Stay was excellent. Clean hotel. Courteous staff. Excellent spa services. Went off season so it was very quiet. Would not recommend for younger children.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Hits and Misses"
Beautiful old hotel. Check-in not especially friendly. Room we had was looking over the boiler area with steam and lots of noise, but loved the bathroom's heated floors. Bar/lounge very comfortable and dinner in the main dining room was excellent with great service. Lovely indoor pool...my favorite part of the hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
We had a wonderful time. The hotel was beautiful, the staff very helpful and the food excellent. Within 30 miles there was the town of Portsmouth,NH; Kittery, York, Ogonquit and Kennebunkport,Maine, all of which had shopping, sightseeing and great restaurants. I would highly recommend it for terrific getaway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We only stayed at the Wentworth for one night. Despite our short stay, our children used the indoor pool, we explored the gardens, and we had breakfast in the property's restaurant. Our children loved the pool, and we all wished we had the time to enjoy the outdoor pool. The gardens were beautiful as confirmed by the many people taking photos there. […] The breakfast was very good; the servers were exceptionally kind. The hotel is very close to Portsmouth and not too far from Hampton Beach to enjoy it as well. We very much enjoyed our stay. Great spot. Loved the accomodations. Had a small issue with the pine sap from one gazebo bench ruining my wife's dress. Staff didn't seem to care much. Otherwise this was a great stay.Genuine Expedia guest review

overall outstanding. Had a small but very charming room. I suspect all have a great view. Wonderful landscaping. Food above average but not great. Service was outstanding, all staff was friendly, courteous, and obviously well trained. Would go back in a heart beat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely historical hotel..."
The hotel is lovely; very elegant and welcoming! The views are spectacular and I'm sure even better in the nicer weather. For a historical hotel, the amenities were wonderful - we loved the indoor pool and spa on a blustery day! The dining experience was wonderful and very accomodating for someone with food tolerance issues. We would stay again for […] sure! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Wentworth by the Sea stay"
Very pleasant midweek stay. Quiet and good wintertime amenities. The spa was the highlight.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Hotel... rude lady at the spa"
Only gripe was the spa, I was in town on business and went and nicely asked if their were any spa appointments left that night to get a massage and the lady looked at me like I had just asked her to fund my child's future education... she was really rude... a simple "sorry, nothing left" would have sufficed, thanks. Other than that my room was fantastic, […] the lady at the front desk was very nice and gave me directions for an entertaining evening jog when I couldn't get a massage so it all worked out. "Best of the best"
Zum Ausklang unserer New England Reise waren wir 4 Nächte im Wentworth by the Sea.
"A little pricey"
As part of our 10 day road trip to New England we decided to find somewhere that had great facilities and a swimming pool! We stayed at the hotel for just one night having booked it the night before. The hotel is a gorgeous resort but only staying the one night and the cost of the room and dinner at $800.00 and some, seemed extremely steep!! The room was very comfortable even though there was only a shower in the bathroom and no tub - The main reception were very helpful trying to move us to a bath & shower room, but the views were not as nice. Make sure you have a room overlooking the harbour - absolutely lovely. The bar was fun - excellent cocktails and dinner was very nice too. Would I recommend it - probably for a longer holiday and making sure that you book it as a package and not just on impulse!!
"Perfect 4th of July!"
07/08/14 Susan G Healdsburg, California
Living in Northern California, but growing up in the east coast, needing a get away just before the 4th of July. You all know the last minute I need a get away, and its the east coast, so you go to the Cape, Nantucket, the Hampton's read nothing but $$ signs. So I as a teenager I worked in Rye, NY and typed that in my search, and lo and behold an hotel that I knew then came up, the Wentworth by the Sea, it was still around! Got a great rate of $430.00 for a room with 2 queens, called a friend and off we went, one hour from Boston. Such a surprise to learn as we arrived at this hotel had been renovated to its full glory. Well done Marriott! This was my first real taste of the investment of the Marriott chain does with the employees (I asked, because I was so impressed with the wait staff, massage therapist, concierge, valet guy...this chain (sorry don't mean to be negative) takes time to train everyone in service, I am now a Marriott cheerleader! And the restaurants were fabulous, you never have to leave the hotel. When we arrived on the 4th of July, Arthur had arrived and the rain, and the wind was incredible. We are sitting in the restaurant Salt, the best design space for a restaurant that sits over 100+ comfortable chairs, after the best massage (ask for Nicole), a vodka drink (great bartender), and a menu that suits every taste (albeit no steamed fresh lobster, only negative), was totally satisfied. This is such an old school, need a get away, but don't want to drive more than 15 minutes for a lunch, I love this hotel and am making plans to visit this fall, when the trees will be in full color and the indoor pool and Nicole (massage therapist) will be in the house. This hotel reminds me of old school Europe that understands the " I need a get a way..."
"Poolside service is a one star"

