"Great location and beautiful view of lighthouse"
Was comfortable, rooms nice and clean. We had pool view but if willing to pay more can upgrade to beach andlighthouse view. The only thing was there is no hot tub/jacuzzi and the pool being outdoors was not yet open for the season. Also no air conditioning in May, was told it is not in operation till June even though the room was warm and temp outside was hot.

"Our recent stay in Edgartown"
I think we caught the Harbor View at a bad time. When we arrived and went to our room we quickly learned upon entering the room that a serious error had been made. A young lady was lying on the bed. She apologized profusely to us as we did to her. I might add a delightful young lady who was heading home from college and was traveling with her dad. The front desk was called and in a while after we called again a front desk representative arrived full of apologizes and wisked us off down the hall to our new room. As the clerk began to open the door I said to him, "Stop there are people in the room" as I heard the sounds of children playing. The clerk apologized again and went back to the front desk. Soon he arrived with keys to another room and showed us down the hall explaining that they were providing us a room upgrade for the embarrassment and inconvenience. We held our breath as he opened the door and breathed a sigh of relief as we finally had our own spot. Some sparring finally convinced the front desk manager that a complimentary bottle of wine was not an inappropriate request. In truth they should have offered us dinner. The new room was a fairly spacious suite. The room was not what I would call clean. Not a case of the bathrooms being dirty or the floors not vacuumed but a case of the room needing a deep cleaning to remove mildew that was accumulating. The furniture seemed like a combination of Ikea and Goodwill. Some pieces were very tired.

"WONDERFUL"
This hotel was quiet, clean, and comfortable. Our stay was the week before Memorial Day weekend so the "summer vacationers" had not arrived. Not all the stores or restaurants were open but the ones that were had terrific food and service. In our opinion, we picked the best time to visit.

"Highly recommended."
We stayed in one of the cottages that was completely remodeled and wonderful. Including a white picket fence. So lovely and welcoming. The only nuisance was the home being built next door to the hotel and waking up to hammering at 7:30am. Hopefully, that will be completed soon. The food at the restaurant was fabulous. We ate there both nights!

Over all we had a great experience at Habor View. Very nice accommodations, clean, friendly, helpful employees. The one negative experience was at the breakfast restaurant. We were seated promptly, but then waited 15 minutes for service. After we ordered our food, it was another 30 minutes to be served. Once our meal was completed, it took another 15minutes to get our check...an hour of our time spent waiting. On the plus side, the food was delicious, the servers were friendly. It seemed there was a shortage of help as the restaurant was not half full. As we were leaving, a couple from a nearby table asked where the waitress was...we said it will be awhile. That is truely the only negative comment we have about the Harbor View. We hope that steps can be made to improve the service at the restaurant.

"Excellent experience"
We stayed one night for Mother's Day. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room is very spacious and clean with balcony next to pool. Bathroom is very large. Great view of harbor and light house. There were 5 in my family traveling, and taxi charged per person which was very expensive. We had Mother's Day breakfast at Luck Hank's restaurant, and it was the best. We were inquiring about the bus to travel to Oak Bluff and Larsen's Fish Market, when the hotel customer service rep next to check in recommended renting a car for $59 for the day. Within 12 mins we got into a Jeep and traveled around the island for half a day, and later dropped off the vehicle at the steamboat dock for our return.

"Lovely traditional hotel, nice location."
Hotel is very appealing, beautiful buildings with porches and rocking chairs facing the lighthouse and beach. Nice location with short walk to town center, shops and restaurants. Rooms are very nice and clean. My one complaint is that we were placed on the 3rd floor, rear, with NO elevator. This made our stay a little inconvenient for two seniors. But overall, a very nice place to stay.

"Old, even though it's newly remodeled"
We came in late and got rooms on the ground level. The view was facing poolside that looked more like a work area. I do not believe the hotel was fully booked but they still placed us in a room without a view towards the sea. Not a good way of making us want to return. Hotel staff was polite enough, but the breakfast server from Moldova was very pleasant and made our stay a good one.

"Nice hotel"
We stayed at this hotel on April 2014. Great location and nice hotel. Proximity to light house was a bless for our 4 year old. All family enjoyed the porch. The service at restaurant was less than bearable. We waited 35 min for our toast and tea. It might be the off season but they were understaff for both breakfast (Water St Restaurant) and for Dinner at Henry's. Hotel is close to shopping and restaurants too. Overall we enjoyed staying at Harbor View.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at the Harbor View and couldn't be more pleased. Our room was everything we expected and more. Clean and nicely furnished with great view of the Edgartown Lighthouse. The fireplace in the main lobby was a wonderful place to warm up by after being out on a rather chilly day. The front porch was just as nice to relax and enjoy the view.

"Parking troubles"
Parking here in the winter is hazardous. They sent me out into the dark with no lights to walk the equivalent of two blocks after I found a space I wasn't sure was legit. The new manager is superb but the reality is that many of their staff members have almost no experience. It's a good hotel -- but don't be caught up in any Edgartown mystique, as the staff is untrained. Overall, the stay was "okay".

"Anniversary Weekend"
We had been very curious about life on the Vineyard off-season, after spending a week during the summers for many years. We found an attractive rate thru Expedia, and jumped at the chance to stay at the Harbor View for a weekend. The price was what we would pay at a chain hotel on the mainland, and we found the hotel room and condition warranted that rate. We were not able to understand how people could rationalize the rate charged on-season. The room was on the small side, made so by the king-sized bed. The bed was quite comfortable, we must say. There was chipping paint in the bathroom, a light bulb out in the hallway, things that a Five Star Hotel wouldn't allow. The staff was pleasant, but we spent most of our time outside the hotel, enjoying the weather and the serenity of the off-season, so we didn't need to interact with them much. We had a good view of the lighthouse, and even saw a bit of a sunrise. All in all, our stay was pleasant, made so by the pleasant days and cools nights of a quiet island.

