Not what I expected. There are no elevators, lots of stairs. Extremely limited valet parking, had to park two blocks away. Room stayed too warm, very hard to cool. I liked the hardwood floors. But would not recommend this hotel to others. I was traveling with a small child. The accommodations are not very child friendly.

Wonderful stay. Charming hotel. Couldn't have been more convenient. Very nice, helpful staff. Small rooms but very nice. No elevator, so maybe not a great place for someone disabled. Staff went above & beyond during our stay. We loved the room-we chose the petite since we were doing nothing other than sleeping there. Courtyard was nice, loved the accessibility to the night life. Bar around the corner (Flannagans Pub) turned into our morning routine of Bloody Mary's, best EVER. Would def stay here next trip.

I'm guessing that when the room was cleaned, the maid didn't double-check to make sure she/he had shut the door. We just returned from our weekend in N.O. and absolutely LOVED the old New Orleans charm of Hotel Royal. Perfect location... at the quieter end of Royal Street, but just steps away from all the "activity" on Bourbon Street. In the 1860's, the front part of the hotel was apartments, and the back portion was a bakery, which explains the humorous configuration […] of stairways and balconies in the courtyard leading to the rooms. #If you have limited mobility, beware. There are no elevators... but then again, there's no place to put one. That type of construction would ruin the integrity of this historical place. The staff is very friendly and helpful... willing to provide directions and suggestions for worthwhile activities and the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants and music clubs. (Walk down Royal St. to Frenchman St. for great jazz... particularly The Spotted Cat!!# Hotel desk hosts also know the history of the building and the area. They really seem to take pride in making their guests comfortable. Our room could have used some additional "organizational amenities" like some shelves or something in the bathroom and a luggage stand, but was otherwise very comfortable and very clean. The room decor is clean and crisp with European-style white duvet covers and tons of pillows. A continental breakfast is available in the morning which was a pleasant surprise for us! My girlfriend and I stayed here on a weekend in NOLA and had a great time. It has a central location in the French Quarter but is still on a mostly quiet street. Our bed was super comfortable and our room was spacious. (We had the deluxe suite, which was still very affordable). The help at the front desk was beyond expectations!

The rooms are SMALL. But make no mistake- they are tidy, hip and comfortable! If you are looking for an authentic New Orleans hotel.. this is it! Great courtyard with a spanish fountain.. all floors wind upstairs and around the courtyard.. and each room has it's own style. I found the stairs were a great way to keep fit while eating and drinking everything in site.,, but not everyone shares my fitness strategy! As far as the size... it's all you need.
