A block from Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop, a few blocks from Jackson Square. Parking is a pain, plan for an extra $30/day for parking about a mile away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful, Affordable, Perfect Location"
This hotel was a block off Bourbon, but extremely affordable. Close enough to the party, but far enough down the road to remain peaceful. It was also within very close walking distance to the water and Decatur. The room was huge, with a beautiful bathroom, and very clean. Our only complaint was that there was a little draft coming from the door at night, […] and that the people walking upstairs sounded like they were right in the room with us. This was expected, however, with such an antique building. The hotel was beautiful, the staff was amazing, and the location was perfect. We will definitely stay again. "cozy but nice and clean"
The people were very nice and tried to assist in any way. No elevator so ask where the room is located. We were able to walk everywhere we went locally. The restaurants near the hotel were excellent.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent! Heart of the French Quarters!"
The room was outstanding and very clean. Superior updated features and very nice bed! Hotel staff was extremely helpful!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Pretty but not practical."
4th floor room. All stairs. No elevator. No parking???!!! What!!?? You try parking on the street in the French quarter... no good. And the shower barely sprayed. It took forever to get clean.Genuine Expedia guest review
1. A quiet place in the heart of French Quarter but close to noisy Bourbon Street. Highly recommend if you have no car to park (there is no free or cheap parking). 2. A lack: the tea-intended hot water has coffee smell. It looks like the management saves on buying an additional tea-only heater for about $60. To compare, they charged me $250 per night. 3. […] Unfortunately, the window cannot open. You need to use the conditioner like in standard net-wide hotels. 4. In all other issues I recommend this non-standard hotel in the southern-french style with atrium inside. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Interesting and "quaint""
Actually, the location was good if one wants to be in the heart of the French Quarter. It is a bit over a mile from the downtown/Canal Street area and about a mile and a half from the convention center. But not a bad walk in daylight. One block over (parallel) is the noise and crowds of Bourbon Street. But other than the early morning or night time […] walks to and from the convention center (safety?) I would stay there again. That said, it was noisy at night (not good sound insulation between rooms) and my room was SMALL; literally one step out of bed and I was in the small bathroom facing the toilet; 180 degree turn and another step and I was in the shower. "Beautiful hotel in the heart of the city!"
We booked a room last minute, and the staff was friendly, upgraded our room at no charge, helped us with our bags, parking our car. The bed was comfy, and we had a huge balcony with a lovely view. I would gladly stay at this hotel again!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Very covenient stay during Mardi Gras."
Fun hotel to stay at. Pretty courtyard. Convenient to so much and Royal St. is one of the prettiest in the quarter. The only cons were the hotel room was very small, the shelves were falling off the wall a bit and the handle on the toilet was broken. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, tho! I love New Orleans!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good location but very noisy."
The staff was excellent and so was the location. The nights were very noisy. There is not enough insulation between the walls to block out noise from other rooms or the adjacent building. I was woken up many times during the night. The toilet was plumbed with hot water. The remotes for the tvs didn't work. The windows rattled in the wind. "Nice hotel for the price"
Hotel Royal was a decent hotel compared to what we've seen and the price was fair. It was walking distance to everything. Just one street over from Bourbon St. But was still quiet. The rooms and courtyard were charming. We enjoyed our stay very much. Hotel staff very friendly.Genuine Expedia guest review
"For the price very un satisfied"
I am most upset of the price we paid for no amenities. No elevator, the room had no chair , our room had no window. We were told there was a couple of rooms on the upper floors that had a window or two, not wanting tho climb stairs, we took what was available.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very friendly staff, helpful and cheerful. Would certainly go back! Right in the heart of the French Qt.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great People Great Place To Stay"
What a great affordable hotel right in the heart of the French Quarter. Eric and the rest of the staff was phenomenal and made our stay most enjoyable. Hotel Royal is located on Royal Street which is a great street to walk, shop and eat. It is just off Bourbon and not far from Jackson Square. Highly recommend this hotel and we will stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"HR was the best choice!"
I absolutely loved the Hotel Royal! This was our first time in NO and we randomly choose Hotel Royal to stay in. I was more than pleased. The staff was awesome! They were so nice and accommodating. We were within walking distance of everything and I will stay there again. P.S. The upgrades to the hotel were nice too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Did not stay as there is no parking. When arrived, was told that you have to stop in street in front and unload your own luggage and then take your own vehicle to a lot 4 blocks away to park and walk back. Desk clerk was rude and absolutely of no help at all. Would not recommend this hotel at all.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
By far the worst experience I’ve EVER had dealing with a hotel. Brian at the front desk was the most rude, condescending, patronizing, person I have ever dealt with. It seems as though he had an issue with me using hotels.com to book my room. This is the fourth hotel that I have booked in the French Quarter within the last year and I got a decent rate […] for one night at this place, but I don’t care if this room has a rate of $2 a night, I will never step foot in it again. The ice machine is still broken. We pulled the covers back to find strands of hair in the bed, and even though you book and pay upfront online they will or at least I was charged a $150 deposit, which Brian arrogantly advised me if I was not able to pay they would simply deny me a room. It was my husband's birthday. We traveled well over 500 miles. We were tired and hungry and ready to unwind. We found an available spot in their lot, only to be told it was not available for us to use. So as soon as we brought our luggage up three floors (no elevator) we immediately left to go find parking and to rub salt in the wound as we are stuck on Canal St in non moving traffic in disbelief over our experience checking in, Brian had the nerve to call me on my cell phone and accuse me of blocking someone in. "Best time ever!!!"
