"Great choice!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Price and location were right. Grounds and maintainance inside and out were above average....flowers blooming everywhere! Front desk friendly and efficient. Room spacious and well appointed with 2 Q beds and new, big, flat screen TV (room 301). Towels were not lush, but there were 4 of them, so no issues!

"Good mid-price choice"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
This is a good choice if North Vancouver is your destination. Lots of shopping and eating in the market below the hotel, which is also where the parking is located. The more upscale and higher priced rooms get you further out towards the water, which can be worth it in terms of quiet and view.
"2 nights in Vancouver."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
Hotel was very clean and new. Hotel is in middle of Chinatown so you won't see many chain restaurants or food other than very traditional Asian.

"very satisfactory"
Very good hotel. Sadly the pub and restaurant were being renovated and could not be enjoyed. However they did give discount coupons for a nice restaurant close by. Will likely use again for future visits.

My wife and I enjoyed the help the hotel staff provided and they answered all of our questions or knew how to find an answer. The only problem we had was the internet was spotty, but other than that we thought the price, rooms, and location were ideal for our visit - very close to Stanely Park which is a must see attraction.
"Great hotel, except washroom and elevators"
The location was very convenient for many things, especially for Stanley Park and the Kosher Marble Slab. The smell of the bleach on the sheets was also very reassuring proving the cleanliness. It's not everywhere that you can even smell how clean the room is. However, the bathroom was an antique - well worn. The hot water was not that reliable, and […] would sometimes become pure hot water for no discernible reason. Also, the elevators would drop the last 12 cm. each time it arrived at the lobby. "best western"
the hotel was far to loud, way too much street noise, windows are thin and do not block the sound.
Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable room. Room had a view of the parking lot, but not a problem since English Bay is virtually right outside the front door. Walls a little thin, but the neighbors went to bed at a reasonable hour. ;-)
"Best Western"
The staff was friendly and the hotel clean. The parking was a bit shadey, open parking with no security. Other than that the hotel was close to Denman with great food and walking distance to Robsom street.
"Best Western Plus Sands Hotel - Perfect Location!!"
We changed our itinerary at the last minute to include one night in Vancouver and we were glad we did. The Best Western Plus Sands Hotel couldn't have been better. It was very easy to locate; parking was convenient; the room was clean and the staff was extremely helpful and very welcoming. Once we parked out car we didn't even need it. We were able […] to walk downtown Vancouver and felt very safe in this downtown location. If we return to Vancouver in the future to explore all the things we didn't have time to see, we would definitely choose the Best Western Plus Sands Hotel again. Read more
Don't let the exterior fool you, its a nice hotel. Not fancy but pleasant and very clean. The beds were exceptionally comfortable. we had heard some concerns about the area- not sure why we loved it! Right at the beach , across from Tim Horton's, many shops and grocery within easy walking distance. There was some confusion around need of beds- they […] took care of it immediately. Friendly and againCLEAN!!! We will definitely stay there again! Read more
"Had a great stay"
Hotel staff was friendly, room was nice and the bed was awesome. The connecting bar and restaurant was a ton of fun if you like to karaoke. Location is really nice and close to English Bay. I will return.
"good deal, great location"
an older hotel but well-maintained. service at the desk was excellent. rooms were very clean. housekeeping was consistent and timely. location was very convenient 1 block from English Bay and walking distance to Stanley Park and lots of great restaurants. Parking for our stay was not too difficult. only negative is that if you have a street-side room […] you will definitely get traffic noise (especially with the bus stop in front) but the trade off is that you do get a pretty decent view of the Bay. I was disappointed to find that there was a $15 parking charge that wasn't disclosed in advance.

"Good pace to Stay"
The hotel is well located to the waterfront and all the activites associated with it. Many points of interest are an easy walk from the hotel or the ferry that will carry you to them such as Granville Island. The staff was accomodative in providing directions and recommendations for the local interests. The rooms are nice and clean. Moreover, the rates […] for the hotel are extremely reasonable. The hotel is in a big city though, so ear plugs might be recommended if you need silence to sleep. Read more
"BW-Sands on Davie near Stanley Park and Engl Bay"
I'm surprised no one else has written a review of this place on hotels.com. I was worried about booking this hotel at first because it seemed no one was brave enough to write a review so I googled the hotel and found some other reviews on Tripadvisor. I highly recommend that you read those reviews as they were true to my experience as well. So let's […] get down to the nitty gritty. There are a lot of drawback to this hotel--rooms on the road side of the hotel are noisy and make it nearly impossible to get a good night's sleep. The bathrooms are small and cramped. The rooms feel dated, old, and a little dingy. You can hear people walking by and sometimes even in the next room. The front desk service with the exception of the managers is somewhat unprofessional and inexperienced. It seemed like many of them were tired college freshmen. You may wonder why I would recommend this hotel. Well, it's location to the west end of the Stanley Park along the seawall was amazing. It was also a very easy walk to the ferry down Beach Ave to get to Granville Island's Public Market. Also, two main bus routes that take you into downtown, Gastown, and Chinatown are right in front of the hotel. Another reason that I recommend this hotel is that I think while it was not a grand, fancy experience with amenities and a perfect oasis--I got what I wanted out of it: a safe place, a good price, and a mostly clean room. Those of you who want a fair hotel in a prime location for a good rate, ask for a room on the east side of the hotel and you'll be fine. Read more

"Best Western Sands Plus Davis St. Vancouver"
Fantastic place to stay! Less than a block from the English Bay with it amazing walkway, loved the Inukshuks, and so close to Stanley Park and amazing restaurants. Hotel staff were fantastic, friendly, and helpful. I would definitely go there again.

