"Centrally located with good food and shopping near"
Very nice hotel and staff, clean with a good breakfast buffet. Close to all museums and to the metro. Only good things to say for them. Unfortunately, due to several festivals and celebrations closing the streets, we were forced to use the metro to get to the hotel and there we learned the Madrid metro is packed with theives. The police only laughed […] when we told them of our incedints and immediately did abosultely nothing, which IMHO is bad for future Madrid tourism!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was a great stay. It is an old hotel that has been updated with latest high tech features including a lap top computer. Location was great in walking distance of so many things. "Excellent and Superb stay."
The hotel was superb and the location is excellent. The staff were extremely courteous and very very helpful, especially the people at the Reception. They made our stay more pleasant. The breakfast buffet was reasonably priced and both the quantity and quality of the food was very good. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Madrid. And […] I will definitely come back and stay in this hotel the next time I visit Madrid. Our family was dissappointed because we did not get to stay longer. We were on a short visit and time was extremely limited ,but we would certainly love to go and stay there again and again. We were there for 1 night(May 29th 2012).The Check -In and Check-Out process was very fast and efficient and they were just so friendly. Along with my family,I would like to thank all the staff for their warm welcome and pleasing personality. We have taken photos of the hotel and room ,but I havent uploaded the photos to my computer yet(I plan to upload them in the next couple of days) and then I will send it you. "Petit Palace Posada del Peine. Petit it was."
The hotel was was totally satisfactory but only satisfactory. The rooms are small. A small however, was that it was not responsive to any requests. The computer corner had no light so you couldn't see the keyboard. No one came to fix the TV. But that didn't matter because we weren't there to watch TV anyway. We wanted to stay close to the Plaza Mayor, […] because as I had remembered it from 50 years ago, the Plaza was beautiful and regal. It has turned into a circus with tourist gift shops, and expensive but so so cafes. For the price, and if you want to be near the Plaza Mayor, it would be a good choice. When booking this hotel - remember that 3 of 4 stars come from location, location and location. This was the smallest hotel room I have ever seen. 2 people couldn't pass each other anywhere. On arrival and as soon as the aircon was not running at max the room had a mouldy smell. The wall to the bath/toilet was only a slightly dimmed glass wall that […] in no way was sound or smell proof... Window opened to tiny courtyard with no fresh air. "Nice hotel in perfect position"
If you're looking for a supremely well-located hotel for a night or 2, this is it. It is tucked down a narrow side-street, so not so easy to find but our cab driver had no problem (just punched the address into GPS). You have to walk with your luggage across a small plaza and around a corner to the hotel door - seriously no problem. We were only in […] Madrid for one night, so this hotel was perfect for us. The staff at Posada del Peine were very helpful and spoke good English. They arranged a share cab for us to the airport (a large Mercedes van) which cost us EUR26 for all 4 of us. They also stored our luggage for the day in a locked room near reception. Our room was on the top floor, so had a sloping attic-style ceiling. Looks a bit comfronting when you first walk in and I wouldn't want to spend a week there, but it is fine for a short stay. The beds were comfortable and bathroom clean with plenty of towels. Plaza Mayor & San Miguel Market very close. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel (served in a basement area), but around the corner in a lane is a tiny cafe that serves excellent coffee + toast with jam or tomato for EUR2. Plaza Santa Cruz is also a good option for a more budget friendly meal. You will pay a premium to have dinner in Plaza Mayor, but do it once for the experience. San Miguel market is also a must, even for just a drink and some tapas - the atmosphere is amazing. The hop-on hop-off tour bus stops nearby is a great as a mode of transport. "Historic should not be run-down"
Cute idea to have a hotel in one of the old buildings in the very center of Madrid. Up the price and use the money to maintain the rooms before the only option will be as youth hostel. "Great value and location"
Great location for a short stay in Madrid. Wifi was OK, if a bit slow. Even the air-conditioning worked, which can be a rarity in hotels in this price range. Breakfast was a bit basic, but loads of other places to chose from nearby. Would use again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Initially they had my friend and me in a double bed; not ideal as we're friendly but not that close! The concierge changed the room without question and service was very good. The room was small (to be expected in a city centre hotel) but clean and well appointed, except for the "bathroom" which was basically a glass screen with a door. Location is […] superb, a few metres from the Plaza Major, but there is only pedestrian access to the entrance. Breakfast was fine. Rate was reasonable at €130 per room. "Great location and super friendly, odd room"
