Hotel Fontebella - Assisi

This was one of our favorites on our Italy vacation! Everything about this hotel was perfect. Beautiful views!

My wife and I stopped into Assisi for a 24-hour stay while honeymooning in Rome. The hotel is about a 5-minute (UPHILL) walk from the Giovanni Paolo II parking lot/bus stop. Assisi is difficult to get around in with large luggage, there's just no getting around that. The hotel staff was friendly and spoke English well - a plus since we didn't learn […] much Italian before we left. The wireless internet service was provided via a print-out password you receive upon arrival. It doesn't work in your room, only in the hotel lobby. However, it is quite fast when you're in the lobby. We hiked about ten minutes to get to St. Clare's (UPHILL), and about 7 minutes to St. Francis's (mostly level or DOWNHILL). Our room had a breathtaking view of the Medieval city and the Umbrian plain. Breakfast was typical Italian fare - ham and cheese, croissants and rolls, cappuccino and coffee, juices and sweet breads. It's enough to get you through the day. We would definitely stay here again if we ever make it back to Assisi. Read more

This was a joke. It certainly was not a 4 star hotel. The restaurant was not even open due to lack of customers. The rooms were tiny and over all it look and felt like a very old run down hotel.

The staff was nice. The hotel was difficult to get to with a car given the nature of the city design. The furnishings were dated but satisfactory. Breakfast was good.

Of all the hotels we stayed at in Italy, Hotel Fontebella had the best view of them all overlooking the country side. The room was very clean; however, there were some issues with the air-conditioner working. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

It was a great hotel, location was on the middle of a hill so with our luggage it seemed like a long haul, might take a taxi next time. Breakfast was great the connecting restaurant was excellent as well. Only thing was there seemed to be some electrical glitches with our room, cause they said we used the tv and pulled the emergency alarm in the bathroom […] and nothing happened. I chose this hotel as a romantic place to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. The hotel exceed our expectations. The room was comfortable with an amazing view out of the bedroom window. The associated restaurant was excellent. My only criticisms are minor - the room was a bit dark, and the WiFi was not working well.

I cannot say enough about the courtesy and friendliness of the staff at Hotel Fontabella. The hotel was in a good location near the Basilica. It snowed the days we were there but the location was close to our destinations. It was quiet and relaxing.

the parking is limited in front of the hotel. If full, you need to park outside the city walls and walk. Carry small luggage. As all hotels I had been in Italy, the air conditioning only work in summer. Breakfast is good. The location is good, near the main church.

This is a lovely hotel. It is clean and very well located. The staff was very nice. The view from our room was spectacular, well worth the extra cost. The only problem was that there is no Internet in the room, but you could use the Wifi in the hotel lobby.

The hotel was very well located, for all the features of Assisi - very close to the centre of town - a short, enjoyable walk to everything. It was a clean, tidy, busy hotel, with excellent facilities. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

It is definitely worth paying a bit extra for a Valley View Room - it takes your breath away. The hotel's breakfast room was lovely and the restaurant at night also had a beautiful view of the valley below. The food was also very good and the staff very helpful. This hotel is expensive for what you get. The quality of the accomodation is mediocre at best, and the breakfast was awful. Warm milk on cornflakes was the best of a bad offering. Hotel control AC from reception so you are constantly on the phone to them to turn it on. Funnily enough, they often have 'technical issues' and don't turn it on till later […] in the day.