"Nice hotel, but the noise is too much!"
I arrived at the hotel, to find across the road major noise from a building just beginning to be constucted. I was given around a room at the back of the hotel, and there was very little noise. The construction is to go on until the fall of 2013. There are only so many rooms at the back to go around. Location is great, comfort great, noise bad!
"Sands by the Sea"
All I have to say is: FABULOUS! Great location to English Bay, the sea wall, and the village.

"Average service, no curtains on windows!"
The room was clean and as described, but there were only sheer curtains on the windows, which was a nightmare since the window overlooked a well-lit busy city street. The light kept me awake a lot of the night. Also, on check-in I requested a taxi for 7:15 the next morning. I was told I could book it myself. Not great service. Finally, I was required […] to authorise (key in my PIN through the debit machine) a $250 deposit on my credit card "in case I smoked in the room". I wasn't happy with that kind of arrangement when at every other hotel they are satisfied with having a credit card number on file. I wouldn't stay there again. Read more

"Best Western Sands Vancouver - close to the beach."
We recently stayed at the BW Sands for a girls shopping weekend. Though the Sands is a fairly decent trek from the area we were shopping, we had chosen to stay there based on the availability of rooms with 2 queen beds (with 4 girls going, 2 queens were needed). Unfortunately we were "upgraded" to a suite which, though lovely, had 2 double beds and […] a double pull-out couch which meant we still had 2 of us in a double bed. The room was clean and quite nice, but the pay-per-view movie system did not work, the air conditioning did not work, the fan in the bathroom did not work (4 women showering - you can imagine the steam) - though since the shower did not stay consistently hot, this was not as bad as it could have been and the coffee maker did not work. Our biggest complaint however was the fact that, when we pointed out that the room did not have queen beds as we had requested, the front desk staff argued with us, claiming that the beds were queens (though a look at their website clearly shows that their suites have either 2 doubles, one double or a king bed - no queens mentioned). We had to repeatedly argue that the room had double beds and finally gave up with no resolution. While the location of the hotel was very near a beautiful beach and a number of wonderful dining choices of all types, it was too far from the shopping and entertainment district that we had travelled to Vancouver for. "Best Western plus Sands"
An older property downtown near Stanley Park. Rooms were renovated in the not too distant past--clean and not too worn. Parking was extra, and though we were concerned about the unsecured parking lot, we encountered no problems. Rooms were comfortable, but the window air conditioner did not work well. However, the drone of the AC masked the road noise...the […] hotel is on a busy street corner with frequent bus stopping and starting. If you are sightseeing north of downtown you might want to stay in N. Vancouver....traffic over the Lions Gate Bridge is horrendous and may take up to an hour just to cross the bridge. Rates were very reasonable for Vancouver. Overall a mixed experience...but if you are on a budget this might be the place for you. Read more

"The Sands - Vancouver"
All in all a great place to stay if you are going to Vancouver for Tourism, very close to the most important or iconic places to visit in Vancouver (e.g. Stanley Park). Before I booked I read that the rooms were a little bit noisy (not outside sound proof), and this is true, Our room was on top of the street where the bus stop is, and you definitely […] could hear the people, the cars passing by, etc. but for me That's OK I don't have any troubles sleeping specially after a long day walking in Stanley Park, but some people may find this annoying. The rate was OK. but the I stayed in the same week in a better star-ranking hotel in Seattle for around 30% less, but to be fair, this Vancouver fare was the best one I could find (for this kind of hotel) during the days I needed it. Anyways, for a few days knowing Vancouver I highly recommend you staying at this hotel. I almost forgot, if you bring your vehicle, you will have to pay for the self-parking, around 20CAD per night, just a warning that you need to consider that in your budget. Good Luck. Read more

"Best Western Sands in Vancouver"
The location was perfect. You walk out you door take a right and there is the ocean. You are a 25 minute walk to Granville Island and Robson street is just down the street. We were able to check in early which was nice. When I went to make coffee in the morning I found out that our coffee maker was broken so my boyfriend called down and they said that […] if I came down in 5 minutes they would have a pot of coffee ready for me. If the young man wasn't the only one on in the morning he would have brought it up to me. The Checkers restaurant on the premises is okay. The staff are a little slow and not all that attentive to their customers. The food is okay, a little over priced for what you get. Overall I would highly recommend the hotel! Read more

"sauber und tolle Lage"
Die Lage des Hotels ist spitze, fast direkt am Strand der English Bay, Busverbindungen direkt vorm Hotel (Linie 5 nach Downtown und Robson Street, C23 Richtung Canada Line und Flughafen) Hotel sieht von aussen schrecklich aus, Innen aber alles sehr sauber und gemütlich. Man merkt zwar dass das Interior schon etwas älter ist (vor allem im Aufzug), aber […] sonst ist alles top. Read more
