on the way back. The staff were pleasant and the rooms were very nice and big. The only problem was the food. We ordered room service one night and the food we both ordered was quite disgusting, too much salt and swimming in oilGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Large and open hotel, with nice rooms and comfy"
All in all a very nice place and good value, friendly people and I was lucky to get a very large double room, could have slept 6! Not brand new but then that gives it more of a traditional feel. Just need to get a decent flat screen TV in the room, would very much stay again for the moneyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a nice hotel but it is in need of refurbishment and modernisation. Clean and warm and the staff were all great. Good value as well. Wifi didn't reach the room and the lift didn't work either, but wifi did work in reception and the bistro. Plenty of parking as wellGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A grand old lady in need of some T.L.C"
The hotel is high on the hill to the north of the city and if you have a front facing room the veiw over Cork is worth it. Most rooms don't benifit from this. The walk into town is'nt far and all down hill, its the return that may chalange some. The hotel its self, has a grand feel but has seen better days. The bar is very bassic the food just Ok, but […] the service particularly at breakfast is very good. We had a bit of a disaster in the room on arrival(plumbing malfunction) which ment a change of room, this was handled very well. I would stay again as my stay was one night for business.
