"Decent for budget."
The hotel was nothing special. The staff is nice but the rooms need upgrades! It isn't bad and the price is low for the area. It is within walking distance of Copley Square and if you are just visiting that area and take public transportation than it works. The room was really the only disappointment.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Really old hotel"
This hotel is very old and need refurbishing. Beyond that our stay was pleasent. The staff was great. The room was quiet and comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect for what we were doing"
We stayed overnight to attend a concert at Symphony Hall then planned to walk to the Public Gardens, Boston Common and New England Aquarium the next morning. This location was perfect for ease of getting around and having the T stop right around the corner was also convenient. The room was small but certainly adequate (we don't require bells and whistles) […] and the bathroom and shower area enormous - maybe because we were given a handicap accessible room. The place was spotless and the bed extremely comfortable. The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant and the lobby area quite lovely and welcoming. The continental breakfast offerings were fine with the choice to eat in the sunny solarium or in an enclosed space. We parked at the parking lot across the street. If the hotel had not offered a discount on parking ($27 for 24 hours with their validation of the parking ticket) the rate would have been $61, a ridiculous amount. "Weary And Worn"
The Boston Common Hotel is more than a little weary, worn, and ragged around the edges. The bathroom and room are about thirty years behind the curve and are in need of serious renovation. The television, not a slim, flat-screen HD model, needs to be replaced, too. What's good about the BCH is location, location, location. The property is a block from […] Trinity Place, the Prudential Center, and fashionable Newbury Street. Hotels in Boston are expensive. BCH offers [reasonably] affordable accommodations. "Boston Common Hotel Stay"
Arrived at hotel late on a Weds evening. Greeted by friendly hotel staff and assigned to a room quickly. Staff provided good directions to local places to eat w/in walking distance. Areas was safe for night time walking. Had beautiful weather for 4 days in Boston before leaving on a cruise to Canada & back. Enjoyed the historical sights of Boston. Hotel […] was located downtown w/in a block of Copley Square and w/in a short walk to getting on the Freedom Trail. Hotel also has a well stocked continental breakfast area. Seating in glass enclosed patio area was very nice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
A terrific older hotel. The rooms are a little small, but the property is well maintained, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the location convenient to all of Boston.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff were wonderful and so was the town car driver who took me to the airport. But the hotel is dumpy. No Internet in rooms.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Everyone went out of their way to assist me."
My experience in Boston was great and not so great, ( my fault ), but I made the most of it and had a good time. I am a visual artist. I lost my charger so I was unable to photograph, but as I stated I have a photographic memory, did sketches, and plan on taking mental notes. I did do sketches in the museums. The only let down was this: I thought Revere […] Beach would be really ' ocean like,' with rolling waves and such. It was just a beach! When my son picked me up at the airport I said it was just a beach, and he replied " I knew this, but I figured you knew what you were doing." I laughed and made the most of it. "Wonderful First Visit to Boston"
Got off the train and walked right to the hotel (though a bit hidden entrance needs to be lit up or arrow on sign). Friendly and great staff greet you. Had room on corner of 8th floor overlooking the city (Prudential Bldg out one window and Trinity Sqr. out other) fabulous view. Room perfect for our needs and comfortable - excellent for the money. The […] only thing that was disappointing was the breakfast buffet - toaster didn't work and fare was standard, nothing great and nothing for gluten free. We found plenty wandering through Boston though which is what we came for. Love the convenience to train and subway at this affordable and comfortable hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Room was much too small, bathroom door would not close, mold on inside of shower curtain. After talking to front desk, they moved us to another room- it was better. This Hotel needs renovation. The staff was not friendly (everyone else we came in contact with during our Boston trip was very friendly).Genuine Expedia guest review
I loved the location. I walked around town during the day and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Boston is a beautiful, historic place. The rates were incredible compared to other hotels in the downtown area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was a little small but considering we were only in the room to sleep & shower it was certainly liveableGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, safe & adequate"
We really only used our room to sleep & shower as we were on the go all day. We appreciated the breakfast that was included in the fee. The rooms could be a bit updated & we found the mattress a bit too firm. The staff was very pleasant & the entire facility seemed quite clean. All in all it worked well for our needs.Genuine Expedia guest review
"very comfie place nice and quiet and clean"

We were extremely happy with the hotel. The desk clerk Kelley was really wonderful and upgraded us which was an added plus. Would definately stay there again. The location was greatGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean, comfortable, quiet"
An unobtrusive hotel that is clean, comfortable and quiet. Staff is pleasant and friendly. The hotel has some wear and tear (hard to avoid given it's venerable age), but it's spotless and comfortable. The rooms sport some lovely watercolors, the mattress was comfortable - neither too hard nor too soft.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Rude reception and dingy hotel...The only positive was location. oh and complimentary wifi, NOGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not a bad place and close to everything"
Close to everything but staff appeared to be a little inexperienced. Put in a wake up call and never got it. Staff not really knowledgeable about excursions. They try to help when asked but again inexperience showsGenuine Expedia guest review
Not bad for a bit of an older building. Don't expect the rooms to be new/fancy, but everything was functional, it's a convenient location and you can probably save some money staying here vs. other hotels in the area if that's important to you. Overall, no real complaints.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It's an old hotel. Everything could be updated, but its a good hotel for the price and location. Located close to the subway and everything is within walking distance.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Book it soon!"