Beautiful location and resort but every time we've been to the pool the service has been poor. No one waits on you, you must go to the bar and order yourself. The only exception so far has been Andrew. He's the only one who seems to understand service. The others stand around and chat with each other around the bar.
"Top quality hotel, location, facilities"
07/07/14 Paul H Reading, United Kingdom
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights leading up to 4th July holiday. The location is fantastic for exploring New Hampshire, Portsmouth in particular. The hotel is extremely clean and well presented, a real step back in time. We were originally allocated a room on the 2nd floor. The room itself was large and very well furnished, but it looked out over the tennis court at the end of the building. So, I asked if we could move to a room that overlooked the harbour, which reception did immediately for us. We had fantastic weather all 3 days, and spent the time by the outdoor pool. The pool bar was fantastic, the staff very helpful and the prices very reasonable, $5 for a beer, $9-11 for a cocktail. We had the breakfast buffet each morning, and sat out on the veranda at the back of the hotel, which was very pleasant. The restaurant staff were really friendly and provide fantastic service. The quality of the breakfast buffet was really high. The prices for the hotel vary a lot, ranging from $239 a night to $529 a night for the same room, so be very careful about which dates you choose, unless you have very fixed dates that you want to stay. We were originally going to stay on the Friday night of 4th July at a rate of $529, but when I checked, just out of curiosity, on 4th July morning, they had slashed the prices to $289 for that night. We will be going back to this hotel, it's very relaxing, comfortable, and like stepping back in time.
"Decided not to stay"

I am a Marriott/ Ritz Carlton Gold Member and we were going to stay at Wentworth by the Sea but after touring even their best rooms, it felt tired. We did try many of the appetizer on the menu, though, and those were quite good and the tall tables in the lounge area are quite nice and the are large and inviting.
"Picture Perfect Weekend"

