"Comfy bed, free shuttle & wifi..."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
I liked my overnight here. It's quirky but not charmless. Called for a complimentary pickup from the roadway just outside MAD Term 2 using my mobile (Americans: make sure your phone is enabled for intl calling BEFORE you depart the U.S.). There's signage with a few dozen hotel numbers including Best Western Hotel Villa De Barajas. Remember you'll need to dial the country code "+34" in front of the rest of the number. A van was dispatched and arrived quickly. The check-in counter inside the tiny reception area feels rather like a car rental kiosk. Check-in was quick and my questions were answered efficiently. I found the room to be smallish but very clean and the bed firm, as I desire. The bathroom, also small, was nevertheless a standout: spotlessly clean, modern and with good shower water pressure. There were a few English-speaking tv channels, as I recall, but when I landed on CNBC Intl (financial news) my wish had come true. I had takeout from the Chinese restaurant across the road, pretty good. Overhead halogen lights above the bed in Rm 204 could possibly sear your retinas. I didn't have breakfast in the room adjacent to the lobby but complimentary freshly brewed coffee dispensed from the machine in the bar was excellent. I'd stay again.

"Perfect Location, fantastic accommodations"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The location, cost and accommodations were great. A few steps away from a major square, metro and tons of restaurants. We could not have asked for anything better. In addition, their was WiFi access in the room.
"conveniently located"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
this is a small boutique hotel within walking distance to the royal palace, several restaurants, bus station, across the street from the metro and near to a small market. the internet was free in the room, (first place on our trip, others were free in the lobby). the restaurant in the hotel appeared to be very expensive so thank goodness for the other close by restaurants. there was a bit of broken glass on the floor when we arrived and a hair in the bathroom, but otherwise the room was clean and fairly comfortable. all in all it was a fine place to stay.

Musicals, hotels, shops and restaurants make the Gran Via a rich vein of entertainment, finishing in the east with the black dome of the Metropolis building. The heart of Madrid, the Puerta del Sol contains the statue of the symbolic bear of Madrid and Tio Pepe sherry sign. Westwards, the grand Plaza Mayor was once the site of inquisitions and executions, but is now mostly visited for its terrace cafes.

great location; service was very personal, staff always pleasant and helpful. We had excellent rate and location was convenient to all of downtown sites are within a few steps of Metro. Absolutely would recommend and book again!
"close to all bus stops"
very impressed. very clean and courteous personell.
"Convenient and practical, spotless"
Good value for a nice room downtown, reasonably close to museums etc. Clean and in good condition, good breakfast, very nice rooftop lounge (drinks only, no meals.) Everything worked well including internet.
"Vacation in Spain"
This was a five star stay in every respect, Edwardo and Javier were the best for advice and answers to any question their help was a major factor in making our trip and car rental and hotel stay among the best.
"Lovely hotel"
Beyond my expectations. The bar is really a lovely lobby, with seating on a terrace with terrific city views and an interior that is very beautiful. It's sort of a lobby in the sky, minus the distractions of people checking in and out. Also, the breakfast is delicious, served until 11:00 a.m.; can easily take the place of lunch.
"Great Location!"
This hotel was in a great location. It was a short walk to Plaza Mejor, Plaza Sol, and plaza Espana. The rooms were small by USA standards but it was clean. The staff was very helpful and nice!

"Good location"
My husband and I stayed here about 18 years ago, so when I returned to Madrid with my friend this is where I went. I was not disappointed. The surrounding area is a bit hectic, but the hotel was well located. The location of the hotel is most important to me in terms of proximity to museums and restaurants. it is good value, and the breakfast buffet […] was well worth the price we paid. When we could not get a reservation at the restaurant of our choice, the Hotel concierge made an excellent recommendation to a nearby restaurant that was quite nice. I recommend. Read more
"An must for Madrid!"
My husband and I just returned from two weeks in Spain for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. We planned to spend the first week in Madrid and after reading hotel reviews online we choose to book the Hotel Atlantico. I can't tell you how impressed we were with this hotel! The staff was friendly and helpful and our room was clean, comfortable and beautiful. […] The hotel structure itself is a work of art in a city full of beautiful buildings. If we ever return to Madrid we will definately be staying at the Hotel Atlantico. We both HIGHLY recommend this hotel!! Read more

"EXCELLENT except room decor"
Once you walk into the room and get over the ugly yellow bedspreads, you begin to notice the attention to detail and thought that has gone into your room. The bathroom amenities are the BEST that I have seen--toothbrush, razor, soaps etc--in case you have forgotten anything. The electric shutters close and even though it is in the middle of all the […] action, it is super quiet. Beautiful rooftop dining area and balcony. For the price in this area, I don't think you can beat this hotel. Read more
"Great in every way!!!"
Great location, friendly and helpful staff, lovely room with faboulous bath and shower. Love the 9th floor business center with the terrace. Above all very clean. Will stay here again when I return to Madrid.
"Hotel Atlantico Madrid"
Apart from the fact that this hotel lacks any real sitting room, it is an excellent choice in Madrid. Moreover, the breakfasts, although not included in the price of the rooms, are well priced and of excellent quality.

