Hotel Alessandrino - Rome

My family stayed at this hotel before and after our cruise. It is easy to take the train from the airport to the station near the hotel (though you must walk some blocks for 10 minutes from the San Pietro station to the hotel), and to take the train from San Pietro station to the port. The hotel is located10 minutes from the Vatican by foot; very convenient. […] Our room for 5 had 2 queen beds and a single bed in one room, so it was cheaper than getting 2 rooms. If you book rooms months in advance, it is much cheaper than if done weeks in advance. The breakfast was great and ample for all. The desk help varied from pleasant and helpful to not so pleasant (I.e. if you leave the room earlier than 6:30 AM, the bald clerk gets a little stewed as the noise wakes him and his wife in the adjoining room). Hotel was very nice and clean especially for the price. Location is great to walk down to the Vatican city (10 minute walk tops) and catch a bus/train from there. Staff was very helpful in getting us tour information, calling cab, etc.

we only got 1 tv channel . half the ac outlets didn't work the only light was the ceiling light there was one by the bed but there was no place to plug into . a room full of young guys were partying across the hall at all hours . the room looked nothing like advertised this place i would not recommend .

Stayed there due to its walking distance to the Vatican and because they allowed 5 people in one room. Rate is decent for the area. The hotel itself was really nice - we really liked its location (although climbing the hill in that heat was a bit of a challenge), public transportation to any sightseeing places was convenient, taxi home at night from the city center was always around 15 eur. There were some discomforting things though - we were always quite late to eat breakfast […] as it was served till 9.30, so we used to come maybe 15 mins till the end and sometimes hot food (eggs and bacon), fruits were already finished. Then our room was on the ground floor and bedroom windows to the backyard where, I assume, cleaners would start picking up their things early in the morning. So the noise would always wake up us around 7 a.m. We had a room with a bath tub and after showering there was always a lot of water around - not really nice to walk there later on.. From "A to Z," the staff was outstanding: directions --- explicit and reinforced --- were great, additional cooking of the bacon --- to my taste --- was wonderful. I had a view (narrow) and a balcony that I did not expect. My luggage was stashed for an evening flight departure and I was treated with great courtesy when I rendezvoused with my luggage […] and used their computer, lobby and "freshen up" room. Giorgio, at the front desk, in particular acts as if he owns the place; he takes such great care with all requests and he is handsome, too. The location, once you understand the twisting streets, is great. Upon arrival, when you leave the San Pietro train station, after transferring at Trastevere, go along the railroad tracks TO YOUR LEFT AND UP THE HILL. Do not proceed on any narrow, winding roadways. Then, at the little "sit-down park" overlooking the tracks, turn RIGHT. You are 300 meters from the hotel's entrance. The room was well-appointed, efficiently arranged and the bath had a towel warmer!! I will stay here again when I am next in Rome... Read more

I'm going to have to disagree with the majority of reviewers of this hotel since I had several issues while staying at this hotel. And I picked it based on the reviews. First problem I had was that the AC was not working. It would shut off after 1 or 2 minutes on its own. I brought it up to the receptionist twice and she told me "The AC only works between […] 1pm and 6pm and it is impossible to run all day." I told her I need it at night since it’s hot and I have to open the window all the way. She later said she will have a tech look at it. Next day she told me they turned it on from 10pm to 1am. But that was also a lie because my AC never worked!!! Not going to let this ruin my stay so whatever I can sleep with windows and shutters open. Second problem was the drain was clogged and we had water going into the hotel room from the bathroom. They fixed the same day it was reported. Third problem was I was charged some strange "Tax" during checkout. Why this wasn’t included in my original payment and how come it was never mentioned??? Read more

I really liked this little hotel. My (single) room was VERY small, but comfortable. The hotel was tightly tucked away in a neighborhood, just south of Vatican City. You can walk there in 10 minutes. Also the train system was very close. Just 5 minute walk to St. Peter's Station. I will definitely stay there again if I'm in Rome again.

The day-time hotel staff were friendly and knowledgable, providing exact bus numbers for the places I was travelling to. It is a bit difficult to find the hotel, and the taxi did have a tough time (30 euros from the station). I took the bus to the station when I left Rome for 1 euro. The bathroom appeared large, but was difficult to manuever around […] the tight corners. The room got warm at times, but it was a great excuse to open the shutters. The hotel is on a hill (like a lot of Rome) so make sure you are prepared to walk up and down it each day. The front of house staff are lovely and very helpful and the lady in the breakfast room is happy to make you a cappuccino or hot water for tea - just ask. The bed is a little firmed than we would have hoped and was two twin beds latched together. TV is a very old one - not had the digital switch over yet and one channel had no sound at all. The breakfast has some great continental options but the toast is a bit crunchy and only had muesli as a cereal option - which isn't great for allergy sufferers. The coffee is a lot stronger so make sure you put a smaller amount in the cup unless you like it strong! A lovely hotel set in a quiet neighbourhood. A 15 minute walk down hill from St Peters Square. The breakfast was nice and set you up for the day. A little bus runs just outside the hotel and drops you off at st Peters.

Vi fick rummet på bottenplan där, om vi hade uppe persiennen eller öppet fönster, alla såg in. Det stod en öppnad vattenflaska i kylen. Personalen var inte otrevlig men absolut inte heller trevlig. Det luktade unket på rummet. Frukosten var väl okej men inte mer. Området innehöll en enda restaurang och om man gick lite längre bort fanns några fler, […] men dessa var som direkt hämtade från phukets mest turisttäta kvarter, med hetsiga servitörer/inkastare, 10% service på notan och dåligt men dyrt vin. På något sätt hade vi fått för oss från bilderna att det var en mycket trevlig takterass, men den var sliten och nergången. Utsikten var däremot helt okej. Algo muy interesante es la terraza del 5° piso, para tomarse una cerveza o un vino al atardecer, con la Basílica de San Pedro de fondo... muy bueno. Ojo... nadie conoce la calle Alessandrino, ni los policías, ni los taxistas, etc. Pregunten […] por la calle subida del Gallo, ahí sí. El sector es muy seguro, incluso de noche o madrugada.
