Best Western Pythagorion Hotel - Athens

This rating is for the Best Western Museum and NOT the Pythagorion because they first one had electrical problems so they moved me to the Museum one. The staff was EXCELLENT!!! especially Stathis, who works 3-11. The other front desk staff was great also. They were all VERY friendly and VERY helpful. They made sure that my stay was a good one and they […] took the time to get to know me personally. They were also very accommodating when I asked for suggestions about sightseeing, places to eat, etc. They even called the tour place and changed a tour day for me so that I could book another tour that was only available for the one day. The breakfast was superb and there was not ANY problem with the free WI-FI. The hotel was close to a bus line, a 24 hour ATM (across the street from the Park Hotel). which was only a few block down from the BW Museum, AND a Police Station. Tour buses pick up at a very close central location and it was VERY easy to get a taxi. My only disappointment was the shower, which was somewhat less than what I am accustomed to as an American. Other than that, I will DEFINITELY stay there again!!! I will tell ALL of my friends to book into this hotel because it was the STAFF that made it all worth while. Read more

Hotel Pythagorion is a clean hotel close, within walking distance, to Constitution Square. Although no need to walk as metro station is 500 meters away. My room was a large room. Buffet breakfast was a plus.

Hotel was very reasonably priced. Rooms (I stayed there on two different nights) were both very clean and comfortable - although nothing luxurious. Only criticism on the rooms was the less than efficient hair dryers. As I was getting off the metro at Omonia Station, I was told by a local that one side of the square is safer than the other. Much to my chagrin, this hotel is on the not as safe side. I got there before dark, so it wasn't as bad as it can be. Walking to the hotel can be a little sketchy, just be aware of your surroundings when passing through. A good restaurant is only a few blocks away, and though I walked there at night, I would not suggest it, and would definitely waste the money and take a cab. The night clerk, Issac, is very helpful and knowledgeable of the area...even told me of the impending transportation strike the day of my departure and helped me make alternate plans. As far as rooms go, they are updated (minus the bed spreads, but whatever...), clean, and had a decently comfortable bed...not as firm as most I have encountered. I even had a bathtub! I've heard it can be noisy, but I asked for a room at the back of the hotel, and this was not an issue. The free breakfast in the morning is decent, and the location for sights is pretty good. The hotel gave me everything that I needed. The buffet breakfast. with a perfectly adequate choice, including scrambled egg and cocktail sausages, was included in the price. There was free wi-fi in the room at around 3 Meg (the receptionist gives you the password); there were two computers with internet access in the lobby, but I did not use them. There […] was a desk in the room with convenient power points for my computer (Continental adapter required). The private bathroom had free toiletries. The room was very clean. The room had air conditioning, but I was there in the spring and so I did not try it. The reception was open 24 hours. The room had a safe; one niggle with the room was that the safe was locked when I arrived and I had to wait until 10.30 p.m., when the receptionist finished his shift, for him to come and open it for me, as he said that he could not leave the desk. The other niggle was with the TV: most of the foreign channels, including the BBC, were unavailable the week-end that I was there; only CNN was available. The receptionist said that there was a problem with the antenna and that this would be fixed on the Monday that I left. So I listened to the BBC and LBC on the internet. The only staff that I spoke to were the receptionists, who all spoke good English. The nearby Omonia (Metro) Station was very convenient although, as the tourist area of Athens is so compact and I walked everywhere, you might want to be nearer to the Plaka area for the choice of restaurants. The street outside felt very safe, and the hotel was next to the National Theatre. There was a post office around the corner with a dedicated postbox for international priority mail. Read more

The booking was all set up and the front desk service excellent. The provision of free internet and in-room safe was an added bonus. While the neighbourhood has some dodgy elements, it was quite safe and handy to train, buses etc.
