"Felt like a B&B"
I would definitely stay there again and recommend it. Very close proximity to Nob Hill area, Jackson Square and Financial District. Excellent service. Breakfasts were excellent. Fireplace in the room was really nice. Nearly $100 less per night than large hotels in the area. Really an excellent stay!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place and cozy"
Very excellent and great place, feels like being in parisGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We arrived late afternoon on Easter Sunday and our room was mistakenly not cleaned. The staff was so apologetic and bent over backwards to make things right. They upgraded us to The White Swan (two doors down) and a fantastic room and then they comped us for the our (2) days of valet parking. Which they did not have to do, as we were very happy with […] our accommodations. The staff was wonderful and their restaurant reccommendations were perfect; picking out local places (off the beaten track) in North Beach that we would have never experienced. Loved our stay and would love to stay there again and again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Nice but very old building, we are warned of that by a note in our room - meaning you can hear every footstep above you and every creak in the floor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel was what I needed; location and full breakfast. All employees displayed excellent customer service. If ever in San Francisco again I would stay at this location.Genuine Expedia guest review

We just love this place .We have stayed here 3 times now. It is in a good location for a lot of places to visit. The free wine social every evening and the breakfast are all great.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Tacky accommodations not compensated by low rate"
I have stayed at the Petite Auberge in years past, and I was frankly disappointed by the shabby state into which this quaint hotel has fallen. The beaureau drawers didn't close properly, there were mended holes in the beadspread, the armoir size, hardware, and location made it difficult to use for TV viewing, and the bathroom fixtures, including the […] tiny bathtub and lack of counter space made the bathroom annoying. The WiFi access was spotty and kept disconnecting. While some might find these features quaint, for a business traveler they are unacceptable. I will not stay in this hotel again. Response by Petite Auberge Thank you for your continued loyalty staying at Petite Auberge when you visit San Francisco. We are sorry to hear that you were not happy with the condition of your guestroom on your latest visit. We will have our maintenance and housekeeping team inspect and update yoru guestroom as needed to ensure the condition is improved for future guests. We hope you choose to visit us again the next time your leisure travel brings you to San Francisco.

"Very quaint, well located hotel."
The location was really great - very convenient to Union Square, China Town, Trolley Stop, great restaurants and shopping. The SF tourist center was close and we were able to buy transportation tickets for trolley and buses with credit card there. The hotel breakfast was wonderful with hot and cold selections, coffee was always available. I liked the […] decor - French Provincial - with pretty wall papers and soft colors. The room was clean and quiet. I would stay here again when visiting San Francisco. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"cute little place"
The clerk at the front desk kindly switched us to a" larger room" with a fireplace at no extra cost. The room was small, but very cutely decorated. We missed the breakfast by 5 minutes. I wished the staff had offered us some food as he was barely putting the plates away. a donation of $1 was added to my bill. not the correct way to do it. I don't mind […] supporting charities, but I prefer to choose my own rather than be billed automatically. The place was clean and the location was great for our visit in SF . "Fine for a 1 night stay"
The hotel was centrally located and served its purpose for a single night stay. If I was going to stay for 2 or more nights I would have been very disappointed and possibly would have eaten the cost and moved hotels. The room was badly in need of a renovation. There was visible mold/mildew on the wallpaper under the windows. The heater barely worked, […] it took several hours to make the room comfortable. Our room was located next to the elevator, had it not been New Years Eve I would have been kept up all night. Finally the shower was tiny, my husband and I are small people so it was perfectly alright for us, but anyone overweight or tall may not be able to use it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A charming stay with a french touch"
It was great. The access one of the side of the bed was very narrow. A smaller night table on the side next to the door would have allowed more space along the wall.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Europe flavor in SF"
This hotel is very European flavor and would be 4+star in Europe. By American standards (room size, updated, electronics, soundproofness) it is only a 3. Staff is helpful and friendly- in close proximity to all the sightsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Country B&B in heart of downtown SF"
Cute little hotel near union square (4 blocks away). We stayed in a room with a queen and a fireplace. Cute little room, simple. The fireplace was cozy and romantic. Free breakfast every morning, a fridge stocked with free bottles of water and soda, afternoon wine and snacks... These are all things you never see in a hotel in the city. We will definitely […] stay here again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was wonderful and the staff was amazing. Breakfast every morning was delicious, and I really appreciated the complimentary tea and coffee available all day. My only problems are small ones: the floors everywhere are pretty creaky, and the shower is made for people rather shorter than I am (6'). These were tiny things and I would highly recommend […] it! ""Petite" is the right word"
Rooms are very small. Shower is smallest I have ever seen in a hotel. Afternoon snacks and morning "meal" were fine. This place is quaint but not for people who have trouble getting around easily.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Would definitely stay again!"
