The Beach Retreat & Lodge at Tahoe - South Lake Tahoe

My husband and I booked this hotel last minute when we decided to extend our vacation a little. The room was very nice and had a great lake view. The only complaint I have is that the room came with a fireplace and it didn't work. This definitely didn't make it or break it for us but It would have been nice to have used it.

I loved this hotel! I would totally stay there again! They also offered me a room upgrade right on the water for just a little more money! You are really located right on the water near the pier!! It was an incredible view in a great location with several restaraunts and stores near by!!!!

Stayed here on a weekend. Location next to the lake helps. You can have the margarita in the restaurant on the lake closeby and just walk by to your room. Close to the stateline as well. One thing to note is that I took the king lake view room. Although, I could see the lake at an angle, it wasn't directly in front of me. Practice swing fail: The map to get to your room is not correct. Who gives out a printed map without the correct room numbers? Why not re-print it. Strike 1: We purchased a lake view room. Watch out, that lake view is a tiny one. Strike 2: Disappointment in the amenities especially the awful lighting inside the room. Who puts the cheapest lights you […] can buy in a hotel room? Cheapo fluorescents that give the bright blue hue were in every light fixture except the fake heater lamp flood in the bathroom. Strike 3: Aside from the small room, tiny TV, and the worst lighting we've ever seen, it was the gas station bathroom feel that stood out. From the fake heater lamp with the countdown timer, to the Georgia Pacific high capacity toilet paper roll holder to the Georgia Pacific hand pump soap dispenser mounted in the shower labeled with a P-Touch as Hair & Body Wash, it felt like the mini-mart up the street. Strike 4+: The slider window, tables and side tables were littered with hand smears. No fridge for drinks, only two towels, and keys that kept failing. I don't anticipate us staying there again. Both my wife and I wish they would have allowed a refund for the second night because we would have been out of there. Though upset at the room initially, we made up for it by staying out late, eating well, enjoying the town and each other. The key here is to enjoy life. Don't let the small stuff get to you. We had a nice time, even though it was just one night. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the room. I only had one interaction with the staff (at check-in), but it was a pleasant one. We paid the extra for the lake view room, and we could see the lake from our back patio door, although there were trees and another building blocking most of it […] from view. We had a pleasant stay. It was worth the price to upgrade to a lake view room. The beach and pier are lovely. However, service and cleanliness were lacking. The front desk did not greet us immediately because he was talking to a co-worker about organizing a fantasy baseball team. Stayed for 1 night in between 2 days of skiing. While the class of this hotel is 2.5 stars, in my experience it definitely beats out by mile other "higher class" hotels in the area. Friendly service, clean and comfortable rooms and great location.

When we walked into our room, there was a huge clean king bed and a stunning view of the lake outside of our window and balcony. There was also a fireplace. We gave this place a try even though the nearby Inn by the lake was great for us last time. This place did make us regret a little. Something was wrong about the mattress and pillows it was just very hard to get any sleep. The room heater was old and noisy so we decided to switch it off and use the extra blanket only to realize all the blankets together […] were still very thin leaving us cold. Whats the point of providing an extra blanket which is as thin as a bedsheet. The Hot tub/Jaccuzzi was great though. It has very good pressure compared to other Jacuzzi of similar size, I think even the one at the Inn by the lake was pretty weak in pressure compare to this one. Also Jacuzzi is well covered from all sides making it much better for cold season compared to the open ones. The room are pretty small and basic, bathroom too are small in size. The photos on Hotels.com include those of the beach and restaurant and bar neary by which probably isn't right thing to do. Hotel location is pretty good it takes around 40 minutes to reach Diamond peak resort, 1 hr to reach Kirkwood. Nevada stateline is very close (less than 2 miles) so you can also go to casinos easily. The Beach was a convenient place to stay in the winter... close to Safeway, the Heavenly Gondola (driving, not walking), and convenient to access from our drive in. I'd like to try the place again in the summer... the beach and pier look like fun.

The hotel is ok for the price paid, always expensive in the winters. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The building is all wood and doesn't seem very firm, but maybe it's just an impression. Service was good, both in the hotel and in the restaurants.

My only negative about staying here was they didn't have a real comforter on the bed just a little decorative half one and sheets and one blanket. The room was way too small; the location is probably good for summer, but no benefits for the winter. Apparently the fire alarm is triggered when you take bath and do not close the doors. This place was perfect. We stayed over President's Day weekend so paid a little more than you would normally, but that was perfectly fine and understandable. The room had its own fireplace and balcony. The bathroom was a little tight, but we had everything we needed. I also like how there is a bar/restaurant in the main lobby area although we never […] went. However, there was also a nice little restaurant a few steps away along the water. This is our go-to hotel for South shore when we bring our dogs. They always put us on the first floor and there is a sliding door out to the grassy area in stead of heading out the main door to the normal parking lot. Beds are pretty comfy and it is a minute walk to the beach.

The first room we were given smelled like cigarettes. We called the front desk and they gave us another room in 15 minutes. I thought that was great. Room was clean, fireplace, great shower. It is just a mile from the casinos and right on the lake. I would totally stay there again.

room location was good, but they didn't replenish supplies at all on the second day and when we called reception desk, they didn't send anyone to fix the issue, instead asked us to come to reception to get the supplies.

Our two double bed room was just big enough to hold the beds and a small table. The gas fireplace was nice but the rest of the accommodations felt cheap and somewhat old. Also, our Lake view room was behind another building and barely had a view. I'd probably pay a little more and choose someplace else next time if I had the choice.
