Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 24, 2009
We stayed overnight for an early flight out the next morning, but got little sleep due to the stench of cigarette smoke and the loud banging of other doors in the building. Granted, the entire floor was marked "non-smoking", but the policy seemed to be unenforced and our room was both smelly from old cigarettes and from current smoke in the air. The main doors to the rooms needed the cushioning effect of some rubber insulation or rubber bumpers because the doors made a loud noise even when care was used in their closure. The beds were comfortable and the room and bathroom were adequate and clean. The shuttle left every 45 minutes for the airport....a 15 minute drive. The pick-up FROM the airport was very confusing....a machine with a phone number pad to dial but no handset or instructions. The hotel restaurant opened for dinner service at 8:30 pm so we found a greasy spoon nearby. We would try a different hotel next time.

The hotel itself very attractive. Service was excellent. Food in the bar bistro well prepared. There is no place else to eat in walking distance The location was difficult to find. GPS coordinates should be given. The shuttle pick up at the airport is only every 45 minutes which is a long time to wait.

Indeed it is close to the Barcelona Airport, but not so much as to be comfortable to walk to, especially for an elderly person, or someone who is carrying a big suitcase.

Great place to stay except 1 problem - location. It's kinda far from Barcelona but only 7-10 mins to airport. I drove from Madrid at it was pretty hard to find it without GPS. There's a port next to the hotel with a lot of trucks going back and forth. Pluses: free wifi, swimming pool, free parking, free shuttles to airport. No free breakfast though.

Hotel shuttle from airport to hotel that was expected to come every 30 minutes did not come for more than one hour after we reached the shuttle pickup location. Other shuttles for hotels in the same area had come 2-3 times while we waited in the rain. Shuttle from hotel to airport in the morning never came and we had to get a taxi to airport (22 euros). Hotel is not 2km from airport - more like 6-8km. Hotel staff was not friendly, kept insisting that the shuttle came every 30 minutes which was irritating to all of us who had waited for one hour. If you are looking for convenience of transportation to the airport, do not stay here.... location is also in an industrial area that didn't feel good..

This is a much better hotel than typical for the U.S. "Best Western" chain. This is a very high end, elite experience. The shuttle was convenient, came right when I called, and no pushing for hidden fees, tips, etc. Wonderful decor in the room. Perfect experience - I wish I could have stayed longer but just used it for sleep between connecting flights.

1st floor was nice. Service at bar/restaurant was good. Prices were high for presented food. The room was nice, but "double bed" was two twins of uneven height. The walls were thin and noise level was high. Even the movie in English was unavailable due to some tech malfunction. Overall, we would recommend avoiding the Alfa.

We knew this was an "airport" hotel and would be located in the warehouse district, so we didn't expect it to be immersed in the culture of Barcelona. We picked it because it was close to the airport and it offered a shuttle to the airport for our early flight. Even though we were told the first shuttle left at 5:00am, they said they would accomodate us and have the shuttle ready at 4:30am so we could catch our early flight. So we decided to stay. When we went down to the lobby to leave, their shuttle was a taxi they had called for us! I said they should pay for the taxi but the new guy at the desk had no clue what had previously transpired. We had take the taxi and pay the 26 euro. Since we had to take a taxi anyway we should have stayed in the Old Town district. They say the hotel is located 2 km from the airport. That is the longest 2km in the world. It still took us 20 minutes by taxi to get there. We also rented a taxi to into the city center which cost another 26 euro and took 40 minutes during rush hour. The busride back at night took an hour and is the last stop on the line and drops you off about a mile from the from the front doors in the middle os warehouses. The afternoon bus was better and dropped us off about 50 meters from the door but still took 40 minutes. Why anyone would build a hotel in this area is beyond me. I really thought it would work for us, but it didn't. If they would have provided the ride to the airport then it probably would have worked out fine, but they were not honest with us. Nice rooms though, very clean and modern. 4star rooms. 1 star location. I really don't see how they can stay in business much longer.
