My husband and I had a nice stay at the Novotel. Our room was clean, the hotel staff friendly, and the breakfast delicious each day. The location was quiet and just across the bridge from many main attractions. We enjoyed the walk along the river each day. My only dissatisfaction was the room design/fixtures. The room was small and should have been […] designed to be more spacious. Elimination of the silly separate toilet location would give guests that extra room. The space was cluttered with promos that the hotel offered, a keyboard (for when purchasing internet) etc. etc. etc, but sticking all that in a drawer cleaned it up just fine. There were a couple lights burnt our and the shower leaked onto the floor. Small details that should be caught by the staff. All and all though, we enjoyed the stay. Read more

We found this to be a clean, well run, family friendly, and well located hotel. We traveled to London with two children (ages 6 and 11) for four days of sightseeing. Our room, with a bed and a pull out sofa, worked well four a family of four. We also took advantage of the hotel's breakfast buffet each morning (breakfast was included in our room rate), […] and the buffet provided something for everyone (hot items, cereals, juices, tea, coffee, fresh fruit, and fresh breads). The hotel staff was very helpful with any of our questions and with reservations of any kind (including taxis as needed and a shuttle to Heathrow). The hotel was a short walk to the closest Tube stop (London Bridge) and was within a short walk of a lot of good restaurants along the Thames River. The hotel was also fairly centrally located for all of our major sightseeing. We would definitely stay there again. Read more

Staff very friendly and always willing to help. Our A/C wasn't working properly and they gave us a fan late thst night. Next day moved us to another room that was cooler. The only problem we had was with the A/C that it's not properly an A/C, it's more like a humidifier so don't expect a cold room on a hot night, but cool enough (for London) to sleep […] well. After a 7 day cruise with an inside cabin we were looking forward to a little extra space. I understand that rooms are small in London but the problem here wasn't exactly that the room was small - it was more that it was not well thought out. There was very little surface area in the bathroom for our things. The funny little 'closet' was tiny and if […] you put a suitcase on the built-in bench inside it was impossible to access the only drawers. We ended up living out of suitcases. Otherwise, it was okay. We had a decent late dinner in the bar. Breakfast was way too expensive when you can get full English breakfasts at several little cafes near the tube stop. Stayed in London 3 nights with wife and 2 kids ages, 9 and 12. The room was very small, and not well cleaned or maintained. A bad odor came from the bathroom and the sink was clogged with hair. The hotel did not fix until I called repeatedly. Hotel is located close to the Thames but a very long walk to attractions. The nearest tube stop is London Bridge […] but you need to walk past many pubs along the way, one with drunk patrons vomiting in the street. 20 pound taxi ride to anywhere. Rooms were a bit small but very clean and well-maintained. Pull-out bed wasn't very comfortable, but the queen bed was fine. The room had no coffee-maker, so unless you drink tea you needed to go to the restaurant to get a cup of coffee. There was no free wi-fi...which we knew ahead of time but we still found it to be ridiculous. The two public computers […] in the lobby were helpful but there was no privacy and we often had to wait for one to be available. The fitness center was very small, but the aerobic machines were very good...and it was not very crowded. However, no one mentioned that the room cardkey must be activated before use in the fitness center, so I wasted about 1/2 hour trying to get it to work (and trying to find help on the floor) until an extremely helpful maintenance worker explained what I had to do. Borough Market nearby was a dream, and access to the Thames was perfect, but the actual location of the hotel is somewhat bland. Just like the Novotel in Paris we stayed prior to our trip to London, the design of the room is out of touch to what the guest's needs. The bathroom in particular, is lack of counter top space in the vanity. The only good thing about the bathroom is it has a separated shower and tub. However, it's not worth the trade off. Just like its sister hotel […] in Paris, the shower door is terrible designed that everytime we take shower, the water would flooded the bathroom floor. The toilet is on a separate room from the bathroom and has no sink. Imagine having to use the toilet at night in one room then have to go to the bathroom to wash your hands and all the door knobs you touched with your dirty hands on the way... The biggest disappointment on this hotel is upon check-in, we have noticed right away that the refrigerator and air conditioning are not working. The A/C would just blow our normal air no matter how low we set the thermostat. We contacted the frontdesk. But not until the next day before they replaced the refrigerator. We've brought some cold food from Paris but we have to throw them away because the refrigerator didn't work. The A/C, however, didn't get fixed. We keep complain back to them everyday until our staying is almost over. We don't even get an explanation on why it's not fixed. Even though the temperature in London is quite cool but having 4 people in a small room can get pretty hot, especially during the day. Read more

