"Bad Start Better Ending"
We had to wait over 4 hours for our room when checking in. That was totally unacceptable. We did however have an end room with a huge balcony. After the initial disappointment things went much more smoothly. We love the location in Our Lucaya. Everything we wanted was within a 5 minute walk, all the shops in the strawmarket, the more upscale shops, […] resturants and entertainment in the Lucaya Market Place. I really like the UNEXSO dive shop being so close. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Grand Lucayan Hi Michael, Thanks for taking the time to rate us on Expedia! First off, I'm so sorry that you experienced a long wait at check in but I'm pleased to hear you loved oner room with the large balcony. I'm glad you had a great time exploring the island too! We hope you can visit us again sometime! - Pedro Miller, Director of Guest Services
"Nice hotel close to beach, restaurants, shopping"
Pleasant and relaxing. Forbes tour not too good. Driver spent too much time at stops and took an hour longer than planned with no good food options.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good resort conveniently located on the island."
Planned on spending five days which turned into seven due to a rare snow storm in the southeast. It was nice having all the amenities of the resort available to us as well as the Lucayan Market and Marina just across the street where we ate most of our meals at a reasonable vacation price. The resort property was very well maintained and all the staff […] were extremely friendly and helpful during our stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"NO heated pools"
Although I was pleased with my experience at the Grand Lucayan, I was terribly disappointed to find not even one pool was heated! I flew down from New York in January to swim and enjoy the sun. The temperature was around 70 degrees (which, of course, you cannot help) , but to find not the pools not heated was a disaster! I know I am speaking for many […] people because it was a ongoing topic of conversation. I may suggest that in the future you block off a section of the bar pool and HEAT IT so that people can reap the benefits of what they paid for. All the pools need not be heated, but at least give your clientele a decent part of a heated pool. The hot tub was overcrowded all the time as no one went in the pool. I have stayed at your hotel numerous times and enjoyed it, but this time was a huge disappointment. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Wonderful, relaxing stay but be wary!!"
We have a nice stay. Although hotel a bit dated. Lots of items of food & drink were short. Some staff (especially one at Churchills restaurant) were unpleasant and uncaring about it!! So you do need to be wary, especially I noted the people who had paid for all inclusive.Genuine Expedia guest review

"not a top quality but nice relaxing hotel"
We stayed there for 9 days. It is not a luxury hotel but still the best one in that island. Beach was nice. Water sports near hotel was quite expensive but convenient for jet ski and papagliding. Everything was ok except hotel food. China Beach was better than other restaurant. Lunch at China Grill was ok. Our boys enjoyed burger and pizza there every […] day.We were too lazy to eat out but restaurants out in the village weren't too good either. Some days I preferred to eat crackers and coffee in the room because restaurant food tasted like left over food to me. I wish food was better so that our stays would have been much better. Front desk Ronetta changed our room in the 2nd day because 1st day our room had a building view behind restaurant area. She tried hard to changed the room. That was nice as we stayed many days. It was nice/relaxing in the beach! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice stay at pretty resort"
Though the hotel had a lot of visitors, the grounds and beach were large enough that my travel partner and I had no trouble finding our own "space". Yoga on the beach with Kim was delightful, and 8th floor marina-view room made us NOT miss an ocean view since ours was still beautiful! Sundry shop near the Plantation cafe takes cash so came in handy […] for snacks (and less expensive than the drug stores at the marketplace). Management should resurface slick areas around the pools though -- saw 3 people take big falls because pavement surfaces were treacherous when the rain came. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel Grounds, Public Areas Nice; Rooms not great"
I was there with friends for about a week to celebrate New Years Eve. The grounds were lovely, as were the public areas. For the most part, the staff were very nice...there was one bartender on my first night there that was not very hospitable to some other guests wanting to order before they closed down the pool bar for the evening...although the closing […] of that bar seemed a bit early to me. The hotel rooms need updating and refurbishing...although they were clean. All in all, an OK stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

As always just a GREAT PLACE TO BE ! Wonderful Trip !Genuine Expedia guest review
Grand lucayan hotel has two very clean and well maintained beaches as well as multiple pools including a swim up bar. Snorkeling, jet skis, parasailing and banana boat rides available. The resort is enormous and during our stay in Jan. 2014 only a few buildings on the property were open. The reception area is gran and impressive, the rooms are clean […] and serviceable but in need of updating. Location is terrific with the nearby port lucayan marketplace offering a range of restaurants to supplement the standard resort fare. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Left a lot of room to be desired"
The pool and the beach were great, but that is about it. I did not receive the king room I booked - they told me that they do not guarantee the bed, just the view - not to mention they were extremely rude when I asked about it. The plastic utensils that I was provided at one of the resort restaurants were dirty - i.e. they reused plastic utensils. This […] facility had a great view, but they cut corners EVERYWHERE. I would not stay here again or recommend it to a friend. The online photos are not a suitable measure of what you actually get. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Needs a lot of maintenance!"
