The front desk staff were not friendly at all, the bar staff was okay, housekeeping was very good, and the beds were very comfortable, the food was not good at all, unless you want hamburgers and hot dogs everyday. Hotel staff were not overly friendly and at no time went out of the way to make the vacationers feel like they were happy to have them there. We have stayed at many all inclusives and have never had a negative experiece. This was our first. Food was the same almost every day. When we arrived the first thing we noticed was a group of angry guest arguing with the hotel staff because the Wi-Fi wasn't working the staff didn't seem to care much either . My girlfriend found a way to make it work on her phone so at one point there was multiple guest & staff asking her for help the staff didn't even thank her either . Our stay did not start out as nice as we planned. A week before I called the hotel directly to make sure we could arrive early (before check-in time) and use the hotel facilities (pool mainly), without any additional charge, the person that I talked to assured me that would not be a problem, just that the rooms would not be ready until check-in, which […] was not a problem for us. So we arrived about 4 hours before check-in ready for a good time. The manager at front desk was not at all helpful and actually very rude, in front of my whole family, including my kids. She began to ask me to provide the name of the person I had talked to the week before, which was just ridiculous, considering it is Best Western and not some cheap unknown hotel you can't trust. At the end we had to leave and come back at check-in time, horrible customer service specifically from this person. Once we checked in, everything was different, all other members of the hotel staff were great, something for the manager to learn. Do NOT stay here. Never have I had a staff not let you even hang out in the hotel area if you get there early. I really liked my stay at the hotel. The place is very nice, clean and it has all the things I was looking for on a weekend. The food was good and the drinks as well. "Less than 1 star"
This hotel is awful. I read reviews that said the rooms were old, but they are falling apart. The beds are horribly uncomfortable. The air conditioning is in the window so it blows right onto the bed and cannot be adjusted. The bathroom was filthy. And to make matters worse there was dance music and a marching band until 1am on a Wednesday! We couldn't […] sleep and the kid in the room next to us was screaming. The food was below average. Think of what you can make the most of for cheap- pasta and sauces. The pool is only okay. The one nice thing is that this is a beachfront property and the grassy area by the beach is lovely, as is the beach itself. The hotel is also not right in town so you need to walk. Good location, beautiful beach, and close to town for nightlife and shopping. The mattress was hard, outdated furnishings, and terrible pillows. "Run-down property, spotty service"
When I checked in, the front desk person told me nothing about the property--where this all-inclusive resort has meals served in different places when the guest count is low. You have to pay $3 per day for the safe in the room (!? old fashioned-key you have to ask and pay for). Laundry isn't actually picked up from your room when you put the "pick up […] my laundry" card on your door knob. And it took me 10-minutes (and a front desk person who just left me on hold because she did not understand my request) to get someone to understand I needed some laundry picked up for same-day cleaning. They then sent someone right away. My water was turned off, with no explanation... And the front desk person did not help - said she would call back, but did not. I had to call back again to have it addressed. It was eventually turned back on, with no explanation--and the water was BROWN when it first came out of the faucets. I was on the top floor and there was work being done on the roof above my room, early in the morning. It's away from the main area in town, which could be good, but not during slow season. The bartenders and food servers were very good and there were a couple of gentlemen at the front desk who were VERY helpful, but overall, I do not recommend this place. This place is a great deal for what you get - beachfront, a quick walk to town, free breakfast buffet (a highlight... it was excellent!), clean and safe. The hotel needs some work. Pool needs to be cleaned better. One day it looked like parts of a diaper floating in it and I spoke to life guard and he didn't care. there is a small bridge over part of the pool,it needs to be cleaned and painted. One evening the lights went out. Not the hotels fault but as it got dark very very few of their emergency lighting […] worked. In the day light you could see it was in place. Stair wells were pitch black, walkways dark, only 2 at the bar area worked. People walked around useing their cell phones like flashlights. forget the beach if that is what you are going there for. "Nice 3 star hotel with solid basic ammendities"
I stayed with my two children at this hotel for spring break-4 days and 3 nights. I found it to be a fun location that was clean, easy to navigate and safe. My favorite parts were the view from the taller building, the warm pool and non-crowded beach front. Our room was clean, had a great view, comfortable beds and all the basics. We are very use to […] traveling to Latin America on vacation so we had reasonable expectations. This hotel had a rather vigilant gate guard and we noticed an occassional guard with flashlight at night walking the grounds and one at the beach front. The staff was younger at the front desk and helpful. The beach is just fine, there are some small rocks along beaches in this region, so small children might like swim shoes on. The waves are notable so I did keep the kids close but it was managable and we got to watch some great surfers while we stayed in the smaller waves. This beach was enjoable as there are virtually no trinket sellers, just a few services like surfing or horseback riding offer politely a ride. The breakfast buffet was great for us, scrambled eggs, pancakes, some mexican fare, ceral, fruit, etc. This is a nice basic 3 star hotel with a warm pool. We stayed at the BW Jaco Beach location over the busy Christmas season, but the staff made sure we felt like our every need was met. It has a great location just outside of town and right on the beach. We could walk into town with ease and when we were tired from shopping we caught a cab for just $2.00 a ride not a person! On New Year's Eve they had […] a fabulous party with fireworks and dancing. The breakfast buffet every morning was delicious with fresh fruit and a combination of American and Costa Rican favorites. I was quite surprised how good the buffet was and that it is included in your room price. They had everything you could ask for like pancakes, cereal, eggs and ham. The only problem we experienced during our stay was sketchy WI-FI service, sometimes it worked sometimes it did not, but you are on vacation!