"Beautiful place to stay"
One of the best hotel views you will find on Martha's Vineyard. Just a 7 minute walk to downtown. Good parking. The walk across the street to the lighthouse and beach during sunrises and sunsets can't be matched. Water Street restaurant served a good breakfast and I had possibly the best steak I have ever eaten there. It was worth taking our car over on the ferry, we were not at the mercy of the transit system. We drove everywhere which enabled us to see everything. Great Great hotel. Highly recommend.

"Best Hotel in Edgartown"
Harbor View Hotel was a beautiful hotel to stay!! We would highly recommend it to anyone! We stayed in the main house in room #306! We had a king bed and a partial ocean view! The room itself was very comfortable and well appointed. Staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. Atmosphere was simple and elegant. We had only one concern and that was the restaurant with the beautiful view closes down off season and you have only Henry's Pub for dinner with a very limited menu. Menu is deceiving in that it has two categories Small Plates and Large Plates. My husband ordered the strip steak in the large plates and it came sliced with approximately 8 small pieces of steak much more like an appetizer than a meal. Also it was served with french fries. It was $38 and definitely was not of the quality he was expecting or the portion. Saying all this, he stated his concerns to the waitress and we feel they responded very appropriately by offering another portion which he declined. However when we received our bill they took off his meal and a glass of wine. In the end we were very pleased with how they handled the situation. However the menu is very misleading. Had breakfast the next morning in the larger restaurant with the beautiful view and it was very good. in the end, we loved this hotel and would definitely stay here again!!

First time ion the island. The hotel has a good location and is within walking distance to the town. Nice leisurely 10 min walk. Loved the ambiance of the area and the hotel. Sat on the front porch and read while enjoying a glass of wine and the view. Really nice. the pool was much larger than we had thought although we didn't use it since we were ther in October. The only word of warning I can give id book your ferry in advance.. We were stuck for many hours trying to get back because of the seasonal changes to their schedule. The port authority said no reservations required... Wait lines were unguaranteed so buy a ticket well in advance.

We took our son, his wife and grandson there with us....we wanted to treat them but we were disappointed in the rooms. The area and setting was nice but the hall and rugs leading to the rooms and inside the rooms were stained badly needing an update. The baths looked like a child caulked around toilet and sink areas. There was lukewarm water and it never warmed up to hot after 20 mins. but did get a bit warmer. Only one soap for the shower and sink so you had to make sure you had it where needed. Noise from upstairs room was loud. Slider to the balcony was hard to open ....the lock was not easily understood and could have caused a problem if there was a fire.....it took us a while to firgure out how to unlock it. The fine dinning area was not open the night we were there. There were a few more things that we jotted down but I won't go on.

"Less than clean for high end hotel for this room."
Harbor view Hotel is a high end hotel in an excellent location at the end of the N. St. We had the handicapped room for the 2 double beds rather than 1 king bed. We are not handicapped. The carpet was soiled and frayed/ worn around the edges. After the 2nd day we noticed that the carpet was not being vacuumed adding to the poor condition of the carpeting. I believe that this would never had occurred in the rooms in the main building where the high end rooms were located. The room was in a motel like facility. This room was maintained at a lower level because it was a lower priced. Also, the room was never dusted. We had to request a menu for room service, ours was missing. We had to request supplies for the coffee maker. The view from our room was very pleasant facing a wooded area. The exterior of the hotel is aesthetically attractive and well maintained. The lobby, the veranda, the restaurant were well appointed. All of this was in stark contrast to our dingy room. In reference to the staff the staff in the lobby were very helpful. I don't believe the housekeep- ing staff was sufficiently supervised. I did not go to Martha's Vineyard and stay at the Harbor View Hotel to be a consumer advo-cate. It became tiresome making requests. It was also disheartening to have a room that was less than clean.

"Stunning view"
Our stay at the Harbor View was a bit of a disappointment. I didn't realize that I reserved a room in another building situated behind the main building and therefore we had no view of the water. Our room was in a building that resembled an old motel. Also upon arrival we were informed that there was a wedding at the hotel and that we wouldn't be able to use the main dining room for lunch or dinner on one of the two days we were there. I was very disappointed and would've appreciated being made aware of this prior to my arrival.

"quaint hotel with phenomenal views!"
We only got to stay one night, but it was delightful! While the hotel is actually quite large, it has a very relaxed, quaint, b&b feel. This is an old hotel that has been well maintained and still maintains a lot of its old style charm, yet has all the modern amenities. The King bed was extremely comfortable as were the pillows. The robes, locally sourced soaps & lotions were also delightful. The bathroom was plenty bright for make-up & shaving, while the room had soft recessed lighting as well as lamps. There was a refrigerator in the room (no mini-bar) and a nice size flat screen tv. The location couldn't be better - at the end of Water Street after a row of elegant old white sea captains' homes, within walking distance of the main Edgartown Center. The Huge wrapping veranda on the front of the hotel overlooks the water and the lighthouse affording an excellent place to watch the sunset. We ate at the Water St restaurant within the hotel for dinner which was elegant, yet not stuffy. I had the cucumber gazpacho & the sweet potato gnocchi for dinner. Both were appetizers. Both delicious, and beautifully prepared, but warning: the portions are not huge (i think there were maybe 7 small gnocchi) My husband had the salt & pepper squid which he said was amazing. He also had the local oysters & tuna, which were beautifully prepared. He said they were both good, but not as amazing as the squid. I'd highly recommend this hotel and hope to return sometime soon