A lot of things not working or broke down. Need higher degree of maintenance, painting and up keep. Restaurants over priced, especially when compare to the market across the street. Compared to the Westin Management - This place needs a lot of work!!Genuine Expedia guest review
This is a lovely hotel complex right on the beach with beautiful pool areas. Dining opportunities are OK, but across the road is the Port Lucaya Marketplace. We ate most of our meals there. Packed with restaurants, bars, shopping, stores to buy water, snacks, wine, spirits, etc. Anything you need you can find there. Next to the regular marketplace is […] a straw market with T-shirts, etc. and OK prices. Lots of kids when we were there (week between Christmas and New Years), but that is to be expected during that time frame. Be sure to ask for an Ocean View Room on a higher floor. This is the second time we stayed here. The first time we were on the 7th floor with a spectacular view, this time we got stuck on the 2nd floor, and the view was quite limited. Still, it was limited by palm trees, and not skyscrapers. One can adjust! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel was nice, but a little tired...needs some updating...staff was pleasant, but could have used some training...incredible, beach with bar and staff close by. Great place to relax, catch up on reading, and enjoy the scenery.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean and well maintained grounds, hotel and pools"
The grounds of the resort were extremely beautiful. The staff was friendly and always had a smile and a pleasant comment.Genuine Expedia guest review
Wonderful hotel and resort. Stayed on the 4th floor of the large ten story building. Newer rooms very nice condition. Lovely ocean view. Beautiful resort. Safe feel, short walk to a town square with a strawmarket, shops, bars, and lots of restaurants. Much nicer than we expected and the price we got on Expedia was reasonable. The resort is remarkable. […] Well run, very clean, tons of pools, hot tubs, all set against a perfect turquoise blue soft sandy beach. We had a wonderful time. Felt safe and relaxed. Enjoyed the food at the hotel and across at the village. We will be going back. I don't work the hotel, have never been here before and was turned off by Nassau. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Staff Was Rude"
The island of Grand Bahama was great as was the food at the local restaurants, however the hotel while having a beautiful beach and amazing views was disappointing. The staff was extremely rude. Everyone had an attitude. I would discuss customer service however wasn't any customer service. Whenever any questions needed to be asked the staff had an attitude […] and seemed as though we were wasting their time and annoying them. I would like to add that our questions were not outlandish and are basic questions any hotel guest would ask. I would not stay here again and this is extremely disappointing as the grounds of the hotel are beautiful and you cant beat the view. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

This is the hotel to stay if you are going to Freeport, Bahamas. It's the major one in a small touristic strip. The resort was just as expected - terrific! Beautiful grounds, nice rooms (our oceanside view was breathtaking!), reasonable prices for drinks & food... all around, a great place. Hotel was very nice (better than expected). Very friendly staff. The Lucayan Village was just across the street and offered many choices for restaurants. The small stand that sold conch salad was the best. Getting a taxi from the airport and back was easy, $23. A lovely place to spend Christmas.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Nice and comfortable"
The hotel is just that nice and comfortable but is in need of upgrading and touch up. Excellent beach front view is relaxing. Bed spreads were outdated, rooms can use touch up paint and appearance overall. Doors difficult to open and u have to ensure it is closed. Closet door sqeeks. These example support the hotel's lack of minor maintainenance. "Not Worth Your Money - Pool CLOSED!!"
