"Great location but not 4 star"
We booked a family suite since we had 2 adults and 2 teens. The first room we received was in a attic part of the hotel with a sloping ceiling. You couldn't walk without hitting your head. We talked to the front desk and they couldn't switch rooms until the next day. The next room was better than the first one but I wouldn't say it is a 5 star hotel. […] It is a great location. You walk out the door and you are in the center of everything. Madrid is a fabulous city! The breakfast buffet was good but it has a lot of pork which we don't eat. "4 star hotel"
We were very disappointed in the room compared to my sisters. We couldn't stand up in a large part of the room because of the slant of the ceiling. Getting from one side of the bed to the bathroom was it was easy to bang your head on the ceiling and sharp corners. The curtains were not hung correctly, falling off the rod. There was no view because we […] were on the back side of the hotel. We paid the same price as people who had the front side where they had 2-3 balconies looking over the street. Our room was a 1 star and the hotel should be ashamed for marketing their hotel as a 4 star. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Centrally located with good food and shopping near"
Very nice hotel and staff, clean with a good breakfast buffet. Close to all museums and to the metro. Only good things to say for them. Unfortunately, due to several festivals and celebrations closing the streets, we were forced to use the metro to get to the hotel and there we learned the Madrid metro is packed with theives. The police only laughed […] when we told them of our incedints and immediately did abosultely nothing, which IMHO is bad for future Madrid tourism!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was a great stay. It is an old hotel that has been updated with latest high tech features including a lap top computer. Location was great in walking distance of so many things. Room was small, but adequate for us with adequate room for clothing and work. The hotel was very clean and well maintained. The breakfast offered an excellent selection […] and was well prepared. "Excellent and Superb stay."
The hotel was superb and the location is excellent. The staff were extremely courteous and very very helpful, especially the people at the Reception. They made our stay more pleasant. The breakfast buffet was reasonably priced and both the quantity and quality of the food was very good. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Madrid. And […] I will definitely come back and stay in this hotel the next time I visit Madrid. Our family was dissappointed because we did not get to stay longer. We were on a short visit and time was extremely limited ,but we would certainly love to go and stay there again and again. We were there for 1 night(May 29th 2012).The Check -In and Check-Out process was very fast and efficient and they were just so friendly. Along with my family,I would like to thank all the staff for their warm welcome and pleasing personality. We have taken photos of the hotel and room ,but I havent uploaded the photos to my computer yet(I plan to upload them in the next couple of days) and then I will send it you. Nice room and made honeymoon stay in Madrid very enjoyable. Friendly and helpful staff. Only negative is uncomfortable bed, which could be common in all of Spain.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Response by Petit Palace Posada del Peine Thank you for your very complimentary review of Petit Palace Posada del Peine. We are glad to hear you have enjoyed our quiets rooms just in the down town of Madrid . I look forward to meeting you upon your return. Kindest regards.
The hotel is in a perfect location if you want to be in the center of the action in Madrid. A lot of popular sites are within walking distance and there is a metro stop very close to it. The size of the room and bathroom was fine and exceeded our needs. The wifi signal was fine the whole time and there is a variety of television channels in different […] languages. We did not get the breakfast offered at the hotel because even at their discounted price we could find better breakfast food close by at a lower cost. The staff were alright. There seemed to always be someone behind the desk with some ability to speak English (our Spanish isn't great) and they provided helpful information regarding directions and using the metro. The location is great for nightlife and finding places to eat late - not great if you want to go to sleep early so bring earplugs if that's the case. One issue we had was that the mattresses are very hard and were not particularly comfortable. Also, our booking said that our room had a king-size bed and it was actually about the size of a double. I would recommend this hotel if you are in Madrid for a short stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Petit Palace Posada del Peine Dear guest, Firstly I would like to thank you for spending your time leaving your coments in Expedia. I am glad you liked our location and our free wifi, these are two of our strenghts. You are right about the breakfast, there are lot of options in the surroundings, but one of them with a free Buffet. About the matress, we use first brand matress (pikolin), but unfortunately we can not be for all likings. For the next time we can offer you a cover, over the matress, that will make it softer. Thanks again for your time, and for choosing us. Best regards, David Chía Front Desk Manager
