"Always about the same."
We have stayed here when we attend the Strictly Sail boat show every year. Nothing much changes except the hotel is needing a remodel more and more. The one thing is the shower heads are not very adjustable and the water is like needles hitting your skin. Very uncomfortable. The attached restaurant is good. They never used to charge for parking but […] now they do. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worth 80/night, not 150"
The best part was that the bed was super comfy. Beyond that though, the facilities in general were oldish and skimpy. You have no wifi, had to pay extra for parking ($15/night), no breakfast included. The room had a slightly old chemical smell, it wasn't overpowering, but it wasn't pleasant either.Genuine Expedia guest review
I was very happy with the rate, location, and condition od the property. Would definitely stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Acceptable, clean, old"
Clean, a motel feel, old facility. Ok for short one night stay, otherwise not as business friendly for space or amenities. Hotel staff very friendly. Not the best location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Musty smellingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Had a few issues, but since it was for a business trip, it had what I absolutely needed - I felt safe, and there were no bugs. Other than that, it was relatively clean, except for the trash in the can in the room. Staff were nice, except for the fact it took awhile for them to find my reservation. Soundproofing between rooms was good, but not on the […] exterior walls (corridor and courtyard) so human traffic noise made it difficult to fall asleep. Pack earplugs, and ask for an upper floor. All that said, if I have another business trip in the area, I'd stay here again because it's half the price of the good hotels in the area, but definitely NOT a place I'd take my wife or recommend to family. Decent place, comfy bed, noisy train all night near by....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
If you have a rental car and end up in San Francisco on one of those days that every hotel is booked or too many of hundreds of dollars a night this is a inexpensive option across the Bay Bridge. Don't expect luxury just a no-frills place to sleep. If you end up facing the courtyard it does feel a bit claustrophobic at first, but you get used to it […] . "Comfortable hotel with distractions nearby."
Comfortable room. Jack London Square almost as soon as you walk out. There are a number of convenient restaurants ranging from Nations to Scott's. There are bars and clubs nearby too. Be prepared for trains. They come right down Embarcadero and you can hear them. However, they do stop at night. Something you do not see all the time, a mix of trains […] and cars sharing the street. Some may be concerned about this being in Oakland. But, it appears to be a safe area. iWalked from the BART station but there is also a free shuttle that runs most of the day and into the night from the downtown area to Jack London Square and the hotel. Not a luxury hotel but clean and comfortable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"It was great"
When I booked it i was worried by all the comments about the neighborhood, I got there and it was actually a really nice area, I walked around at night with absolutely no thought of problems. The hotel was quite nice, nothing I could complain about at all. The lighting system really could be updated to this century but it still did it's job. I will […] book this hotel again in the future. Good hotel if you want to stay in the middle of everything. The staff was very helpful. The maid chased me to the parking lot to return a charger I left behind! That was awesome! The room had been renovated and the bed was really comfortable. The shower was very small but did the job and the shampoo and soaps were great! . When I opened my curtain in […] the morning, there was a homeless person sleeping across the street. The room service came from the dinner right next door. The food was really good but the waiters who delivered both dinner and breakfast seemed unhappy. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Average Hotel with too much noise"
The hotel itself is fine but its proximity to the nearby railway tracks and the constant trains made the outside noise generally unbearable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Its not what I'm used to staying in (4-5 star) however, its a nice place to stay at cheap price. Staff was excellent, room was comfortable, clean and walking distance to Jack London SquareGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice and clean good service"
This hotel is really a good quality deal walking distance to jack London square you can go out and there's plenty of bars and don't even have to worry about driving it's a plus. Hotel was clean and the staff was nice and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
The check-in person (at night) was very rough, providing little service. However, the check-out person (at morning was very helpful and polite. The heater was louder than most when it would cycle on and off. The room was very clean and maintained.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall a decent stay in this hotel. The front desk clerk could have been a bit more friendly. Garage charge for hotel guests which wasn't in place for years gave me an impression of nickel and dime the hotel guests. A simple complimentary continental breakfast would have been a nice touch.Genuine Expedia guest review
"For the price, excellent hotel"
I'm giving it 4 plus stars not because it is on par with finer hotels but because the price makes it one of the better budget hotels around. Front desk very helpful, when I called about price of taxi to the Claremont hotel they called for me, got price and let me know I'd be better off driving, they were right but their follow through was much appreciated. Rooms […] are comfortable, bed very good. Some noise from room above but slept well anyway. Wifi on one of the days kept cutting out but was still able to get connection for most part. Parking on site in secure underground with keyed access for 15 bucks a day very good. Room clean, flat screen TV and easy access to freeways made this such a steal for just over 100 dollars per night. Ordered from nextdoor roomservice and the meal came quickly and as ordered, lovely chicken dinner. For those traveling on budget and don't want to spend upwards of 300 per night this is a very good option. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I would say that the photo does not correctly portray the hotel. The location isn't far from the nice part of downtown Oakland but is still in a sketchy location. The rooms are a little outdated and not too accommodating.Genuine Expedia guest review