The hotel was cute and little. Just what we booked. Our service was off the charts! Their employees were more than friendly and helpful. We were given a map and hand written in were some amazing local food spots. They were always willing to give us directions. Erik was our favorite he treated us like we were family friends and gave us excellent suggestions. […] Highly recommend this place if you are there to experience NOLA for its true southern charm. "Right in the middle of the French Quarter"
Hotel Royal was right in the French Quarter but far enough away from Bourbon St. So there was no problem sleeping. There are no elevators but there was help with our luggage. Great location. I stayed in room no. R17 (don't book it) The room was small and I could hear the voices coming from the other rooms and the carry-door. The TV was small, and there wasn't a space to move around the room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ideal price, proximity and hospitality"
What a great staff! The desk attendants and of course, Eric, were so darn hospitable that it made all the difference in the world in our return. Hotel is one block over from Bourbon Street which you will appreciate in the middle of the night especially! Close to everything and 801 Bar/Restaurant is adjacent making a delicious cocktail and meal mere […] steps away. Kelly, the owner, is one you'll want to squeeze by the time you are done chatting with her. Between Hotel Royal and 801, you'll feel like it's a home away from home. Southern hospitality is an understatement. Be prepared, no elevator which can be a challenge when you're on the 3rd story BUT the delightful staff will happily carry it up for you. I travel for business a LOT.. hospitality and good ol' fashion friendly people (that you end up hugging when you say goodbye) have everything to do with your quality of stay. Felt safe every moment of the stay. Side note: Bourbon St.. great for people watching but Frenchman St is where the quality eateries and cocktails will be. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location - Hotel just OK"
To start there is zero parking in front of or around the hotel which is kind of par for the course for the French Quarter but would have been nice to know - maybe could have been given a suggested place to park for check in. We arrived at about 10pm and the front desk pointed us to a parking spot that would need to be vacated by 7am - either that or […] he said he'd be leaving shortly and we could take his spot (he was parked in a handicapped spot). Ugh. The next day parking was available on site - they have 7 spots for 43 rooms so ask right away if you need it. Also they didn't tell us but their parking is the same price as the lots only it's closer. If there's cheaper parking out there take it because you don't need to drive in the FQ. The room the first night was tiny. We paid for the "deluxe room" and it wasn't deluxe by my standards. Even the guy showing us our room said it was a little small. There was a door in the room that the guy said led to the bar which was kinda weird and made it difficult to sleep. We got moved the second night to a courtyard view room which was better. This room was nicer - but still small. That apparently is what you get in this area. It was one block from Lafitte's on Bourbon St. which is right on the edge of where all of the bars are. Royal St. is cool - a lot of old shops and places to eat - also very close to the square - again just a couple of blocks. I would recommend the hotel just be prepared for what you get in an area that's this old. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Cozy in the middle of the French Quarter"
Some of the staff at Hotel Royal blew my mind with how awesome they are! Super kind and helpful, running after ice when their machine was empty and offering tips on great eats at a lower price. Parking is hectic here, but HR has a lot behind the building that's super convenient and priced about the same as other public lots. Def will return.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Quaint Hotel in a fantastic location!"
After reading other reviews, the only negative thing about this hotel was there was no elevator. Well, it was a renovated 1800's townhouse in the smack middle of French Quarter, what do you expect?! It was perfect for my husband and I, plus 2 other couples we went with. Literally a skip and hop from Bourbon (one block), couple of streets from Jackson […] Square, French Market, LaLaurie mansion. Everyday we would wake up, walk a different street to get to the French Market, taking in the culture, architecture, shopping, artists, etc. Perfect central location, we were able to stagger back at the of the nights spent on Bourbon. Now, the room was a tad small, however, very clean, updated, comfortable. (We once stayed in a hotel in Paris where you had to sit sideways on the toilet since your knees would hit the wall and I'm only 5'6!) We also didn't plan on staying in the room, so for us and the other couples, it was just right. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Very traditional feel to hotel. Best front desk staff we have had in a long time. The lady that checked us in gave us a map and a few suggestions which became the highlight of the trip. The rooms are very small but clean and modernized.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place, great value, great staff"
It was a wonderful stay from the moment we pulled up, the bellman was outstanding helping us at the curb and making sure our bags got the room and offered all kinds of assistance, the front desk could not have been more friendly and helpful, easy check-in the continental breakfast is just that but fine, coffee, juice and the courtyard to sit and relax […] was perfect The room was spacious, clean and great view from the fourth floor, this is an old historic building so no modern elevators. great little place right in the French Quarter, two blocks to the markets, one block to bourbon street perfect spot, the desk had a street map and great recommendations, We were leaving at 3am for our flight they had the taxi waiting for us, Great place we will be back. Walking distance to all things French Quarter!. It is on the opposite end of the FQ and away from the heart of Burbon St but that is ok for me. I can walk to it if needed and not that far away. It is in a quiet location away from heavy traffic and binge drinking party goers. Royal st is great for shopping and cafes. 2 blocks from the French Market. There is no elevator so if you have difficulties climbing stairs you better make sure you request the bottom floor. Don't count on the continental breakfast, hardly anything to eat and no where to sit.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful old New Orleans ambiance"
I love this hotel. It perfectly blends old New Orleans with modern style. There is even a traditional hidden French quarter courtyard. There is no elevator, which is important to note but it did not bother me in the slightest. Love, love, love!! The hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay great. Because the week was slow, they gave us a free upgrade. Room was fantastic and near all the great places to see in New Orleans.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Wife and I were passing through New Orleans and booked this place last minute. The hotel is one block from Bourbon St and two-three blocks from the party. Only two problems overall and none really the hotel's fault.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We had a reservation for 4 nights but only stayed 2. We paid $26 a day to park in the hotel "parking area" behind a 24 hour pub and the only way to access the parking was to walk around the block.
