"Wonderfully close to waterfront"
Loved being able to walk to Jack London Square with the beautiful waterfront and restaurants. Great area to walk around. Loved the patio and pool.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean & Convenient Oakland Location"
Older hotel, recently renovated, that maintains fairly high standard of cleanliness and maintenance. Immediate neighborhood is a little downtrodden, but only a few blocks to Jack London Square on the Oakland waterfront and downtown Oakland restaurants and other attractions. About 6 easy blocks from BART subway and Oakland downtown circulator bus is […] right at the door. For a very reasonable price, this is a good choice for Oakland visitors--unless you're expecting the Four Seasons! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Step Back in Time or Retro Inn"
Maid staff and Front Desk personnel were top notch and genuinely friendly. No handicap rails or handgrips in shower. Any problems were handled in a timely and satisfactory manner. We will stay here again , nice waterfront area within walking distanceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The warmest staff we have ever encountered. The hotel was clean and we liked having a restaurant connected to the hotel for quick meals.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Weekend with friends"
Not much to do around the hotel, but have good options to dine at or have some drinks. Great quiet place to stay if you wanna visit fisherman's wharf about a 30 min ferry ride away. Hotel close to ferry and Amtrak station. Well stay again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Old fashioned outdoor access motel. Urban location. In house restaurant pretty sketchy. Lousy food. Maybe 2 stars.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, nice pool, motel 6 room"
room was clean, quiet, looked onto the pool, but felt I was in a budget motel 6 facility....just tired, conventional and mediocre for the room rate.Genuine Expedia guest review
This is a convenient location but hardly worth the price. The room was crowded. The decor is dated. The window unit air conditioner was noisy. Every room overlooks the "courtyard" which is a gathering spot for guests and groups as they arrive. If you want quiet during the afternoon or evening forget it. The bathroom was the size of a closet. Barely […] room to turn around. No hair dryer or other amenities usually found in hotels.Tiny shower stall (no tub), butts right up to toilet. Took an age for water to heat up. Outlets (for computer and re-chargers) were near the baseboard. Room lighting was terrible. No fridge. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This is a perfect place to stay when you want to sleep after the Jazz concert at Yoshi's. Jack London square is beautiful for a walk around ... lots of new shops and restaurants.. and pretty boats all tied up. It's an old-style hotel with nice linens and enough space. A bit pricey, howeverGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Many restaurants, downtown and art galleries walka"
The hotel is conveniently located. It's 2 floors make in and out very easy and the staff went out of their way to answer our questions and give directions. The attached coffee shop has great food, reasonable prices and very friendly employees. Although our room was spacious and clean, there were a few touches that showed either age or lack of attention […] to detail (example- significant chips in the wood door inside the bathroom). If they had been attended to, the impression would be better and rating would be 4.5 Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Central Location"
Very nice stay. Centrally located so many great restaurants nearby. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Near the train station however I heard very little noise. Nice pool area located in the center of the of the hotel. My wife and I felt very safe at this hotel and highly recommend the property.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"In Oakland for the night"
We had ants in our room. Dingy sheets. Not a good experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
"No. Just... no."
Awful. The bed had ants. Do I need to say more? OK. The neighborhood is borderline slum: strip clubs, graffiti, abandoned buildings, homeless sleeping in doorways, urine smell. Just awful. Do not go out at night. Adjacent to railroad tracks -- train blowing its horn every night at midnight and every morning at 6. Hotel itself was kind of shabby. I know […] it's cheap (for the Bay Area), but it is not worth the price. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel needs updating. The shower didn't work properly. Coffee marker was old and falling apart . The hair dryer didn't work. The hotel over charged on parking. I would say the only part that made the stay bearable we're the friendly maids.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"OAKLAND JACK LONDON SQUARE"
Great location ... easy access to BART, San Francisco Ferry, great restaurants and Jack London Square. We are glad we stayed here!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Terrible Wifi. Location is great, but that's it."