Our stay at the Inn at Jack London Square was great. The front desk personnel were pleasant and helpful. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. It is within walking distance to Fox Theater, Last Chance Bar, and the Pacific Coast Brewery! We had such a great time that we would have booked another night if someone in our party didn't have […] to leave. It's an older hotel, but so is the whole city. It's got cable, Wi-Fi, a pool, and a parking garage. A place for a good night rest after adventuring all day! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't Stay Here"
I travel all over the country for work and frequently book my hotels at hotels.com. I try to stay around or below the $150/night range and support local hotels/inns. I say this to underscore the fact that I've been at quite a few hotels. In all my years using hotels.com, I've never written a review until now, because the Inn at Jack London Square is […] one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed. In fact, I can't think of another hotel that was worse--especially given the price. If you do choose to stay at the Inn at Jack London Square, the first thing you'll notice is the outdated and depressing building--everything from the lobby to the rooms has been neglected for decades. Should you decide that appearances aren't that important to you and stay despite the initial impression, you will hear the blare of train horns as they pass throughout the day/evening/late night. I typically don't mind city noise, and understand it's inevitable. However, being woken up at 4 a.m. by a train is, to put it lightly, less than ideal. During the day, the hot water from the shower is wildly erratic; you just have to hope that it's working and that it doesn't go out on you during your shower. If you choose to stay in the hotel to do work or investigate the area, you're better off doing this off-line, since the wireless network is about as spotty as the hot water heater. Last, the website shows a picture of boats by the water, implying that this is the view from one of the rooms. It's not. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Price not equal to value"
Right off the bat, because I was booking for New Year's Eve night I knew I was going to be paying more, and after arriving, I found they were charging $30 more. So non NYE I think $130 is overpriced for the single bed room with no breakfast included even though they have a pool and small gym. The décor is modern and but the craftsmanship of their remodeling […] was mediocre. Room was clean, had tv, power strip to plug your electronics into, pad and pen(a rarity). Convenient to BART, a six block walk, close to pier and Chinatown. I didn't find the train whistle as bad as other reviewed for a 3rd fl. non pool room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Inn at Jack London Square, Oakland CA"
This reasonably-priced hotel is located close to the waterfront and the ferry terminal, about six blocks from the Oakland Amtrak Station, and about 12 blocks from the nearest Bart station. First impressions, based on the small lobby and minimal reception staff, inspired wariness. But the rooms are extremely well presented, clean, private and comfortable. […] The attached restaurant, The Buttercup Grill, opens for breakfast at 6 am, and its service and food suited this reviewer just fine. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel needs work"
The location was good although the pictures on the website were misleading. They posted a picture of boats on the water as if this was something you could see from the hotel. In fact the waterfront is two blocks away. The shower had little hot water and the outlets in the room were either not screwed into the wall or would have trouble holding the plugs […] securely. "decent, clean, no-frills, friendly staff"
i live in Oakland and rented a hotel for NYE. The Inn was perfect for what i envisioned. the room was clean and nice, with wi-fi, and plenty of outlets. No real amenities but that's ok. "Never to Return"
The front desk staff were nice. For some reason my reservation was for (2) rooms. Once that got cleared up, I was told to call Hotels.com. I did not wish to spend time on my vacation doing that. The bed was so old and SOFT that I woke up with a sore back. The shower door was Off the Track too. What bothered me most was the $2.00 charge for water and […] the $5.00 charge for using a computer for twenty minutes. Neither of which did I opt for. Add the $15.00 parking and other normarlly free amenities, this was no kind of a deal! The elevator had a "push to open door" and that made it a little difficult to transport my suitcase. "The Inn was merely adequate"
The front desk help/staff were nice, but for some reason had me reserved for (2) rooms. They told me to call hotels.com. I did not come there to deal with this error. The worst feature of the hotel was the awful bed. It was akin to sleeping in quicksand. By the time you pay for parking and if you opted to use the bottles of water or computer (which […] is usually free at most spots) you are paying premium prices to be in this subpar place. Cheap. No charm.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I've stayed at this hotel in the past. It is close to where a relative lives, so I use to visit the Bay area. The room was comfortable enough--certainly not elegant, but for about a hundred dollars a night, it is within range of what other hotels in the area charge. There are a number of pan-handlers in the area (one day I was approached eight times […] between the nearest BART station (City Center). Staff personnel were friendly and helpful. "Not a fan"
The lady to the front desk was irritable, rude, and very unwelcoming. I walked in and she said "yeah". Never smiled even once. The hotel is a little dated but acceptable. Could have spent a little more on the one piece, uneven floored shower!! Don't get the "City View" - that means overlooking the street and the traffic noise. Very convenient to JL Square and easy walk to BART.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