"The best place to stay in Madrid!"
After researching more hotels than I care to mention for my trip to Spain last week (Feb. 15-20, 2012), I came across the Hotel Atlantico. After reading the reviews, I decided this hotel was going to be the winner and oh was it!! The Hotel Atlantico is located on the Gran Via between two Metro stops ("Gran Via" and "Callao" - only minutes away walking) […] that will take you anywhere your heart desires in the city. The Gran Via is a great street full of shops, places to eat and only a short 10 minute walk to the Puerto del Sol or the Plaza Major from the hotel. (If you're planning on traveling by the Metro (which I highly suggest because it's efficient and FUN!), you can go down into the "Gran Via" station or the "Callao" station and use the electronic kiosks to purchase Metro tickets.) The hotel front desk staff were amazing and full of suggestions for places to see and restaurants to go to. They also speak impeccable English if you're a bit rusty on your Spanish. If you arrive early (before noon), go ahead and check-in but don't count on your room being ready (as check-out is noon). In my case, my room wasn't ready yet so I left my bags with the front desk staff (they will give you a numbered card so you can claim your luggage when you return) and took off to explore the city. When I returned, my room was ready and I couldn't have been more pleased. The room was large by American standards with two twin beds, night tables on both sides, a small sitting area, a full-size bathroom including a double sink, and a flat screen TV. (Quick note, when you walk in the room, you must place your room key into the slot above the light switch just inside the door. This will allow you to turn on the lights.) The room also had a stocked bar with a small fridge. On the 9th floor is a great little hotel bar along with the business center that has free internet service along with copiers (great for printing your boarding pass for your return trip home). All in all, I was beyond pl Read more
"Outstanding Hotel"
This hotel is a bargain. It is beautiful, well maintained, in a superb location and the staff were very helpful. I will stay at this hotel again.
"Hotel Atlantico in Madrid"
Very clean rooms, bathrooms are excellent, convenient location and safe.
"Great hotel in lively area for great price."
We stayed an entire week at this hotel right in the heart of old Madrid on the Gran Via. Everything you want to see and visit is in walking distance. The hotel is very well maintained; the staff was excellent and well-informed; the breakfast service was plentiful and managed well; our room was perfectly arranged and large, as well as being in a fantastic […] old building. We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Atlantico. Read more
"Central, safe, clean, wonderful!"
This is in a great part of town on the Gran Via. It's right by Callao subway stop, so no need to spend time getting lost trying to figure out where the hotel is. It's clean, safe, and friendly. Highly recommended for your stay in Madrid! Easy enough to sort out the subway on your own from the airport to the hotel - you change twice, but they are quick […] stops. Read more
"great location and stylish/comfortable room"
I booked this hotel based on TripAdvisor reviewers. I was in a single room and it was plenty big for one person. The bathroom was a combination tub/shower. Good light. Javier, who works at the front desk (and I suspect is a manager at the hotel) was incredibly helpful. He did a little research online and marked the route for me on a map to the nearest […] Citibank. He also helped with where to go to get a phone and other inquiries. The top floor terrace and public rooms are a great place to spend some time. All in all, I could not have been more pleased! I intend to make a return visit soon! Read more
"The Hotel Atlantico = Pleasant and Enjoyable Hotel"
Loved this hotel. The front desk staff were prompt, attentive and courteous. The hotel, both inside and out, was really top-notch. I don't have one complaint about this hotel. It was EXTREMELY clean and state-of-the art. We had comfortable beds and clean linens. Nice tv's with english channels. Nice furnishings. The bathroom was large and had a great […] shower and their was even a radio in the bathroom. I couldn't have asked for a better hotel experience in Madrid. Read more
"Great location"
This hotel is very nice and comfortable. Not too over the top fancy, just right. The location is near ALL the major sites and activities. I didn't even have to take the metro to anything. The rooms are very clean and the cleaning staff makes sure they are very clean throughout the entire stay. The location is convenient, but I couldn't find any reasonably […] priced restaurants around there. The restaurants are good, just expensive. Read more

"Hotel Atlantico - Madrid"
Great location, relatively close to La Puerta del Sol. Grand Via and Callao Metro stations are just a few yards away. The hotel is very clean and the staff was always ready to help! Would definitely recommend it!