We stayed in a very strange room that was all painted black and sloped down so that you couldn't really stand up in at least half of it. And we kept hitting our heads! And the "black out curtains" really weren't thick at all so if you're sensitive make sure to bring something additional to hang over the window. "Left after 12 hours"
Upon arrival at the hotel around 11pm, we were greeted with the aroma of toilet and the check in staff made no attempt to talk to us in English. On entering the 4th floor room which was dingey, a non fresh smell wafted and opening the small window the smell of greasy cooking blended in. We knew straight away that this was not the place for us. Returning […] to reception, we were given keys to another room, 2 floors down, but identical in layout and the smell remained. We were shown a third room on the 1st floor which was no better. Grudgingly slept the evening on the 2nd floor room and the next morning after booking another hotel we checked out. Reception did not ask why or requested any feedback. Standards must have slipped since the hotel was given its 4* (some places it is 4* plus) as it would struggle to get a 2* rating based on the quality of the fixtures and fittings, room comfort, helpfulness of staff etc. The new hotel which is only a 3* on hotels, far exceeded our expectations and would have given it 5*. Moving hotels saved the weekend even though it was an extra expense. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a getaway at a good price for a city break in Madrid. There are much better places to stay than here for similar money. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and staff. Rubbish room."
The staff were very helpful with advice on where to eat and how to get about. The location is superb right by the Plaza Major. It was just the room! We booked a family room that sleeps 4. As there was just the 3 of us I thought we would have plenty of space but the room was in the roof space with a sloping ceiling making getting around difficult. The […] lowest point was only some 750mm The problem was made worse by the fact that one of our party is 1.9m tall so walking around upright was impossible except when entering the room or the bathroom. The window is tiny with no outlook at all. The bathroom had a shower tray and wetroom screen. When you turned on the "hydroshower" the room was flooded in seconds. I'm sure they have some lovely rooms with Juliet balconies as seen from the outside but the room we had is no more than a storeroom with beds. If booking this hotel ensure you specifically request that you do not have the room with the sloping ceiling. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A mixed bag"
An excellent central location, but with the drawback of night time noise. The rooms are quite small for two people. Curiously there are no hooks of any kind to hang outdoor clothes, or in the bathroom. The bathroom basin has nowhere for soap and no plug - this is not just a missing plug but a feature, so you cannot fill a basin of water for a wash. […] Odd, given the hotel's theoretical committment to environmental protection. The staff were pleasant and professional, dealing immediately with requests for extra pillows and a blanket, and responding helpfully when we asked to change our room. A very good buffet breakfast was excellent value for money. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great for a weekend break"
The hotel was right by the Plaza Mayor so fine if you want access to restaurants/bars for some meals as a base. We used the hotel to visit Las Ventas, primarily, so got the Metro from the Airport T4 for €13.80 to cover 2 days tourist travel. Nearest Metro is Sol and it's just a brief walk to the hotel. The hotel was a nice mix of modern and historical. […] The Aircon was a bit weird - had to turn it up to 30C to cool the room (counter intuitive!). The bathroom has a glass door that doesn't lock - no big issue. Was staying with a friend so it's a shame that the two single beds could not be separated from each other. Blackout curtains were great. Laptop provided in the room was very useful for checking email and looking up info regarding tourism in Madrid. Staff spoke reasonable English which is lucky as my Spanish is poor. Bought tickets for the Tourist Bus from reception for €20 each which allowed an open-top-bus tour of the main tourist sites. Nearest Tourist Bus stops were Sol and just on Calle Mayor. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location, good hotel"
This hotel is perfectly positioned between Plaza de Sol and Plaza Mayor, walking distance from most of the main sights and the Metro is easily navigable from Sol. The hotel is a nice mix between thoroughly modern but also keeps some of the old structure such as old wooden beams. We had a room on ground level so were worried that it may be noisy as was […] next to the street but the double glazing shut all the noise out and the room was very comfortable and cleaned daily. The buffet breakfast was very good, with a wide range of fruit, cold and hot food, hot drinks and juices. There is also a water machine which is handy to fill up water bottles daily. Staff were good, but not overly friendly, but this is typical Madrid! All in all, great location and a great hotel for the cost. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

You couldn't ask for a more central location. The hotel is on a small street that runs between Puerta del Sol and Plaza Major. "Forget the rest and choose the best !!"
