"Awful"
Paint was peeling off my wall and there was hair all over the bathroom. I never took my shoes off except to sleep. Worst hotel I've ever stayed at.
"The Plains Hotel-Cheyenne, WY"
Lobby and Restaurant have retained interesting details. Rooms are very tired and back rooms barely have ventilation, none-the-less anything to look at. Hotel is stuated well. As long as you know what to expect.
"The Plains"
Cool Historic landmark in downtown Cheyenne WY... woo hoo!!

"I love historic hotels"
If I return to Cheyenne I wil stay at the Historic Plains Hotel. I loved the decor here - the teepee chandelier and the vintage furniture. The cleaning staff could have been a little better but all in all I liked this place.

It's a nice old hotel but our room felt like a converted closet. They evidently have larger rooms but ours was not one of them. At least there was a bathroom in room and we didn't have to use the common bathrooms located down the hallway. I would recommend the hotel provided that the guest knows what they are getting.
"The Historic Plains Hotel in Cheyenne, WY"
This hotel was downtown and close to lots of things. Many restaurants and downtown shopping within walking distance. The hotel has character and is very clean. Staff were helpful and courteous.
"IF YOU LIKE OLD HOTELS . . ."
WE SEARCH THEM OUT. WE THE HISTORIC QUALITY AND STYLE. THIS IS NOT YOUR STANDARD, SAME-OLE-SAME-OLE. TINY OLD ELEVATOR IS REALLY CUTE.
"Historic Plains Hotel Cheyenne, Wy."
Nice older hotel. The parking could be a problem during busy times if you mind walking. It could use a little refurbishing, especially in the bathrooms. Just needs a little freshening. But it was clean and the staff was very helpful in recommendations. The restaurant on site was very good and reasonably priced, especially breakfasts. I would stay a […] gain. Read more

"Great hotel"
Lovely old hotel. Right in downtown area. Very nice lobby restaurant and cafe. Staff are helpful and friendly. No parking on premises but street parking or free parking lot two blocks away,
"Plains Hotel in Cheyenne Wyo"
Really enjoyed the older hotels, alot of history and you feel you are back in times. The housekeeping staff was very helpful and fixed our problems, ie no clock in room. Would stay at this hotel again.

"Plains Hotel in Cheyenne"
The major problem with the Plains is the parking availability. We ended up parking about a block away on the side street which wasn't bad as long as we moved it before 10 a.m. the next morning. Great character for a historic hotel. My room had two queen beds and was very comfortably sized - plenty of room to sit at desk, access sink and bathroom. Appreciated […] but did not use the in-room refrigerator or microwave. Water pressure and temperature fine. Elevator a little shaky and slow but it gets the job done! Would stay here again, especially with the internet rate deal we found! Read more

"Not bad for the price."
The location was great because it was within walking distance our friends home and had good resturants surrounding it. Freeway access was also very good. The service was good house keeping was awesome the only person we had a problem with was the crabby old lady at the front desk. The beds were a little hard but were okay for us since we got in late […] and were up early. They bathroom was REALLY SMALL as well as the elevator. The elevator was also very slow and stopped at every floor even if their was no one there. Read more
"Business Center & Fitness Center...REALLY???"
This hotel advertised "a business center, fitness center, and plush towels." This was a joke...there was no business center AT ALL! the "fitness center" was merely an old treadmill in a room with a TV. The "plush towels" were the most disgusting towels I have seen for sometime. It i quite evident this hotel is in the black financially, but that does […] not excuse them from mis-advertising on Hotels.com. i was dupped! Read more
We stayed in a Parlor room on the 4th floor, very spacious with two queen beds and pull-out sofa. It's an old hotel with all the charms and quirks one should expect -- but that's what makes it interesting. Be warned, there is no parking garage -- so if you're coming back from Yellowstone like we were with a hitch haul full of camping gear -- you will […] have to find a way to store things in your vehicle. The elevator is original to the hotel, very small and tight -- so if you have a lot of stuff, there's no way to get a luggage cart to upper floors. It's all hand carried. It's also worth it! There was a drumming sound in the wall throughout the night. The handle was falling off the shower and the sink allowed excessive flow. The drapes could not be closed to shut out the light and there was excessive noise coming through the windows. Finally, the beds are too hard.

"Definitely historic...just needs nicer front desk"
I really enjoyed staying in a hotel that gave glimpses of the times in the Old West. Great paintings and artifacts. The updates gave just enough modernity to be comfortable. There were no flat-screen TVs, but I could think of greater tragedies. Definitely do the trolley tour of Cheyenne across the street at the Depot. The only complaint I had was that […] the front desk lacked a smile and welcome which is very odd for Wyoming. Read more
"On business"
I stayed at the plains while on business and enjoyed the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was fine with a good view. The hotel itself was very historic and I loved the building and staying in the downtown area. Many interesting things were within walking distance. I would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting something a little […] different than the big chain hotels with character and friendly staff. Read more
"Nice surprise"
You never know what you'll get with a historic hotel. Fortunately, we got great service and a nice room in a great location. Even got a free room upgrade. If you can, I would stay in a parlor room.

