Hotel was going to put us in a basement room with a cot until we pushed to get a double -- we had 4 people. Hotel is antiquated with an inattentive staff. Daytime office person couldn't give us directions. It's really not a B&B. For the money, you should get at least continental breakfast. Instead, you get to use a kitchen, but have to label your food. Night manager, who often smoked in the parking lot and never smiled, gave me the willies.

Very neat old wonky inn with nice rooms. Laundry, kitchen, fridge and freezer available. Very near T (metro train) line to Fenway and downtown Boston. Terrific staff not only made us feel welcome, but were especially accommodating, allowing our very dirty son (we had just picked up from Boy Scout Camp) to shower even though we were early for check in. Nice quiet neighborhood.

The place is charming. Beautiful neighborhood. Close and conducive to riding the "T" (subway), which we did, all over Boston. Also close and convenient to a plethora of restaurants at Coolidge Corner. I enjoyed walking through the neighborhoods of Brookline. I recommend the Longwood Inn heartily, and intend to stay there again, if I have an opportunity to do so.

Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jun 20, 2009
Longwood Inn is on average 2-3 blocks away from the Longwood Med. Center (Harvard Med School) which is very convenient for families of patients or people visiting the academic side of the institutions. There is no room service and the hotel staff leaves by 5pm every day. That said, there is a full service kitchen on the 1st floor for making your own meals. The Inn is right inside Coolidge Corner, so dining out is also an option, though there are only a handfull of places to eat there. The Inn is very close to 2 green lines making traveling around Boston very convenient. The Inn and rooms are clean. Very few amenities and the hotel cleaning staff is a little unprofessional (if they saw you in the hall way, they'd ask you to bring them your used towels to save them the time of getting them themselves). This is not an upscale Inn that feels like a hotel, it feels more like you are staying with your grandparents in their guest room. The fact that it's so close to everything and that it is clean, makes up for it if you are in Longwood on business or for family health issues.

The Longwood Inn is very well located for visits to the hospitals and medical school and the small colleges nearby. It provides extremely convenient access to the Green Line of the MTA, and is also a decent walk to the Museum of Fine Arts. The community kitchen is a nice idea, but the capacity is so small that one small family eating breakfast means that you must hang out and wait to use it. The room was comfortable and plainly furnished. There was fairly little floor space, though adequate closet and dresser space. In all, the accommodations were clean and relatively comfortable, but did not offer much else beyond a great location.

I stayed in this hotel last year, too. So I knew how lovely it is. I love the furniture. Great taste. It is very quiet. It is different from other big name hotels. More homey. But there is no place to eat from the nearest train station to the hotel, so I always bring something to eat and drink, unless you drive. I will definitely go back there when I visit Boston next time. Sorry i am Japanese and my writing is not great. But the hotel is great.

The one minor problem I had on arrival--the TV needed some tweaking, etc.--was taken care of promptly by one of the managers, John, who is low key, efficient, and representative of everything positive about the Inn. The hotel's atmosphere is best described as low key--quiet, unobtrusive, cordial. The neighborhood is urban Victorian with ample trees, yards and gardens, a couple of parks. Its convenience needs underscoring. Since I don't mind walking (and don't require assistance), the short distance to the Longwood medical area was a plus, as was the 3-4 block walk to Coolidge Corners (a classic Boston commercial neighborhood, including everything from an impressive Trader Joe's to a movie theater to bookstores, shops and restaurants, and more).

Great location because it is within walking distance to my daughter's apartment in Brookline. Rooms are very small and next time I would get a room with two beds because I understand the rooms are larger. You had to walk sideways to get around. Also there was a leak from the room upstairs and we had to put the trash can under it! The price was high but reasonable because of the closeness to Boston and its attractions.

The location of this hotel is perfect for Fenway within a 5 minute walk of the 'T' green line. The walls are pretty thin so noise from the corridoor and other rooms, as well as the plumbing was very noticable. If you are looking for a convenient place to lay your head after a game, this could be the place for you. If you are looking for creature comforts, breakfast or a quiet room, you may want to look elsewhere.

Longwood Inn is nice if you want to avoid paying for a large, name-brand hotel. Not having to pay for parking while in Boston was great since there was parking behind the Inn and the subway was within walking distance. It was a short trip to and from Fenway Park, so any one going to a Red Sox game should consider Longwood. My only issue is the typical gripes with any cheaper hotel: the mattress was way too hard and the pillows were way too soft.

This place easily met all of my needs. It was somewhere between hostel and hotel, but exceedingly quaint and comfortable. The Inn itself was cute and cozy, but don't expect a hair dryer in your room or coffee service in the morning. If you like to live simply, and prefer your hotel room to be a good place to sleep then the Longwood in is fabulous. They have nice televisions with full cable and a comfortable bed. It's more like staying at a friends home then a full service hotel. I didn't expect more, and I didn't need more. I will absolutely stay here again.