We were in San Francisco for a business trip and then moved to the Petite Auberge for the last two nights. We loved it and the location was awesome, just a few blocks to Chinatown. The fireplace was super romantic and as long as you bring ear plugs you can't beat it. The staff were all nice and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It's petite all right."
Overall had a nice stay at the hotel. Staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great. Promo was very small and cramped. It was also very noisy. The floors creeked as the person on the floor above walked around. Also as people walked in the hallway, it didn't seem like there was a wall between. My room was next to the elevator and when ever it was in […] use, it sounded like a bolder rolling downhill. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Cute, old-world hotel"
From the front-desk check-in, to the keys, to the wallpaper on the wall, this hotel reminds me of places I've stayed overseas. The gas-lit fireplace in the room was a nice touch.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Charming Hotel, But......"
Overall the place is charming and well maintained. The staff is extremely nice and accomodating. However, there are several small problems that are not identified in the ratings. The plumbing is not the greatest. The temperature on the shower was difficult to set to a constant temperature. The faucet on the sink was so short that you had to touch the […] back of the sink to wash your hands. The rooms are small. The view is of a wall, except in 2 rooms and those only look out onto a courtyard. One the plus side, the windows open and there is always a nice cool breeze in SF. Honestly I would stay here again, but I would rather pay more and have a room with a view. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for leisure travel"
The hotel was lovely and the staff were great. This is a B&B style hotel so with that you expect certain things. If I were traveling for leisure this would have been a great place to stay. Good neighborhood and centrally located. I was traveling for business and the City was booked up so my choices were very limited. The European style elevator (with […] door & gate) got annoying after a while trying to drag along my roller briefcase. And there was no AC (very common in old SF buildings) so I had to leave the windows open at night which meant all the sounds of the City came into my room. Not as restful as I would have liked. Overall though, on vacation, I would stay here again. The breakfast was great! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fantastic weekend getaway hotel"
The rooms are small but comfortable and the fireplace rocks! It's a little loud at night but you're right in the middle of the city so it's about what you should expect. The staff was wonderful especially Andy and they did a fantastic job with both breakfast and cocktail hour. We socialized and drink wine with so many people and made new friends -it […] was great! We didn't have a car but you don't really need one in that city and it's more inconvenient to have to park in valet than to just walk. Beds and linens are all very clean- and yes, we checked- bed bug free! I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in the city Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"cozy and reasonable"
The overall impression was favorable. SF is dense and that has to be kept in mind. In comparison with the other available options I feel we made a good choice in staying here. Bonus was that they had a real breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
What a wonderful small French-country hotel located near Union Square. If you are willing to carry your own bags this hotel is a great value. The breakfast is great--juice, eggs, sausage. hotcakes, cereal, pastry and superb French coffee. In the late afternoon there is wine and cheese to be had, all with the price of the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"pleasant walk to AT&T park, churches, Nob Hill"
It was great. We loved the wine/appetizers in afternoon and the breakfasts. Only complaint is the small room with full bed on 5th floor. We would much have preferred to have a room like #24 where our friends stayed. Next time--hope you will accommodate a bigger room & bed.'ThanksGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Hotel with a personalized touch."