Let's start with the positives first. It's close to a lot of great restaurants and in walking distance to the water. The staff were generally very nice. Negatives: The room initially smelled like strong cleaning solution that irritated our eyes and nose. When we aired it out, it smelled badly of cigarettes. I absolutely despise the smell of cigarettes. […] The shower doesn't work well. The faucet doesn't turn off when you turn on the shower so you feel like you are wasting gallons of water per minute. My door key card didn't work. Would not recommend this place at all. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Don't let the surroundings mislead you"
Make sure you are checking into the Inn at Jack London Square (a little set back) and not Jack London Inn, not an attractive place. At first glance this hotel does not look very nice and parking is a problem (garage full and small outdoor parking shared with a restaurant) but quiet, nice staff, interior has a small but nice swimming pool.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location - Close to Yoshi's & Jack London Sq"
Room was great and very comfortable, including the king size bed. The rubber plug for the bathtub had seen better days --- chipped edges and looked moldy. Also had problems with the TV in the room - appeared to be something wrong with the feed as it kept fading in and out. Pleasant Front Desk staff that we dealt with both at check-in and out. Liked […] the gated underground parking; for an extra $15 it was definitely worth it. Friends ate breakfast at the adjacent restaurant and said it was a good. If the small things mentioned were fixed, I'd definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean and inexpensive but sketchy neighborhood"
The hotel is very old but in good condition. The courtyard / pool area was clean and nicely landscaped. Our room had the typical old fashioned layout with an external entry door and window on one wall and the bathroom on the far wall, with only toilet and tub behind closed door. No place to sit beside the beds and two uncomfortable side chairs. I don't […] personally like this layout but the room was OK for the price. I would not stay here again because I did not like the neighborhood but for a hotel in Jack London Square it is a good deal. We were not disturbed by train noise at all. We actually arrived by train and walked to the hotel. Also walked to Bart, ferry, and Jack London Square. All very convenient but I felt unsafe walking and would not do so in this neighborhood after 10pm. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Mid Century Chic - 21st Century Comfort"
Aside from a very convenient location, aside from very comfortable beds and pillows and a spacious room, this hotel is simply mid-century cool. I kept thinking I'd see a satellite clock on the wall. This two-story 1950s hotel wraps around a large courtyard with pool, shutting out downtown Oakland while providing privacy and security. Some cool restaurants […] are close by, including, get this, a vegetarian soul-food place across the street. A two block walk gets you to the waterfront, and a six block walk gets you to downtown Oakland. Although this hotel is obviously mid-century - it is also in excellent condition and well kept, with modern amenities. By the way, front desk staff were very nice and helpful. Can't say enough about this place. Personally prefer it over more expensive five star venues. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
A gem and surprise. From the outside you aren't sure what to expect and then when you enter the courtyard pleasantly surprised with a well groomed pool and patio area. You wouldn't know that you were in downtown Oakland. You will enjoy your stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel close to Yoshi's"
This is my second stay at the Inn at Jack London Square. It is right across the street from Yoshi's Jazz club, so when I drive up from Southern California for a show, I stay there. I like everything about the hotel in addition to the convenience. The Buttercup Grill right next door is a great place for breakfast too.Genuine Expedia guest review
"In the light of day, the place wasn't awful!"
I got into Oakland after sun-down and the place is not in a great neighborhood. I know it is Oakland, but the "Secrets" nightclub in the next block was not what I imagined when I read the reviews. The train that runs through town, whistle sounding, is astonishingly right on time . . . every 20 minutes.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overnight in Jack London Square"

"Great Hotel Staff, Location and Rooms"
This is our second stay at hotel, the location is perfect for Ferry and Jack London. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel staff is really the best part of stay, everyone is helpful and nice. I'd like to especially comment on the young lady who was working the evening Saturday shift, we had an incident and needed some emergency help; she stepped […] in and helped us out. Then also had folks come to room to help with some addtional cleaning etc. I can't thank her enough for all her support:) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great pool and outdoor patio. Rooms very dated; halls very dated; staff very niceGenuine Expedia guest review
"Like visiting family away from home"
Omar and everyone there are genuinely nice people. You can tell the employees are happy and really enjoy their job, because they greet you with a smile, where ever you see them. Housekeeping employees are nice and the rooms are exceptionally clean. The breakfast is wonderful. Most of all we felt safe there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel and room had a odor that was very unpleasant. It comes from the dirty filters in the ac. We kept the doors open to get fresh air. The beds slept very good. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The colors and decorating could be updated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Find in Downtown Oakland"
This is a very nice hotel. Easy to get to, beautiful room, very friendly staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not quite 3-star experience"
This is not a 3-star hotel. Bathroom was very basic and very small. Very old elevator that eventually was out of operation for maintenance. Front desk staff were very nice. Location in Jack London Square is its biggest draw.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old school charm & a really nice staff"