After missing a flight from the US and calling the hotel to explain we will be checking in 12 hours late, my family arrived at the hotel just before midnight. We were told that our room was not ready because there was a problem with the bed. We were shipped off to another hotel all the way accross town and back near Hathrow where we just came from. […] (They could have arranged this when I called them the first time). The next morning we were shipped back to the City South hotel. The room was cramped. The A/C did not work and the shower, dispite a number of attempts to fix, leaked water all over the floor every day. Great breakfast and location. Wonderful staff. BUT: 1) Room was too hot and they could not seem to fix it. We complained each night. It really was aggravating to need to sleep on top of the sheets undressed to be even then uncomfortably HOT. 2) The internet was not free. This is not new but it is aggravating. What was maddening about the internet is […] that they wanted to charge $10 Euros per day PER DEVICE. So if your wife and kids each had computers and smart phones, which we did, then we would have had to pay $60 Euros per day for all 6 devices. At other Novotels, the internet is free or you pay one fee and there is no limit on devices per room! 3) We had to pay for the internet in Euros in London AND the surcharge/exchange rate on pound to Euro to US dollar conversion was atrocious. Again at other Novotels in Europe they exchanged for a fair rate, but a 10%+ profit or more on each transaction was not nice. 4) Staff was not knowledgeable about restaurants in the area and could not even suggest a good family fish and chips place. All this being said, the hotel was OK; and one can do a LOT worse, but there really are better deals on hotels in London on hotels.com. Read more

This was a generally clean and reasonably comfortable hotel, but lacking in any charm. It's relatively close to St. Paul's and surrounding area, but there is no night life in the immediately surrounding area. Most problematic, wifi costs extra and is unimaginably slow--as in dial up circa 1992 slow. This is shameful and unacceptable in a business hotel […] in 2012. We were traveling to London with our children ages 3, 5, 9, and 11 for the first time and relied on Hotels.com reviews to pick a hotel for our week stay. We were SO happy with The Novotel! They stored our bags in their luggage room until our room was ready so we could get out and begin exploring the city. It is only a few blocks walk to the River Thames […] where you can find many places to eat at night and walk the river. We booked the standard queen bed with a queen pull out bed, and both were comfortable. They did not stock what Americans call bath or wash clothes, but this is very European and not a bad reflection on them, just know to pack a few on your European travels. They have a buffet breakfast in the morning and a nice bar with a few big screens for winding down at the end of the day. Easy internet access in the rooms also. It was our first time using hotels.com, and we'll definately return to them AND Novotel. Read more

My room was not clean when I checked in. I called the front desk to complain and left a note for housekeeping asking them to throughly clean my room. There was trash left on the floor, candy under the desk, and no towels. When I got back to my office after work the mess was still there and the note was gone. I had to call the front desk again to complain. […] By the time I got back from dinner they had recleaned my room and sent up a fruit basket and bottle of wine but it was too little too late. We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Novotel South - I was worried about fitting four people in our room, since I knew European hotel rooms don't typically come with two queen beds like American ones do - but our room had a double sized pull out couch that was set up when we arrived, and slept one adult and one child quite comfortably. If I go back to London again, however, I think I will try to find a hotel in the Westminster area, since that seems to be where many of the major sites are. 10 minutes walking distance from the Tower of London, the Millennium bridge, the Shakespeare’s globe. Hotel staff are courteous and helpful. My room AC was not very cold, it could be one of the hottest days in the UK. Great Indian restaurant (Mango Tree) around the corner. Overall, I would recommend and stay again.