We loved the French inspired theme throughout. The location was ideal to many great attraction in San Francisco. We prefer the individualized feeling at this hotel, versus the larger hotels that have hundreds of rooms.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A very good hotel"
Cozy hotel, the staff is very friendly. The bedroom was very clean with a functional fireplace (which was very enjoyable with the cold weather outside). The breakfast offers a wide range of food. "I guess the vaue is about right"
I was in SF for business, and stayed at the significantly less expensive Mayflower Hotel (a simple pensione-style place, no pretensions) one block away; then my wife joined me for the weekend, and I moved to Petite Auberge for a bit of a splurge. On the whole, I thought I received better value, bigger room, better bed, at the less expensive place, but […] my wife was happy, so that's what counts. Specifics on Petitie Auberge: Negatives were very small room, bed too soft, "French Country Inn" touches were kitschty rather than quaint (but what did I expect?); front desk personnel are shared with the neighboring hotel and are not readily available. Postives were pleasant and generous breakfasts, good central location walkable to many sight-seeing destinations, pleasant nibbles and wine in the early evening, adequate ambience, and, again, my wife liked the place, so there you have it. :-) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely small San Francisco hotel"
The location cannot be beat. It is both central and safe. The rooms are lovely and a wonderful breakfast is included. My only complaint is that there is almost never a receptionist available. You have to go next door to neighboring property. Week up calls did not arrive. A gift a friend left for me was not given to me. I went to ask for it the day after […] i arrived because my friend had told me it would be there. This hotel would benefit from an improvement at the front desk in both locations. "A bit of Europe in San Francisco"
My reservation for the Petite Auberge turned out to be in its sister hotel, the English-themed White Swan next door. We were upgraded to a suite on the first floor, very convenient (especially when the antique elevator stopped working). The rooms were large and surprisingly quiet. This is an older property but quite charming. Complimentary wine and […] hors d'oeuvres were only exceeded by the excellent breakfast, also included. The location in the French Quarter of San Francisco, not too far from Union Square, is very good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice getaway at reasonable price"
Great breakfast, cut rooms, nice fireplace. Loved the feeling. Much better than chain hotels. Convenient location (near Powell-Mason Cable). Reasonable price. Only "issue" is the sound of footsteps in the room above, but that was not really a problem.Genuine Expedia guest review
"you may not mind the noise and lack of AC"
The Staff was awesome as was the breakfast. I really didn't mind not having AC in the room, but the idea of the street noise and seeing people across the way cooking in their apartment was not my idea of a great view. You had to sleep with the windows open so the noise was not an option. Wintertime would be the best time to use this hotel, the fireplace […] and the windows would not be open. I won't stay here again, prefer to be closer to the wharf but all in all it was a nice place to stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"recent romantic getaway"
overall enjoyed the hotel. Best parts were the friendliness of the staff and the wine happy hours and breakfast. It has a European feel to it as its very small and the rooms are smaller than usual. My only slight complaint was the thin walls and you seem to hear everything but I understand its 100 years old. Also the temperature in the room was pretty […] warm and we were unable to control the thermostat. Other than that I would stay here again and recommend it just for the price and location and staff. "We'll be back"
The experience was fantastic, the hotel charming. The location (central and within easy walking distance to all of SF downtown, embarcadero, North Beach, and South of Market), staff (efficient and pleasant), rooms (small but given the size, very comfortable and with enough storage space), shared rooms downstairs (very comfortable, attractive), FOOD […] (unbelievably and consistently very good). "Loved it!! Would go back!!"
At first I was a little taken a back by the size of the room, very small, but then I remembered, boutique, and I settled down. Service was excellent, very kind staff. Free water and soda, free breakfast, free wi fi, snacks, etc at night, great place! Loved the fireplace! Made the stay romantic!! Overall I would recommend this place to my friends!!Genuine Expedia guest review
My room is small, but with a really King size bed that my feet can "on-board". Very nice services. Everything is at where they should. A cozy place. The only problem is the building is too old. This makes a lot of people mark it "noisy". But from my point, it's common.Genuine Expedia guest review
Everything was great but they need to put safety bars and safety mats in all the bathtubs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"cozy and great location"
nice, cozy rooms. The fireplace was a nice touch to warm the room. the street noise - late night - after the clubs close ... can be loud and disturbing if you are a light sleeper not used to that kind of activity. The staff was really helpful and attentive.Genuine Expedia guest review

Wonderful European style hotel in a nice neighborhood. Enjoyed the afternoon wine reception with other interesting guests. Easy to drive to and valet parking available.
