"WRONG SIDE OF THE FREEWAY & ALL NIGHT TRAIN HORN"
This was not a good experience. In fact the first Hotels.com choice that was unsatisfactory. The train sounded the horn every hour throughout the entire night. Very tough to sleep through. Too far from the rest of the group at City Center near 11th & 12th streets and Broadway. Would not recommend this hotel. Sorry!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"cute, unexpected find"
needed an airport-close place to stay (but not so close you hear planes all night) for an early morning flight the next day. Usually stay at the Marriott, but that was completely booked, so stumbled across this property. Was a very pleasant surprise. cute retro vibe, clean, well cared for property that is VERY reasonably priced. walking distance to […] all sorts of good food options. staff were all great. "It was a decent stay, but not worth the money!"
I think the room was decent. But for a three star hotel at the rate I paid, I was in awe of the grounds and amenities. It looked like a trashy motel at first glance. My pillows had stains on them and I had to sleep above the comforter. The location to the waterfront was nice but the neighborhood on the way there was disheartening. Honestly, that might […] be more of a reflection on Oakland as a whole than this particular hotel though because the city seemed a little depressed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Price was fair,,,"
Enjoyed my stay .The location is excellent. Room was clean, nice view of pool. Bathroom very small.. No microwave.. Just a average room, but the price was right for Jack London Sq... The woman desk clerk during the day (Tues thru Thurs) was outstanding... I would stay at the Inn again.. Overall, the place was just fine!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not recommended for business travel"
You get what you pay for: The train is about a block away and VERY loud. The wifi service is terrible. I would not stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
TV is based on satellite rather than cable and routine lower level stations didn't work., They sent someone to the room who said, yeah, the sound doesn't come in well on those stations. Totally unacceptable. Thankfully I was only there over night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great find!!! Great location!!!"
From the time I checked in to the time I left, I was treated very special. Barbara at the front desk was warm, funny, and accommodating. Barbara offered to watch my bags when I checked out and she told me to enjoy the city and have fun. I will definitely be back and will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone I know who will be in the area. Thank […] you Barbara for making my stay a GREAT one! "Wish it were better"
Location is great as long if you don't mind a few homeless hanging around the walk between the hotel and Jack London Square. TV was new but very pixelated and not in HD. The room smelled strongly of cinnamon air freshener. Three of the four washcloths were dirty with makeup stains, like they had not been washed. I wish this hotel would focus on these […] little things, then it would be perfect for when I travel for work. Another wish is that they had a little breakfast. Parking was an additional $15/night. "Not a bad choice if you want to be near Jack Londo"
Rooms weren't luxury but they were not that bad either. It looked pretty clean, and it's a decent hotel to stay at if you are in the jack london area. The surrounding area might not be the best if you wonder too far. Parking does cost money, and it isn't locked or anything so the price for that isn't desirable, but at least it's better than being on […] the street. But by no means is it any safer. Overall, not bad but a little pricey. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"I should have stayed in SF"
The people working here were very friendly and helpful, and the room was comfortable and clean. Located near Jack London Square, but in an area that is run down. We stayed here hoping to save some money, but after tolls, and parking in SF, I paid about the same.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A comfortable motel with a nice pool area. parking easy access. pretty quiet. low key experience. near the train, and a short walk to BART.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

I stay here 2-3 times a year. I love it. Only place I stay in Oakland Close to SF. Ferry & Bart & Jack London Sq.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I love the walking proximity to Yoshi's and Jack London Square and the quiet, quiet of the room even though it is near train tracks! Personnel have always been nice and very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This was the best location. We were able to walk to our favorite food locations and to Yoshi's for a concert. Staff was pleasant and room was nice. I only had one complaint. The bath tub didn't look clean. Other than I loved it and and I would come back again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Relatively inexpensive, decent hotel in Oakland"
I stay over in Oakland regularly and like this hotel, which is a similar quality to but much less expensive than many of the hotels in Emeryville near 1-80. Also, this hotel is not in the middle of urban nowhere: it's close to Jack London Square, which has a lot of decent restaurants and other attractions. Downside is a lot of panhandlers in nearby […] streets. Upside is the next-door Buttery restaurant, which serves fabulous breakfasts, all day. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Overpriced Motel 6, but close to Jack London Sq."
...and they charge extra for parking. They either don't have enough parking, or they're also renting parking spaces to non-hotel guests. One of the weekend days, there weren't any spaces available. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was tiny and outdated (think Motel 6). Staff was helpful, but didn't smile very much. Pool was very nice. If it wasn't […] close to Jack London Square, I wouldn't have rated this high. I expected much better at their prices. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Always about the same."