I researched the hotels in Freeport online before I booked, and the Grand Lucayan was very highly rated. However, when we arrived to check in, none of the rooms were ready. The front desk employees gave everyone in the lobby a buzzer that would vibrate when our rooms were ready to check in. Ours never worked and after waiting for more than 3 hours, […] we finally got checked into our room. Once we arrived in our room, there was nonstop construction noise going on in the room above us. We asked to be moved, and the front desk employee told us we would have to wait while they cleaned another room for us to move into. They said they would call us in our room to let us know when the other room was ready. After two hours of nonstop drilling, hammering, and sawing noises, we left our room and went down to the front desk. We spoke to another employee at the front desk who had no knowledge of what the previous employee had told us about being able to relocate to a different room. He found us a room and we finally got settled in. We changed into our swimsuits and headed downstairs. As soon as we came out of the hotel towards the pool, we saw yellow police tape and pool closed signs everywhere. The main pool that is shown in all of the Grand Lucayan ads and on their website was closed. They didn't bother to update their website to let any of their guests know before booking either. We checked in on Dec. 13th and the signs said the pool would be closed until Dec. 17th. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

While some parts of the hotel were outdated (showers in the bathroom, hallways), the location and amenities of the hotel made it the right choice for us! It was across the street from Port Lucaya, making it easy to get a meal at all hours and a nice area to walk around without hopping into a taxi. Everyone was lovely, and while food is expensive and […] generally average- a lap pool, evening films by the pool, a hot tub, and a gym make this a great choice in Lucaya. "Nice hotel with beautiful beach and grounds."
We went over from Miami for a short break. I booked a king bed room and was given one with two doubles, but it didnt teally matter since I we each had our own room. I hadn't visited this hotel in almost two years and was worried that because of the tough economy it would be run down. I was pleasantly surprised at the upgrades - flat screen TV in my […] room and better quality toiletries. The beds are still super comfy. There was a lot of pre season maintenance going on which was good to see and the staff I dealt with were very friendly. There is also construction in an older section of the hotel that was closed the last time I was here and the casino which I take that as a good sign that things are looking up. We'd go back for sure. More stuff to do than Eleuthera, if less pristine: nice "optimum". This place is all about comfortable relaxation. Nice spacious ocean view room w King, included bath&shower. Very clean. Terrific fitness center w included sauna & jacuzzi (unfortunately the steam bath was broken for our entire 10-day stay -get it fixed guys!). Great […] hot (!) outdoor jacuzzi and lots of hammocks under the palm trees. Nice pool bar. Everyone is friendly & professional, we didn't hear anything negative from anyone we chatted with (>10). You get the picture. Go try Flying Fish if you're a foody! Excellent. Other restaurants at nearby Lucayan Market we're OK, dont expect anything great though. Good food. The Grand Lucayan had a out of date and under maintained feel. The staff for the most part was friendly. The food was acceptable, however, I am glad that we did not take the all-inclusive option. The beach was beautiful and clean. Check-in was very clumsy and time consuming. We booked a harbor view room. The roof or the adjoining casino did not resemble […] a harbor. The harbor was actually some distance from the hotel. There were very few guests at the hotel; only a few rooms per floor. They should have upgraded everyone. They need the business Having said that. "Loved Grand Lucayan"
Can't say enough about the Grand Lucayan and the surrounding area. Really enjoyed our stay, very chill. Loved the infinity pool, very cool with the turquoise ocean water right there. I read many reviews before I booked the trip. Everything everyone said was true. There are so many little restaurants and bars across the street from the resort as well […] as straw markets. The food was VERY reasonable, which is amazing. Not much snorkeling to speak of at the resort but a 25 minute taxi ride takes you to Paradise Cove/Dead Mans Reef where ELVIS, the guide, will really help you enjoy your snorkeling trip. Best info I had was to eat at ZORBAS greek restaurant across from resort. Also loved BIG DADDY BROWN's conch stand. Conch fritters 4 for a buck, cant beat that. A young man was cleaning fresh conch and throwing the meat up onto the cutting board and Big Daddy transformed it into many different conch delights. Several other good places to eat with Sabors being a fine dining place for those who wish to go that route. I will definitely be going back asap. Living in FL it's only a short