This hotel is a very good value for money option for visitors to Madrid. Tastefully decorated throughout with a modern feel that does not detract from the genuine historic genre of the building. The staff were courtious and helpfull, and as the trip was a birthday gift for my wife, they had arranged for champagne and chocolates to be in the room on […] our arrival. I would certainly recommend this hotel for leisure or business stays alike, and if we were to find ourselves going back to Madrid, I would definitely make sure that the Petit Palace Posada Del Peine was the place to stay. I have read some reviews that were fairly critical about this four star hotel, but having stayed in many hotels around the world, I have to say that there are some people who feel the need to criticise just for the sake of it. Great location with just a 5 minute walk to Puerta Del Sol and very close to the amazing Plaza Mayor. The room was spacious and the decor was contemporary... the shower was amazing. Great location, within walking distance of most of the must sees. Nice hotel but by Irish standards more 2.5 star than 4 star. Nigly things like no tea or coffe making in room but available f.O.C. in reception. Unuasual onsuite, almost transparent walls and non locking door. We enjoyed our trip and would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, Internet down, elevator down"
The location of the hotel is great, receptionists are friendly, it is clean and fairly modern. Given that this is one of the "High Tech Hotels" chain, it is unacceptable that Internet is down for several days, that elevator doesn't work so you have to carry your luggage and use stairs. I gave 1 to hotel maintenance because of that.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Could be a lot better.....!"
The hotel is in a great location close to everything and very easy to find. Reception is tiny and if there is a few people waiting to check in then it gets a bit crowded. The receptionist upon check in was very rude, we arrived early as asked if our room was ready and if not could we leave our bags and go off to Warner Park theme park. She told us "we […] have to wait" in a very dismissive tone to find out if the room was ready. after waiting 20 minutes we were able to check in and boy were we shocked by the state of the room....! for a triple room is was very small, cramped and badly proportioned, There were no Tea or coffee making facilities to be found and the mini bar was loosely stocked and outrageously priced The bathroom was clean but totally needing new tiling around the shower as it was showing a lot of wear and tear, the plug hole cap for the shower was not on the plug but smack bang broken in the center of the shower. The toilet seat was completely broken and actually fell off the toilet, there was nothing holding it on. After a maintenance call they still only placed it back on the seat not even attached. Loved the design of the sink even though the sink was blocked and took 30 minutes to drain...!! The shower was the body massage kind with little pressure with the 20 body sprays as well. If you like a comfy bed then this is not the place for you at all. The mattresses were like sleeping on the floor, completely hard with no give. and you only get a sheet on top but as Madrid is very hot even in September we didn't mind that. The Laptop provided worked as expected but be warned that if you charge a moblie phone though it and the laptop goes into sleep mode you phone will not charge. The tv was a bit strange, no English speaking channels and all but 3 of them German ! Breakfast was good and for €9 worth the extra, you got the full selection of hot and continental.