First, if you want new & up to the minute-- this hotel is NOT for you but if you like simple and old school-- this is a great place to stay. We have stayed at The Inn a few times and pick it mainly because it is near our son's house and it has a great pool that our g'kids love. The rooms are basic- no frills but nice and clean, the lobby is tiny but […] there is a nice business area and work out room. Parking is secure and there is room service from the cafe next door. Movie theater around the corner, Jack London Square a block away-- great restaurants in Oakland... we will stay here again and will ask for the rooms with a balcony-- they are our favorite. "Great location, friendly staff"
I loved this location, very close to Jack London Square, and all of the staff were friendly and helpful and room was fine. Elevator is older and quaint. I did hear the train from my room and also had one light bulb burned out in the bathroom, but everything else was great.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Well-situated, but basically like an old motel"
Stay was Ok, but noise and light came through adjoining room door. Arranged like a motel with outside corridor with people walking by the window, except that instead of parking you looked at a nice pool. Pool area was arranged nicely. Room overly "perfumed" on arrival, but they did let us check in early so we could then walk the short distance to Jack […] London square. Bottled water in the room was $3. "Near the water front & fine waterfront restaurants"
The Buttercup is a wonderful family run restaurants attached to hotel serving wonderful breakfast items. Beware The Inn charges $2.75 per small bottle of water. The beds were really comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel staff person that checked us in was very nice, friendly, and accommodating. All in all for a one night stay it was a good one night stay and will definitely be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bar exam--loud train"
I stayed here to take the July Bar Exam. According to the woman at the front desk a lot of applicants stay there. If you are a future Bar Exam taker reading this review be aware that the train runs very near this hotel. The whistle was very loud inside the rooms, and a train would go by at least once an hour. I think under other circumstances (not the […] bar) the train noise would not have been so bad, but when you are already having trouble getting to sleep because of the test the last thing you want is a super loud train whistle waking you up all night. I have no complaints with the hotel, rooms, staff, or service. Everyone seemed nice and professional, and the m Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Inn at Jack London Square"
I stayed here for the bar exam. My room was facing the courtyard. Overall, I had a pleasant stay - my room was clean, cozy, quiet, and comfortable, and the staff was very helpful in helping me navigate my way around to and from the test cite. Price is pretty good for the area. This hotel is not to be confused with the Jack London Inn. I've noticed […] quite a few reviews elsewhere mixing up the two. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"If you don't mind the train noise"
Nothing to complain about the room itself. BUT the train noise is terrible and every train blows steam whistle throughout the night! The railway is so close to it.Genuine Expedia guest review

"A good Oakland location."
The rooms were very clean and maid service was excellent. The accomodations were a little old but still nice. The service personel were excellent.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Enjoyed my stay here! The room was clean. Hotel staff was great and very helpful in letting us know about things to do and places to eat in the area. The location was perfect!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Looked better in the pictures"
Room decor a little dated, tiny bathroom, rooms a little noisy - overall just fine, but the hotel looked a lot nicer in the pictures than it did in reality.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"a pleasant surprise"
i was a little hesitant about staying here but it turned out to be a really great experience. pleasant staff, friendly service, and a good/standard room. if you want to save a few dollars, you can find affordable parking on the street. overall, it was a great experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nothing like the pictures!"
Pros - Location was close to Jack London square though there seemed to be many homeless loiterers in the neighborhood. Towels in the bathroom were nice. There was a sink in the bathroom and a sink outside the bathroom which can be handy for families. Cons - hotel room was very grungy and outdated, especially the bathroom. Not sure if the room wasn't […] the cleanest or if it was just grungy. The lights in the room were all fairly dark. Off-brand amenities in the bathroom. Half of the rooms have their doors leading directly to the outside, kind of like a motel. The other half have an exterior door facing the pool courtyard. Many channels had a bad satellite signal so were pixelated. Parking is an extra $15 per day. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Inexpensive at Jack London Square"
Place was OK for rock concert at the Fox Theater. Needed cab ride. Two blocks to Jack London Square.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very convenient for purpose of my trip."
My expectations were not high, but I was pleasantly surprised by the order and cleanliness of the hotel. The pool area was clean and attractive as well. Only criticism would be the cooler functionality - had to turn it down to 60 degrees to get any cooling. Not a big deal once figured out. Also, for the cost of the room, parking should have been included. […] The charge was a nominal $15, but free parking would have added perceived value. Also there is no place to pull up to check in. The outside parking lot was consistently full, and there are no signs directing customers where to park to check in. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Was sorely disappointed upon arrival."
This hotel looked nothing like the pretty pictures we saw online. I felt like we were staying in the middle of the ghetto. On top of the overpriced room, they charged 15 dollars per night for parking underground, where my car got stained in several areas by leaky plumbing with calcium deposits!Genuine Expedia guest review
Fantastic location. Super comfortable bed. Secure parking.Genuine Expedia guest review