hop to get back there. This used to be a Ramada and I have stayed there 5 - 6 times over the last couple of years while working on the island. I don't have a good reason for going back and subjecting myself to additional pain. They seem to think everybody is on vacation, so it is NOT business friendly. Firstly on check-in they try to snap a wrist band on, despite telling […] them I can't wear it on an industrial plant - so it has to be cut-off, right after they put it on!!! Front desk staff are not friendly, guess I am used to the Marriott hospitality? The rooms are tired and require up-dating. I was supposed to get an ocean-view room this time, but the room was on the very end corner and required leaning over the balcony to see the ocean - since I was only there about three (3) days, I couldn't be bothered to get it changed. The staff are miserable and confrontational. Bad morale perhaps? I've written complaint letters to Ramada on at least two (2) previous occasions! Over-priced. Breakfast doesn't start until 07:00 Hr. which is late for most places. It's high priced and they channel guests-in to the cash register using ropes so that you pay first. The food is not that good. "very happy with this hotel"
We stayed at Grand Lucayan for 8 nights and had a great time! During checking there were few misunderstandings (they gave us non-functioning room, then room with wrong bed) but after couple hours and few trials they gave us complimentary upgrade to king bed suit and it was great! Room was nice and clean with very comfortable bed. Room service is very […] reliable and cleans room every day. Hotel stuff was polite and welcoming but little distant. Surprisingly hotel was quite empty during week (off season) however weekends were busy. People come to party and you can get quite noisy neighbors for couple nights. Hotel is gated and as guest you need to wear wrist bracelet. Also they give you only 1 pool towel per person, for some reason they like to keep their property extra protected. What's good but also little annoying. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Best in Freeport, Grand Bahamas"
The Grand Lucayan Resort is far above all the other hotels. Its not even fair to compare. If you are looking for a nice resort, its great, but everything around it is dead, including the casino and marketplace.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Grand Lucayan Hello Eddie, Thanks for taking the time to rate us on Tripadvisor. We appreciate your feedback and the wonderful remarks about the hotel. We pride ourselves on providing a relaxing, home away from home environment where guests are free to lounge in the sun on the beach or near one of our many great pools where no one will disturb them. Many of our guests comment on the size of the property and often times how very quiet and peaceful it is. Though, the hotel does have peak times and seasons, it remains a very peaceful and relaxing destination. On your next visit, for a bit more excitement, might I suggest some of the tours that our available, including kayaking tours of the Lucayan National Park or the Garden of the Groves Botanical Garden. Or perhaps even head out to an open water swim with dolphins at UNEXSO which is also right across the street at the Lucayan Marketplace. Once again, we appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back in the future. Sincerely, Grand Lucayan Marketplace
I guess I went "off season" September- the restaurants were closed for special events or because there was not enough business-the hotel does not advertise "all inclusive" to their guests when checking in. The bartenders acted like it was a chore to make a drink, not social, acted bored. the bellmen were actually the only ones that seemed to care.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Grand Lucayan Hi Donna, Thank you for taking the time to rate us on Expedia. I'm very sorry if you were dissatisfied with our restaurant offerings. We rotate our restaurant offerings each night. One Night it will be China Beach and another night it might be Churchill's. I'm sorry if this was not made clear to you, or if you found this inconvenient in any way. But we always try to have one of our premier restaurants available to our guests. Also, you mentioned that we do not advertise our "all inclusive" when checking in. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this. We offer all inclusive in a very limited capacity and with limited options and many of our guests prefer more options especially when it comes to dining. So I do apologize if there was uncertainty there. I also want to take this time to apologize if our bartenders were anything less than gracious hosts. The level of service that you observed is certainly not our standard and 100% unacceptable. And we will certainly look into this. Many of our guests return again and again because of the level of service that our staff provides, so I am very sorry to hear that we did not live up to that level of service for you. Please accept my sincere apologies. We hope that we one day have an opportunity to make it up to you. Sincerely, Grand Lucayan Management.