"Great stay"
We enjoyed staying in this hotel very much. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Allen at the front desk! I think we had the best meal of our whole trip at the hotel restaurant. The prime rib was melt in your mouth good!!!
"spring trip"
i lived in cheyenne most of my life and had nver been even in the lobby of the Plains Hotel. That being said I liked the overal comfort of the hotel. The staff there was very friendly and was easy to deal with. I would definately stay there again.
"smoky and old"
This hotel has location and some character going for it but the non-smoking rooms and the hallway smelled like stale smoke and the bathroom sink was rusty and looked about as old as the hotel. It was clean though. The "business center" consisted of three cubbies, with nothing - no phone, no fax, nothing. The printer was not working. Staff was nice, […] and the location is convenient. Had some charm but if you are looking for anything approaching modern, go somewhere else. Read more
"Historic Plains Hotel - Cheyenne, Wyoming"
Since I knew this was a historic hotel I understood there would be only street parking. This wasn't too much of a problem since I was there on a night when it was supposed to snow quite heavily. When I checked in the front desk staff were quite helpful. My room was on the 3rd floor so it was a bit of a walk to my room. The room was clean but the hallways […] definitely smelled of cigarette smoke which is typical for old hotels and is almost impossible to get rid of unless you gut the building and start over. The only thing I didn't like was the very small window which was frosted so you couldn't actually look out even though I'm pretty sure it was just a view of a brick wall. I stayed two nights. The hotel was very quiet. I couldn't connect to the internet but that wasn't a big deal for me. I think it's a great historic building and I would recommend it to those staying in Cheyenne. Read more
"Fun location...but not for sleeping."
Other than some difficulties with a late night front desk worker during check in, the staff at The Plains hotel was great. The room, while old and 'historic', was clean and well maintained. The location of the hotel is nice in that it's across the street from a sort of city center that hosts different events. It's fun to be downtown too, except for […] two things: 1) Downtown Cheyenne has lots of character and wonderful architecture, but much of it is abandoned and run down. 2) The traffic noise in our room was HORRIBLE. We were awakened by trash trucks loudly emptying every dumpster on the street and many loud cars and motorcycles sounded as if they were IN our room. I'm sure this is partly due to old, single-paned windows and partly due to location. It's a neat old hotel, but not one I'd choose to stay in during future visits. Read more
"Cheyenne, WY"
We were heading to Yellowstone & needed an interim place to stay, Cheyenne seemed perfect & we didn't want to stay out at the intersection of I25 & 70. This place was great, huge room, comfortable, quaint, authentic west feeling. Our one night was very enjoyable.

"ambience"
My husband enjoyed the history of the hotel. When I checked out, I asked if there was a copy of the history as in the room binder....I received one with a smile. I was so elated that the bar had Woodford Reserve Bourbon....took a picture of the huge bottle with the pour spout. The staff was quite friendly, but the hotel itself was so interesting. If […] we come west again, and we are in the area, we will definitely visit The Historic Plains Hotel! Read more
"Rustic/Quaint with Potential"
The decor was very period and added a rustic/quaint atmosphere. I could see that parking could be a pain if downtown was busy-- you have a choice of off-street or a parking structure 2 blocks away. But I was lucky and found a place real close. The major draw back I saw was the housekeeping. There was mildew in the shower, I found garbage from the previous […] person, and there were no cups with the ice bucket. Overall, it was clean and I enjoyed my room but the housekeeping staff needs to attend to details. An aspect that really perturbed me was that the restaurant and coffee shop downstairs did not show hours of operation. When asked the front desk they did not seem to be sure when they opened either. But thankfully there's a great deal and variety of restaurants in the area within walking distance. In fact, I loved the downtown area of Cheyenne. I visited a couple of art galleries and did a bit of window shopping. Read more

We lost some of our luggage on the street at a late check in. The following morning the desk clerk had it for us.
"Good hotel but pricey"
The hotel is very convenient and in downtown Cheyenne. We walked to the capital and the state museum. There was a great restaurant (Sanfords-steak sandwich) around the corner where the service and food was outstanding. Our room was comfortable and somewhat clean. We found a previous guest's candy bar under our bed. The room was comfortable. The front […] desk was unbelievably slow The bartender was from South Carolina and very good. The Plains was nice but pricey for what was delivered. Read more

"The Plains Hotel"
There was a hair under the pillow. There were chunks of something on the floor as though it had not been vacuumed. There were only 3 towels and no wash clothes in room. We needed to get ready asap and so we had to use the room. We called the front desk and requested washclothes and for the room to be revacuumed. They never showed up. They did bring […] up the crib we requested and stated someone else would be coming with the vacuum and washclothes. They never showed for either. The next day I put a note on the bed asking for the sheets to be changed, floor vacuumed, and the exact number of towels and washclothes we would need. Again the floor was not vacuumed. Disappointing that it was dirty and then the service was not that great. Also, the only window we had was glass you can't see through (fuzzy) and when opened, it opened into an area with four walls surrounding a 10 by 10 foot opening of roof and no place to go if there had been a fire. Just not a lot of quality for the price. Not even a coffee maker. Read more
Only hotel downtown if that's where you want to be. Other choices in area are limited. Hotel very plain and simple, nothing special, very old (100 yrs) & it looks it! Hotel staff ok but not exceptional. Did not eat in restaurant, too pricey, better options in the immediate area.
"Plains Hotel"
I have been traveling west coast to east coast staying at many hotels in the last few weeks. This hotel was the most expensive and the biggest dump. Rooms are small and facilities are poor. Parking can be a problem, street or two blocks away. Cold water and rusty sinks with no plugs. The area is worth a visit but not this hotel.

everything was OK except there was no air conditioning to several rooms. It was a 100 in Cheyenne, Wyoming with no airconditioning for two days, they gave us a fan. You would think they would call someone in to fix the problem. We won't go back.
"Plains Hotel, Cheyenne, like going back in history"
Nice, clean hotel with friendly staff and decorations that went well with the time period and location. Nice overall feeling to the hotel.
"Lovely"
A lovely historic hotel in a historic neighbourhood. Our room was superb but with no view. though you must be limited to what you can do with a historic building. Enjoyed our stay.