This hotel is one of the great bargains in Boston. It's just off Copley Square, about a minute from the Back Bay Amtrak/T station, in the shadow of the Prudential Tower. Older, but clean and comfortable, with helpful, friendly staff. Breakfast is a little skimpy (no hot food offered), but nothing's perfect... The shops, bars and restaurants of Newbury […] St. are two blocks away. Quincy market is a 15 or 20 minute stroll through the Public Gardens and the Common. Even the North End is within walking distance. The bad news is, it's going to be torn down within a year or so. They are taking reservations up through March of 2014, and that's all. If you're planning a trip to Boston, grab this bargain before it's too late. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Very dirty..a little paint and polish wouldn't hurt. Lobby smells a little funky. Bed was very uncomfortable. Lastly, the hotel is almost impossible to find. The only entrance is on a tiny side street that looks like an alley.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Reasonable Hotel in a Great Location"
My husband and I vacationed in Boston and chose Boston Common Hotel for several reasons: reasonable price, great location, and complimentary breakfast. There was free wireless (in the lobby) and free computer and printer use. We knew from the reviews that the hotel was older than some of the surrounding hotels and the rooms were on the small size, but […] we were satisfied with our stay. Our room was quiet, comfortable, and adequate for our needs. Breakfast was just right for us. There was a variety of muffins, bagels, and pastries, three kinds of cold cereal, whole fresh fruits, several juices, three varieties of milk, coffee and tea. A toaster was available. The breakfast area was very pleasant, although you may want to bring a sweater. The best thing about this hotel is the LOCATION. Sites within a half-mile or so include Copley Square, Trinity Church, Boston Public Library, Prudential Tower and shops, Public Garden and swan boats, and much more. It's close to the Theater District and Chinatown, and not far from the Charles River. Public transportation will take you to farther places for just a couple of dollars and the hotel is close to the Back Bay Transportation Station. We went to the JFK Library and Samuel Adams Brewery by following transportation directions on brochures. The hotel is easy to find since it's close to the John Hancock Tower which is visible from quite a distance away. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again. "Small but comfortable"
My son and I stayed for one night while visiting friends. The room and bathroom were very small and outdated, carpets stained and the rooms did not have a lot of amenities. "Dated hotel - no internet access in-room"
Was very surprised/disappointed to find no internet access in room at all - even the free Wifi offered in the lobby was unreliable. Had to use the neighbouring Dunkin Donuts wifi!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location to the T and Public Gardens was fine. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. Unfortunately, the hotel looks as though it was once a beautiful, stately place, and hasn't been updated since the '50s. The carpet is worn, the tub -- I couldn't tell if it was dirty or the enamel was worn off. The room was clean but well worn. The […] continental breakfast was not fancy but adequate. "Close to History"
The hotel's proximity to so much history was a delight. A bit hard to find as the front door is on a freeway entrance/ alley/ parking garage entrance. Everything was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room however was very cold and the breakfast area was freezing.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great staff, ok accomodations"
Staff very helpful, hotel clean, just not fancy or elaborate.Genuine Expedia guest review
Thankfully we weren't planning to spend much time at the hotel other than to sleep. The bathroom was moldy and mildewy and the floor was gross. The carpet was stained and the walls needed fresh paint. Over the weekend I don't think the housekeeper did much besides empty the trash and take the tip. We didn't get fresh towels. The woman at the desk references […] "limited housekeeping" on weekends, but I didn't see that in any of the literature. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Easy access to public transportation system"
Location is very convenient to utilize public transportation system. We stayed on the sixth floor. The bed was comfortable, but the room could have easily been more appealing by a little more attention given to it such as a fresh coat of paint and new bathroom fixtures.Genuine Expedia guest review
"For a conference the hotel is good."
