very comfortable stay for the 3rd year in a row. But i won't be having the evening meal again, the portions are not big enough to fill my cat. Apart from that i would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Good hotel; got what we paid for - nothing more, nothing less. Would probably recommend to stay in Peebles itself - as it's a 5 minute drive out of the town to this hotel. That may suit some people also as it's set in a beautiful valley

Highlight of our short stay were the superb dinners enjoyed by my wife and I. On the first night, we had travelled from Bath and were tired by the time we arrived. Dinner was superb. On the second night, we had spent the day touring the Scottish Borders and had been tempted to "eat out". The room was very pleasant, but there were some peanuts on the floor when we checked in. They were still there the second day, but were cleaned up when we mentioned theatres at the desk. We didn't eat at the hotel. The breakfasts seemed outrageously expensive at £17.50 each and other than room service, there didn't seem to be a restaurant menu. The […] gym and swimming pool were excellent. The beds were very comfortable and there was an iron and an ironing board provided. We took a dog with us and the staff were very welcoming about that. There seed to be quite a lot of dogs staying when we were. I would definitely stay there again if I was going to Peebles, but if I really wanted to see the Edinburgh festival as I did on this occasion, I would probably opt for somewhere closer. Read more

Our bedroom was comfortable and spacious. The room was always made up while we were at breakfast. Breakfasts were very good, with a comprehensive cold buffet, and hot breakfasts cooked to order. Lunch unfortunately was disappointing, mediocre at best. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel and staff are lovely. The pool is a very good size but no jaccusi which was disappointing. The cost of drinks in the bar is huge so we didn't indulge much! Food is also quite expensive. Breakfasts were lovely - best scrambled egg ever in a hotel! Taxi's into Peebles were very reasonable and it's a lovely wee town.

We enjoyed our stay as in August 2011. Unfortunately the inclement weather curtailed our two rounds of golf for the 2nd year! We will book again through Hotels.com next year as the rates for two nights stay were very good compared to other sites. Hopefully they will be as competitive.

Outrageously overpriced for a poor quality hotel with dated furnishings. Charged almost £18 each for supposed award winning breakfast which was so bad it had to be sent back. over £8 for a single glass of wine. Avoid this place unless you like poor quality at exorbitant prices.

Good spacious rooms with comfortable beds and sitting area. The TV was substandard being very old and the reception on the limited channels was poor. Breakfast was good with a well cooked choice. Not an expansive buffet but adequate. Reception staff were good and attentive. It's a relatively new hotel so the furnishings and decor were of a good standard. Car […] park was flooded in parts due to the excessive recent rain and the golf course was closed. Perhaps the entrance layout could have been more imaginative as the car unloading had to be done in the pouring rain. No shelter. What was the architect thinking of ? The Macdonald Cadrona is very well placed to be able to walk or bus into the pretty town of Peebles.The rooms are large enough to be very comfortable and with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.The staff are very pleasant and well trained.

Website shows modern building in a field ...not wrong .Staff (in particular spa staff) trained to ignore you and carry out loud conversations (moans mostly)about work as you walk pass . Saying good morning would not be an issue for them !! A homogenised modern hotel where service is a dirty word

The appearance and setting of the hotel is wonderful. Unfortunately we thought that the covers on the double bed need to be a lot larger - the duvet only overhung the sides of the bed by approx 2 inches! I particularly asked for a quiet room - We were awoken by what sounded like a party in progress at around 1.30am in the morning.

Whilst the staff of the hotel were friendly and helpful there were a number of issues with our stay that made for a frustrating two days: no wifi connection and very expensive to connect through hotel, room was airless with no aircon, food in the restaurant was very poor quality and value.

I found this hotel to be rather dated and totally lacking in atmosphere. The building is also most unattractive from the road side looking rather like a prison with all teh windows identical and a most disappointing entrance. Moreover, I'd made a special request as this was a treat for my Mother's birthday and while I appreciate these are not guaranteed […] it was not even acknowledged. I also booked a twin room, however, was given a double. When I challenged this I was told I had definitely booked a double which was not the case. The room was very disappointing with a view of the road (noisey) and given how empty the hotel was I'm sure there were lots overlooking the golf course available. Also, while it was clear the reservation was for two people only one spoon, one piece of shortbread and one showercap was provided. Lounge bar meal chice was already limited and on ordering cotage pie was advised there was no minced beef available for this and another choice had to be made. I was very disappointed and while the hotel was clean and the staff were mannerable it was well below my expectations from my pre-reading from the MacDonald website. Read more

very happy with our stay here. did find it quite amusing that they still have old school tv's in the rooms considering how cheap flat screen tv's are now. there is lots to do here and the leisure facilities are spot on. we got a good deal on the room through this website and as long as they keep their prices reasonable we will definitely be back.

Stayed in the MacDonald Cardrona over the New Year period and it had it's good and bad points. Good points: location is very quiet if that's what you want. On-site spa/gym/pool are good, Golf course looked good but very flat. Breakfast was excellent with a very good range of choices and plentiful supply of everything. Bad points: The TV in the room […] looked like it came from a museum - a big grey box with 12 channels? in this modern age and in a 4 star hotel? There was a layer of dust on most of the surfaces in the room, made worse by early morning sunlight which highlighted just how bad it was. lovely hotel but best to ask for a room facing the golf course - lovely views. Rooms large with nice seated area. Shower huge. Leisure center good and well equipped - steam room roasting !! only downfall leisure centre staff not very attentive - need to work on people skills. Overall would recommend and stay again

I chose to stay at the Cardrona despite it being a 30 mile, round trip, away from my destination. It was a hotel I had used before and it had a swimming pool which was important to me. I stayed there for 4 nights over a three week period. the third visit for two nights. On my second and third visit the pool was either out of action or not up to correct […] temperature, which rendered the pool unusable. This was very disappointing. The TV did not work during my second visit, though quickly rectified by the duty manager. Staff attitude was mixed, though on the whole not what I would have expected. An excellent few days, hotel was of a very good standard with very attentive & courteous staff. There waa a minor problem with the pool but did not cause any great inconvenience. The golf course is quite challenging but as with many new resort type courses there is a fair distance between some holes resulting in rounds of in excess of 4 hours.