When booking this hotel - remember that 3 of 4 stars come from location, location and location. This was the smallest hotel room I have ever seen. 2 people couldn't pass each other anywhere. On arrival and as soon as the aircon was not running at max the room had a mouldy smell. The wall to the bath/toilet was only a slightly dimmed glass wall that […] in no way was sound or smell proof... Window opened to tiny courtyard with no fresh air. "Nice hotel in perfect position"
If you're looking for a supremely well-located hotel for a night or 2, this is it. It is tucked down a narrow side-street, so not so easy to find but our cab driver had no problem (just punched the address into GPS). You have to walk with your luggage across a small plaza and around a corner to the hotel door - seriously no problem. We were only in […] Madrid for one night, so this hotel was perfect for us. The staff at Posada del Peine were very helpful and spoke good English. They arranged a share cab for us to the airport (a large Mercedes van) which cost us EUR26 for all 4 of us. They also stored our luggage for the day in a locked room near reception. Our room was on the top floor, so had a sloping attic-style ceiling. Looks a bit comfronting when you first walk in and I wouldn't want to spend a week there, but it is fine for a short stay. The beds were comfortable and bathroom clean with plenty of towels. Plaza Mayor & San Miguel Market very close. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel (served in a basement area), but around the corner in a lane is a tiny cafe that serves excellent coffee + toast with jam or tomato for EUR2. Plaza Santa Cruz is also a good option for a more budget friendly meal. You will pay a premium to have dinner in Plaza Mayor, but do it once for the experience. San Miguel market is also a must, even for just a drink and some tapas - the atmosphere is amazing. The hop-on hop-off tour bus stops nearby is a great as a mode of transport. "Historic should not be run-down"
Cute idea to have a hotel in one of the old buildings in the very center of Madrid. Up the price and use the money to maintain the rooms before the only option will be as youth hostel. No access with car - AT ALL! So be prepared to haul your luggage from the nearest public garage or taxi stand. Breakfast buffet was slightly above the expected stand […] ard. "Great value and location"
Great location for a short stay in Madrid. Wifi was OK, if a bit slow. Even the air-conditioning worked, which can be a rarity in hotels in this price range. Breakfast was a bit basic, but loads of other places to chose from nearby. Would use again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Initially they had my friend and me in a double bed; not ideal as we're friendly but not that close! The concierge changed the room without question and service was very good. The room was small (to be expected in a city centre hotel) but clean and well appointed, except for the "bathroom" which was basically a glass screen with a door. Location is […] superb, a few metres from the Plaza Major, but there is only pedestrian access to the entrance. Breakfast was fine. Rate was reasonable at €130 per room. "Great location and super friendly, odd room"
We stayed in a very strange room that was all painted black and sloped down so that you couldn't really stand up in at least half of it. And we kept hitting our heads! And the "black out curtains" really weren't thick at all so if you're sensitive make sure to bring something additional to hang over the window. Great neighborhood though, easy to get […] around from there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Left after 12 hours"
Upon arrival at the hotel around 11pm, we were greeted with the aroma of toilet and the check in staff made no attempt to talk to us in English. On entering the 4th floor room which was dingey, a non fresh smell wafted and opening the small window the smell of greasy cooking blended in. We knew straight away that this was not the place for us. Returning […] to reception, we were given keys to another room, 2 floors down, but identical in layout and the smell remained. We were shown a third room on the 1st floor which was no better. Grudgingly slept the evening on the 2nd floor room and the next morning after booking another hotel we checked out. Reception did not ask why or requested any feedback. Standards must have slipped since the hotel was given its 4* (some places it is 4* plus) as it would struggle to get a 2* rating based on the quality of the fixtures and fittings, room comfort, helpfulness of staff etc. The new hotel which is only a 3* on hotels, far exceeded our expectations and would have given it 5*. Moving hotels saved the weekend even though it was an extra expense. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a getaway at a good price for a city break in Madrid. There are much better places to stay than here for similar money. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and staff. Rubbish room."