First trip to Wentworth by the Sea but hopefully not our last. We had a king size bed with a harbor view. The room was a nice size with a comfy bed and large tiled bathroom with a roomy shower. One thing to note is that this is a family friendly resort and the noise outside your room can be a bit noisy at times but everything quiets down by early evening. We took the time to explore the grounds and I took lots of pictures of the gardens which were beautiful. There are two pools to choose from, with staff that will make sure you have towels and an umbrella if you want one. The pool-side bar has comfortable seating and a great view of the harbor. They have a nice specialty drink menu and the prices are reasonable for a resort. We dined at Latitudes so we could continue to enjoy the harbor view. There is indoor and outdoor seating, it is first come first serve but if you are staying at the hotel you call ahead and they will try to accommodate you. We had no problem getting right in. Everything we ate was delicious. I had the crab cake appetizer and the lobster roll. I have had my share of lobster rolls and I have to say it was one of the best I've ever eaten, must have been the homemade, butter roll. My husband had the petit fillet mignon and lobster tail, the steak melted in your mouth. For desert we shared the cheese cake which was creamy and delicious. The resort also has an indoor pool, large workout area and a spa. My husband went golfing one of the days we stayed (the Wentworth golf course is within walking distance and the Portsmouth Country Club is 10 minutes away) and I had an 80 minute hot stone massage. Dee, my masseuse, was fantastic; this was the best massage I have had. I have nothing but great things to say about the resort, plus it is within walking distance (1.25 miles) to a sandy beach and 10 minutes from Portsmouth. We hope to return soon.
"Great classic in a sleepy seaside town"
06/30/14 Beavis007 Grand Junction, Colorado
My wife and I had the pleasure of spending nearly a week at the Wentworth for our honeymoon. We stumbled on this gem just surfing around the internet, and it was a great spot to set up home. Learning more about the property was interesting, and we got a great history lesson from one of the boat cruises in Portsmouth that went by the hotel. Having notated on the reservation that we were on our honeymoon, the desk presented us with a card and candy upon check in. It was a nice surprise. Paying $20 for an upgrade to see the water was well worth it, just to open the sliding door and smell the sea air and watch the tide drift in and out. I just wish the balcony was larger to accommodate a chair to sit and drink morning coffee. The concierge lounge was great, and the evening concierge was wonderful. There were two different morning concierges, but both were eager to ensure the breakfast was stocked. One morning, we had the pleasure of speaking with Lenroy the restaurant manager. He was speaking to guests in the lounge, and offered up some nice suggestions for us to visit while in town. They were appreciated since weather had spoiled some of our plans. We had dinner in Salt, and it definitely is a nice place. Nice menu, and extensive wine list. However, it didn't feel crisp. We had an 8pm reservation, and while there were still tables dining, the staff was flipping the restaurant tables around us to breakfast and removing the white linens. It felt like there was a rush to get out, and both of us felt it detracted from the ambiance of the restaurant. Our server brought our cheese tray appetizer, but didn't explain which type was which, or make suggestions on pairings (we re-ordered the tray the next night in the bar, and our server was superb at walking us through the same tray...). For such a wonderful hotel, it just felt a little lacking in the restaurant department. The room was great - the bed was very comfortable, and the noise from the pipes can be forgiven due to the age of the hotel. The pool area was great, and staff was pretty on the spot for taking drink orders. Our lunch was tasty as well. We used Valet on the first night since we arrived late, but hadn't really planned on using it until we saw on our bill they were charging us for it despite not having our keys. It wasn't worth the discussion and we just let them valet the car from then on. At times when we'd arrive in the morning, we felt like we were interrupting the bellmen and concierge having discussions to get our car... All in all, we did enjoy our stay with the Wentworth. It was a great honeymoon area, with plenty to see around the Portsmouth and Kittery, Maine area. We are excited to have a great hotel to come back and celebrate anniversaries with.
"The Grand Old Hotel of your Dreams"

We have been here many times over the years as it is close for us, yet you feel worlds away. The Wentworth is like an elegant cruise ship rising from the peninsula, surrounded by water views and not much else. Yet it is only 10-15 minutes from fun downtown Portsmouth. The outdoor pool area is quiet, beautiful and has been redone this year, featuring better marina patio views and cozy seating areas and a firepit by the bar. The outdoor hot tub is wonderful and the pool usually warm. We always love watching the bridal parties take photos in the beautiful garden areas, as the ballrooms and porches are weekend hot spots for weddings. The Wenthworth's main dining area still has the most reasonable breakfast buffet around! Indoor pool, hot tub and outdoor deck hot tub for rainy days or evenings. Marina restaurant Latitudes a nice place to eat outdoors. The rooms are all different here, but beds super comfy and décor lovely. Just one of our favorite hotels anywhere, far and wide!!
"A few bumps to start but an excellent place to stay"

We have stayed at this property several times, usually to celebrate a special occasion. We reserved a suite as we usually do. When we went to our suite and when we unlocked the door it sems as though the security lock that you flip was engaged. As it turns out there was a second door that was accessible. Seems as though housekeeping should have taken care of that detail. Additionally there was a step between the two rooms but there was no caution sign or warning about it and both my wife and I nearly fell a few times until we became used to the fact that there was a step there. Without exception all staff that we encountered in the restaurands and front desk were welcoming and firendly.

On our way up the East Coast we stayed here one night in early June. The hotel is huge. The restoration done on it is simply beautiful. Our room was nice, very comfortable bed, and roomy. Breakfast was delicious and the staff pleasant. This was not our destination as we were traveling North to Acadia National Park but we would stay here again. Worth the price