"Hotel Atlantico - Madrid, Spain"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Atlantico (6 nights, October, 2011). Service was great, room was clean and spacious. Nice breakfast. Shuttle bus to the airport was a plus. The location is very convenient. The only caution I would mention is that we noticed lots of prostitutes (both on the Grand Via and along Calle Montera). This is clearly not […] a shortcoming of the hotel, but I thought I would mention it. I would recommend the Hotel Atlantico without reservation. Read more
I can't imagine a better location than the Gran Via. All of the staff were gracious and friendly. While you might find a cheaper breakfast we thought it was a great value for the quality, choices offered and the atmoshere. A great stay.
"Best location! great hotel!"
From the airport easy to navigate the metro brings you right to the front of the hotel! Sits in the Sol district and in the heart of the city. rooms can be dark and quiet if at eh back or bright and bustling if facing the main road Gran Via . Staff gracious keep luggage we broke our stay there with a trip to barcelona in between , they kept our luggage […] till we returned. wonderful 9th floor lounge great views and good place to enjoy a glass of wine. Hop on Hop off bus can be purchased right there , Trips to Toledo too ! and bus for both ,walking distance. Metro right outside too so you can go to museum that way or on the hop on hop off bus depends on how much time you intent to spend, metro ticket much cheaper . lots of eateries walking distance , of hotel. would come back here for sure again . "Atlantico was classic"
The Atlantico was in a very central location, close to public transportation, and a good starting point for a walking tour. The room was small, but safe and clean.
"convenient, clean and well-managed"
I was happy to find this hotel. The area is excellent in terms of getting around Madrid. The staff were helpful. The only problem was that the room was small and the window was not a window, but opaque opening onto an air shaft - basically a windowless room. No view, but on the other hand, no street noise considering that the hotel is on the Gran V […] ia. Read more
"Atlantico is a great choice"
We found this hotel to be excellent in almost all aspects - super front desk and terrace service people, very nice rooms with great bathrooms, quiet even though on the Gran Via, good breakfast which was reasonably priced. The only con is that smoking is allowed and the hallways can be filled with smoking odors.

"Best Western Atlantico"
The hotel is a fantastic option if you are traveling to Madrid. The room was clean, in a perfect location on Gran Via and the hotel staff was friendly and spoke English. The only negative that I can think of was that they didn't have free WIFI in the hotel, but they do have a business center with 2 computers that you can use for free and they do have […] internet service you can pay for in your room. "Hotel Atlantico -- Small rooms, close location"
The Best Western Hotel Atlantico is in a great location for tourists-- right along the Gran Via, all of the museums, the palace, Plaza del Sol, and el Parque del Retiro are within walking distance (for active individuals). We had no need to take a cab or the Metro during our entire 4-night stay as a result of this central location. However, my main […] disappointment with the hotel was the room itself. The two single beds that we received were small, hard, and covered with a seemingly very old comforter. Beyond the beds, there was barely enough room for our luggage. Our window looked inward on a courtyard that provided barely any light. The bathroom was an acceptable size, though. The bottom line is that if you can get a good deal on your room rate and plan to be out touring for most of the day, the Hotel Atlantico may be acceptable (I did notice, however, that the beds gave me some back pain... and I am a healthy 23-year-old). If you do not intend to be out touring with a few stopovers for rest, I might recommend a hotel further from the main Gran Via, trading off some travel time for more space. All facilities were clean. "Great Location; Not your typical Best Western"
I think the Hotel .com bookings get the marginal lower floor rooms. That was our overall experience on our 3 week trip. Ours was small, on the thrid floor, but ok, but when the contruction started on the room next door at 4 pm when we were trying to nap I went ballistic. All they could do was quiett the noise--they did but it took a while--and they […] upgraded us to a Superior Room on the 8th floor for the second night (what a difference between rooms). The staff was friendly and helpful with all of questions and problems. And,. most importantly the Hotel was well located for all of our sight seeing. Walking distance to the Prado, etc. However, of all the 6 or 7 hotels in Spain we stayed in during our trip, this one had the worst breakfast of all--of course, it was only 11 Euros. Maybe yu get what you pay for?? Read more
"Wonderful hotel"
Excellent, stylish, well-maintained hotel in convenient, central location in Madrid. Superior room facing Gran Via on 8th floor exceeded our expectations. Lobby is small and unassuming; wait until you get upstairs. 9th floor lounges / patios are very nice and relaxing. Only downside is lack of room service, and the "cafeteria" is simply a short list […] of appetizers / sandwiches that the bartender apparently has stashed away in the kitchen behind the bar. But there's no reason to eat at the hotel anyway (other than breakfast downstairs, which is ok). Read more
Perfect location to shopping. A must stay for someone looking for English speaking hotel...only drawback is the wi-fi was only available on the roof top deck or 1st floor..not in rooms...roof top is lovely for evening cocktails...balcony in rooms a plus....
"Excellent Location, Beautiful Luxury Hotel"
The hotel is right in the middle of town and walking distance to Plaza Mayor and other cool places. Beautiful hotel, very clean and comfortable. Great service too. We were very pleased with our stay. The hotel also offers a shuttle to the airport which was very convenient.