The staff were very helpful with advice on where to eat and how to get about. The location is superb right by the Plaza Major. It was just the room! We booked a family room that sleeps 4. As there was just the 3 of us I thought we would have plenty of space but the room was in the roof space with a sloping ceiling making getting around difficult. The […] lowest point was only some 750mm The problem was made worse by the fact that one of our party is 1.9m tall so walking around upright was impossible except when entering the room or the bathroom. The window is tiny with no outlook at all. The bathroom had a shower tray and wetroom screen. When you turned on the "hydroshower" the room was flooded in seconds. I'm sure they have some lovely rooms with Juliet balconies as seen from the outside but the room we had is no more than a storeroom with beds. If booking this hotel ensure you specifically request that you do not have the room with the sloping ceiling. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A mixed bag"
An excellent central location, but with the drawback of night time noise. The rooms are quite small for two people. Curiously there are no hooks of any kind to hang outdoor clothes, or in the bathroom. The bathroom basin has nowhere for soap and no plug - this is not just a missing plug but a feature, so you cannot fill a basin of water for a wash. […] Odd, given the hotel's theoretical committment to environmental protection. The staff were pleasant and professional, dealing immediately with requests for extra pillows and a blanket, and responding helpfully when we asked to change our room. A very good buffet breakfast was excellent value for money. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great for a weekend break"
The hotel was right by the Plaza Mayor so fine if you want access to restaurants/bars for some meals as a base. We used the hotel to visit Las Ventas, primarily, so got the Metro from the Airport T4 for €13.80 to cover 2 days tourist travel. Nearest Metro is Sol and it's just a brief walk to the hotel. The hotel was a nice mix of modern and historical. […] The Aircon was a bit weird - had to turn it up to 30C to cool the room (counter intuitive!). The bathroom has a glass door that doesn't lock - no big issue. Was staying with a friend so it's a shame that the two single beds could not be separated from each other. Blackout curtains were great. Laptop provided in the room was very useful for checking email and looking up info regarding tourism in Madrid. Staff spoke reasonable English which is lucky as my Spanish is poor. Bought tickets for the Tourist Bus from reception for €20 each which allowed an open-top-bus tour of the main tourist sites. Nearest Tourist Bus stops were Sol and just on Calle Mayor. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location, good hotel"
This hotel is perfectly positioned between Plaza de Sol and Plaza Mayor, walking distance from most of the main sights and the Metro is easily navigable from Sol. The hotel is a nice mix between thoroughly modern but also keeps some of the old structure such as old wooden beams. We had a room on ground level so were worried that it may be noisy as was […] next to the street but the double glazing shut all the noise out and the room was very comfortable and cleaned daily. The buffet breakfast was very good, with a wide range of fruit, cold and hot food, hot drinks and juices. There is also a water machine which is handy to fill up water bottles daily. Staff were good, but not overly friendly, but this is typical Madrid! All in all, great location and a great hotel for the cost. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Central but delightfully peaceful hotel"
You couldn't ask for a more central location. The hotel is on a small street that runs between Puerta del Sol and Plaza Major. "Forget the rest and choose the best !!"
This hotel is a very good value for money option for visitors to Madrid. Tastefully decorated throughout with a modern feel that does not detract from the genuine historic genre of the building. The staff were courtious and helpfull, and as the trip was a birthday gift for my wife, they had arranged for champagne and chocolates to be in the room on […] our arrival. I would certainly recommend this hotel for leisure or business stays alike, and if we were to find ourselves going back to Madrid, I would definitely make sure that the Petit Palace Posada Del Peine was the place to stay. I have read some reviews that were fairly critical about this four star hotel, but having stayed in many hotels around the world, I have to say that there are some people who feel the need to criticise just for the sake of it. Check it out for yourself - you will be more than happy with your choice !! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Great location with just a 5 minute walk to Puerta Del Sol and very close to the amazing Plaza Mayor. The room was spacious and the decor was contemporary... the shower was amazing. However, the bed was lumpy and there was a musty smell in our room. We also had a very small window (up high) that would have been nice to have opened to get some fresh […] air. Great location, within walking distance of most of the must sees. Nice hotel but by Irish standards more 2.5 star than 4 star.
