"Dissappointing!"
inadequate staff to attend to guests when checking in or checking out. When I was checking out I was nearly billed for items that I never took from the mini bar which tells me that someone is being dishonest when billing customers....and something about the staff that indicates a kind of obscured "attitude and dislike" for their jobs and the guests. In other words the atmosphere is not warm and "friendly" as a hotel should be.

"Disapointed"
The food was very poor compared to other places I have stayed and Towels were dirty looking.When I got to the Hotel the hotel did not have my reservation that I made through Expedia.I waited 2hrs for them for find me. When I checked out the hotel tried to charge me for Internet and dry cleaning. I never used either. The hotel removed it.but I had to wait an hour for them to clear up the mistake.

"Very Nice hotel, Helpful staff"
I stayed 2 nights while on vacation. The room was very comfortable and the hotel was clean and well decorated. I visited the casino and the Piano bar which had live entertainment. It was within walking distance of several fast food chains - McDonalds, KFC, Papa Johns ..... I took a private city tour for $90 US per person arranged by guest services. We had a driver and a guide and a van from 10 am until 2:30 and it included lunch at a restaurant in Zona Colonial. The guide spoke very good English and the tour was great.

"Great Hotel, Be aware they 'vary' by availability"
The manager, not sure of her name. EXCELLENT. Very positive energy and helpful. The guy that booked me in, not so great. Bad energy. And changed my room to a 2 bedroom, when I wanted a 1 bedroom. 2 Bedroom was not what was advertised. The manager made me aware, you get a 1 or 2 beds room based on availability. So therefore, if you book here, be sure you call ahead of time. It's a very lively environment. Very good location. Cool ameninites inside. Met the President of Argentinian baseball in an elevator convo. Bathroom is VERY WELL DONE!

"5 nights, nice room, good service. OK."
I had problems with the control of the tv, were resolve, one night without coffee in the room. Showers are nice but be careful with the door or you will wet all the bathroom. The food it was very good, the internet is kind of slow. The people is not so nice, service ok. I ask for the corporative rates and want to visit the premium floor, they don't give me answers. I have been at the occidental embajador too, they are like equal. but Barceló has more variety in food.

"Nice place to stay"
Stayed at The Barceló January 20 - 23 and it was great. The location of the Hotel is the reason why we styed here in the first place. The Hotel is perfectly situated in Santo Domingo for what we had to do. The restaurants in the Hotel were all great and the Casino made for some fun entertainment as well. My only issue was with the staff at the check in counter. If Dora wasn't helping us out then it was a disaster. The other front desk people were either new or didn't have a clue on how to work in a Hotel. Other than that, I will be staying here again.

"Conveniently located in the heart of the city"
The hotel is a nice clean place, but I will recommend the guest to stay away from the pool area on the weekend, as the hotel allow anybody to use the facilities, you could only imagine the crowd that goes there, not to mention that no one checks for weapons, and there is not security on the pool area. I have stay at this hotel several times and it was never like this, I will sadly say it was my last.

"make sure you are white"
the hotel grounds were lovely. However, my boyfriend was treated differently than me even though we checked in together. Anytime he walked into the elevator, he was questioned as to whether or not he belonged in the hotel, not me, only him. It was very obvious to us that the color of his skin allowed your staff to treat him with very little regard and disrespectfully. He was not allowed to sign for things to our room, even though he signed in at check in. I have never experienced discrimination before, but after the stay in your hotel, I certainly witnessed it through someone I care about. It was very unfortunate and truly unacceptable in other parts of the world

Ive reviewed this hotel before, its a good value, could be updated, a bit musty but offers a good value, bad location to access as traffic on the main avenue is a nightmare, not for walkers, casino connected, restaurant is avg, god be and large rooms, get rooms facing back as traffic can be loud. Good service. Nice bathroom with fun shower with multiple heads. Mini bar.

The Barceló (Lina) Hotel mid-level hotel that is amazingly overpriced. While the staff is friendly, the facility suffers from several major problems such as a difficult entrance to the facility; poorly designed and managed parking space and some inept employees that lack customer service training.

Asked for non-smoking room initially was given smoking room. Maid service came into room several times,no latch on door to prevent. Bring your own pillow, very uncomfortable pillows. Other than this it was just ok

Great rate. Great value. Only complaints are 1. No complimentary wifi. 2. Only the yellowtail was any good at the Japanese restaurant (Kyoto). The sake was fantastic though. It is off-menu.

Nice experience at the hotel. However, taxi service provided by the hotel is a rip-off. Taxi drivers available at the hotel overcharge by about 300%. They quote the fare in "dollars" if you are american. I explained to the driver that I have been going to santo domingo for 20 years. They than lowered the price. This tells me that they will overcharge any unsuspecting tourist with little knowledge of Santo Domingo.

"Nice Hotel - Exceptional Value"
We stayed at Barcelo Hotel for 5 nights and were quite impressed by the Hotel personnel from waiters, bartenders to maids. Always a welcoming smile with the utmost consideration and respect. We chose Barcelo because of its central location. We wanted to experience the city and relax at the same time. Hotel signage is excellent with boards listing popular destinations across the country (cities, towns and popular destinations) citing distance from hotel and transportation options. The hotel has a nice pool and beautiful rooftop.

"Nice, pleasant hotel/service needs to improve!"
My husband and I enjoyed a very pleasant overall stay in the Barcelo. The buffet in the restaurant was very good, room was clean and spacious, bed/linen comfortable. Loved the amenities: lobby bar had very good live music almost every night, the pasteleria lots of delicious treats, nice pool. Staff was friendly. Minus: service was not up to par to the rated 4 1/2 stars. Pool staff was horrible, no towels, no service, wrong orders, very young and unsupervised. The spa/hairdresser was nice to walk in, but very (!!!) dirty and unprofessional. Taxi-service: no alliance with reliable professional taxi company, depending on bell boy on duty any car/in any condition/ any cab driver can pull up to serve their clients. That part was totally Unacceptable for a hotel rated that high. High internet fee! At check in: we were told that there would be a $500 hold on our credit card just to open a tab??? Even in Vegas the max is $200.....

"Overall good stay"
Overall the stay was very good. We stayed from a Tuesday through Thursday. We had business in the area and weren't sure of our time to be done Thursday and a,later check out was not an issue. Very very very happy about that although we wound up not needing it the fact it was not an issue was a huge plus. The club level was great, the breakfast it included was also a plus. The terrace w Jacuzzi divine, and the room service delish. Cons: The buffet in the lobby was ridiculously expensive. the carpeting in the room was truly disgusting. We were told all the rooms had the same issue as the carpeting is old and due to be replaced beginning of 2015.

"Nice hotel with nice pool"
I stood at the club premium. I think it was worth the extra bucks. I had unlimited soda, water & beer. Breakfast was also included. Not a party hotel is more for business people with meetings. But if you're looking to just relax by the pool is ver good hotel. The food wasn't too good since I stood in the Dominican Republic I expected some Dominican food but it was more between Dominican and American food. It wasn't bad but not what I expected.

I was visiting family members in Santo Domingo and stay for 5 days. Everything was fine, the only problem that I had was that in two occasion they knock at my door with the sign of not disturb on the door hanger. I will recommend the hotel and I will be back to the hotel too. People are great and the service is on time.

"Close to everything in Santo Domingo"
I have to say that the staff this time around were not as helpful as other times. Always a great hotel but will be trying a new in my next trip to DR.
