Why have we not stayed here before? Great location, spacious rooms, great hotel staff! We visited during May before the crowds, so nights were relatively quiet. In the perfect area for getting around. Hotel has charm and plenty of character and a hotel staff that wants and knows how to please! We will be back!

This hotel was perfect for location. It was near Plaza Mayor as well as Puerta de Sol. The security was good. The room accomodations was the most unpleasant thing about my stay. The room was always clean but the rooms were small and the beds were hard as rocks!!

The most important reason for picking this hotel is its location, just a stone's throw from Plaza Mayor. We liked the hotel, the staff was pleasant, the onsite restaurant was convenient, and we didn't have any problems with our room. It wasn't a 'brand new' hotel, but the location made it well worth the price for us.

We booked a family suite since we had 2 adults and 2 teens. The first room we received was in a attic part of the hotel with a sloping ceiling. You couldn't walk without hitting your head. We talked to the front desk and they couldn't switch rooms until the next day. The next room was better than the first one but I wouldn't say it is a 5 star hotel. […] It is a great location. We were very disappointed in the room compared to my sisters. We couldn't stand up in a large part of the room because of the slant of the ceiling. Getting from one side of the bed to the bathroom was it was easy to bang your head on the ceiling and sharp corners. The curtains were not hung correctly, falling off the rod. Very nice hotel and staff, clean with a good breakfast buffet. Close to all museums and to the metro. Only good things to say for them. Unfortunately, due to several festivals and celebrations closing the streets, we were forced to use the metro to get to the hotel and there we learned the Madrid metro is packed with theives. The hotel was was totally satisfactory but only satisfactory.The rooms are small. A small however, was that it was not responsive to any requests. The computer corner had no light so you couldn't see the keyboard. No one came to fix the TV. But that didn't matter because we weren't there to watch TV anyway. We wanted to stay close to the Plaza Mayor, […] because as I had remembered it from 50 years ago, the Plaza was beautiful and regal. We just left this hotel in Madrid. This is a great location right off Plaza Mayor. The front desk staff were very nice, but the room was very small and had a LOT of problems! Light bulbs out (never fixed after reporting), toilet seat broken and laying loose (fixed after reporting) and trim broken on the main writing table...it looks like this hotel […] needs a lot of loving maintenance attention. Paper thin walls, creaking carpets, mattresses need replacement, and leaky sink, to name just a few of the issues we had. Wireless internet did not work. We enjoyed the location of the hotel, but would not suggest staying here, until they renovate (again).

The hotel is situated in a great location, within 1 minute of the Plaza Mayor and within walking distance to most major attractions (Palacio Real, Gran Via). There were no blankets so I had to sleep with the heater on all night, waking up feeling very dehydrated. The description on the in-hotel book mentioned that the hotel offers English TV channels and English newspapers, but this is not the case. Bring a good book to read if you don't understand Spanish! The hotel staff was helpful and some spoke English well. The fridge in my room was broken and was fixed the following day. The amenities like the computer was too touch sensitive, the bathroom door sounded like a bullet going off each time it was opened or closed, and the the modern "square" style of the hotel did not impress me. A friend and I traveled to Madrid for three nights and stayed here. The hotel has a cozy, warm atmosphere and is very nicely decorated. I read from others that the rooms were small before going, but we both found the room to be a pleasant size with a large, nice bathroom. The sheets were soft and we found the beds to be quite comfortable. It was an […] easy walk there to everywhere we wanted to go, a great location! The only downside to our room was that it was by the elevator, and since we stayed up late and wanted to sleep in, the noise in the earlier hours of the morning didn't allow us to sleep well. I think the walls were a little thin in general...so my main recommendation would be to get a room not right next to the elevator if you're a light sleeper. Otherwise, a great place with a great rate, and I'd most likely stay there again. Read more

Upon arrival at the hotel around 11pm, we were greeted with the aroma of toilet and the check in staff made no attempt to talk to us in English. On entering the 4th floor room which was dingey, a non fresh smell wafted and opening the small window the smell of greasy cooking blended in. We knew straight away that this was not the place for us. Returning […] to reception, we were given keys to another room, 2 floors down, but identical in layout and the smell remained. We were shown a third room on the 1st floor which was no better. Grudgingly slept the evening on the 2nd floor room and the next morning after booking another hotel we checked out. Reception did not ask why or requested any feedback. Standards must have slipped since the hotel was given its 4* (some places it is 4* plus) as it would struggle to get a 2* rating based on the quality of the fixtures and fittings, room comfort, helpfulness of staff etc. The new hotel which is only a 3* on hotels, far exceeded our expectations and would have given it 5*. Moving hotels saved the weekend even though it was an extra expense. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a getaway at a good price for a city break in Madrid. There are much better places to stay than here for similar money. Read more

Curiously there are no hooks of any kind to hang outdoor clothes, or in the bathroom. The hotel was right by the Plaza Mayor so fine if you want access to restaurants/bars for some meals as a base. We used the hotel to visit Las Ventas, primarily, so got the Metro from the Airport T4 for €13.80 to cover 2 days tourist travel. Nearest Metro is Sol and it's just a brief walk to the hotel. The hotel was a nice mix of modern and historical. […] The Aircon was a bit weird - had to turn it up to 30C to cool the room (counter intuitive!). The bathroom has a glass door that doesn't lock - no big issue. Was staying with a friend so it's a shame that the two single beds could not be separated from each other. Blackout curtains were great. Laptop provided in the room was very useful for checking email and looking up info regarding tourism in Madrid. Staff spoke reasonable English which is lucky as my Spanish is poor. Bought tickets for the Tourist Bus from reception for €20 each which allowed an open-top-bus tour of the main tourist sites. Nearest Tourist Bus stops were Sol and just on Calle Mayor. Read more

This hotel is a very good value for money option for visitors to Madrid. Tastefully decorated throughout with a modern feel that does not detract from the genuine historic genre of the building.