Hotel did show its wear and tear of many years. The rooms needed refurbishing. Since I work out that part of the stay was not good. But, the staff did recommend another salution and that did work for that day. Meanwhile if you want to work out you have to go to another building and pay a fee.Genuine Expedia guest review
hard to find entrance and parking was a pain. bellman stayed with me while husband picked up car. very close to baseball park!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We spent little time in hotel because of graduations and dinners and sightseeing. The employees were very accomodating when we asked questions. The hotel and room was clean and we enjoyed the continental breakfast in order to save time before we were gone for the day. The location of the hotel is very close to many things.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was perfect for our short trip because it was located one block away from our conference. The room was very dirty, including the shower.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
If you are looking for a Marriot experience, you will not get it. The hotel was built a long time ago. It has historical kick to it, which may be a turn off for some people. But given it has a long history, update has been made and maintained decent. It was very quite (stayed on the 7th floor) and felt it had very good wall insulation. Continental breakfast […] was good as well. Didn't have cook your own waffle station but had variety of breads and drinks. Also has business center where you can take care of internet needs. "about as central to the places I wanted to see it"
Small room, but by myself so the fact I had a queen room, which was about 15ft by 12ft, so not spacious, if there are two of you, one person gets about a 9 inch walkway to get into bed. TV was old, could do with flat screens tbh. Installing a few extra wifi hubs wouldn't go amiss, as many have commentated connectivity was a bit random. If these two […] things were improved, I'd think of staying again as I was here for RedSox games, but if not would look elsewhere for my next trip. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very convenient location"
The hotel is located in a very convenient location to some of the best places to visit while in Boston. The hotel is an older building with smaller rooms, but the room was comfortable and had everything a hotel room should have for convenience. The breakfast is continental with good variety of cereal, fruit, juices and coffee. Beside the great location, […] the staff of this hotel is wonderful - very accommodating and helpful. "Good for a cheap short stay."
Hotel was decent during my stay for Pax East. They have a security guard at night so that's a plus. Only issue I had was with the toilet paper, it was half full when I first got there and during the last night of me staying there, it ran out. I told the staff downstairs and my room number but they never came up to bring more toilet paper. As I was packing […] up to leave, I notice there's a spare roll hiding in the upright side of the closet. you would think the staff would mention this to me but I guess not. "Much Better Than I Expected"
The reviews gave me a bit of trepidation but I found them to be ill founded. The property is hidden because the sign board is quite small (it is next door to the YWCA). The interior is a little dated but my room was large and comfortable. They could update the bathroom fixtures and paint some but overall it was clean, in good condition and quiet. Only […] one of the two elevators worked the four days I was there and that was inconvenient. Also, the wi-fi did not work in my room. The Continental breakfast is mediocre. The location could not have been better. Very near the Copley T stop. (this is the Back Bay part of Boston). It is a leisurely 10 minute walk to Symphony Hall. Best of all the price was perfect $107 average per night. I was quite pleased. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Run-down but good location"
The parking garage was across the street, no valet, very few people on site to help you, and there was not a soul in site at 11pm on a weeknight- a bit scary. I asked for security to come out and meet me at the hotel, they said they didn't do that. It was really run-down and tattered but clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Chose it for its location. The location is the only thing I ended up satisfied with. As I entered I could tell I immediately that I was not at a quality establishment. It had the air of a hostel instead of a hotel. One elevator was under "routine maintenance" for my entire 4-day stay. The worst part was when I entered my room. It smelled -- bad. Perhaps […] it was mold, I don't know, but I think the rugs were installed more than 20 years ago. The carpet was all frayed where it met the bathroom threshold. All of the fixtures were even older.