We have stayed here when we attend the Strictly Sail boat show every year. Nothing much changes except the hotel is needing a remodel more and more. The one thing is the shower heads are not very adjustable and the water is like needles hitting your skin. Very uncomfortable. The attached restaurant is good. They never used to charge for parking but […] now they do. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worth 80/night, not 150"
The best part was that the bed was super comfy. Beyond that though, the facilities in general were oldish and skimpy. You have no wifi, had to pay extra for parking ($15/night), no breakfast included. The room had a slightly old chemical smell, it wasn't overpowering, but it wasn't pleasant either.Genuine Expedia guest review
I was very happy with the rate, location, and condition od the property. Would definitely stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Acceptable, clean, old"
Clean, a motel feel, old facility. Ok for short one night stay, otherwise not as business friendly for space or amenities. Hotel staff very friendly. Not the best location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Musty smellingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Had a few issues, but since it was for a business trip, it had what I absolutely needed - I felt safe, and there were no bugs. Other than that, it was relatively clean, except for the trash in the can in the room. Staff were nice, except for the fact it took awhile for them to find my reservation. Soundproofing between rooms was good, but not on the […] exterior walls (corridor and courtyard) so human traffic noise made it difficult to fall asleep. Pack earplugs, and ask for an upper floor. All that said, if I have another business trip in the area, I'd stay here again because it's half the price of the good hotels in the area, but definitely NOT a place I'd take my wife or recommend to family. Decent place, comfy bed, noisy train all night near by....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
If you have a rental car and end up in San Francisco on one of those days that every hotel is booked or too many of hundreds of dollars a night this is a inexpensive option across the Bay Bridge. "Comfortable hotel with distractions nearby."
Comfortable room. Jack London Square almost as soon as you walk out. There are a number of convenient restaurants ranging from Nations to Scott's. There are bars and clubs nearby too. Be prepared for trains. They come right down Embarcadero and you can hear them. However, they do stop at night. Something you do not see all the time, a mix of trains […] and cars sharing the street. Some may be concerned about this being in Oakland. But, it appears to be a safe area. iWalked from the BART station but there is also a free shuttle that runs most of the day and into the night from the downtown area to Jack London Square and the hotel. Not a luxury hotel but clean and comfortable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"It was great"
When I booked it i was worried by all the comments about the neighborhood, I got there and it was actually a really nice area, I walked around at night with absolutely no thought of problems. The hotel was quite nice, nothing I could complain about at all. The lighting system really could be updated to this century but it still did it's job. I will […] book this hotel again in the future. Good hotel if you want to stay in the middle of everything. The staff was very helpful. The maid chased me to the parking lot to return a charger I left behind! That was awesome! The room had been renovated and the bed was really comfortable. The shower was very small but did the job and the shampoo and soaps were great! . When I opened my curtain in […] the morning, there was a homeless person sleeping across the street. The room service came from the dinner right next door. "Nice and clean good service"
This hotel is really a good quality deal walking distance to jack London square you can go out and there's plenty of bars and don't even have to worry about driving it's a plus. Hotel was clean and the staff was nice and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
The check-in person (at night) was very rough, providing little service. However, the check-out person (at morning was very helpful and polite. The heater was louder than most when it would cycle on and off. The room was very clean and maintained.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall a decent stay in this hotel. The front desk clerk could have been a bit more friendly. Garage charge for hotel guests which wasn't in place for years gave me an impression of nickel and dime the hotel guests. A simple complimentary continental breakfast would have been a nice touch.Genuine Expedia guest review
"For the price, excellent hotel"
I'm giving it 4 plus stars not because it is on par with finer hotels but because the price makes it one of the better budget hotels around. Front desk very helpful, when I called about price of taxi to the Claremont hotel they called for me, got price and let me know I'd be better off driving, they were right but their follow through was much appreciated. Rooms […] are comfortable, bed very good. Some noise from room above but slept well anyway. Wifi on one of the days kept cutting out but was still able to get connection for most part. Parking on site in secure underground with keyed access for 15 bucks a day very good. Room clean, flat screen TV and easy access to freeways made this such a steal for just over 100 dollars per night. Ordered from nextdoor roomservice and the meal came quickly and as ordered, lovely chicken dinner. For those traveling on budget and don't want to spend upwards of 300 per night this is a very good option. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I would say that the photo does not correctly portray the hotel. The location isn't far from the nice part of downtown Oakland but is still in a sketchy location. The rooms are a little outdated and not too accommodating.Genuine Expedia guest review
Our stay at the Inn at Jack London Square was great. The front desk personnel were pleasant and helpful. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. It is within walking distance to Fox Theater, Last Chance Bar, and the Pacific Coast Brewery! We had such a great time that we would have booked another night if someone in our party didn't have […] to leave. It's an older hotel, but so is the whole city. "Don't Stay Here"
I travel all over the country for work and frequently book my hotels at hotels.com. I try to stay around or below the $150/night range and support local hotels/inns. I say this to underscore the fact that I've been at quite a few hotels. In all my years using hotels.com, I've never written a review until now, because the Inn at Jack London Square is […] one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed. In fact, I can't think of another hotel that was worse--especially given the price. If you do choose to stay at the Inn at Jack London Square, the first thing you'll notice is the outdated and depressing building--everything from the lobby to the rooms has been neglected for decades. Should you decide that appearances aren't that important to you and stay despite the initial impression, you will hear the blare of train horns as they pass throughout the day/evening/late night. I typically don't mind city noise, and understand it's inevitable. However, being woken up at 4 a.m. by a train is, to put it lightly, less than ideal. During the day, the hot water from the shower is wildly erratic; you just have to hope that it's working and that it doesn't go out on you during your shower. If you choose to stay in the hotel to do work or investigate the area, you're better off doing this off-line, since the wireless network is about as spotty as the hot water heater. Last, the website shows a picture of boats by the water, implying that this is the view from one of the rooms. It's not. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
